WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ALL ABOUT? |
| Hankyil from London, Great Britain says (3/May/2003): |
I am a great footy fan and I have enjoyed football games from Italia 90' on the Sega Megadrive to Fifa 00' on the Plystation but it has come to my attention that this game doesn't quite fit the bill. yes it has brilliant gameplay but for a game of such a great mixture of gameplay makes to back up its potential i am not overly impressed. The clud teams selection are crud, they have something in the region of 19-25 club teams only!! There are thousands of club teams in the world so whats going on there? Also because some of the makers of the game I found out are Chealsea fans they have been biost by shoving Chealsea FC in the game and therefore also making Chealsea (no offence to Chealsea fans) rated better than they actually are. Also the game is sad because there is something you can do to score everytime, get the ball to the right wing by passing, then run up with winger (pass again to another winger if that option is open to avoid completely getting tackeld)run to the corner flag, go in to the 6-yard box and shoot so only half the shot power bar is displayed, and whats this GOAL! what a suprise, i beat Brazil with Sweden on Hard 4-2 doing it this way I mean what the hell? The crowd grafix are terrible, ok i admit i will let them get away with that as all footy game have terrible crown graphics but im sure they could have at least tried to have done better. If the opposing team passes the ball and the computer is controlling the player nearest andd has the perfect chance to run forward an intercept the ball what does the computer do?? back off the player and let the pass get through. And another thing, if you pass the ball to another player on your team and all the player has to do is just make a little run to get the ball the player just stands there and evntually the computer gets the ball, GRR! Perhaps i have justified this game a little hardly, it is a great game its true but the fact is i am rating it on the grounds of the makers of the game and what they could have been able to achieve with what they had to play woth, i give the avtual game rating 7/10, if the game was made by FIFA i would give it 10/10 , the would be beyond beleif if FIFA made the game.

| Vidyut Rao from London, England says (2/May/2003): |
This is the best game that has yet to grace playstation football addicts. The sheer reality of the game play is amazing, several flaws exist but I wouldnt complain, its about the only game around, that is so challenging. The flaws are only minor and I guess its due to players not wanting be mentioned on the game,I guess each player is paid a certian amount for being on the game. Maybe konami doesnt think that is really something that is worth investing in. Gameplay will improve I am sure eventually it will be virtually like being there. Every year it seems to get better. Well done Konami and I just hope that games in the future are improved.

a total master piece but theres sooo much room for improvement |
| Jaide Marlow from England, London says (2/May/2003): |
pro evo 2 is clearly the best footie game to hit the market, but its NOT perfect, firstly the japs have given us a second rate game compared to there own(winning 11 6)i say that because once u play it, it does have the realism of FIFA and the gameplay of pro evo.Theres the real kit sponsers, there far range shooting and all gameplay mistakes of pro evo are correct to perfection. The next big issue is why theres such a lack of club teams in the game, if FIFA can fit all teams in the game why is it sohard for pro evo to do it.How do u think fans of small teams like charlton and birmingham feel when they see there teams not on the game, personally iam a spurs fan and there a MASSIVE club why on earth are they not on the game? iam sure all the pro evo lovers would love to see these improvements made but the question is if they dont make these improvements will FIFA beat them in the gameplay department on its next release and steal the virtual football crown?

things that would make the game better |
| TREV COLIN JAMES GRAHAM from DUBLIN IRELAND says (19/Apr/2003): |
ISS pro evolution 2 is the best footy game on the market but theres plenty of things konami could do to make it much better. i was very unhappy with the dutch team's players. i love the reality of games so plyers called oranges 002 relly bugged me. i eventually got a disc which corrected all these errors but i shouldnt have to do that...look at fifa, its so realistic but the gameplay is nothing compared to iss. i wish iss could combine the reality of fifa & the gameplay of pro evolution. players jerseys getting mucked up during rainy fixtures would be amazing!! i think there should be way more accesories when your' creating a player. more football boots & hairstyles would be amazing also. i love the create a plyer option..its one of the reasons why this game is head & shoulders above the rest!!

