What do i think of Smackdown 2 |
| The Assassin from England says (12/Oct/2001): |
Having this game nearly a year and unlocking everything once i think i know quite a bit about this game although lets start with the games warzone and attitude. I own attitude and play it quite a bit but i want to say one thing about it, THE GRAPHICS ARE CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I could draw better no rephrase that i could make better plasercine fighters than that when i was a bloody baby. As far as i am concerned about yukes and THQ taking the wwf games lincense i have somthing to say about that, they are the saviors. The graphics on smackdown 2 are amazing it doesnt look like you are fighting a piece of clay anymore, the create-a-player on smackdown 2 kick serios ass, although the only thing i don't like about it is that you can't change the move names but that isnt really important, the match combinations on smackdown two are very good the matches look very good, he different areaners are brilliant and i like the fact that you can rams a poor bastards head through a table. Anyone saying that smackdown 2 i rubbish has somthing seriosly wrong in the head.

What they should add on this game |
| A gamer says (17/Sep/2001): |
I would like to say that this game is the best game they ever made in a long time, but I have to say that they should add some of this idea to the game.
1. They should add more characters on the game like Rob Van Dam and Tajiri or something.
2. They could have done better on the wrestlers body make them more cut or muscular.
3. They should let us create our own entrance music
4. I kinda like the idea that we can name our move
5. Whenever our character is walking down the aisle and our character was the champion they should put the belt without all the time even if its not a championship match.
6. And they should let us do 3-d on the table or if we're playing a table match they should let us do any kind of slam or finishing moves through a table.
7 And the last but not the least they should have that ring announcer to say what type of match what type of championship match our wrestler name our opponent's name and they should have a commentator giving us the play by play and they should let our wrestlers talk like the real wrestlers.

tooooooooooo gooooooooooooood |
| deva from Kolkata,India says (18/May/2006): |
a definite must for all u wrestling fans out there(and non wrestling fans too).even though the graphics is not so good (but then the game is pretty old)the game is highly enjoyable.sound effects are not that good but what the heck!u can create ur own cool wrestlers.experimenting with them is fun.other features include cool matches like TLC ,hardcore, casket etc.the season mode is a little boring because there is nothing to do except skip matches.the controls are damn easy and believe me the videos are real eye openers especially jackie's.
u also get to visit the old times when the dx existed and when stone cold was there.
there are a few drawbacks(come on every game has some drawback!)it can get a little frustrating at times but its a fun game to play both on the pc and the ps.i have played other wrestling oriented games and only in terms of technicality (like graphics ,sound etc) they may be better; but sd2 is my first love. in fact it is one of the 1st games i have ever played. and 4 those of u who have not, well TRY IT.
enjoy!!!!!

| steve williams from texas united states of america says (10/Dec/2003): |

The Best Yet... |
| Paul Dunkley from Leicester, England says (17/Dec/2000): |
This is undoubtedly the best wrestling game ever, but that does not mean it is without it's faults. The game has the best graphics a PSX wrestling game can deliver, as well as detailed intros, taunts and celebrations. The choice of matches is extensive, and contrary to what some people say, the ladder match mode is very entertaining. The CAW option is the most detailed and engrossing to date, even better that that of WWF Attitude, but the major (and possibly only) fault lies in the season mode. This is enjoyable but slow, as you have to sit through the annoying simulation of each match, which just gets boring after the first time. Many people say that their CAW's aren't put on cards, but that is probably because they are not entering themselves into any title races, or are automatically entering themselves in the World Title race, you must start from the bottom, i.e. Hardcore Title, then you will be on virtually every card and work your way to the top. Try it, it works.
Overall, a damn good game which every PSX owner should purchase.

