great but not so great | | jianda from Singapore says (26/Nov/2000): | smackdown2 is definitely better than smackdown but the season mode is annoying. If I choose someone like Joey abs. I must have to wait at least 2 to 3 months till I make a cameo appearance. After playing the season mode for a year. (from backlash to wrestlemania)I can unlock players like the mean streat posse and shawn micheals but their moves are not realistic. Shawn micheals can even do the fame-asser. Take away all these faults and it can be the best playstation game in the world. By the way I really enjoy wwf new york.
| Way too much Loading Time | | "The MiC" from NY, USA says (26/Nov/2000): | WWF SMACKDOWN 2 could be a 10 game but due to way too much loading time it lacks. In Smackdown 1 there were was no loading time in Royal Rumble matches but in this game there is loading time for a new character. The Simulation in season mode takes way too long. Also Hell in a Cell matches you have to wait a while before you can climb the cage. The story board mode is great especially if you pick Triple H, but if you don't pick him you're stuck for a while. My last complaint with this game is if you're the WWF Champ you have to constantly defend in 4 way and 3 matches every show. But definetely better than your average wrestling game.
| I was Shocked | | Gianni Aiello from London, England says (26/Nov/2000): | Like I said I was shocked when i got smackdown 2. I still think its the best graphic wise and gameplay but the little things let it down. eg. table matches are not all that enjoyable as all the moves are very unrealistic through the tables also there are only two moves i can do (if you can help me let me know) these are piledriver and powerbomb. Also like everyone is saying season mode has been a faliure (other than cutscreens) Long loading times and lack of chances to fight with created wrestlers really let it down. If i am sounding negative its because I was ready for a game with all the bad aspects of the last game to be better and more but it just has not delivered.
| PS Best Wrestling Game | | Omar from Queens, New York says (26/Nov/2000): | Smackdown 2 is the best wrestling game out. You have a TLC, laddee, casket, Hel in a Cell, and so much more. The create a wrestler is too awesome. with the season mode, you'll be playing this game for months trying to unlock new cheats and codes. The only problem with this game is the loading. Royal Rumble sucks because of the excessive loading. I quite frankly dont care. This game is the best.
| It is the best game out there, but it has its problems. | | Hellcat22 from Kearney, Ne, USA says (26/Nov/2000): | It might have more matches, more wrestlers, etc. But unfortunately it also has more loading time. The thing will spend as much time loading in season mode as you spend wrestling in season mode. And in season mode when you skip matches, why can't it just tell us the winner? We don't need to see the energy bars of each guy go down, that's pointless, just tell us who won. And then on the Royal Rumble mode it takes 15 seconds for each new wrestler to come out, now if you go through the customary 30 wrestlers that's seven and a half minutes of loading time, especially if a lot of wrestler get eliminated back to back. It just gets retarded. And why can you only do two moves in the table match? I can think of at least 10 moves that can put someone through a table, not counting the top rope ones. But otherwise the gameplay is great, the characters are a lot better not to mention they have the movement tendencies, that all of them have, I just wish there wasn't so much time loading. But don't get me wrong it is a great game, the best out there, if you liked this review, email me at Hellcat22< remove me > at madhive.com, and tell me if you want a review to another game. I will play the game and write a review.
| GREAT....but some faults | | zues from karachi.Pakistan says (27/Nov/2000): | Smackdown 2 could very well be the best game on Playstation. The graphics, matches, and tag team moves are superb. The create options are very good except create a ppv(makes no sense). But there are a few points which make the game's level fall. Like no BIG SHOW, No Dudley Boys moves on tables(although they were the inventers of this match), no commentary, long load times etc. All in all the game is a much better version of the original one. Wrestling fans should add this to their collection.
| Best Wrestling Game To Date | | A gamer from Kitchener, Canada says (27/Nov/2000): | Well after spending an entire weekened with Smackdown 2 (much to my wife's dissappointment) I must say this game is awesome. The create a wrestler mode is simply amazing almost to many options to go through. The assigning of ability points is very realistic and the number of moves you can do is incredible. At first season mode with a created wreslter is a little slow but all you have to do is insert your guy into the rankings for one of the belts and things quickly pick up. I haven't even finished a year yet and my CAW is in every show and gets tons of cut scenes and headline matches. Another cool thing is that everynow and then some random created wrestler shows up and picks a fight with you(very good idea). Table matches are great fun even if you can only piledrive or powerbomb people though them. Ladder matches are easy just set the ladder up in the middle of the ring. The only problems are the load times can get annoying and the background music is boaring. Can't wait till they can get past the create-a-taunt feature and make a create-a-move feature (PS2 version maybe?).
