Well worth a play | | speedyj from Wellington, New Zealand says (24/Sep/2002): | Driver 2 - back on the streets, indeed. The double cd pack immediately promised more action than it's prequel. The strength of this new title was to lie in the gameplay. Knowing that something different was needed to distinguish driver 2 from the original a slight GTA twist was incorporated into the game. One was now able to leave their vehicle when ever they desired (apart from when they are being pursued by a cop), having the freedom to walk around and aqquire new cars. This is very helpful in some missions, if your car gets badly damaged you may have the oppurtunity to ditch your damaged car and get a new car. There are a good variety of cars to choose from, however I personally don't think that the cars performances are contrasting enough.
Car damage is still a strong aspect of the game and plays an important role in some of the missions. Due to the fact that one can dump their car when it gets too damaged takes the emphasis off of car care, to me this is a good thing as it lets the game be played at a more fun level.
I was a little suprised at the graphics when I first saw them, but once I started to play it I quickly got used to them. The only aspect of the graphics which I don't really like is that none of the cars have reflections(this surprised me as driver did have them). Not to worry.
The cities are amazing, unlike the first driver there is a lot more variation in the cities. Chicago;the typical urban skyline, Havana; Cuba at it's best - some very nice scenery, Las Vegas; just like in the movies - awesome at night time and Rio; A nice balence on natural wildlife and city living. Each city is enormous, consisting of a central city area, residential housing, industrial and every other aspect that a city has. I timed a round trip around Chicago's highway to take nearly 10 minutes!, thats a long time when you're driving flat-tak.
The game plot is well thought out, however unlike driver there is no choice of missions to accept, ie. no answering machine. In a way this is good because you don't miss out on anything. There are rougly around 10 missions per city, give or take one or two missions. After reading some of the reviews I have noticed that mission difficulty has been a common point. Like any game driver 2 has its tricky missions, but what fun would it be without a challenge. I must say it did take me a few goes to catch the crook around the mountain pass, as well as chasing the chopper, but it was all good fun. If you were able to finish driver, or come close then driver 2 shouldn't be to much of a jump, just a bit of new scenery.
There are also the driving games similar to those in the first driver, however I still find the cruising around (take a ride) much more enjoyable mainly due to the freedom of being able to do whatever I desire. You don't need to be a hardcore car junky to appreciate this game, you don't even need to have played the first driver, although it would be of some assistance. Driver 2 has embraced the GTA concept like nobody else and given it some very dazzling backdrops. If you think you can handle some fast paced action then driver 2 is waiting for you.
| Worth a look | | Daryl says (26/Oct/2000): | Driver 2 is an extensive sequel to the original which was a great game with an original feel.. Driver 2 appears to have been made with the gamers input used to create the ultimate undercover infiltration into the criminal world car game.
The games graphics are similar in creation to the original driver, although they have decided to add more realistic roadways, including tunnels, long bends and overpasses along with wharfs and ferrys, giving the game a more chaotic feel when trying to escape the cops..
The sound i feel could be better, with maybe some alternate music for each vehicle or area...
On the subject of vehicles, the creators have taken into account the request for being able to use other vehicles, on certain levels of the game you have a choice of two vehicles, and during any mission you may exit the vehicle you are in and car jack another, this is a bonus for the gamer as you can smash the car as much as you want and then just car jack another with no damage. The cops in Driver 2 dont appear to be real smart as they are extremely easy to lose and dont set up too many road blocks... again, car jacking a new undamaged vehicle also decreases your felony meter...
The game doesnt pose much difficulty for the hard core Driver, less experienced players of the original may find it difficult in some levels but overall i found it to be quite easy to complete each mission.
The game has a quick feel with many missions being broken down into several parts... instead of getting from one point to another and completing the task set down at that point it is broken down to... get from a to b, next mission, complete mission at point b. this is a great fix to the originals method of completion, making the game a more playable and fun game.
All the original commands have been retained apart from the rear view to see where the cops are, this is one attribute i wish they had kept, as i feel checking the cops position to set them up for a smash was an extremely fun part of the original driver... i am just glad that the circle button still remains the burn out button.
Driver 2 being 2 discs, makes it worth the effort to purchase as you know for certain, its going to keep you busy for a while to come and give you many hours of enjoyable Driving fun.