THIS GAME IS ONE OF THE BEST ON THE PLAYSTATION!! |
| Mark from Melbourne, Australia says (14/Dec/2002): |
This game is sick! It's so cool how you can get the entrance music and videos. I've got WCW/NWO Revenge on N64 and smackdown 2 kicks its ass! not because of the graphics. No playstation game has better graphics than any N64 game. But the reason this game is better is the actual gameplay. Its really easy to use and is awesome how u can rock bottom wrestlers through the announce tables etc. There are a couple of reasons i gave it 9 and not 10. One is the amount of loading time. That is the most annoying thing about all psone games a long with the graphics compared to the 64. But the loading time is way to long in SD2 and i think u should be able to turn off the storyline scenes or at least they should have less. The other annoying thing about this game is that you cant do a 3D through a table and also u cant have a tag-team TLC match. Since when do they have single TLC matches? All in all its a fantastic game and the graphics are surprisingly alright compared to other playstation games. Plz email ur thoughts of my review.

I like the game but I think THQ could have done better |
| Corey from Lorain, USA says (21/Feb/2001): |
Dislikes
1. The game takes to long to load. On the season mode they load for the dumbest things like when a group is talking they don't say what they are talking about.
2. This is not a big conCern but why don't they use a new title they have 12 ppv names they can use one of those. I don't want every ps/ps2 wwf game being called smackdown.
3. The season mode is pointless it takes forever to finish a season, they should just make the season mode like no mercy for N64. You play a season and get the belts or something worth getting.
4. The ranking, I don't know about everyone else but I hate the rating. I know its realistic but anyone should be able to go for the belts at any time
5. THERE IS NO BLOOD. I beat people to death on the game and there is no blood.
Likes
1. The graphics are good, Some of the wrestlers look real
2. The types of matches are the greatest. Table, Hell in a Cell, Casket(which is not that good), Slobber Knocker, Ladder, an TLC
3. The entrances are alot better than the first Smackdown

Simply the Best/ Fastest ever selling game in the history of gaming!!! |
| Dusan Manojlovic from Corby, UK says (17/Dec/2000): |
This has got to be one of the best sports or beat em ups (which ever category you put it in.) Everybody thought it would be tough to produce an even better game to it's predeccor but WOW didn't THQ pull it off! I mean the graphics were slightly improved on the arenas, loads of backstage areas, even more superstars, amazing new modes and litt'e details such as the announce tables or the steps at ringside. You will not get bored of this game, till the next one comes out, simply because there is so much to do - hardcore matches themselves have about 8 different game modes and the season will not bore you a bit. The fun side is in it as well as in such games as in Attitude it was all about realism and it didn't succeed in that even if it did in other areas. The entrances were improved altough they could be better, the sound was dissapointing, the music was annoying and play-by-play commentating would be alot more better. I can't wait till the game on the PS2 which is due in late spring.

So its the best but not amazing |
| The Undertaker from Cardiff - Wales says (4/Feb/2001): |
THQ are you listening.
WWF Smackdown 2 is a good game but for a few points :
1.Why the stupid boring cut-scenes ?
For instance the ones where it says
"Someone is provoking someone" or simply a whole cut scene to show a wrestler sitting on a chair nodding his head.
2.LOADING TIMES. This spoils the Royal Rumble mode.
Ok so I have badmouthed thisgame for a while now so its only fair I give a few suggestions :
1.Get rid of those BORING cut scenes
2.Try to improve loading times
3.Make damage more realistic you throw some one off the top of the cage in a Hell in a Cell match and they get up seconds later.
4.Make it for the Playstation 2 so loading times will be shorter and graphics will be better.
I think you have heard enough if THQ read this and the other articles here (NOT the ones that gave it 10/10 because they are just hardcore fans and dont see the faults in the games)and take note of suggestions I will be looking forward to WWF Smackdown 3 for PS / PS2 >;o)

