WORTH THE MONEY!!27932

A gamer from San Francisco, CA USA says (16/Jul/2003):
First i have to say i have NEVER played a final fantasy game before. my friend recommended it so i bought a bunch and the only one i really got into was ff8 because of the stunning graphics and memorable music.

i thought ff8 was as a lot of people said, "HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE". YOU control whether you run into a monster every second or not. Sure, you have to LEARN those abilities first before you can junction them using the menu screen controls, but once you have them, those abilities make a weak character's attributes SO MUCH MORE powerful. I was originally attracted largely by the sound and graphics but when i was hitting a dead end in the game not being able to beat the ultimecia, i started doing a search on the websites for walkthrough facts and started looking for them in the game, and i could see how rich and adaptable the game was. I agree that the game is not self-evident as to where you go next and how you go about beating hard monsters, but for anybody giving a bad review, you have to UNDERSTAND AND PRACTICE the power of how to use 1) the junction system, 2) individual character limit breaks, 3) the Triple Triad card playing game and 4) Ability points. If you understand those three aspects of the game, even a neophyte can beat the hardest monsters. At first, it was taking forever for me to beat monsters especially in the latter part of the game until I really started understanding the importance of limit breaks. ( Up until then, I had relied on GF's.) Also, I didn't understand the Triple Triad card game which will give you those special items to make you invincible, which you'll especially need to battle the hardest monsters. Then also, I didn't know there were GF's that could make your life a LOT easier if you went about trying to find them or battle for them. Go to a few places on the web and read other players' reviews about how to beat them. Also, i was using the SAME junctioning every time instead of changing my junctioning magics and junctioning abilities after learning the abilities instead of paying attention to the pop-up items after each battle saying, "GF... has learned XY ability". Also, most RPG games rely on you levelling up which doesn't do much good here since the opposing monsters level up also. So you have to understand that Ability Points matter more than levelling in order to get those special abilities.

You can control the speed of the game. Don't like that that the GF's take so long to summon and slow the game down? Stock up on potions and phoenix downs, self-inflict damage on your characters to a low HP (your characters' numbers will turn yellow), save more often, and get your LIMIT BREAKS ready to hit your enemies fast and hard. Having a hard time finding that rare item to upgrade your weapon? Maybe you can get them through cards. Settle yourself down to playing a couple hundred card games and manipulate the card rules in each region. It's a nice slow but patient way of going from one battle to the next. There were a lot of either side quests like encountering Pupu the alien, Shumi Village sidequest, the Card games, acquiring Quistis' blue magic items, the Laguna side story (which affects the main story) that I never got bored from the game. I think I have played it over a dozen times already! Just its replay value is worth the money!!

it is just a game plus other stuff39921

A gamer from Chicago, Illinois says (22/Mar/2004):
I was just reading some of these reviews, taking passing glances. Then i stumbled upon a review from Sephiroth2008 (Not to single him out, there are probably many more reviews just like his). He was talking about how much ff8 sucked (I for one thought it was good, and 7 was good too), and sure I believe he has a right to voice his own opinion on why he disliked the game, because people have a right to do so. However what I don't quite understand is why he was talking about how Cloud could kick Squall's ass because he is gay and then he would piss on his body afterwards, hey man it's just a video game there is no need to go off on tangents about how one fictional character could totally kick a different fictional character's ass. Just explain to those who read your comments why you thought the game was bad, in your opinion. I remind you this is not just for Sephiroth but for those other people who make irrelevant and outlandish comments too. But with that out of the way. I do have to say I like ff8 and ff7 I have not yet played ff9 or ff10 or ff11 yet. But though I may have grown up with them I happen to like the older Final Fantasy games better that those. Like the original final fantasy for the NES with the jobs system (jobs system is awesome, and I have heard that ff10-2 uses jobs also but I also heard 10-2 was bad) and ff2 us or ff4j is also one of my favorites, especially the many different characters: i.e. Cecil(DK. Knight and Paladin), Rosa, Kain, Rydia(young and old), Edge, Palom, Porom, Tellah, Cid, FuSoYa, Yang, Edward, and I heard that it is possible to get Golbez without cheating, how exactly? No clue. then there was ff3us, ff6j with Terra what i thought was the coolest part of this game was the esper system, in my opinion that was the coolest. i could go on but i am very tired and have a expository research paper due tommorow (i was just procrastinating by doing this). I have just one more thing to say. Now i do not have a ps or a ps2 i have ff7 and 8 for computer. nut i would have to say that if square was to revamp ff2us and or ff3us and or ff1 so that they were in 3d like the current ff games, i would go out and buy a ps2 or whatever system would come out by when it will happen (i doubt it will) just for the purpose of playing one of those old ff games in the current style i do not care how much money it would cost me because in my opinion that is the extent that my gaming experience needs to reach. i get that and i won't need video games anymore ( i am probably exxagerating but i am too tired to care). all i am saying is that that would be awesome. in fact i am going to go play ff2 right now. after i finish my paper. so what-ever-your-name-is guy from earlier do whatever you want i dont even remember my actual message. oh yeah sure i could go READ IT but there is a problem, i am lazy and typing with only one finger, so therefore i am not going to do whatever i said earlier might solve my problem because of stuff i already said. i think. anyway i do not care so good night america.