Finally, there is no requirement to complete a test as in the original garage test, this makes the game a more playable game to the average driver who doesnt have much car game experience and doesnt like to be stuck on a level they can not complete.
Overall i rate the game as great, it has all the feeling of the original, there is not too many changes from the original, i feel its more so a next mission add-on than anything. If you are deciding wether or not to get Driver 2, i insist you do, you will not be disappointed if you liked the original.
| I think most of you are very immature and inexperienced casual gamers | | M Dillon G M from Tokyo, Japan says (7/Aug/2002): | For most of you liars, beating even the third to last level where you chase your friends hitman in rio is so awfull in the perspective of how challenging it is not to lose him that most gave up before even making it half way around the narrow mountain pass, where the driving expertise is so persice that all my friends gave up a year ago and sold it to me, bad decision for them as in 4 months of excrusiating emotional pain I eventualy cought that horridred car from hell, after having practiced up to that point without a memory card for 2 months in the first place, I was relived at 12:16 AM on a cool spring night in may! Only to smoke through the next level and eventualy end up stuck for 4 hours more on Pink Lenny's $#< remove me > at !ing chopper level! That $#< remove me > at ! crashed and burned by that old abandoned construction site at that dead end road on the north-east side of the stinkin town. Haha, but I was very unhappy with the ending, much like shenmue except I'd actualy consider the next game in this series as I was dissapointed after beating GTA III 3 times, each getting erased soon after to a lame ol' memory card bug that many of my friends had suffered too. Oh yeah, All of the games switches to the secret car areas are next to or within a block in any direction of the locked entrances, I know this because I've hunted the map clean from yahoo advertisements to mountain-Dew and infogrames itself! After the credits roll, all of the pedestrian and non-secret cars will be selectible in take a ride mode, and oh yeah, there are very cool non-gameshark glitches that you should look into, like a wheelie with the cooper (simple one) or harder ones like raining cars in chicago or tricks with the strip in las vegas or no buildings at all! This game is very difficult to master and most casual gamers will end up selling this gem long before it's time. And why do I rate a game consived by such high standards none more than a 6? Because even before mastered for many, this game loses its shine from the later repetitive difficulty and that most who fall in as deep as I once was will eventualy become bored after finding that the immunity and invinciblility, Icluding mountain pass, and racetrack in rio. Although fun for "flying" on hard dificulty (Due to the violent nature of Hard cops) These additions will keep a gamer satisfied for a good year! But when placed next to the predesessors 'Button accessible' codes they don't half live up to the effort and time such a difficult task can bestowe upon the average gamer. A master this game takes not, but a good challenge and lots of time and energy is my main concern. And when looking for a game that is very hard to be beaten in just months, this is definately a title well worth your hard -earned dollar.
| Bummer! | | Arend Hart from Mchigan says (27/Nov/2000): | One of the best games to come out on the PSone was Driver. Yeah, it had it's problems, but all in all, it rates as a classic. It's real-deal damage, exciting police chases and gravity-defying stunts were excellent enough to make up for the horrendous storyline, the lack of any street curvature, the terrible interpretation of American traffic patterns (a left hand turn from the right turn lane?) and the lack of variety in traffic vehicles (everyone in San Fransisco drives a Pinto?). Driver was a great game to play alone or with friends.
So when Reflections announced a new edition to Driver, the world was waiting with crossed fingers. Would it be as good as the original? Would the streets have curves? Would the yellow stripes be in the middle of the road, where they belong? Well, sad to say, even though a lot of the problems have been addressed, Driver 2 is somewhat of a bummer release.
Remember a year ago, when Sony kept putting off Gran Turismo 2, only to release it with a bunch of glitches because they were pressed to get it out before Christmas? Well looks like the same thing happened with Driver 2...although worse. Plagued with pop-up, clipping and slow framerates, these problems are detructive enough to distract from the gameplay and make for a disappointing experience. I mean, when a building pops up 15ft in front of you, it's not only distracting, but also quite startling.
There is some good, though. The cutscenes, a big thorn in the side for the developers of the original Driver, are definitely cooler, with some of the best face-work seen yet on the PSone. Also, you now can jump out of a completely damaged car and car-jack a fresh beauty (even if it's a schoolbus)...although controlling Tanner on foot is not the easiest thing to do. And yeah, there are curves in the roads now, although they look like they drop off into a deep crevasse 15ft in front of the car.