| wwf smackdown 2 | | Andre from Jakarta says (27/Nov/2000): | I think, this game is the best wrestling game i've ever played. But, its weakness is It has no comentator ( JR and Jerry Lawler )
and the wrestlers are too quiet. They don't scream, or speak ( for example stone cold's taunt). I have a problem. I saw on Internet, wwf smackdown 2 released on November 20th. But i've gotten it before November 15th. When I played it, it was normal. But when i played season, it was hang in king of the ring. This case happened too on spider man, driver 2 and smackdown 1. By the way, in this game i've created Scott Steiner, Old Sting, Mike Awesome, Raven and Goldberg. The best one is Scott Steiner.
| this is THE BEST wrestling game to date! | | Andrew from California, USA says (28/Nov/2000): | There is possibly no way to compare other wrestling games to Smackdown 2 on the playstation. I have played many wrestling games such as warzone, attitude, wrestlemania 2k, Smackdown, etc...and none are even close to delivering what Smackdown 2 does. There are plenty of great matches such as Hardcore matches(The backstage areas are huge, 10 times larger than Smackdowns!), TLC(must be unlocked through season mode first), Ladder Match, Casket Match, Table Match(by the way, there are 3 move u do while on a table:piledrive, powerbomb, and the Rock bottom(If your wrestler is The Rock that is, u have to press down+circle), I Quit, Special Referee, Hell in the Cell(if u want to try something cool, lay your opponent on the commentators table, climb onto the top of the cage, and leap off! its quite a site!) and many more matches and secret characters to unlock which really put the reply value VERY HIGH. The graphics are a little bit improved from the originial, sound effects in the game are ok, there still is no commentating but sometimes during season mode, u hear small audio clips, music coulda used some work though. Control is very great, I had no problems with control over my wrestler. Overall, this game is great, the only *minor* problem this game has is just the long load times during season mode, they are pretty annoying, especially when it takes like 15 seconds just to load a 4 second cut scene. Overall, this game is great, especially if you have a playstation multi-tap...4 player hardcore matches anyone????(yes, 4 players can fight backstage also!!!) So if your a wrestling fan or WWF fan, GO GET THIS GAME NOW, dont hesitate! it rocks! it WILL be worth your hard earned cash!
| Absolutley Brilliant | | Tom Harding from Bolton, England says (29/Nov/2000): | Smackdown was the most addictive game i ever played... smackdown 2 is the most addictive game i have ever played now. Everything about the game is ace, it's really realistic, and the range of options is amazing, my best matches is the ladder match, table match, hell all of the special matches.
There are a couple of things though, on season mode, it has to keep loading basically after most matches, the loading time is long than the actual video sequence, and plus I agree with matthew whitworth, the royal rumble gets annoying because i takes ages to load, but overall the game rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
| A + | | Jeff from Dudleyville says (29/Nov/2000): | So far this has been one of the best wrestling games ever. The moves are easy I already mastered the characters within a week. The create a wrestler is even better than it was on Warzone. The matches are awesome. The few problems with this game are, (1)No 3D's through a table your table match options are limited, and no tag team tlc. (2) Season mode can be described in 1 word BORING. (3)And when are they going to learn that there is such a thing as and 8 man tag match, come on people quit spending your energy on Patterson and Brisco and make the 8 and 6 man tag matches. (4) the worst thing about this game is the loading it takes way to long, buy the time it loads you forget who is in the match. / With all that said you would think that this game would get a lower rating but the Hardyz and Lita make up for that crap.
| Almost Great | | J. Anthony from Detroit, Michigan, USA says (30/Nov/2000): | Think about like this. Play WWF Warzone and then play this. The differences are many and uncanny. The hype over the internet was that this was going to be the greatest wrestling game ever created...and don't get me wrong, it is. The Season mode was extremely realistic, especially when The Rock was screwed over by Vince McMahon at SummerSlam and was forced to disband. But I do believe that the creators were in a rush to complete the game as best as they could before the Holiday season began so they left some flaws in it. The only flaw really is the reoccuring one that keeps my score from becoming a 10 and that is the loading time. Throughout all these reviews, you will notice that this is the constant concern for players. I mean, how many times should we be forced to look at Essa Rios in one sitting? But I keep playing for several hours at a time, trying to complete my first year and see how many people and things I can unlock. I'll tell you that I've had the game for a week and I still have not gotten the chance to completely explore the game. It reeks of awesomeness but the NOW LOADING screen are totally hanous.