SMACKDOWN SMACKDOWN !!! Well NoT BaD ;) |
| RaVi DSouza from Bombay, India says (5/Nov/2002): |
I think that Smackdown 2 is a kinda good game if you play it on exhibition mode. The CAW Mode is simply fantastic and i came up with the CAW of my whole Family :P
Well, now let me get onto the point. I think that The season mode absolutely sucks in the later part of the Game. You have to simply wait for PPVS after PPVS just to get a title shot and then thatll be the only championship match for the PPV. Then, everything is so absurd that the title is defended once in a blue moon. When you use the Create a Season Mode, the only arena u can play in is the Smackdown Arena. And, you dont get to view the rankings in there, you have to go all to the main screen whcih takes years to load. At a time nly 4 wrestlers can be on screen, it wud be better if it were 6. Well, as far as the graphics goes, Hats of to Smackdown 2. The Entrance Videos and Music are Great and the finishers and moves are superb.
If you're a Wrestling Fan , go for it Else i Have two words For Ya... 'SUCK IT'
|
Great, but the loading time is annyoing. |
| shotz from England says (15/Jun/2001): |
Smackdown 2 could possibly have been the greatest wrestling game ever if it were not for the unneccerary loading times which usually load up totally rubbish things. in season you get stupid carttons like "the rock is here 2nite" or some other rubbish. also that stupid helth meter is soooooo anoying. it spoils the season by making it to slow. even the amount of damage people take in matches is stupid. when you hit someone with a chair they dont even fall, if u chuck em off the hell in a cell they get staright back up, puttin 'em though a table does nuthin, and i is way to easy to win by submission.
but despite all this bad stuff, it remains the undisputed best wrestlin game on the PSX . its got cool matches like TLC, table, ladder, hell in a cell, king of the ring, hardcore time limit title and other things like the create a stably are wicked and the create a wreslter if WAYYYYY better tan in smackdown 1. but they dont need the create a PPV.
|
Simply amazing |
| Levon from Toronto,Canada says (26/Feb/2001): |
I really wanted to give this game a ten but i just couldnt with the loading sequences it seems they load whenever theres a chance to load. Other than that flaw which i have gotten used to and accepted i find the game simply amazing the graphics are beautiful other than the odd hand misplace. I love all the matches you can choose from, the create a p.p.v./ superstar are amazing. A great idea to put in the create a stable/maneger modes so you can keep the game up to date. Everyone says the season mode sucks but have you ever tried playing with 2+ people it keeps you wanting to play and if you ever all of a sudden hate the wrestler you are [in season mode] you can change your wrestler. the king of the ring and royal rumble could have some improvments such as being able to pick the people you play against and no loading before a wrestler comes in.other the game has some faults i think its an incredible game the people at THQ did a fantastic job
|
Smackkdown 2 is ace, but could be better. |
| Paul from Staffordshire, England says (7/Dec/2000): |
I think that Smackdown 2 is a great game, all the new matches, new wrestlers and create-a-wrestler mode back this up. But the things which are dissapointing about the game spoil this. The biggest let down in my book is that they took out edit-a-wrestler. Just look at the things that we could of changed, Kane costume, Val Venis's costume, Test's and Albert's music are just a few things that spring to mind. the season mode could be better too, and i do not like the ranking system. Good things are create a stable, and everythng you can unlock. all the new matches are brilliant, but specail matches and hardcore matches are very unrealistic. in the next wwf game i hope to see much better entrances, no ranking system, wrestlers always bringing their belts to the ring, an edit a wrestler mode and a more reralistic season mode.
Out of ten i would give Smackdown 2 8, simply because the good things outweigh the bad, and the rock is in it.

This Game Sucks |
| The Titan from Pitsburg, USA says (3/Aug/2002): |
This is the worst game on PlayStation. It takes to long to load, the gameplay is to slow, the graphics suck. I mean damn. I can knock somw dude upiside the head 20 times and he would just stand there. I could hit my special until I couldn't know more in a Hell In A Cell, I could put him throught the top, and through both tables. Then hit all of my specials again. Then try to pin him, and not even get a one count. And then you have to dive half-way across the $#< remove me > at !ing ring to get to the belt in a ladder match. You can't 3-D somevody through a table. Hell the only ways you can put them through a table is, Powerbomb, Piledriver, Rock Bottom, or a top rope move, that sucks. And in season mode it will make you do all sorts of loading just so it can say: (Whoever) Is here tonight! That is obsurd. And then when Stone Cold blows up the DX express it is so fake! Plus the game alway freezes up. I would advise everbody not to buy this game.