All in all, I think there is too much going on in this game. Maybe if the buildings weren't each a separate 3D polygon, or if each car didn't have to be programmed to be car-jackable (now there's a word...I'll have to get with Webster's to get that one patented!) this game might run a bit quicker and push some of that popup back into the distance where it won't detract from the game. But I don't expect a major recall or anything, so we'll just have to wait for a PS2 version, dodging the oncoming traffic which suddenly appears 15ft in front of your vehicle.
| Great game | | A gamer from Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA says (12/Feb/2002): | I think that this game is great! The graphics are very good; there is only two things wrong. In high speed chases, all of a sudden, the gameplay stops, then starts, then stops again, then starts again. This goes on for an average of usually 5-10 seconds. Also, there is one more thing. Sometimes, all of a sudden, your car falls through the road and into nothingness. Also, there are some spots that if drive into outline bushes or walls (separates road from your car falling off the screen)hard enough, your car goes through and falls off of the screen. If you liked Driver 1, I guarantee that you will like this game. It has its similarities with Driver 1, but in Driver 2, you can get out of your car and into another and your felony bar and damage bar go all the way down(obviously, since you get into another car and the Police don't know that it's you who just got into a chase with them). What I really like is that the bridges in Chicago go up and down. If you time it perfectly, when a cop is chasing you, you can go up the already steep drawbridge(but not so steep that you can't go up) and juuuust make it over, but the cop doesn't have enough speed or momentum to make it across and he either plunges into the big empty space below the drawbridge or rolls right back dow the bridge, letting you get away. This has happened to me a few times. One particular time, at least six cops were chasing me(I just broke through a roadblock) and I barely made it across the bridge because the back of my car hit the end of the bridge, but I managed to push myself up. Two of the cops fell into "the big empty space" and the other four just rolled down the other side. I found this very relieving because I had been playing the "Take A Ride" part of the game for at least 2 hours and my car was about one small tap from being wrecked, but I just went down the other side of the bridge slowly, away from the cops' range (very carefully, so I didn't attract any more cops' attention)and as soon as I got out of their range, I stole another car and played for at least another hor and a half. If you are reading this review to see if you would like to buy Driver 2, it is a great game, and if you buy it, it will provide you with months of car-stealing, bone-cracking hits,heart-stopping action. If you do enjoy this game and think that everthing I wrote is true, write me at cmkumor< remove me > at home.com
| This can't be a "game" because that word suggests its fun. | | Adam from London, England says (20/Sep/2003): | It can't be a "game" because that word suggests there's something fun about "Driver 2." There isn't. Lets suppose you actually found a copy that works like I did (I've heard a lot of copies of the game don't work even if they are new.) Even then the game slows down sometimes, usually breaking your concentration when you need it most, then suddenly speeds up again. The graphics are unrealistic, we've seen most of the "Driving games" before in the original Driver and the two-player option is a disappointing waste of time on the discs. Those are just the minor problems however.
One of the worst things about the game is the disappointing "Take a Ride" option. In it you can steal cars. Cool right? Wrong because when you are out of you're car you walk at a snail's pace, all the other pedestrians look the same and you can't talk to them or anything and there are no cars worth stealing. Sure it’s a good idea to be able to steal cars but surly the idea could be exploited better. This is the main problem behind the entire game in fact: its been made in a hurry with little thought put into it.
The biggest problem of all however the difficulty. I don't mind a challenge but the first mission on this game is like one of the Los Angeles mission on the original Driver. In other words if this was the original Driver we'd be half way through at least by now. Yet it’s only mission one! The mid way point is like the very last level on the original Driver and the "Chase the Gunman" mission is possibly the hardest computer game level in history. It’s an almost painful mission to play and by the time you’ve won you’ll be so cross you won’t be able to enjoy winning it.
If the game was more addictive this challenging difficulty level might be ok but it’s a very dull game that you get sick of in five minutes.
