THE BEST GAME THAT EXISTS. |
| Samaan Mahmoudzadeh from Sacramento(Calafornia)USA says (23/Dec/2001): |
FFIX is full of action and adventure,if your a real Final Fantasy fan you would have beaten FFIX.I have already mastered Final Fantasy 1-10.I'm waiting on FFXI,for the PS2.I love FFVII and FFIX,Final Fantasy is great and long.FFX is a 6 disk game,so prepare yourself for the time of your damn life.FFix and FFX are great, but FFVII out classes them all.FFVII isn't as long as FFVIII or FFXI,but still has plenty of exhitment. The main people in FFVII,FFVIII,and FFIX are:Cloud,Squall, and Zidane.I have to say out of those three Cloud is the coolest strongest person of all time. And thats my review on Final Fantasy IX,Thack you all.

Best Game Ever made |
| David Tashner from Richmond, Virginia, USA says (1/Jan/2002): |
Final Fantsay 9 is the best game ever made for any game system. Ever. It combines a great story line with great graphics and awesome weapons and abilities. I think that you really get to know the characters in this game and the way that they interact is incredible. The only bad thing about Final Fantasy 9 is that it ends. The relationship between Dagger and Zidane is fun to watch and the way all the people react to different things that happen during the course of this game is also cool. If it's boring during the beginning, just wait because once your characters become more powerful and get better items, the game gets reallly great. I've only played this game once and it only took me about a week and a half to beat but I can't wait to play it over again. This is the best game ever made and i recommend it to every person who has never played it.

The Best Final Fantasy ever |
| Final Fantasy Freak from UK says (23/Mar/2002): |
I totally think that Final Fantasy 9 toally blows you away with the new characters, weapons, and a great storyline. Nice modern between past technology games like recent final fantasies. If you want a game to play for your life, this is it!

Leader of the RPG's |
| Ma Al Ta from Ruabon,Wales says (27/Mar/2002): |
To sum it up in one, Final Fantasy 9 is spectacular. The movies are stunning, the battle system is spectacular and even though I worshipped Final Fantasy 7 & Final Fantasy 8, number 9 shall be it's leader! The storyline is immense because you get suked into there magical world. As Final Fantasy's biggest fan I have to say the characters lives are amazing (I wish I had a life like that?!). It could have been longer and harder but that is no excuse not to call it the best game ever!!!!

Not what I expected.... |
| A gamer from Killeen, Tx, Usa says (27/Apr/2002): |
This game didn't intrest me at all, I thought the CGs were pretty good. Other than that it's rubbish. I've played the other Final Fantasy games and the graphics were indeed better than the other games. The story line though was really boring. I didn't feel I had much freedom in the game. The music was ok and the battle system was good but the ability learning was SO rubbish! It sucks having a character thats really weak cause you have to learn all the abilities the accesories give you. Especially when your at a hard boss. When I played it I asked myself "Why am I playing this game?". I think SquareSoft could have done better.

Best FF Game ever |
| David from Manchecter, England says (29/Apr/2002): |
I thought they couldn't beat final fantasy eight but they far outweight everything in nine. The FMV's are really cool and the game play is excellent, I also enjoyed the story line which like all ff games was great. I loved the more medevil type background of the game instead of the futuristic world of eight. I hope ten will be just as good although I was not happy about the fact that you can't rename your characters

A worthy sequel |
| Glen Mack from Birmingham, England says (9/May/2002): |
Although FF9 is a very good game in it's own right, I don't think the story or gameplay live up to that of FF8 or FF7. I have however, fallen in love with little Eiko Carrol, (A great name for her is Elphie, because she looks like an elf and reminds me of Selphie, from FF8) The graphics are vastly superior, but I think the music and atmosphere don't really feel very FF! Anyone wants to let me know what they think... uwgc< remove me > at yahoo.com

This is the best! |
| Shaun Ho from Singapore says (20/May/2002): |
This game is the best game i've played on the PS. The main character is Zidane, and i don't understand why people say that he looks like a female.. Yeah, the beginning is boring, but once you get to disc four, its real great. You are given pure freedom, but the map music then really bites. There's one thing i don't understand. how did Ozma, Hades, and Necron come about? They were unknown until i fought them. Also, Ozma was absurdly tough. took me about 10 tries to get him, and the final battle against him took me 45 minutes filled with mostly feeding my characters with remedies. Although that, i think that the ability learning system is great, the graphics are great and also the sound effects and music. I LOVED the part in which they played "you're not alone" in the pandemonium. it really added some great ambience to the plot. That part really sounded like some sort of Chinese drama. I almost cried there.. because of the music. I find it rather funny that the "model" of Vivi was so widely used in the ff series. also, that Cid must have been the 7th or 8th Cid in the series, but that adds to the fun right?
The part which i disliked the most was the desert palace, where the music really ruined the scene, but hey, its such a small issue compared to the rest, which is why i put a 10 up there.

