This Kicks FIFA's Ass from london to Mars!! |
| Aaron Panesar from London, England says (15/Apr/2004): |
The PS1 has come up with pure gold when coming up with this game. Konami have developed this game and they have done a great job. ISS 2 is 10x more realistic (from shooting to goal celebrations), the graphics are better, game play is more exciting and every aspect including training is better. FIFA is too simple. Everyone is the same height, more power doesn't mean that the shot on goal is less accurate and their goal celebrations are crap. The idea of having clubs for the master league in an INTERNATIONAL game is a If you want a basic, unadventuraous game, buy FIFA, if you want realism, go for ISS!!

Wery good, |
| ALION from Indianapolis, Indiana ,USA says (6/Jun/2004): |
This is one of the games that I can say soccer. You feel it in. If you want to play kid game play FIFA, it should be fun too, but if you want to play soccer play this, make your own team see the realistic part of soccer , with it's realities. But you have to take it serius. I think this is the game for only the fans of soccer and who realy likes it. Grafphics are not perfect but if you want to see good graphic, go wach a soccer mach on tv. If you say you are in, play this and feel it.

simply superb |
| Caolan Brady from Belfast,Ireland says (5/Dec/2002): |
ISS pro evolution is a not just the best computer/football game ever made it is a way of life. It has a special place in hearts and minds of millions. I myself have played the ISS genre of football game for roughly 4 years and in that time I think I have to timed ISS 3 times. (which I am so sorry for) I am a student in belfast and I personally think there should be a degree or better still a school of ISS.
|
Not perfect but still the best |
| Paul Church from Brighton,England says (11/May/2003): |
There are two types of person in this world, Pro Evolution 2 fans and Fifa 2003 fans. I have recently been playing Fifa since my friend believes that nothing can compare to it in terms of playability, and while i think the graphics are quite impressive it is clear that the those fine people at konami are doing the best job. It is nowhere near perfect (player/club names, dodgy challenges) but Pro Evolution is the only game which can provide such nail biting games, especially when playing against friends. I think we should cut konami some slack and while they're busy slaving away trying to make a game we won't find anything to moan about, get your mates round for some pizza and beer and stick on Pro Evolution 2.
|
This is the best game I have ever played !!! |
| Iaku from Attard, Malta says (15/Aug/2003): |
I am a great fan of football and when I heard that the Iss was made in I was one of the first people to buy it. It has lots of strategies different. It has many teams, it has good graphics and good passes. The Fifa is anything near the Iss.
|
The best footy game on the ps2 or not |
| sam gurung from England, london says (17/Nov/2002): |
I have played this game millions of times and have tried out every good team there is. The controles are excellent commentry a little boring. The game has its good bits and bat bit, for example the team are great but wouldnt the best creators ever "Konami" would spell there names right instead of Roberolarcos change it into Roberto carlos. Over than that the graphics of the players are the best. The croud still looks like cardboard cutouts (like every footy game) Pro evolution soccer 2 is out now and they cant spell there names right. oh well lets hope that fifa 2003 is better or can pro evolution bring out something better.
overall 8/10

