killer38062

J.O.D. from Greeley, CO says (8/Jan/2004):
This game not only has the most realalistic driving phisics I've ever seen. But its fun as hell.#uck all you pu$$ys who shun it because of the graphics. The game play is #ucking sweet. The missions are extremly challenging and if you beat the Joddamn game you could really out run the cops. this game honest to jod tought me to drive. Maby that ain't a good thing but hell I haven't killed anyone yet. so I give this game ten stars mainly cause the phisics are so damn realalistic but also cause I can never get tired of killing pigs.and by the way if you ever make it to that damn "chase the gunman" mission there's really no tricks or cheats that will help you. You just gotta be the fastest smoothest most aggressive S.O.B. ever. cause that son of a b*tch is a pu$$.oh and the yellow cars got better handling.

Good Game, just needs practice to play.PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!41342

Nick from Virginia, SA says (17/Jun/2004):
Most people think this game stinks, but I think it is a pretty good game. Yes, the "Undercover" mode is hard at first, but if you Practice, try everything, devise paths to reach the points you need to get to, I am SURE that you just might like this game. There are also secret cars that can be unlocked by performing special actions. Here are the secret cars: for chicagoi, the secret car is a Yellow car with Black stripes. For Havana there is a Pink and white Mini-Couper. The other cars are for you to find. it has some decent driving games, like Quick Chase, Quick Getaway, Trail Blazer, Gate Racing, Check-Point Racing, and 3 other games, 2 of them are secret, the other one i forgot the name of.

It has brand name cars, like Oldsmobile,Chevy,Mini-couper,Bobtail, Challenger, The Ute Semi Truck, and others that i just can't seem to remember the names to.

In undercover Mode, You play as Tanner, a coool, confident, undercover driver.he drives around with Tobias Jones, whom works with Tanner. as the plot unfolds, Tanner and Tobias get taken to key places in the game, like Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas, and Rio. Tanner must complete missions in these places in order to fulill the goal of the game.Completing these missions may seem hard at first, but if you put your mind to it,and practice a lot, you just might get somewhere.

The problem with this game is that it seems hard at first. That causes people to give up quickly. Everybody,if you just put your mind to it and try hard, you WILL succeed.trust me!

Overall, i give this game an 8.Hope you take my advice and actually enjoy the game like some people just can't because some people are just...Lazy.

Its only a PS1 game41342

Brian Atkins from Rossville, Georgia in the U.S.A says (6/Nov/2003):
well i think it is ok for a ps1 game, it wont be perfect, none of the games for PS1 games are as good as the PS2. of corse there are better games with better graphics but like i was sayin its not goin to be perfect. but like Vice city has better graphics. there will always be something better than any game there is no perfect game. there will never be a perfect game.

Think Grand Theft Auto Games are the best? Think again.31017

A gamer says (25/Aug/2003):
When I first started playing this game, I thought "Oh no, just another boring game". I played it a while but out of anger got tired of trying to beat Escape To The Safehouse. So I stopped playing it. Boy, that was the wrong choice. I came back and beat that mission, and it took me about a week to beat the next mission "Pursue Jericho". My conclusion here folks, is that Driver 2 is a very fun game, yet hard. But being hard makes it even better. I bet the mission "Steal the Cop Car" is harder than any mission in the GTA series. My conclusion here, is never give up on a game, and try to get this game if you can.
By the way I'm on Las Vegas right now in case you wanted to know, and I'm stuck on Car Bomb.

its a good game to play if you liked grand theft auto30252

carl reddock from england manchester says (16/Aug/2003):
I only had the game for a bit coz it dissapeared but i was amazed at the difference from driver 1 coz i thought that the first one was sh!t but on 2 its a lot better coz you can hi-jack cars and choose your first car plus if you had a hard time coping with the police and your cars not looking too pretty you can just go and rob another one plus you can get around the city on foot but the realy cool thing about it are the bridges cos unlike 1 the bridges rise to let boats through and when there half way up give it some welly and fly over the bridge seya

crap sucks hell bad don't buy it40581

Kasheeban Sureshan from Perth,Western Australia,Australia says (22/Apr/2004):
This game is the worst game i've ever played don't buy it no matter what but seems like driver 3 is coming on ps2 and it looks like a good game but driver 2 sucks so bad so don't buy it orright. The graphics are so bad and the cops are very bad at chasing you and it's so hard to control that the car always skids and you can't even shoot people. Or attack people. The cars are also really pathetic and the cars don't have any meaning but overall you won't enjoy it. My brother bought it and i know how it is. So don't buy it or you'll regret it. THERE'S ONE SECRET CAR IN EACH LEVEL SO GO FIND IT IF YOU BOUGHT IT BUT THE CARS SUCK ANYWAY.

