brilliant41412

A gamer from scunthorpe says (22/Jun/2004):
vanashing point is a brilliant game. ive almost completed it i found it very easy. the grafics are not that good and could be done better but apart from that it is good from all the other racing games ive played this is byfar the most excellent game to date. the sound could be better eg put your own music on the game it is very fun to play and when you start playing you cant stop it is very good value for money i bought it after renting it and playing it at my mates. i got it of the web and found it very easy to order and cheap to buy.the original copy is better than a copied version because if it is copied the grafics and sound arnt very good the original is better sound and grafics. the life span is good ive had it for one year and found no problems with it yet. there is very little cheats but i found the walkthrough very helpful

not bad...6528

A gamer from Oconomowoc, WI says (22/Mar/2002):
I rented the game because it looks good, and I kinda wanted to play it. I do think it is a great game, but the sunday drivers just annoy me. I don't like how the cars are very loose, they seem looser then in Colin McRae Rally 2. That suprised me, seeing as these cars are on road, and in CMR2, your racing in dirk, gravel, mud, and snow.

tackybut real fun5121

sifu from dunedin new zealand says (4/Jan/2002):
how you would normaly get out of a fish tail make the fish tail worse reverse is time consuming(if you work out how to find it)
if you could get outher cars slightly eazyer it would be better
I mean a 4 whell drive on the first go whats that all about
the outher car that you get is hard to handle so it takes a good
6 pack of bear to keep you going
come on playstation make better games gt1 was better than gt2 and 3 Gt3 handdles worse than gt1 that handles better than vanishing point that clames to be the best colomacray 2 is good car game still a darn fun game

One of the Underrated PS1 Gems5081

Edward Virtually from Oregon, USA says (2/Jan/2002):
Vanishing Point has the best racing engine on the PS1. It features NO POP-UP (even GT2 does not provide this), beautiful animated scenery (planes flying, windmills turning, etc.), and a great selection of cars ranging from current exotic sports cars to past novelty vehicles (VW microbus). It also has a very deep stunt driving mode. It also features very realistic handling and crash physics, which means that, yes, keeping a stock Ford Mustang on a twisting road at 90MPH is not easy -- but it can be done. I have finished 2nd in the Gold tournament with the even worse handling Ford XLT pickup truck. A friend who I introduced to the game went from finishing 44th to 11th in three plays. This game supports dual analog and is best played that way (control configuration "H" -- don't waste time on the others). As others have mentioned, this game is not generous in that you have to win with the more boring/hard cars/races/stunts to unlock the cooler ones. On the whole, this is a great racing game if you want a challenge and it contains enough tracks/cars/stunts/etc. to keep the dedicated player entertained for a long time. Remember, control config H! :-)

vanishing point sucks4806

shithole from denver, UsA says (18/Dec/2001):
I bought this game immeadiatly after I saw a preview of the game on a free demo disk I had recieved from purchasing the great, PlayStation 1. I had brought it home hoping it would be the best game ever. WELL IT SUCKED ON ICE DAMNIT!!! ALL OF THE GOOD GRAPHICS WERE ONLY ON THE DAMN INTRODUCTION VIDEO!!! I COULDIN'T GET THE SWING OF THIS THING THAT DARES TO CALL ITSELF A RACING GAME, or even just a damn game for that matter. THE GRAPHICS SUCKED, THE SUNDAY DRIVERS ON THE enclosed track, ALL OF THE CHEATS ON THE INTERNET, if your lucky enough to even find some, ARE ALL IN GAMESHARK CODES, YOU CAN'T EVEN PRACTICE WITH ANY OF THE GOOD CARS, YOU ONLY RACE TO TRY AND GET A GOOD TIME, NOT A GOOD PLACE, AND IT IS ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE WORST GAMES I HAVE EVER, EVER PLAYED!!!

it has pretty tight graphics but whats up with the sunday drivers?4055

Blind from cali,usa says (15/Oct/2001):
this is by far the best racing game that has come out besides gran turismo. I can't figure out how to get the secret cars yet so if anyone has, post it. I don't like the "sunday drivers" but it helps you control your speed and driving. the graphics are great but the cars aren't. the sound is ok and the fun factor would be rated higher if you raced against other cars and not time

Racing Game of the Ages3502

Matt Boyd from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada says (16/Aug/2001):
I've played alot of racing games and vanishing point makes up for what every racing game of the past didn't have. The graphics are as good as you could of hoped for in a racing game. The number of cars and tracks to unlock will keep you playing for weeks. The handling of the cars is my only problem, its to loose. But after a few races you get used to it and it doesn't affect the game. The sound to the game was average but wasn't needed anyway. I would recamend this game to anybody who likes good games, play it once you will probably want to buy it.

Well... It's playable.2424

A gamer from Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. says (1/May/2001):
I found VP very nice to watch, however the physics aren't quite as accurate as GT2. I also found it very annoying to find a vehicle in front of me as I came out of the last turn in the last heat of the first series. I understamd that there are idiots out there on the road, but the cars in VP don't respond accurately enough to make it thoroughly enjoyable. The stunt driving portion of the game is fun and gives you a chance to drive cars in unorthodox ways ( Would you intentionally attempt a barrel roll in a 1966 Shelby Cobra?), but it doesn't make up for the poor racing section of the game. If you like pretty backgrounds and arcade handling, buy this and enjoy; If you want accurate physics and adrenaline pumping racing, buy Gran Turismo 2 and experience the cars the way they should be.

Best Racing Game EVER!!!!!1723

Jan-Michael Franio from Fort Wayne, IN USA says (16/Jan/2001):
Ok, I got vanishing point just because I'm a racing game FREAK! I was a big fan of Test Drive, and thought Sega GT was overall the best racing game availible. Well, I was wrong. Vanishing Point shows off the realism of virtual driving. At first I got frustrated and thought the game was stupid, because the cars are so hard to keep from fishtailing and hitting walls. Then I figured out that I'm not racing each track to get ahead of the cars for first place, but I'm racing against a clock that determines my placement. After forcing myself to keep playing the game because the graphics looked good, and I wanted to drive the Ford Focus (cause thats what car I own), I noticed myself adapting to the controls, and maintaining to keep the car on the track. Every time you beat a track a new car, or option is unlocked. You start out with a ford explorer, and a ford mustang. Beating different tracks in Tournament mode unlocks one of 80 features which includes 32 vehicles,13 tracks, options and movies. All 32 cars are real name vehicles, with realistic specifications. The soundtrack in the game fits perfectly, the ambient techno-trance beats will get your head bobbin', and the game effects are very realistic.

Pros:

Game has good replay value, Tournament mode, online play, versus mode, stunt mode, and time trial.

Astonishing graphics that recreate the cars on the screen as they would look like and handle in real life.

Stunt Mode is lots of fun, take a lotus, and jump a hill going 120mph to see how far you can land. Do a barrel roll with a Ford Focus.

Cons:

Those stupid sunday drivers in the game that like to hit their brakes when you are right behind them-- (what are those people doing on an enclosed track anyway??)

Racing against a clock, not for real-time position

Easy oversteering, kind of like Crusin' USA, but worse, takes a lot to get used to

Overall this game gets a 10 from me, if you like racing games, this is like no other. Dispite the cons I listed, they are not as bad as they seem. This is defininately the best racing game ever created nevertheless.