Great Game - The Best Football Sim On The Market |
| MikeYee.co.uk from Wirral, UK says (29/May/2003): |
Before I decided to write a review I looked at quite a few that people had written and most of the flaws I had to laugh at.
Firstly, the 1-2 function has not disappeared - if you can't be bothered to read the booklet then you won't know how to do it! It's on page 9 of the instruction booklet! Fair enough, Konami have changed how it is carried out but it is still there. And you can also find out the various moves a player can do by using the new 'Tutorial' training option.
And the reason why Konami can't have all the football teams like Fifa can is in the title. Fifa has the official FIFA licence and therefore can use all the names, teams, kits, stadiums as they have the official rights. Pro Evolution 2 only has a FIFPro licence which limits them to a few countries - hence there are no Dutch players names and Arsenal are 'London'. But these consmetic problems can be changed by simply renaming the teams/players. And Konami have decided to have a selection of Master (or Champions) League teams you can play with. I know supporters of the lower teams are a little disappointed but I'd rather have very detailed World Class European teams.
Konami's attention to detail on every player is fantastic. You can tell who each player is and they have different playing styles - unlike Fifa. Beckhams movement and kicking technique are just an example. In Fifa they have made a better effort with the looks of the individual players but they all run and play the same! Each team is like playing with 11 ryan gigg's with different faces! Fair enough - some players are over/underated, but you cannot expect Konami to get EVERY single player spot on. You can change their appearence and their skill levels if it really bothers you.
And people who complain about the gameplay are probably not very good at it - and constantly hold down R1 and X! The through ball can't be just used whenever, you have to pick the right moment to do it which is part of the challenge. I'm sure those complaining about how some features are bad and don't seem to work very well (such as the shooting, passing, etc.) watch a lot of football but don't/can't play football themselves!
Overall, of course there are flaws, no game is perfect - but there are soooo many great aspects to this game. This is simply the BEST Football Sim out there. Each version of this GAME have been better than the last and I'm sure Konami will do us proud in Pro Evolution 3 when it's out this Xmas. Even Fifa 2003 have copied the Pro Evolution series by making R1 run, having power bars etc. But there is only ONE Soccer Sim and Pro Evolution 2 is it. Until the 3rd one of course ;)

The best football game there is, no two ways about it. |
| Ads from Glasgow says (30/Jun/2003): |
This game really is the best football game you can buy it has the best gameplay because it is simply the most realistic (except of course for the parts where you pass to someone and they just stand completely still!) the statistics the players are based on is much better system than fifa's. A lot of people have said how easy it is to score in pro evolution 2 but did you notice that in fifa 2001 and 2002 all you had to do to score was run down the wing cross it to someone in the centre and 10 times out of ten you score an overhead kick which is just about the most ridiculous and unrealistic aspect of football because you get people like Heskey doing something that not only is he incapable of but also scoring, another thing he's incapable of! Also the reason there are little club teams is because the game stemns from the ISS series INTERNATIONAL superstar soccer this game was always meant to have an emphasis on international teams so the fact there is an amazing master league mode is a fantastic bonus. Apart from the aforementioned flaw about standing still evrything else is realistic the goalkeepers are different in skill level unlike fifa where every keeper is a carbon copy of each other and it pays attention to detail with shooting that if a player is under pressure from a defender he'll probably miss likewise if u overpower a shot. ofcourse in fifa when you full power the bar you dont miss you just smack it into the net faster despite who the keeper is. Thus this game is much better than fifa games in all possible aspects (and i'm including graphics in that by the way) and is the best football game you can buy.

The greatest footy game ever?! |
| adam sparrowe from Gillingham,England says (28/Feb/2002): |
Where do I start? What a great game. Even a few liscenced names now, but who cares? This game is all about game play, the graphics are so smooth and it all seems like your there yourself. Hard mode is hard (unlike that other footy game) and you really have to learn all the tricks of the trade. However the commentary is a little lacking but who cares when you have smooth gameplay, graphics, the whole damn show. What a brill game. Can Pro Evolution Soccer better it? Probably. But who cares? Its ISS!!!
|
Quite simply the best sports game ever made! |
| Neil Davies from Cardiff says (24/Apr/2002): |
ISS Pro Evolution 2 is another incredibly addictive footie game in the Konami series. With so many great aspects to it, it stands out above FIFA etc.like Ryan Giggs in a Wales v.Armenia match. Everyone is aware by now of the sultry gameplay and the flawless graphics. The difficulty settings are just right and the small alterations to game speed and player editing will make the game have a long and happy life with gamers.
Commentary is still poor, there should be more specific comments to specific shots and tackles etc. If this is achieved, these small touches add to the realism and simulation of the game. The crowds should chant recognisable songs so we can sing along and should be specific to teams (Brazil-samba, England-"3 Lions etc!).
The player editor is a great feature as you can recreate the World Cup 2002 with the real England squad! Basically, what i'm tying to say is that this is a MUST BUY game, unless of course you own the PS2 version (how can they make this better.....)