Probably the best game I've ever played........ |
| Michelle says (30/Jun/2002): |
I thought this was the best game I've ever played. I have the attention span of a 4 year old (even though I'm 12) but I never wanted to put the game down. I also agree with some of the other people. The great game needed a great ending. But with an ending like that well, it was a little disapointing. Square soft could of done so many things at the end but chose a simple ending. Also, if i had to skip one or two parts in the game it would probably be in Grizgrottos Grotto (I'm not quite sure how to spell it) and the something Roo. Not the Gargen Roo, the other one. When ther are going to the Other Continet for the first time. I hate that place. And regadless what everyone else says, I still loved this game. And if you read this and know the cheat to get more money, or a good website please e-mail me at michelleg< remove me > at fishnet.com. Or if there is such thing, how to get 99 of all items. But I don't have a game shark so i don't want those codes. Thank you all who will help me.

Not bad, not bad at all |
| Renay from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada says (30/Jun/2002): |
I really liked it. It beat the hell out of FF8. I hated 8! It's one of the most boring games I've ever played.....but back to 9....It's one of the best RPG's I've played in a looong time. Okay, so it has the same story line as every other Final Fantasy (save the world from the derranged bad guy), but it was still well done. I don't think I'm the only one, but originally I had Zidane mistaken for a girl. It takes a while before the game really starts, and you get to move around freely, a little longer than I expected. But that's still okay. I have to admit, most of the time, it was a bit too easy. I did, after all, beat the game in 3 days (I have no life, so I had nothing better to do but play it). Most of the bosses weren't anywhere near hard enough, although Necron was not bad I wish I had found Hades. If you know where he is, send me an email, tell me where!! The CGs were really well done. When they did the parts of the game focused on Vivi, and his thoughts about how lost and alone he felt after seeing the Black mages being made in Dali, at times I felt really bad for him! And same with Garnet/Dagger. They did a great job with the story line, and really got you to see what they were feeling. Another good thing: FINALLY a video game with decent music! I thought "Loss of Me" is a really pretty piece, I'm teaching myself to play it on my piano. I'm starting to ramble, so I'll just get to the point. This is a great game, and if you haven't played it already, play it as soon as possible!!

could be better |
| A gamer from USA says (17/Jul/2002): |
Well I believe that Final Fantasy 9 was pretty good but there were things that could have been better. For instance in FF7 I think that the way materia went is better than any other way magic or abilities ever went. Because you could choose what kind of magic you wanted to buy and you could also choose who you wanted to be a white magician or a black magician. And you could pick who got the right to what summonds. In FF9 you have to gain those stupid ap points to get your abilities. And if you have ever played ff10 then you will know that the characters and the story plot were better than any other final fantasy. So in other words combine ff7 and ff10 and you will come out with the best final fantasy game ever made. But anyway back to ff9 the #1 reason I got the game was because I have played every other final fantsy ever and beat them all. But ff9 had its good parts like towards the 3rd and 4th disc it started to get interesting. And finally i thought that the characters were pretty good. Well im done it probably sounds like im dissing the game and your wondering why its getting such a respectable rating but come on it is a final fantasy game and all of the ff's are the best rpg's ever.

FF7 was better |
| A gamer says (18/Jul/2002): |
Im not dissing da game, but it could have been much better. The story line was ok,but it should've been more complex. The ability system wasn't so good either. The materia thing in FF7 was better cause u could buy da crap and choose who whould be equiped with it. So you could choose who was ur white or black mage and who was ur knight. I also thought da story line was to simple to follow. Also da characters were weird. Wat da hell was up wit Quina? And now da thing i hate most about FF9 was their side quests. I mean 7,8,and 10 had much more and they were all fun! 9 didnt have much and fun ones too. And their card game was way too confusing, so it wasnt fun. But over all it was pretty good....I mean all FF games kick ass! U really cant diss any!

Totally adictive and just makes you want more more more! |
| Alex K M from Den Haag, The Netherlands says (5/Sep/2002): |
It is the first FF i have played and i must say i totally enjoyed it. Good storyline, you gotta give em credit for such a long story. Nice graphics and mucho full motion vids. I finished it twice and now again for the hell of it. A real buy that you won't be sorry about. Now i want to buy a PS2 just to get FFX!
My congrats to the development team, GRADE A!