Good, definitely not the best |
| Gerardo García from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico says (26/Feb/2001): |
Smack Down! 2 is way better than the first installment, but eternal loading times and uneven season mode have marred it severely. Also, the CPU utter contempt towards CAW'S make it difficult to give them push and contend for a major title. The Titantrons are pretty pointless, I mean, what's the use of creating an entirely new character and having him/her enter to somebody else's video and music? It's ridiculous!
The cutscenes are boring and way too short to entertain you. The "storylines" don't follow and feuds are limited to "Champion-No. 1 contender" matches (did I say "Light-Heavyweight Title"?)
I think I'd go on with the flaws but now I'll admit the graphics are hot and so is the game engine. The only adjustments THQ should make are those with the cinematics, the skip match system, entrances, and loading time. Hopefully, Smack Down! 3 will be even closer to the wrestling panacea we've craved for so long.
|
Not that great |
| Fat Mike from Washington, USA says (30/Jan/2001): |
Yes, this game is good, but I have a few major problems with it. First, it is too similar to the first one. Also, most of the new characters were just crappy ones like Viscera and Scott Taylor. Next, no blood. The characters also get up way too fast. Powerbomb a guy of the top of the cage, and he gets up 5 seconds later! And the season mode sucks. You have to wait about an hour between each one of your matches, and watch crappy cinematics after almost every match that take a hell of a long time to load. And most of them just show somebody showing up in the arena. And then you have to sit through another load when they're finished! The special matches suck, too. I will admit, though, that this game has fast, intense matches, and the graphics are great. And I loved driving a forklift into my opponent! I say that it's worth a rent, but don't bother buying it if you have the original.
|
It doesn't matter if it is the best wrestling game ever! |
| PsiCrazy from Atlanta, Georgia...USA says (20/Dec/2000): |
Ok...you're right, it is the best wrestling game ever created, but that doesn't make it good. Just because the last twenty or so wrestling games were pitiful doesn't mean we should settle for this. The game itself is much better than the original Smackdown as far as characters, features, matches, backstage areas and so on. The load time is awful. If you want to play a season, it will take you just longer than the real thing. Unlike the original Smackdown where you could just skip right to the matches your character was participating in, you must now sit through a dramatization of each match on your way. You don't have to watch the match, but you have to watch the meters tick away on each one. In between each of these, you have loading time. Though I am highly impressed with the vast improvements from the original game, the coders need to get back to work.
|
Totally realistic! I have been watching WWF for years and this is the GAME! |
| Rick from Manchester England says (8/Dec/2000): |
Smackdown 2! Know your role came out over here on the 1st of December. I rushed to the shops the very next day and bought it.
My £29.99 was NOT wasted! The game has all the big names- Rikishi, Rock, Stone Cold, The Hardys (who all suck) Kurt Angle, Triple H, Lita, Jericho (Who all rock) and loads more. The finer points of the games, such as the way the moves are excecuted, the storylines, the mouth and facial expressions are those that make it great. I especially appreciate these because I program games i my spare time and know full well that little things make a game great. Ladder Matches, TLC, Table matches, and more game modes, wow! amazing! Create a taunt, very impressive.
Best bit- create a wrestler (scroll bars and figure alterations are second to none)
Worst bit- Sound (good entrance music but crowd noise is bad as is the in-game music)
|
Smackdown! 2 = Da BomB!! |
| SlipKnoT says (2/Nov/2000): |
I have played the complete version, and I must say that this is THE BEST wrestling game ever created! The season mode was SUPER! Austin was unlocked at Backlash, just like the previous Backlash. And he totalled the DX Express like real man! Although you have to unlock the TLC match, I have tried that match and the best move I have done is a Swanton Bomb off the ladder onto the table! That is possible, and damn! Boom! The best game ever made. Although physics are questioned in this game(Have you ever seen Matt Hardy or anyone else for that matter get up immediately right after being thrown off the Cell?), It has the most "Create-a" in wrestling history. Create-a-Taunt, stable, PPV, wrestler, even a manager. Bottom line, the best game I have ever played before. Sure to go down in history as the wrestling game that revolutionised the Genre. GET IT NOW!!