There are a few positive things, like a very good plot that makes more sense than most movie plots these days even though this is about the levels not the cut scenes. Also some of the ideas, like the two-player version of the game, have potential but that potential is never fulfilled. It would be good if it was fun but it is the most completely un-fun "game" I've ever played.
| Driver 2 - Dream or dud? | | A gamer from Belfast,Northern Ireland says (1/Jan/2002): | To me, Driver 2 has been a pleasing experience. I find it entertaining breaking the law- highjacking cars, buses etc. and going through red lights, on the the wrong way down a one way road! The new features that differ it from the original driver include:
-multiplayer
-different cities
-get out of the car
-steal new cars
and there is much more.A few let downs are hitches i have found. Sometimes you are driving down the road and suddenly you fall into water (that comes from nowhere in the middle of the road) and it is game over. Also, i have got stuck behind buildings . wot happened was, I sat of a dining chair in chicago, was hit by a car and was vaulted through a shop windo. This may sound fun, but i was the stuck there and had to restart.
The multiplayer i also find disapointing. 2 player 'take a ride' soinds brilliant except for the fact that you have very little space in the city, you are stuck on the incar view, the only cars are you and player 2's car and there is no cops. Fun to start but soon gets as exciting as a dead cat.
I think the undercover is exciting and i like the way there is no test to see you do the things with your car as there is in the original. The story lines are average and the difficulty is hard. Good for a while, but if you become stuck on one particular level, you soon get bored.
I agree that the cops can be harder. But for the dunces who haven't worked it out, when you buy thr game the cops are automaticlly on hard mode. You have to go to the options menu (on the main screen) and turn it to easy. I think the control is the same, as long as you get a good car. A slow or one with high damage is slower and harder to control.
I think if they briought it out on PS2 or X-box after improving the points I listed it would be a big hit, especially with the improved graphics.
In conclusion, Driver 2 is as good as Driver (1) and it give hours of fun but can be annoying at times, especially the corny music in the backround. Try renting it before buying because it is one of those things some will like and others will not.
I give driver 79% as a rating
Thanks for taking time to read this
| Fun, with *some* problems | | Neil Miller from Chicago, IL USA says (25/Nov/2000): | I thoroughly enjoyed the first Driver. Just about every mission. Driver 2 however, I find goes to one extreme or the other. Either the levels are as fun as the first game, or darn near impossible.
First my gripes: I found the level in Havana where Tanner is supposed to wreck 4 cars in an insanely short amount of time almost harder than the last mission in the first game, where he's attempting to save the President.
And *ultimately* frustrating is the ability of the car you're chasing (espically when it's heavily damaged, or the same model) to go faster than you do down the straightaways. That Havana level is an excellent example of this...one moment you're neck and neck, the next the target is shooting down the road...with a car that's a notch from being totaled.
OK. Now the good news:
I'm from Chicago, so I must say that the levels there represent a life-long dream to speed past slower traffic downtown. :) Although, I am kind of sad that they didn't include lower Wacker Drive. Many excellent car chases have been down there (Including the Blues Brothers). I've often wished to jump over the rising bridges over the Chicago River, just like in that move also. Thanks programmers. And for those of you who aren't in Chicago, they have Wrigley Field oriented the wrong direction.
The get-to levels are fun as are the get-aways. I haven't been to Rio yet, but Chicago and Denver are pretty fun cities in which to tool around.
Overall I gave the game a 7 because of the frustrating levels. They're not difficult to figure out, they're just difficult for the purpose of being difficult. Which hurts the overall game. There are graphic slowdowns and I do miss the ability to choose missions.
| Good Game, just needs practice to play.PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! | | Nick from Virginia, SA says (17/Jun/2004): | Most people think this game stinks, but I think it is a pretty good game. Yes, the "Undercover" mode is hard at first, but if you Practice, try everything, devise paths to reach the points you need to get to, I am SURE that you just might like this game. There are also secret cars that can be unlocked by performing special actions. Here are the secret cars: for chicagoi, the secret car is a Yellow car with Black stripes. For Havana there is a Pink and white Mini-Couper. The other cars are for you to find. it has some decent driving games, like Quick Chase, Quick Getaway, Trail Blazer, Gate Racing, Check-Point Racing, and 3 other games, 2 of them are secret, the other one i forgot the name of.
It has brand name cars, like Oldsmobile,Chevy,Mini-couper,Bobtail, Challenger, The Ute Semi Truck, and others that i just can't seem to remember the names to.