Beautiful............8787

victoria from Elk Grove, USA says (31/Jul/2002):
This is one of my most favorite FFs after the masterpiece FF7. I love FF8 because of the realism and colorful world unlike FF7's poor, lack of towns, and dark Midgar. But 7's great storyline, fun, awesome characters, and humor adds this version as my most fave FF games. FF8 has "real" people who act with emotions and real life personalities. I enjoy this game and I think it is one of the greatest games of all time. It beats FFIX because of its quickness and slow leveling up. I like the fact that FF8 is long because it gives me time to power up my characters, do some card playing, getting GFs, and remodel weapons. I like the draw magic thing and the junctioning. I have no problem with any of them. Although the materia idea was only easier but harder at the same time. I didn't have a chance to power up all the materias before the final bosses. Not to mention the awful chocobo breeding and the powerful materia island sidequests. Who would spend so much Gil and time to run out to the world to find the perfect bird, feed the bird, train the bird, take it to Gold saucer, race it, breed it, until it gets gold. The results are never 100 percent. And the tiring work just gets me mad. Those are some of my down sides of 7.
8's sidequests are easy and less hassle. The Underwater Research center was tough! And extremely long. But the good news for me was it gave my party a chance to beef up to over level eighty. The sidequests in 8 i enjoy very much. I think it's fun and the card quest is very easy and collecting rare and new ones are even funner. 9's card games are tough and difficult. Of course, the cards don't look as attractive as those in FF8. Of course, the GFs in FF8 look much better than the summons of 9. But FFX's aeons are just as cool. Except for Bahamut. Looks like a Walking transformer. FF8's and FF7's Bahamuts can kick his butt! I love FF8 for everything. The beautiful characters, the story, the sidequests, music, vehicles (RAGNAROK!), the lovely Edea, etc. Here's my list of the best FF games I played (IMO)

1. FFVII
2. FFVIII
3. FFX
4. FFIX

The graphics and adorable characters (Zidane, Garnet, and Vivi) of FFIX (minus Quina, Steiner, Freya, and Amarant) is what I like about the game. The graphics in Alexandria in the opening caught my breath. Not to mention the gorgeous Princess Garnet/Dagger. And Vivi's appearance. But the game lacks fun, unfortunately. Not to mention one of the strategy guides makes you go to www.playonline.com so much you just want to give up playing the game. But finally beating the game makes me happy and i was able to get rid of it. Going on the website so much makes my family mad. Why couldn't they just put everything in one book like FF8? FF8 was a very good, and very handy guide. Worth it to me. Esp. when it comes to the sidequests!!!!!!!!!
Well, I think FF8 is definitely one of the best FF games I've played. FFX is a lot of fun too. The graphics are just as beautiful as FF8. FFX is definitely worth playing next!

A Final Fantasy game that deserves to be right up there with the BEST in the series.45473