If it aint broken don't fix it. |
| David Cashman from Cork,Ireland says (1/Nov/2002): |
I'm a firm believer in keeping a winning formula and in parts of this game Konami have abandoned this concept. y friend and I played pro evo. every day for the past year and we asked ourselves how could they improve the masterpiece. Well in making the game totally realistic by highlighting certain players strengths and weaknesses and by doing this making them individuals. This part of the game is incredible. However the player animation shuld have stayed the same as the last game because they look like buig bodied necless freaks in this game. Why didntthey just keep the same club names as before the new ones are just absurd and whats with the dutch players? Why didn't they just mix up the letters in their names instead of giving them numbers. also Peter Brackley is a great commentator so if your paying him to talk so just let him do that instead of giving him stupid phrases its like listening to chris james again. In conclusion keep the good points from the old game you don't have to change everything to have a good sequel.

Easy on the eye..not on the brain |
| Nasar Niaz from United Kingdom, London says (7/Nov/2002): |
Pro Evo 2 is good. Lets not mess around. Looks great, plays well and is lots of fun. Its probably the nearest thing you will get to Virtual Striker 3 at the arcades. The training modes are excellent and player detail is outstanding. But why only 7/10? Well, Pro 1 is and was a master piece in football playability. Complex and felxible. Pro 2 has made the game more fun but ultimately easier. More freedom to dribble, shooting is simpler and the speed of the game defies logic. I am waiting for Pro 3 because if it can bridge the gap between the first two games then we will have a the best football game ever!!!

ISS Pro Evo 2 Scores! I tell a lie they've missed |
| Warthy from Gloucestershire says (18/Dec/2002): |
Well i'll start with it's worth forking out 20 quid for this as a lot of the really annoying problems with the previous game have been sorted. For example: players now make half decent diagonal runs instead of looking like a chicken! Also the step-over fakes are more effective which improves build up play no end. This however has been sacrificed by rediculous player names and wot on earth is that oranges 031 all about or is it 011 or 018, WHO KNOWS? Also i happened to notice that the first crunching tackle of every game resulting in a yellow card happens to injure the opposing player. Whether this is a good thing is not for me to decide but it can get damn annoying if it's your player that gets injured. Some how i don't think this adds realism to the game. TWO more things, 1:WHERE'S THE GALLERY MODE GONE? it's not a vital thing but at least you know what you've completed and 2: It's far to easy to score with edgar davids (oranges 12035662, i really don't know) from around the centre circle!!! Ending on a high note however, it's still the best game out there and always will be in my opinion. It's either this game or rediculous 50 yard runs resulting in a rediculously accurate 30 yard screamer from any player on the pitch, yes, you've guest it.......FIFA RUBBISH