This is one of the best games I have every played. |
| James Sutton-Baines from Rockford , IL says (28/Sep/2002): |
I think that Squaresoft has done it agian, they have brought us another wonderfull installment in the saga that is Final Fantasy. Personaly when I bought this game , I thought that it was just going to be the average run of the mill kinda rpg , but when I got it home and started playing it , I found out that it wasnt. The graphics are wonderfull , the story line is the best in the Final Fantasy series sence Final Fantasy four, And the battle system and equip set is just brillent, I wish they had come up with this battle system earlier, well anyway on with the review, the sound could have been better , and the originality , wasnt all the oringinal, but the fun factor makes up for that , after I beat it the first time , I started agian and finally figured out how to summon eidlions ,which was really anoying cause the first time thru the game I beat it without eidlions! Well any way over all I think that if you are a fan of the Final Fantasy saga or just a fan of rpgs, Then in my opinion you should buy this game and trust me you will enjoy it.

this is one of the best games ever |
| Eric D from USA says (12/Oct/2002): |
Final fantasy 9 is by far one of the best games ever. The story line is awsome, the AP system yo earn abilities is great compared to ff7 or ff8, and the personalities of the characters are just amazing. I know that the graphics aren't up to the quality they could be but the amazing cinemas make up for it. The game is a good starting ff game for rookie players and veterans alike. 9 offers challenges for both types. Many would say that the non-realistic world hampers the gaming but I completly disagree. The type of world only opens up more possbilities. Another thing I like is the much better chocobo side quests. ff7 chocobo quests takes longer than the game it's self. All the waiting for the right chocobo and the breeding and the racing just eventually gets old. And to add to that you have to do it to get the best items of the game. Now about 8, the chocobo quests in 8 are just boring and uninteresting. There isn't even any point to it. In 9 the chocobo quests in 9 are fun and make you think. I have to say I don't hate 7 or 8, it's just there are things that could have been better. I've played ff 5-10 and I personaly think 9 is the best.

Wow...you people suprise me. the best ff wasn't even a PS game, though it is now |
| Candle from Pittsburgh PA USA says (13/Oct/2002): |
For any of you who have played Final Fantasy from the very first game you would realize that Final Fantasy 6 is the best. What the hell am i thinking you ask? Lets see, FF7 was good, it had pretty graphics and retained some of the FF characterists, however you could only play three people and your choices in the world were limited. FF8 was a piece of crap if you expected a final fantasy game. However, if you like futuristic anti-fantasy military games and you are easily entertained by pretty graphics and the lack of your involvment in a game then I guess you probally like 8. FF8 had a "point a to point b" story line, there werent any true side quest or branches in the stroy. For Christ sakes i might as well have read the book. Alot of people didn't like 8, as a result square went back to it's roots, hence the drastic change in 9. It is fantasy and it is short stought characters, and allot of the trade mark characters have returned. However, square missed the entire point of why people hate 8, YOU HAVE NO TRUE ROLE IN 8!! Your choices mean nothing, no matter what, the story goes from start to finish. You have very few characters to choose from, even less abilities to learn. This game is worse then 8 and that was thought to be impossible. Square will hopefully wake up and realize what the hell they are doing even though they didn't in 10 because it is the same way. This is why 6 is concedered to be the best, it is fantasy, it has great music (better then 7), has 14 characters you can play and each and everyone of them has their own side stories and secrets. The entire world is for you to explore and to do what you want. This is what FF games have lost ever sense 7 and only time will tell if they will realize this.

A little more soul would've been nice !! |
| Reno from Dorset, England says (15/Oct/2002): |
I get the inpression that people giving this game rave reviews don't know the earlier Final Fantasy games very well (though I know I'm wrong in some cases). This game is so simple!!! It was made just as a pure playing game rather than interactive explorative game, like, for example, FF6. There are several ways in which I dislike this game, such as; Lack of characterisation. My favourite character, Amarant, has virtually no background story, and no involvement in the game. Other characters just don't have it when it comes to people you care about playing with. Lack of emotion; the game looks stunning, yeah. But it doesn't matter how good it looks, you don't feel anything while playing. For example, when Alexandria feels Garland's force on CD2, the biggest trauma for me is that Alexander was killed, although no mention was made of him, the mightiest of summons, whatsoever!! And the mini-games basically rely on the player being able to repeatedly carry out button presses at various speeds, which quickly gets boring and very frustrating, rather than real skill games, e.g. the Gold Saucer Arcade games on FF7. There are some good things, however. The boss music is easily the finest of all Final Fantasy to date. Some weapons are marvellous, espescially the Dragon Claw, Angel Bless, Kain's Lance, and Mythril Racket to name a few. Seeing summons in FMV is a bonus. And Synthesis - I love it!! Creating a new item or weapon out of two others is a really good system of gaining new items. In all, it's terrible as a Final Fantasy, but is a decent game in it's own right.

Old School meets New School |
| Ben(aka "Tuna") from New York says (27/Dec/2002): |
FF IX was great for one simple reason - It took the best of new and old school and rolled it into one. My review of Anthology was that it was the best, my review of VII was that it would be remember by all who played and my review of VIII was that it owned even though hated by many. So what do I have to say about IX - another good review. This game was fun and at times emotional. I grew to love the charecters and their world. Zidane and Garnet was a good story though I liked Vivi's story more. It all in all had a positive vibe and is a solid FF game.