Driver2 is the best game on earth!!!!!30323

Robert Trujillo from Belen NM USA says (17/Aug/2003):
Driver2 is a very cool game. I love the graphics.I like how you can get out of your car. And how you can ramp the bridges when ther up.But it would be a lot better if there was a bigger selection of cars. And I love when your in Havana you can go to that big house. Driver2 was pretty hard. But I did beat it to the second disc. And made it to Rio but I cant beat the level where you have to steal the cop car.So Driver is a really cool game to play!!!

Well worth a play9783

speedyj from Wellington, New Zealand says (24/Sep/2002):
Driver 2 - back on the streets, indeed. The double cd pack immediately promised more action than it's prequel. The strength of this new title was to lie in the gameplay. Knowing that something different was needed to distinguish driver 2 from the original a slight GTA twist was incorporated into the game. One was now able to leave their vehicle when ever they desired (apart from when they are being pursued by a cop), having the freedom to walk around and aqquire new cars. This is very helpful in some missions, if your car gets badly damaged you may have the oppurtunity to ditch your damaged car and get a new car. There are a good variety of cars to choose from, however I personally don't think that the cars performances are contrasting enough.

Car damage is still a strong aspect of the game and plays an important role in some of the missions. Due to the fact that one can dump their car when it gets too damaged takes the emphasis off of car care, to me this is a good thing as it lets the game be played at a more fun level.
I was a little suprised at the graphics when I first saw them, but once I started to play it I quickly got used to them. The only aspect of the graphics which I don't really like is that none of the cars have reflections(this surprised me as driver did have them). Not to worry.

The cities are amazing, unlike the first driver there is a lot more variation in the cities. Chicago;the typical urban skyline, Havana; Cuba at it's best - some very nice scenery, Las Vegas; just like in the movies - awesome at night time and Rio; A nice balence on natural wildlife and city living. Each city is enormous, consisting of a central city area, residential housing, industrial and every other aspect that a city has. I timed a round trip around Chicago's highway to take nearly 10 minutes!, thats a long time when you're driving flat-tak.

The game plot is well thought out, however unlike driver there is no choice of missions to accept, ie. no answering machine. In a way this is good because you don't miss out on anything. There are rougly around 10 missions per city, give or take one or two missions. After reading some of the reviews I have noticed that mission difficulty has been a common point. Like any game driver 2 has its tricky missions, but what fun would it be without a challenge. I must say it did take me a few goes to catch the crook around the mountain pass, as well as chasing the chopper, but it was all good fun. If you were able to finish driver, or come close then driver 2 shouldn't be to much of a jump, just a bit of new scenery.

There are also the driving games similar to those in the first driver, however I still find the cruising around (take a ride) much more enjoyable mainly due to the freedom of being able to do whatever I desire. You don't need to be a hardcore car junky to appreciate this game, you don't even need to have played the first driver, although it would be of some assistance. Driver 2 has embraced the GTA concept like nobody else and given it some very dazzling backdrops. If you think you can handle some fast paced action then driver 2 is waiting for you.

Bummer!746

Arend Hart from Mchigan says (27/Nov/2000):
One of the best games to come out on the PSone was Driver. Yeah, it had it's problems, but all in all, it rates as a classic. It's real-deal damage, exciting police chases and gravity-defying stunts were excellent enough to make up for the horrendous storyline, the lack of any street curvature, the terrible interpretation of American traffic patterns (a left hand turn from the right turn lane?) and the lack of variety in traffic vehicles (everyone in San Fransisco drives a Pinto?). Driver was a great game to play alone or with friends.

So when Reflections announced a new edition to Driver, the world was waiting with crossed fingers. Would it be as good as the original? Would the streets have curves? Would the yellow stripes be in the middle of the road, where they belong? Well, sad to say, even though a lot of the problems have been addressed, Driver 2 is somewhat of a bummer release.

Remember a year ago, when Sony kept putting off Gran Turismo 2, only to release it with a bunch of glitches because they were pressed to get it out before Christmas? Well looks like the same thing happened with Driver 2...although worse. Plagued with pop-up, clipping and slow framerates, these problems are detructive enough to distract from the gameplay and make for a disappointing experience. I mean, when a building pops up 15ft in front of you, it's not only distracting, but also quite startling.

There is some good, though. The cutscenes, a big thorn in the side for the developers of the original Driver, are definitely cooler, with some of the best face-work seen yet on the PSone. Also, you now can jump out of a completely damaged car and car-jack a fresh beauty (even if it's a schoolbus)...although controlling Tanner on foot is not the easiest thing to do. And yeah, there are curves in the roads now, although they look like they drop off into a deep crevasse 15ft in front of the car.