| Fair | | Statik from elmhurst, new york, usa says (1/Dec/2000): | I guess I expected too much. I mean... the caw is awesome now... but Attitudes one is still the best (except for the fact there are no baggy pants). The CAPPV is better than before... 8 matches can be included... the create a stable is the best thing so far in the game. Create a taunt is hard as hell. Create a manager is okay. For all of those interested in the 3d on the table... say WHAZZUP!... i'm joking... but i think they do have the 3d on the table. I heard that its a very hard aspect to find in the game.. but thats just me. The season sucks nad... sorry but it does. The dumb simulation is the worst... but whats even worse than worst is the fact that your CAW almost usually never shows in the events. If you choose Triple H you'll get a great deal of story lines (by the way... the story lines are awesome... would of been better if they had some dialogue... PSX 2 maybe?) but if you choose some one like Joey Abs you'll have one single match with some other jobber and than wait another year to find yourself booked again. And if you're the world champion.. you only usually get to find in these dumb fatal 4 ways with the same guys over and over again. The best thing to me this time is the women wrestlers... its alot better than before. And of course the fact that you can save up to 10 wrestlers this time!! The worst things are the seasons (cuz i repeat they suck nad) and the loading times. Have fun!
P.S. - Choose motorcycle 2 as your stables entrance thingamajig... its cool... except the guy sitting in the back seat kinda makes the entire scene look... queer.
| Play this on your PC for the ultimate wrestling experience!! | | Marc from Portsmouth, England says (1/Dec/2000): | I bought Smackdown! 2 today, and have been playing it non stop all day on my PC.. Yes, thats right PC. I use Bleem! and this excellent emulator gives me graphics 10 times better than if you play the game on the Playstation, plus the loading times are non existent. It goes straight from menu to match in about 10-20 seconds, and simulating a match only takes 5 - 10 seconds, instead of the 30 - 60 on the PS. The game is amazing, with more matches than any other wrestling game ever made.. I especially love the Hell in a Cell match. Buy it, buy it now, and buy Bleem! as well, because you haven't experienced Smackdown! 2 until you play it with Direct 3D acceleration!!!
| Smackdown 2 - The best wrestling game out there | | Tweek from St. John, Indiana says (1/Dec/2000): | As you've almost definitely heard before, Smackdown 2 is the best wrestling game ever made. There are so many features and different types of matches that you'll never get bored of it. I find myself playing it 2 or 3 hours a day. When you first get the game, you will think that it's amazing. But once you unlock all the hidden characters and matches, you'll know why it's the best wrestling game ever. New additions to this game that weren't in the first smackdown include: Ladder match, Table match, Hell in a cell, TLC match (tables, ladders, and chairs) and the list goes on. I haven't unlocked the tag team table match yet but I can't wait till I do. I'm not really big on the create a wrestler so I haven't tried it out yet. But there is also a create a taunt mode that is pretty cool if you want to take the time to do it. The graphics are probably as good as it gets on Playstation. Now I will tell you why I only gave it a 9 out of 10. It's because to me ten means PERFECT. Smackdown 2 is amazing but it's not perfect. (and no wrestling game will probably ever be). Here are some things that were less than perfect. 1) The double team moves are awesome but you can only do them in a tag format match. 2) When you're playing in a triple threat or a 4-way match, it is almost impossible to get the pin. Evertime you try to pin someone, the computer is all over you (this was a problem in the original Smackdown also). That is the biggest problem cause it really ticks you off after a while. 3)It would be nice if they could make the wrestler entrances different. 4)Obviously, no one likes the loading time. The bottom line is WWF Smackdown 2 is the greatest wrestling game ever. If you don't have it, GET IT. It's well worth the money. If you have any questions about the game, e-mail me at crayziecarl< remove me > at cs.com and I'll see if I can answer them. Peace, I'm out. -Tweek
| WWF SmackDown 2 needs a little more to be perfect | | Stone Cold from Jakarta, Indonesia says (5/Dec/2000): | Finally WWF SmackDown has comeback to Psx. This game looks to be a little bit better than the previous one. WWF SmackDown offers an almost complete list of current WWF superstars to be played, along with different variation of matches (table, ladder, hell in the cell, casket, tlc, hardcore, special referee, and more). But the biggest disappoinment about this game is the table match. The first time i saw the screenshots of table match, i was very excited (never thought before that it would be in the game). The fact is you just can do a piledriver ,a powerbomb (have ever seen something like this in real wwf?), or a top-rope move to put your opponent through the table. Luckily, rock bottom is included. It would be nicer if we could be able to put opponent through the table by executing moves like rock bottom (but they are not standing on the table), chokeslam, 3D through the table, or maybe the last ride. The other matches seem to be quite okay, except for the ladder match (the match itself is very well-done) which is a bit unrealistic because you need no title to win or to retain. Also for hell in the cell match, there should be any injuries (or even KO instantly?), if someone falls from the top of the cell.