In undercover Mode, You play as Tanner, a coool, confident, undercover driver.he drives around with Tobias Jones, whom works with Tanner. as the plot unfolds, Tanner and Tobias get taken to key places in the game, like Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas, and Rio. Tanner must complete missions in these places in order to fulill the goal of the game.Completing these missions may seem hard at first, but if you put your mind to it,and practice a lot, you just might get somewhere.
The problem with this game is that it seems hard at first. That causes people to give up quickly. Everybody,if you just put your mind to it and try hard, you WILL succeed.trust me!
Overall, i give this game an 8.Hope you take my advice and actually enjoy the game like some people just can't because some people are just...Lazy.
| Has flaws but still ace! | | A gamer says (20/Dec/2000): | Driver 2. Good or bad? Brilliant. If has a lot of faults but you can't help but have fun. I liked the first one but this definitely beat it. When I first played Driver 2 I was shocked buy the pop up buildings and that the graphics hadn't changed. But it was fun. It was very fun. It runs at a resonable speed and after a while I stopped thinking about the graphics and pop up. I was just enjoying it.
The gameplay is quite like Driver. But like Driver it is very clever. The skids and spins all add to the excitement. Once you are used to the handling of the cars you'll know what I mean.
The best new addition is the two player mode. It just pips Tanner's ability too get out of his car. There is a huge slow down on the two player mode but it is still great fun. Everyone knows that there is nothing like a bit of fun competition on Playstation games. And Driver 2 provides just that. Personally I like take a ride two player. Nothing beats two crap drivers let loose in a huge city all alone!!!
Onto the freedem. Tanner can now escape from his car and jump into anyone elses. How cool is that. Even cop cars. This brings new life to the game. It's not something to do alot but it is one extra option to use at your convinience.
Undercover mode rocks. The cut scenes are amazingly real. Their lips move and everything. The story line is good and the missions not impposible as in Driver 1. And just incase you loose the plot the kind people have made it so everytime you load up your game you get a short video reminder.
Add all these great features to the curved roads, river jumps, secret cars and 4 cities and out pops a big fat 10!
| Not Bad - But Improvements Aren't Hard To Come Bye! | | J@CE @CE! from Auckland, New Zealand says (12/Dec/2000): | A lot of people are saying; "Driver I was better because of.... and ...." but i think Driver I was better in some respects, yet Driver II is better in others. I mean getting out of your car and stealing other ones - nice touch. But i dont think people just leap out of their cars as soon as someone opens the door! It would probably at least take a knife or a gun to get them out, and what can we do when where not in a car what can you do? - Run around, run around, oh! and run around! If you could get guns or maybe go in apartment buildings etc. In Driver II you are offered a choice of cars which is great but come on not everyone in the city drives one of four cars. And dont get me started on those trucks in Havana with the rocket boosters or whatever they have that allows them to out-run Beasty 60's cars.
I also find that my copy of Driver II jerks a lot and runs really slow at times - it has even stoped once! Which can be a bugger when you are right at the end of a mission, I know it is hard to get things running completely smoothly on the old PSX One but i think the jerkiness can be some what reduced! Anyway stealing cars is cool and the missions arent to hard if you cant do them then just keep playing until you are good enough. I find that Driver II is more Exciting and has more depth than the first. I know its easy for us to sit here and say "I Want That..... I Want This!" But hey Driver II is a great game and has had me playing it quite a lot lately but there is room for improvement - So I Say keep up the good work! and if theres a Driver III it should be a cracker!
| one big let down | | the man from Hilliard, USA says (23/Jun/2001): | yes! there finally making a sequel to my favorite game driver! tha's what i was thinking when i found out about it. i new about geting out of your car and taking someone elses, and the multi player modei thougt it was going to bow driver 1 away. i also thougt that the cops migh try to pull you over once and a while, instead of slaming you into a wall for speeding throug a red light.
and then i got the game, where to start, the cops are alot tougher and will wreck your car for breathing croked, the graphics are even worse in multi player mode you can't get out of your car, you're confined to only sections of a level, and you're in "inside car" veiw only. that's only the first of it every now and then you will fal thruogh the road, it will freez up,you will drownd for no aparent reason,or the game will go into automatic slow-motion mode. and now for the main screw ups in the making of this game,
-drowning in ankle-deep water
-annoying car engines(they sound like vacume cleaners)
-cars trying to shove you off the road because they need to change lanes
-cars honking repeatedly and anoyingly at you, even when you stop at a red ligt(if you ram into them you get caught, run a red you get caugt, it drives me insane.