One Hell Of An Ace Game |
| homer from Old Colwyn says (11/Apr/2003): |
fabulous game with superb graphics but with a few probs inc. the players not running to the ball and when you win a perfect slide tackle you get a card the commentary is very bad but the gameplay is amazing, buy this one and you won't regret it is excellent.
|
We all know its good points, but lets look at what needs CHANGING! BADLY! |
| A gamer from Nottingham, England. says (9/Apr/2003): |
1) You cannot DRIVE the ball! The result is that loose balls (from corners etc) that come out to the holding midfield player can only be hit with the instep and as a result you must sacrifice either power or accuracy.
2)Similarly you cannot hit a shot with full power and NO HEIGHT unless you want to use CIRCLE. Same applies for free kicks.
3)Their ideas of fair tackles vary hugely from FIFA's or the FA. This game should be more CONTACT.
4)Commentary, obviously, laughable. Just because he missed, Trevor, it doesn't make you a liar.
5)A lack of 'skill'. You cannot nearly do everything that you could in real life. It isn't a big ask for them to include a few extra moves after all they've done.
6)As someone mentioned the habit players have of backing off, or waiting for the ball. Frustrating.
7)Players are too poorly balanced.Being muscled off the ball WOULD NOT result in you being incapacitated for the next 5 seconds!!!
8)Injuries can only be sustained through a SLIDE TACKLE! WHY?? In actuality most are sustained through over-stretching or just running.

Why do the players Stop? |
| Am. from Hornchurch says (1/Apr/2003): |
This is one great game. My mates come over evry sunday, and every time the missus is out shopping for a few games. One thing that does annoy me greatly is the fact that when th ball is near your player, they sometimes either stop or run away from the ball, it winds me up sometimes. Also sometimes when you make a pass the player stands and waits for the ball??? As if Owen, ronaldo and co. would ever wait for a pass to come to them! i think that they need to make reactions quicker...if they get that sorted this will be 'the' game.
|
good......but could be so much better! |
| Mark Wilson from Adelaide, Australia says (22/Mar/2003): |
ISS is by far the best football game there is, PE2 is good but what happened to the 1-2 function? it has disappeared from the game also the through ball function never seems to work, everytime you use it the opposition seem to intercept. These are two functions that should have been left as they were as they were functions that got used a lot in a game, now i dont bother using them at all, the slide tackle should also have been left as it was, now you will give away a freekick whether you win the ball fairly or not! The commentry is also crap as are the graphics(compared to fifa2003) but the game still beats fifa for gameplay alone! Lets hope that the next version irons out these glitches, according to Konami's website this game is only35% of the finished article that they crave, i cant wait to get a hold of that finished article! I have a disc from the UK that enables all the correct players names and also gives all the current Premiership clubs, the master league expands to 3 divisions to accomodate the extra teams.

Great Game but could have done more with this release.. |
| A gamer from Wellington, New Zealand says (18/Mar/2003): |
Pro Evolution II - As soon as I heard that they were going to release this - I was jumping for joy because the original difficult at first to master cause I was a FIFA fan ( no booing please )was a great game but lacked the qulaity finish of an EA Sports game. Now that I have II - I am please with the purchase but still annoyed that the teams and music and commentry are still basically well below parr..

