this game needs ... |
| Bob says (23/Jun/2001): |
this game needs to let you get guns and shoot people, like the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 3, on PS2. The graphics are good. They need more cars for you to choose from. And the citys need to have some bumper-to-bumper traffic. I've never been to Chicago before, but I know that in the middle of the night there are a lot of cars on the road.

Addictive and fun, override the flaws |
| Mark Leung from Sydney Australia says (5/Jul/2001): |
Driver 2 is very addictive. It will be one of the few video/computer games I will actually bother to finish, because of the storyline as well as the huge variety of fun missions. The only other two video games I have ever completed are Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid. Other games just get boring after a while.
The game is very hard, but thats what makes it challenging and addictive. I have to play most levels many many times to get through them, in particular the 4 car smash one, which took me a whole weekend to finish. Right now I am still playing the run the gunman off the road stage in Rio which I think is impossible. I've tried incessantly for days - but the gunmans car is just too strong, and its not easy to keep on his tail in the mountains. Any cheats anyone?
The graphics are rather dodgy. Buildings don't appear till you are near them, and in some instances cars don't appear until youre about to hit them (especially if you drive ahead of the car youre chasing). In stages like the one where you run the gunman off the road, when you fall off the mountain the graphics go all weird. Sometimes you can even be rammed through a solid wall and off the map by a police car!
And most annoying is the fact that the game gets jerky during some chases and occasionally freezes. I thought it was my CD but other people are having this problem too.
But this is still a very fun game, if not very frustrating when you can't finish the levels!

This is a very challanging and entertaining game!!! |
| Bryan from Fredericksburg, Va says (5/Jul/2001): |
I do not own this game yet...but it won't be long till I do. We borrowed it from a friend and couldn't stay away from it. I like the way that Tanner can change cars when it gets too banged up. Graphics are pretty good, but then again I don't expect great graphics out of a Playstation 1 game. Sound is very good, but when engines rev really high, it sounds kind of unrealistic. A car like the Dodge Challenger for intance had a monster engine and should sound more throaty...not like a Ford Fiesta!
Anyway, that's just a teensy observation....overall this game is great and I will be adding it to my game library. Thanks for a great game!!

whats the point |
| jaz from leicestershire England says (22/Jul/2002): |
The one player mode on this game is exiting and purposeful, it has a variety of levels and is a definate improvement on the first game driver 1. I find that the graphics could be alot more realistic and smoother but generaly it is good for a ps1 game. When i bought the game i was looking for a fun game with a good two player mode and a fantastic one player mode. When i got the game home me and my brother played the two player option first and we were desperatly disapointed, there was no variations on the cities and there was basicaly no point in playing it, we then had a go at the different games which were more suited to a six year old. after playing the two player game we decided to play on the one player option called take a ride we were not extatic but at the same time not diapointed, unlike the 2 player there were police chasing me when i broke the speed limit but the police seemed to have no intelligance and to my disapointment when the police caught up with me instead of arresting me or beating me up they kept smashing my car by ramming me, the only thought i had was how realistic this was, not! the only other fault this game has is that there are only a few cars to choose from which is very boring and after a while there is no suprise. If this game had more cars, more improved graphcs and a better and more breathtaking two player mode this game would easily be the best game around, and i would give it 10/10.

the graphics are not good |
| Randy from Rockford USA says (21/Dec/2002): |
I like the game and i dont. The reasoni like it is because you can steal cars and you can get trucks. I dont like it because it dont have good graphics for the type of game that it is. If you get a driver game i would prefer driver1. It has much better graphics but you cant steal cars.
|
It is cool |
| A gamer from Queensland, Australia says (14/Jun/2003): |
I have beatin this game and i just loved it. The graphics a cool, the music is radical and the cars are alright. The best car to drive i think is the sports car in Chiago. I think that the toughest mission was Find the Clue in Havana. The most eaisest mission would have to be Desroy the Yard in Vegas
|
Pretty good.... |
| Big Dave from Florida, U.S.A says (13/Jul/2003): |
I liked it overall, I like being able to get out and steal cars ans stuff. The only level I had a problem with is the chase the gunman level, but once I figured it out it was comically easy. All in all, a good game, good playability, but the graphics are a little choppy.
Sound is good, good variety of cars, and decent story-line. Not bad.
|
awsome game |
| mike from zanesville ohio usa says (6/Aug/2003): |
driver 2 is good because you can steal cars. I like it when you steal a car and the guys get mad. I thought the missions were better in driver 1. I thought it had alright graphics for playstation. On driver 2 the motors souded more realistic. On take a ride I wish there were more cars to select from before you get out on the street. I just wish you could get weapons. I thought the game was very good anyway.