Great Game but could have done more with this release.. |
| A gamer from Wellington, New Zealand says (18/Mar/2003): |
Pro Evolution II - As soon as I heard that they were going to release this - I was jumping for joy because the original difficult at first to master cause I was a FIFA fan ( no booing please )was a great game but lacked the qulaity finish of an EA Sports game. Now that I have II - I am please with the purchase but still annoyed that the teams and music and commentry are still basically well below parr..
|
good......but could be so much better! |
| Mark Wilson from Adelaide, Australia says (22/Mar/2003): |
ISS is by far the best football game there is, PE2 is good but what happened to the 1-2 function? it has disappeared from the game also the through ball function never seems to work, everytime you use it the opposition seem to intercept. These are two functions that should have been left as they were as they were functions that got used a lot in a game, now i dont bother using them at all, the slide tackle should also have been left as it was, now you will give away a freekick whether you win the ball fairly or not! The commentry is also crap as are the graphics(compared to fifa2003) but the game still beats fifa for gameplay alone! Lets hope that the next version irons out these glitches, according to Konami's website this game is only35% of the finished article that they crave, i cant wait to get a hold of that finished article! I have a disc from the UK that enables all the correct players names and also gives all the current Premiership clubs, the master league expands to 3 divisions to accomodate the extra teams.
|
a total master piece but theres sooo much room for improvement |
| Jaide Marlow from England, London says (2/May/2003): |
pro evo 2 is clearly the best footie game to hit the market, but its NOT perfect, firstly the japs have given us a second rate game compared to there own(winning 11 6)i say that because once u play it, it does have the realism of FIFA and the gameplay of pro evo.Theres the real kit sponsers, there far range shooting and all gameplay mistakes of pro evo are correct to perfection. The next big issue is why theres such a lack of club teams in the game, if FIFA can fit all teams in the game why is it sohard for pro evo to do it.How do u think fans of small teams like charlton and birmingham feel when they see there teams not on the game, personally iam a spurs fan and there a MASSIVE club why on earth are they not on the game? iam sure all the pro evo lovers would love to see these improvements made but the question is if they dont make these improvements will FIFA beat them in the gameplay department on its next release and steal the virtual football crown?
|
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ALL ABOUT? |
| Hankyil from London, Great Britain says (3/May/2003): |
I am a great footy fan and I have enjoyed football games from Italia 90' on the Sega Megadrive to Fifa 00' on the Plystation but it has come to my attention that this game doesn't quite fit the bill. yes it has brilliant gameplay but for a game of such a great mixture of gameplay makes to back up its potential i am not overly impressed. The clud teams selection are crud, they have something in the region of 19-25 club teams only!! There are thousands of club teams in the world so whats going on there? Also because some of the makers of the game I found out are Chealsea fans they have been biost by shoving Chealsea FC in the game and therefore also making Chealsea (no offence to Chealsea fans) rated better than they actually are. Also the game is sad because there is something you can do to score everytime, get the ball to the right wing by passing, then run up with winger (pass again to another winger if that option is open to avoid completely getting tackeld)run to the corner flag, go in to the 6-yard box and shoot so only half the shot power bar is displayed, and whats this GOAL! what a suprise, i beat Brazil with Sweden on Hard 4-2 doing it this way I mean what the hell? The crowd grafix are terrible, ok i admit i will let them get away with that as all footy game have terrible crown graphics but im sure they could have at least tried to have done better. If the opposing team passes the ball and the computer is controlling the player nearest andd has the perfect chance to run forward an intercept the ball what does the computer do?? back off the player and let the pass get through. And another thing, if you pass the ball to another player on your team and all the player has to do is just make a little run to get the ball the player just stands there and evntually the computer gets the ball, GRR! Perhaps i have justified this game a little hardly, it is a great game its true but the fact is i am rating it on the grounds of the makers of the game and what they could have been able to achieve with what they had to play woth, i give the avtual game rating 7/10, if the game was made by FIFA i would give it 10/10 , the would be beyond beleif if FIFA made the game.
|
Much better than Fifa! |
| Jay from Maidstone, England says (26/May/2003): |
I've only had a playstation 2 4 a short while, but i knw a gr8 game when i c 1. PE2 is much better than FIFA 03. Although FIFA has ruled the football games over the past 8-9 yrs, PE2 has pretty much elicipsed it. Gr8 game play, superb graphics, better commentary (Motty is a twat, long live brooking) and with the added option of creating a team full of former players (Pele, Maradona, etc) Pro Evolution is miles ahead.
|
room for improvement for the 3rd, but a great game with fantastic gameplay ability. |
| ian from london england says (18/Aug/2003): |
for years i have owned and adored every fifa game, but when i came across fifa2003 i was bitterly disappointed with the gameplay, i then found pro evolution soccer 2. PES2 does not have the best graphics, does not have a vast team selection, or the ability to trade players out of the master league mode. however, pro evolution 2 is a game for football fans, those who like playability. fifa gets tiresome and is easily mastered. but pro evolution poses a challenge each time. with realistic player movements, konami have actually captured players individual styles of play, whereas in fifa, all players play identical in movement and style of play. for playing against friends, pro evolution is the best because the games are always close, fifa is far too easy to score in. PES2 is fantastic however, does have major room for improvement, so im sure all us PES fans will be eagerly awaiting the 3rd game and hoping konami have improved on their few weaker points, -> more teams, more players, and ability to trade out of the master league.