The Season is interesting, even though the loading time is as long as hell, the simming is boring, and every wrestler seems to speak in the same way.
CAW is a lot improved from the one we saw in the first game. create a taunt is innovative (although hard to do). Create a ppv is interesting as always.
WWF SmackDown 2 is undoubtedly the best pro wrestling game ever. Variety of gameplay keeps it enjoyable and fun. It is definitely a must-have for every wrestling fan in the world.
If you agree that WWF SmackDown 2 is superior, gimmie a HELL YEAH!
| Not bad, not bad at all | | Don DeWalt from West Branch USA says (5/Dec/2000): | With the exception of the casket match, Smackdown 2 is pretty solid. From two referees, to a Hardcore title time limit brawl, it's all here. The roster is VERY complete, with the notable exception of Raven and Terri. There are a few chinks in the armor of Smackdown 2 though. When you toss your opponent off the top of the Hell In A Cell, they pop back up almost immediately. You still have to blast your opponent with a weapon about 69 times before they fall. At least 15 backstage areas to carry out yours opponents execution. 100 times better than the original. A pretty quality game!
| Alot better than SmackDown 1 but there is still room for improvement. | | Brian C. from Laplace,LA.,USA says (5/Dec/2000): | I have been waiting for this game since I saw the first preview in one of my magazines and after all the anticpitation and waiting I can honestly say that the game was well worth the wait.
First if all, there are more game modes that any other wrestling game on the market and everyone of them is suprisingly well put together with the exception of the casket match, which can be easily forgotten. The matches include table, ladder, hell in a cell, hardcore, tlc, cage(which is alot better this time around), special ref, and a "beat as many people as you can in a certain time" match called a slobber knocker match. Hardcore matches include over 13 backstage areas and you can also play triple threat, special ref, and fatal four way hardcore matches. Simply put, you can just about re-create any match ever seen on television.
Gameplay wise, not much has changed. The engine is not much different and it is mostly pretty unrealistic. Example: it takes almost a minimum of 10 chair shots just to get someone down. I can't really complain though because it is alot more fun that some other WWF wrestling game. *cough* *No Mercy* *cough*
All in all, you are not going to go wrong with this game and and if you are a fan of wrestling videogames go pick this one up just for the many modes and improved season mode. Trust me, you will not regeret this purchase, "If ya smellllllllllll what the Troublemaker is cookin!!!!!!!!!"
| Smackkdown 2 is ace, but could be better. | | Paul from Staffordshire, England says (7/Dec/2000): | I think that Smackdown 2 is a great game, all the new matches, new wrestlers and create-a-wrestler mode back this up. But the things which are dissapointing about the game spoil this. The biggest let down in my book is that they took out edit-a-wrestler. Just look at the things that we could of changed, Kane costume, Val Venis's costume, Test's and Albert's music are just a few things that spring to mind. the season mode could be better too, and i do not like the ranking system. Good things are create a stable, and everythng you can unlock. all the new matches are brilliant, but specail matches and hardcore matches are very unrealistic. in the next wwf game i hope to see much better entrances, no ranking system, wrestlers always bringing their belts to the ring, an edit a wrestler mode and a more reralistic season mode.
Out of ten i would give Smackdown 2 8, simply because the good things outweigh the bad, and the rock is in it.
| Totally realistic! I have been watching WWF for years and this is the GAME! | | Rick from Manchester England says (8/Dec/2000): | Smackdown 2! Know your role came out over here on the 1st of December. I rushed to the shops the very next day and bought it.
My £29.99 was NOT wasted! The game has all the big names- Rikishi, Rock, Stone Cold, The Hardys (who all suck) Kurt Angle, Triple H, Lita, Jericho (Who all rock) and loads more. The finer points of the games, such as the way the moves are excecuted, the storylines, the mouth and facial expressions are those that make it great. I especially appreciate these because I program games i my spare time and know full well that little things make a game great. Ladder Matches, TLC, Table matches, and more game modes, wow! amazing! Create a taunt, very impressive.
Best bit- create a wrestler (scroll bars and figure alterations are second to none)
Worst bit- Sound (good entrance music but crowd noise is bad as is the in-game music)