| Hidden girl from Coventry,ENGLAND,Europe says (22/Mar/2004): |

It was fun but needs more work! |
| Hailey from Fort Wayne,USA says (15/Feb/2004): |
I thought this game was really fun but the graphics were not all that good. if i even made one tiny wrong thing I would get chased by the cops. there wasnt a turning signal either! And the cars behind you would honk their horn at you. I want this game to be better than grand theft auto. You should also be able to go in some buildings. You know what would be really cool? If you ould have a house. Or buy one on that game. I think it is great that they are coming out with a driver 3. I hope it is better than driver 2. Overall driver 2 was a really fun game, and i could sit there for hours playing it. So could my little brother. And I hope it comes out on playstation 1 at first so i dont have to wait a year or two to play it. That will get it some high ratings too!

Its good, but not that good |
| David Andrews from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia says (4/Feb/2004): |
I have played and finished Driver 2 and while it is good, it is not great. I liked the fact that you could get out of your car this time, which was handy. The missions were well done, if a little easy, and it was good just being able to cruise around.
The graphics sucked though, not straining the capabilities of the playstation at all. All the cars oversteered and, though it may lokk spectacular, sideways is the slowest way through any given corner. And the damage might as well have not been there. During one mission, i was flat out with a cop right behind me, sirens blaring, lights flashing. Another cop came off a side street and clipped my rear end. I couldnt correct the car, and i ended up attatched to a pole. I reversed about two feet before being rammed right back in again. This should have resulted in me having a light pole poking out my roof, but i reversed, drove off, took two corners and i had lost the cops. Hmmm. Maybe something like GTA or gran turismo would be more the way to go

this game is the best |
| A gamer from Brisbane says (29/Jul/2003): |
I love the graphics and it is really easy to get started. My cousin got the game so I decided to buy it because I enjoyed it. All my friends have bought it and they have a great time. The cops are really hard to get away from you as the player. Going over the sand jumps is fun and a challenge.

Driver 2 will drive you wild |
| GamerX from Paris,France says (27/Oct/2000): |
I recieved Driver 2 about a week ago , and its definitely one of those WOW games . The game play and graphics have improved a lot since the first driver . Also, the major problem that a lot of gamers had with the first release was the long loading time, Driver 2 loads real quick and smooth .
The graphics in the game are wonderful,I never experienced the slightest slow-up even when there were a multitude of cars onscreen crashing or during high speed , in-city chase episodes. While driving through Chicago, you sometime totally forget its a game, the surroundings are so real. The sound is as authentic and high quality as it comes , from the revved engines to the squeel of tires on rubble, the sound is top notch, almost forgot , man , the oldie soundtrack is awesome. The gameplay is like a dream come true , the controls are excellent , but you have to realize that these cars are not those sport toys but classic cadillacs and stuff ,one mistake on a turn and your ride's gonna slide straight to hell , so you have to find your pattern there and once you do, its smooth sailing all the way. The game's over all atmosphere is extremely noi`rish , very 50's gangster kinda mood, which is heightened by the tough guy dialogues. Some situations are really tense like when you have to escape from cane's compound in a timed event and catch a bridge just before it elevates.
I highly recommend Driver 2 to racing game enthusiasts, and even to non racing fans for its sheer entertainment value.