It Was ALMOST A Great Game That Has Everything |
| Steve-A-Roonie from Cardiff !!! says (28/Jan/2003): |
Let me begin by saying that i absolutely love this game..despite its little glitches because simply there is nothing out there that comes close to it. A long time admirer of the ISS series and then have made the natural progression to the latest franchise. I will try to put something on this board which i havent read so far. To the game itself. It has made advancements on the first game. When tackled i no longer feel the frustration of watching my player seemingly paralysed on the screen. Although in this new incarnation i have noticed that there is a similar problem when the player is thrown sideways off the ball (very annoying) but all part and parcel of the game, but it would be nice to see it rectified fully for PES3 i think. The commentary, well what can anyone say about this which hasnt been said already ? We all know it, its just downright poor. Thinking back its an improvement on the first game but that doest really take much. No great achievement on the commentary then. Also the music which accompanies the replays is nothing short of mind numbingly awful. I often find myself playing with the tv muted and music on to prevent from putting myself through the ordeal. It seems to me that the players runs, while slightly improved from PES are still leaving somewhat to be desired. At times it is spot on, but too often i wonder how the likes of Zidane and Ronaldo are making the worlds crappest runs ever. It makes no sense. The computer ai does not do much to impress either, too often i find that the game seems to flow in an obvious pattern, with me attacking and the computer blasting a long clearance forward and me building another attack from defence, consequently 9 games out of 10 go one way only super human goalkeeping seems to make any difference in matches.
On a number of occasions it seems the passing mechanisim was designed by the devil itself as seemingly more often than not the computer chooses the more difficult passing option. Fortunately manual passing can aid this annoyance over time, but for beginners is probably not the best option. The new master league format is greatly improved and is a welcome change from the pretty basic fromat experienced in the first outing, with improved league structure and cup competitions. The ability to edit team names and information is also another handy new feature as it has meant that i can finally play as Arsenal and not London, while Europort can once again be Liverpool and so on. Onto my biggest grievence, Emile Heskey can actually score on the game, which isnt a reflection of real life ! Its still the best out there, wipes the floor with fifa but still has a long way to go before it is the total game that many people feel it can become.

Best football game there is |
| Emin3M from Amsterdam, Netherlands says (28/Jan/2003): |
I think this is the best football game that there is on the playstation.. the PS2 version for the playstation 2 is even better than this one because of the beatiful graphics and a (different with the psx version) very nice gameplay. Greetz from Amsterdam

Scoring for a Hatrick |
| Benny from Peterborough says (26/Jan/2003): |
First things first, ISSPE2 is the best football around by a 35 yard long shot. I have to be honest, before the PS2 editions of the ISS games came about, I was not the biggest fan of the footy genre. But having played many matches I can tell you this is as close to the beautiful game as your gonna get. The physics of the SPOT ON control system, the shooting system, the way the players pass, and all of the tons of strategic features will make the player realise that this achievement was made by not just gaming developers, but developers who love the game itself. Yes, the commentry is appauling and sometimes you'd just love to smack your most powerful shot at point blank to Trevor Brooking's groin at times, but on the scale of things this really does not matter. The graphics and animation are pretty much tip top. True not as polished as FIFA's but do we really care when the gameplay and addiction factor is so hot? The vast array of options and different competitions, training features, player creation and best off all the very, very brillaint multiplayer mode will leave the player with more than plenty to do. Besides the commentry the only real minus I have to note is when on multiplayer mode and you combine your skills to take on the com, sometimes when after a dead ball you can have difficulty avoiding having player 1 and player 2 chasing the ball when 3 yards apart! But this really is nitpicking. All in all, a genuine classic really. I would like to have given this game 9 and a half but was not given the option!

| A gamer says (24/Jan/2003): |
I agree that the commentary is poor. Too add to the oranges player names there is a product called X-port which i have personally used and this has reconfigured all the teams and players, aswell as all of the classic brazil teams and argentine.

"Lets hope the players give us a game that will excite the fans" |
| matthew P from Hartlepool, north east england (yes im a monkey hanger!) says (15/Jan/2003): |
This game was eagerly awaited and came with a bang! its a great game the graphics are great! (not as good as fifas but who cares fifas "not in the same league"). Like most of the other reviews on this im going to mention the oranges )034, 056 etc etc etc, Wot the hell is that! i know they don't have copy right so they carn't mention player names but they could have made an effort like they did with the brazilian side, ( roberto LARCOS etc), at least people know who they are on about. there are afew little niggles with the controls and player responses as well like when your running toward goal and you're still holding the run button the player tryes a very iratating "lob" shot, because you forgot to reliese R1! Also the players let the ball role right passed them when you're in control of someone else! they watch it role passed them et 2 feet without attempting to collect it! Another big niggle is that they made michael owen a speed machine and he great at everything, there is only 2 better strikers (on the game) in my oppinion and these are cresspo (even though hes not that quick) and the legend that is Shevchenko! they've made owen better than van nistlerooy! thats just wrong. Craig belemy is the fastest player in the league by a long shot and owens faster on the game, it just winds me up because owen in real life is s*ite!
However the game is very adictive, esspecially the non international sides because of local rivalry. Im a man U fan and take great pleasue is absolutely anialating Arsnel scum 8, 9 , 10 nil! The points salery and transfer gimic is a nice totch as well. In all the game is great but if they bring out a ISS 3 they should beet fifa to the name copy right because by hell it'll be worth it, gods speed Komei and give us yet another ISS that wipes the floor with the next (irratating) fifa release. mat