well that was the bad part (if i missed anything please contact me) for the good part, you can get out of your car, and ther is a multi player mode( even if it sucks,)there are more reasons not to buy this game than there are good reasons to, just take a test drive(rent it) before buying it to see if you like it. --thanks for your time.
| Driver 2 will drive you wild | | GamerX from Paris,France says (27/Oct/2000): | I recieved Driver 2 about a week ago , and its definitely one of those WOW games . The game play and graphics have improved a lot since the first driver . Also, the major problem that a lot of gamers had with the first release was the long loading time, Driver 2 loads real quick and smooth .
The graphics in the game are wonderful,I never experienced the slightest slow-up even when there were a multitude of cars onscreen crashing or during high speed , in-city chase episodes. While driving through Chicago, you sometime totally forget its a game, the surroundings are so real. The sound is as authentic and high quality as it comes , from the revved engines to the squeel of tires on rubble, the sound is top notch, almost forgot , man , the oldie soundtrack is awesome. The gameplay is like a dream come true , the controls are excellent , but you have to realize that these cars are not those sport toys but classic cadillacs and stuff ,one mistake on a turn and your ride's gonna slide straight to hell , so you have to find your pattern there and once you do, its smooth sailing all the way. The game's over all atmosphere is extremely noi`rish , very 50's gangster kinda mood, which is heightened by the tough guy dialogues. Some situations are really tense like when you have to escape from cane's compound in a timed event and catch a bridge just before it elevates.
I highly recommend Driver 2 to racing game enthusiasts, and even to non racing fans for its sheer entertainment value.
| An adrenaline rush !! | | Bjorn van Steen from Roosendaal, Holland says (20/Nov/2000): | Driver2 is the perfect sequel! I mean everything that could possibly be improved on the first game HAS indeed been improved. The developers deserve nothing but respect for what they've done with this game! Even if we forget the things like bigger cities, more vehicles and other "sequel-stuff" like that it is still evident that these guys went out of their way to supply the gamer with a game nothing short of excellent.Personally, I think the biggest improvement on the first game are the undercover missions themselves. Some of them are just so cool you really feel like a rubberburning bad-ass after completing them!!
A good example is the one where you have to beat a train to save a guy in the trunk of a car that is set a few miles down the railroadtrack.Or the one where you face certain death having to chase a gunman over a twisty mountain road breaking through the protective fence every now and then..... I mean, I'm writing this review after just having completed that one and I have to say that that chase was one of the biggest adrenaline rushes I personally ever experienced in a videogame!
EXCELLENT !!!
The only point of criticism I have is the fact that Driver2 DOES demonstrate the absolute limits of the 5 year old playstation.
There IS some slowdown now and then and the whole thing does have a "gritty" look. So maybe, just maybe, Reflections should have waited and put this game out on the awesome playstation 2..........
Driver 3 guys ?????
| Addictive and fun, override the flaws | | Mark Leung from Sydney Australia says (5/Jul/2001): | Driver 2 is very addictive. It will be one of the few video/computer games I will actually bother to finish, because of the storyline as well as the huge variety of fun missions. The only other two video games I have ever completed are Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid. Other games just get boring after a while.
The game is very hard, but thats what makes it challenging and addictive. I have to play most levels many many times to get through them, in particular the 4 car smash one, which took me a whole weekend to finish. Right now I am still playing the run the gunman off the road stage in Rio which I think is impossible. I've tried incessantly for days - but the gunmans car is just too strong, and its not easy to keep on his tail in the mountains. Any cheats anyone?
The graphics are rather dodgy. Buildings don't appear till you are near them, and in some instances cars don't appear until youre about to hit them (especially if you drive ahead of the car youre chasing). In stages like the one where you run the gunman off the road, when you fall off the mountain the graphics go all weird. Sometimes you can even be rammed through a solid wall and off the map by a police car!
And most annoying is the fact that the game gets jerky during some chases and occasionally freezes. I thought it was my CD but other people are having this problem too.