Great game |
| A gamer from Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA says (12/Feb/2002): |
I think that this game is great! The graphics are very good; there is only two things wrong. In high speed chases, all of a sudden, the gameplay stops, then starts, then stops again, then starts again. This goes on for an average of usually 5-10 seconds. Also, there is one more thing. Sometimes, all of a sudden, your car falls through the road and into nothingness. Also, there are some spots that if drive into outline bushes or walls (separates road from your car falling off the screen)hard enough, your car goes through and falls off of the screen. If you liked Driver 1, I guarantee that you will like this game. It has its similarities with Driver 1, but in Driver 2, you can get out of your car and into another and your felony bar and damage bar go all the way down(obviously, since you get into another car and the Police don't know that it's you who just got into a chase with them). What I really like is that the bridges in Chicago go up and down. If you time it perfectly, when a cop is chasing you, you can go up the already steep drawbridge(but not so steep that you can't go up) and juuuust make it over, but the cop doesn't have enough speed or momentum to make it across and he either plunges into the big empty space below the drawbridge or rolls right back dow the bridge, letting you get away. This has happened to me a few times. One particular time, at least six cops were chasing me(I just broke through a roadblock) and I barely made it across the bridge because the back of my car hit the end of the bridge, but I managed to push myself up. Two of the cops fell into "the big empty space" and the other four just rolled down the other side. I found this very relieving because I had been playing the "Take A Ride" part of the game for at least 2 hours and my car was about one small tap from being wrecked, but I just went down the other side of the bridge slowly, away from the cops' range (very carefully, so I didn't attract any more cops' attention)and as soon as I got out of their range, I stole another car and played for at least another hor and a half. If you are reading this review to see if you would like to buy Driver 2, it is a great game, and if you buy it, it will provide you with months of car-stealing, bone-cracking hits,heart-stopping action. If you do enjoy this game and think that everthing I wrote is true, write me at cmkumor< remove me > at home.com

What the hell? |
| Damian from Brantford,Ontario,Canada says (14/Feb/2003): |
Allthough I was`nt that dissapointed in this game i was however misstified at the fact of how horrible the graphics are i mean come on 2d supermario was 100% better than this garbage the cut seens are done beautifully however and the plot just gets thicker and thicker it would have been nice to figure out who the hell the gunman was I meen it takes like all of your patients just to beat that level just to find out that you get stiffed and you don`t get to see who the gunman was at all the hardest level in this game is when you steal Vasquez`s ammo trucks allthough most you people have`nt even beaten this game yet don`t give up i thought that level was the last one seriously but it was`nt i had a fit when i beat that damb level as for the game it self i give it seven because i was on the edge of my seat the whole time and i could`nt believe how great it was to finaly play a game where you get to steal cars in 3D and not birds eye krap when you first start this game you are really thinking it`s going to be a flop like the first driver but then you are completley surprised buy what happens after the first 2 levels great game really great game and i would recomend it to any car stealing maniac who honks there horn to much.

Extremely Hard!!! |
| Chris from Wisconsin, USA says (17/Jul/2003): |
I found Driver 2, well, hard. It took me 2 days just to beat the first 5 levels. The bad graphics and control also contributed to that difficulty. A bunch of times I was playing it and had to make a tight turn or else i would lose and the game slowed down!! A missed the turn, wrecked my vehicle, and almost broke my controller from anger. But it isn't all bad. Some of the driving games are acctually fun, for example "Cops and Robbers" is really fun with a friend. I am writing this review and I haven't even gotten on the second disc. Only buy this game if you have patience, and even then, if you have a extremely calm temper.

Rubbish |
| Chris Powell from England says (20/Nov/2003): |
Now then, this game not only has terrible graphics, but it is pathetic in many other ways for example... When there is a police car nearby, you have to slightly go on to the sidewalk, go over 2mph or have another car try to change lanes or park with you in the way and you will be in pursuit the copps just ram into you several times. It's like a radio control car because there is no driver. Secondly you CAN get out of your car which is pretty extreme but what is the point? you only do that to get another car without a Felony or Damage. you dont have a lot to choose from either.
Graphics - 1
Too unrealistic and glitchy
Sound - 2
Crappy music, Police sirens all the time and unrealistic cars
Longivity - 2
Finished it in a week
Gameplay - 2 all of the above x2