All in all, I think there is too much going on in this game. Maybe if the buildings weren't each a separate 3D polygon, or if each car didn't have to be programmed to be car-jackable (now there's a word...I'll have to get with Webster's to get that one patented!) this game might run a bit quicker and push some of that popup back into the distance where it won't detract from the game. But I don't expect a major recall or anything, so we'll just have to wait for a PS2 version, dodging the oncoming traffic which suddenly appears 15ft in front of your vehicle.

How Fun This Game Is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!38561

Prince from Edison says (24/Jan/2004):
This games is a great game because you can get out of the the car and the cops chase you.It has some junk in it but its ok.There are alot of cheats in this games like invisibility and select any level. You can sit in chairs and go in stores by using the cheats it is fun when you us the invisibility. And the levels are hard and tough.Thats when the game begins! This game is also good in chicago and Havana in the take a ride selction.Thats why i like this game and there is a reason why i hate i too because the graphis are so mad bad.You would probly hate the graphis too if you saw the game. And thats why i hate it.Would you like it was so bad?And i still like this games and i like driver a little bit.

I gave it an eight because it has some glitches38695

Evan from Prince Rupert B.C. Canada says (30/Jan/2004):
I like this game cuase i can just sit there for hours, but there needs some weapons! The multy player needs some work and whats up with everybody runing away from u? I think you should be able to go in buildings also. And i think u should be able to steal the planess in chicago and steal the boats in Havana.
One more thing, I think u should be able to use your turnim signles and braking lights so that all the traffic doesn't honk their horn all the time other wise its a good game! The multy player there should be people and a better veiw and some cops. and on the take a ride you should be able to steal the cop cars with out felony. and when the cops say pull over I pull over and the ram me! What are they, cops or terrorists? well later!

Fun, with *some* problems700

Neil Miller from Chicago, IL USA says (25/Nov/2000):
I thoroughly enjoyed the first Driver. Just about every mission. Driver 2 however, I find goes to one extreme or the other. Either the levels are as fun as the first game, or darn near impossible.

First my gripes: I found the level in Havana where Tanner is supposed to wreck 4 cars in an insanely short amount of time almost harder than the last mission in the first game, where he's attempting to save the President.

And *ultimately* frustrating is the ability of the car you're chasing (espically when it's heavily damaged, or the same model) to go faster than you do down the straightaways. That Havana level is an excellent example of this...one moment you're neck and neck, the next the target is shooting down the road...with a car that's a notch from being totaled.

OK. Now the good news:

I'm from Chicago, so I must say that the levels there represent a life-long dream to speed past slower traffic downtown. :) Although, I am kind of sad that they didn't include lower Wacker Drive. Many excellent car chases have been down there (Including the Blues Brothers). I've often wished to jump over the rising bridges over the Chicago River, just like in that move also. Thanks programmers. And for those of you who aren't in Chicago, they have Wrigley Field oriented the wrong direction.

The get-to levels are fun as are the get-aways. I haven't been to Rio yet, but Chicago and Denver are pretty fun cities in which to tool around.

Overall I gave the game a 7 because of the frustrating levels. They're not difficult to figure out, they're just difficult for the purpose of being difficult. Which hurts the overall game. There are graphic slowdowns and I do miss the ability to choose missions.

Christmas Money maker786

Frustrated from Yorkshire says (30/Nov/2000):
I was looking forward to this sequel since the Original was released. I must say I'm disappointed, it doesn't seem to be a finished product, rather more a game released in time for Christmas to gain sales figures.
The cities are much improved and the idea of being able to exit the car gives the game more depth. But I have played the Chicago section and now I am struggling my way through the Havana missions, but I must say some of the tail the bad guy missions are about as interesting as watching paint dry.
On the 'Find the Clue' mission I found that the slow down through the windy streets often makes the car uncontrollable, and just how do you complete this mission in the time limit. I am no whizz I admit, but I managed to complete the original Driver. After approx 15 attempts I have decided to look for a level jump, it is too frustrating to be enjoyable anymore.
It doesn't seem to have been fully tested for playability. I don't mind a challenge, but the missions are either dull or extremely hard. There doesn't seem to be much in-between.
Overall, the cities are great and the carjacking adds extra to the original but the games isn't as polished and sparkling as I feel it might have been had they released at a later date with further testing and enhancements.