But this is still a very fun game, if not very frustrating when you can't finish the levels!
| whats the point | | jaz from leicestershire England says (22/Jul/2002): | The one player mode on this game is exiting and purposeful, it has a variety of levels and is a definate improvement on the first game driver 1. I find that the graphics could be alot more realistic and smoother but generaly it is good for a ps1 game. When i bought the game i was looking for a fun game with a good two player mode and a fantastic one player mode. When i got the game home me and my brother played the two player option first and we were desperatly disapointed, there was no variations on the cities and there was basicaly no point in playing it, we then had a go at the different games which were more suited to a six year old. after playing the two player game we decided to play on the one player option called take a ride we were not extatic but at the same time not diapointed, unlike the 2 player there were police chasing me when i broke the speed limit but the police seemed to have no intelligance and to my disapointment when the police caught up with me instead of arresting me or beating me up they kept smashing my car by ramming me, the only thought i had was how realistic this was, not! the only other fault this game has is that there are only a few cars to choose from which is very boring and after a while there is no suprise. If this game had more cars, more improved graphcs and a better and more breathtaking two player mode this game would easily be the best game around, and i would give it 10/10.

| Lazy players miss the point in this awesome sequel | | Luke from Sydney, Australia says (7/Dec/2000): | Numerous reviews on this page have complained about the difficulty levels of Driver 2, in particular the Havana mission which requires you to destroy four cars. These players miss the point of Driver and Driver 2. The aim of the game is to create a mood, an atmoshere of Seventies gas guzzler excess and free-from responsibility hard driving adventure. It's not about acurate physics as much as it is about acute atmospherics. The Havana mission in question needs to be attacked with style not frustrated glances at the fast diminishing time clock. Look at the map. Choose your plan of attack, look at where the target is headed and cut him off at the pass. Plan when you will ditch your wheels for a newer ride, one without black smoke pouring from the bonnet. Hijack a truck if it's handy, the damage it'll do will far outweigh the dents it'll take. Relax man, this game is cool. I loved the chance to cruise Havana and leap from one enourmous fifties metal beast to the next. Las Vegas I still getting used to. The Limo takes a licking and keeps on ticking and the ambulance makes a pleasant siren noise as you break all the available laws. I give this one nine out of ten. The graphics aren't eyepopping, to be sure, but it's when a game captures your imagination that it truely excells. That's why some fail and others soar. This one is a classic.
| Christmas Money maker | | Frustrated from Yorkshire says (30/Nov/2000): | I was looking forward to this sequel since the Original was released. I must say I'm disappointed, it doesn't seem to be a finished product, rather more a game released in time for Christmas to gain sales figures.
The cities are much improved and the idea of being able to exit the car gives the game more depth. But I have played the Chicago section and now I am struggling my way through the Havana missions, but I must say some of the tail the bad guy missions are about as interesting as watching paint dry.
On the 'Find the Clue' mission I found that the slow down through the windy streets often makes the car uncontrollable, and just how do you complete this mission in the time limit. I am no whizz I admit, but I managed to complete the original Driver. After approx 15 attempts I have decided to look for a level jump, it is too frustrating to be enjoyable anymore.
It doesn't seem to have been fully tested for playability. I don't mind a challenge, but the missions are either dull or extremely hard. There doesn't seem to be much in-between.
Overall, the cities are great and the carjacking adds extra to the original but the games isn't as polished and sparkling as I feel it might have been had they released at a later date with further testing and enhancements.
| The True Review | | Pat from Usa says (20/Jan/2001): | The highly anticapated Driver 2 in my opinion was a flop.
Were should I begin? Should I begin were...The game freeze's and stalls on you quite often? Or how about when your in a high speed chase and all of a sudden its like driving in slow motion?
We'll ok I have to admit, it wasn't all bad.
I did enjoy the fact of were you could get out of your vehicle, and steal another, and how good the missions are.
BUT the bad out wieghs the good...
For instance, the graphics are some of the worst graphics I have seen in a racing game, poor quality and coloring.
When driving at night, it looks like they just made it black and white and added a few colors...its terrible.
Or how about when you think your going on a full stright away and a building loads infront of your eyes 0.3 seconds before you hit it?
All in all this game is ridiculous, I bought it for 40.00 dollars like all of you guys, but it wasn't worth it.
To you guys who dont have it, if you aboslutely think you must have it, wait tell it becomes older and drops to $20.00 then thats about how much the game should have started out at.
I don't know if they ran out of time or money, but I was truly disappointed.
Thanks