The Best Football Game Ever? |
| Kaman Doyle from Liverpool says (7/Jan/2003): |
I love football and when i got this game i couldnt belive how good and addidive it gets, but! This game needs more club and international teams to pick from. The commantery is poor also how come you also give away fouls when you slide for a tackle and seemingly win it perfectly. I hope these problams can be resolved is pes3.

The best football game ever |
| sam Thurling from england, norfolk says (5/Jan/2003): |
I love football and have every ps2 football game and pro evolution 2 is the best by far. This makes fifa 2003 look like a cheap mega drive game. The grapics game play and life span are far beater than fifa. If you have a multi tap then the game is even beater having 4 or 5 players helping you or against you if you dont have a multi tap then you should get one. this is one game you cannt get bord of there is just so much to do. i would say this is the best game ever. 10/10

Oranges? What Oranges? Its all Dutch 2 me!! |
| A gamer says (4/Jan/2003): |
Am i the only person in the World who doesnt have the Orangesxxx on Pro Evolution 2, all the names are correct including Davids, Van Nistelrooy, and all Dutch Players, also players like Giggs have the correct name instead of Greggs. Anyway great game and even better than the last one!
|
Good Gameplay |
| R-Dubilya from SCOTLAND says (28/Dec/2002): |
Reading threw the points that have been made about the game, well they aint too good but i think the game is really good. Sometimes little things get on your nerves like commentery and the "oranges#xx" for the dutch players, and pretty much all the other names like for teams "Connact for Rangers, London for Arsenal & Celt for Celtic" are pretty hard to figure out which team is which when you start to pick teams for the match. But taking all that away i reckon what makes a good football game is how much you enjoy playing it and i really think the 'gameplay' if you know what is meant by that term is top. Also going with 'gameplay' follows the 'fun factor' and i can honestly say i loved it and most of my mates who have played it with me thought it was great and were gonna buy it!
So on my review the game losses a star because of the names and commentery but i recomend the game. Good value for money!!! It takes on FIFA 2003 head to head easilly and thats saying something seeing i think FIFA 2003 has been the best FIFA game so far, maybe FIFA 2003 takes the cherry in the end with better commentery and MORE real names and a greater amount of differant highlights etc. FIFA 2003 vs ISS PRO EVOLUTION 2 is a hard one to call when you match them up with there 'gameplay' and 'fun factor', they are both great recommended games + people should pretty much forget niggly things like names and commentery "they dont matter" when the game is as good as iss pro evolution 2!

ISS Pro Evo 2 Scores! I tell a lie they've missed |
| Warthy from Gloucestershire says (18/Dec/2002): |
Well i'll start with it's worth forking out 20 quid for this as a lot of the really annoying problems with the previous game have been sorted. For example: players now make half decent diagonal runs instead of looking like a chicken! Also the step-over fakes are more effective which improves build up play no end. This however has been sacrificed by rediculous player names and wot on earth is that oranges 031 all about or is it 011 or 018, WHO KNOWS? Also i happened to notice that the first crunching tackle of every game resulting in a yellow card happens to injure the opposing player. Whether this is a good thing is not for me to decide but it can get damn annoying if it's your player that gets injured. Some how i don't think this adds realism to the game. TWO more things, 1:WHERE'S THE GALLERY MODE GONE? it's not a vital thing but at least you know what you've completed and 2: It's far to easy to score with edgar davids (oranges 12035662, i really don't know) from around the centre circle!!! Ending on a high note however, it's still the best game out there and always will be in my opinion. It's either this game or rediculous 50 yard runs resulting in a rediculously accurate 30 yard screamer from any player on the pitch, yes, you've guest it.......FIFA RUBBISH