A total let down807

A gamer from Stockton California says (1/Dec/2000):
I must say after completing the first Driver I couldnt wait for a sequal...well...I got one. What joke!! Whoever programmed the physics for this game must have been smoking something. Its like trying to drive on the moon! Case in point the Havana mission where you have to ram the amo truck with the silver escort car chasing you. Not only is that the fastest, best handling damn cargo truck Ive ever seen, but your car seems to have shocks made from Nerf. Dont see what I mean, play the level and try to follow the truck accross the park, hit on of those grassy mounds and watch your car fly ( in apparent slow motion ) while the truck takes off and the chase vehical sends you flying. Or make that first right but dont count on making the corner, you might be doing what seems like 30 mph but that wont keep your car from jumping 2 or 3 stories in the air when you hit the building. On the upside I like the cinimatics alot better in this game, its helps alot actually seeing the characters mouths move. Unfortunatly this does not excuse the frustration of watching a 3 ton delivery truck smoke a mid 80's luxery car on a straight stretch of 4 lane highway. The pedestrian vehicles appearing out of thin air dont help the fun factor any either.

Lazy players miss the point in this awesome sequel913

Luke from Sydney, Australia says (7/Dec/2000):
Numerous reviews on this page have complained about the difficulty levels of Driver 2, in particular the Havana mission which requires you to destroy four cars. These players miss the point of Driver and Driver 2. The aim of the game is to create a mood, an atmoshere of Seventies gas guzzler excess and free-from responsibility hard driving adventure. It's not about acurate physics as much as it is about acute atmospherics. The Havana mission in question needs to be attacked with style not frustrated glances at the fast diminishing time clock. Look at the map. Choose your plan of attack, look at where the target is headed and cut him off at the pass. Plan when you will ditch your wheels for a newer ride, one without black smoke pouring from the bonnet. Hijack a truck if it's handy, the damage it'll do will far outweigh the dents it'll take. Relax man, this game is cool. I loved the chance to cruise Havana and leap from one enourmous fifties metal beast to the next. Las Vegas I still getting used to. The Limo takes a licking and keeps on ticking and the ambulance makes a pleasant siren noise as you break all the available laws. I give this one nine out of ten. The graphics aren't eyepopping, to be sure, but it's when a game captures your imagination that it truely excells. That's why some fail and others soar. This one is a classic.

Has flaws but still ace!1161

A gamer says (20/Dec/2000):
Driver 2. Good or bad? Brilliant. If has a lot of faults but you can't help but have fun. I liked the first one but this definitely beat it. When I first played Driver 2 I was shocked buy the pop up buildings and that the graphics hadn't changed. But it was fun. It was very fun. It runs at a resonable speed and after a while I stopped thinking about the graphics and pop up. I was just enjoying it.

The gameplay is quite like Driver. But like Driver it is very clever. The skids and spins all add to the excitement. Once you are used to the handling of the cars you'll know what I mean.

The best new addition is the two player mode. It just pips Tanner's ability too get out of his car. There is a huge slow down on the two player mode but it is still great fun. Everyone knows that there is nothing like a bit of fun competition on Playstation games. And Driver 2 provides just that. Personally I like take a ride two player. Nothing beats two crap drivers let loose in a huge city all alone!!!

Onto the freedem. Tanner can now escape from his car and jump into anyone elses. How cool is that. Even cop cars. This brings new life to the game. It's not something to do alot but it is one extra option to use at your convinience.

Undercover mode rocks. The cut scenes are amazingly real. Their lips move and everything. The story line is good and the missions not impposible as in Driver 1. And just incase you loose the plot the kind people have made it so everytime you load up your game you get a short video reminder.

Add all these great features to the curved roads, river jumps, secret cars and 4 cities and out pops a big fat 10!

Not as good as I expected1482

Stephen from A place, in and state says (2/Jan/2001):
I like the game but it has it's flaws. One, it stutters at many points especially when in high speed chases. Two, you can't get out of the car in 2 player mode and u can't drive all over the city in 2 player mode. Now, what's up with that. That really puts down the lasting appeal for me which i give a 3. The graphics i give a 6 not good too much studdering. Gameplay i give a 8. Well, I don't like this game all that much for those reasons.

The True Review1782

Pat from Usa says (20/Jan/2001):
The highly anticapated Driver 2 in my opinion was a flop.
Were should I begin? Should I begin were...The game freeze's and stalls on you quite often? Or how about when your in a high speed chase and all of a sudden its like driving in slow motion?
We'll ok I have to admit, it wasn't all bad.
I did enjoy the fact of were you could get out of your vehicle, and steal another, and how good the missions are.
BUT the bad out wieghs the good...
For instance, the graphics are some of the worst graphics I have seen in a racing game, poor quality and coloring.
When driving at night, it looks like they just made it black and white and added a few colors...its terrible.
Or how about when you think your going on a full stright away and a building loads infront of your eyes 0.3 seconds before you hit it?
All in all this game is ridiculous, I bought it for 40.00 dollars like all of you guys, but it wasn't worth it.
To you guys who dont have it, if you aboslutely think you must have it, wait tell it becomes older and drops to $20.00 then thats about how much the game should have started out at.
I don't know if they ran out of time or money, but I was truly disappointed.
Thanks