The Artieful from Ontario, Canada says (27/Oct/2005):
i'm personally very tired of people dissing final fantasy VIII because they are too stupid to understand the story themselves. they just go ranting on about the gameplay and the plot in a VERY biased manner and don't take the time to give the game a bit more thought.
masamunist said that the villain is one that you never grow emotions for. well maybe if people payed more attention instead of constantly telling themselves that final fantasy VII is better they would've figured out that ultimecia is rinoa. and they would've also figured out that ulemicia/rinoa was compressing time so that she could bring squall back to her time forever. if people are too stupid to understand the amazing story behind this game it's not the game's fault. i really hate thick headed people that force themselves into thinking that VIII sucks just to keep VII on their number 1 list. so contrary to what you said, ultimecia is VERY characterized and you grow A LOT of emotions for her if you would actually understand the plot behind everything (and if you don't, go look it up cause there are TONS of forums that discuss who rinoa being ultimecia). the game tells the REAL story in forms of symbolism and incomplete text, but OBVIOUS clues make the story something truly unique.
for it's time, it boasts very good graphics and over the top CGI.
and when it comes to gameplay, just because there is no materia in it that doesn't mean the game automatically sucks. if you're dying for materia go back and play VII some more and stop complaining. the music in the game lives up to the name of final fantasy, though there are some songs with lyrics in them which do sound a bit corny, however i find it odd that nobody's complaining about the horrible song that came at the end of FFIX. the characters in the game are something different than you're regular old cliche party that came from God knows what army and God knows what organization and makes it a bit more simple. gameplay wize, the game is something that will admittedly take some getting used to if you've played other final fantasies before this, but it is not a burden that you will NEVER learn your whole life that will come to piss you off to no extent like what other FFVII fanboys say. and finally, if you ever DO happen to come across this game, be sure to know that it is one that requires you to THINK about the story to understand it's true meaning. once you do it was can truly turn out wonderful. and all i can say is that final fantasy VIII is a game that lives up to the final fantasy name. I have beaten all final fantasies from VII to X and know what i'm talking about. i'm not saying FFVIII is may favourite FF, but i'm not saying FFVII is either. they are both damn good games and both deserve an equal amount of respect in their own right.

a s**tload of fluffy romance45383

masamunist says (2/Oct/2005):
sorry if im gunna piss some people off by saying this but FFVII is by far the best FF. Who wuz the guy up there who says that the FVIII storyline is better??? come on honestly which sounds more exciting- some badass vilain trying to blow up a Planet and a mercenary with some other guys who have had different pasts and lifestories trying to stop him- or some prissy sorceress trying to compress time for no apparent reason with a moody schoolboy and his little mates who have all had the SAME past (childhood at the orphanage) trying to stop her...
excuse me the guy who said 'you can stick to 'my little pony' and 'where's wally'' i wud say that to FF8 lovers who hate FFVII. because hey, ff8 is just a $#< remove me > at !load of fluffy romance between a guy who, like Seifer said, has just hit puberty and an immature girl who's always whining for him to save her. where's the EXCITEMENT!!? and where the hell are those 'twists and turns' you guys are talking about in the storyline??? oooh you mean the sudden splatter of information that you get halfway in the story about how all of a sudden the main vilain turns out to be a friendly lady and the real baddie is someone you don't even know and who you dont have time to build up emotions on. With Sephiroth you had the WHOLE GAME to decide whether or not you hate him. I for one think he's one of the main good points of FFVII- an excellent vilain makes an excellent game... most of the time anywayz.
I agree with the guy who talked about how the Junction system sucks and is annoying. I mean on FFVII you could just use and Ether if you MP run out but on FF8 if you run out of a certain type of magic 1) it lowers you stats and 2) you have to run across the world trying to find the monster from which you nicked the magic from. It's just stupid.
And just to add another point, when Rinoa and Squall were in the Ragnarok $#< remove me > at !pit out in space and Eyes On Me started up i literally laughed and thought that they did it on purpose to diss stupid romantic music. But then i ran into forums where people were saying 'ooh ooh eyes on me is so brilliant...' GAG!!
and the end music sounds like the crap that my old Pokemon gameboy games music. btw who around here managed to get to ultemcia's last form on 1HP after like 45 mins of using strong magic and then ultemicia suddenly gets pissed, uses like 5 strong moves in a go and beats the crap out of you, because that's what happened to me. THe last battle is just way to long and boooooring. I'm gonna have to go waste another 45 mins of my life trying to beat ultemicia just to see the end movie- because that's the main reason why i actually keep playing the game..

This game kept me interested.37885

Delila from Columbus, Ohio says (3/Jan/2004):
Final Fantasy VIII was a satisfying game. It had its ups and downs. First off, I've visited most sites and reveiwers were saying how much some battles got annoying. Well, I'd say this, those battles were for you to level up and become stronger to defeat the final boss. Also, others say the love story wasn't "real enough". This was a game, of course everything will be fast moving to keep you interested. The love story took sort of a fairy-tale approach with Squall and Rinoa. Which was good. It would be believable for me because its a game.

Also, many people said the game was too much of a Squall and Rinoa deal. Of course, if you look on the cover, their the main two on the cover. In the intro, I kind of new the young woman dressed in blue was on the young man dressed in leather. The other characters also had their major parts also. First, they were joined by fate. Second, they were with Squall throughout the whole game. Third, if it weren't for the others, the main character wouldn't have made it to the end.

Of course, that's their opinion, if you like the game, you like the game, if you don't, then you don't. Everyone has their own taste.

The graphics for the game was great. I enjoyed it very much. The makers of the game did a very good job at making the characters look real or believable. The characters personality was great also. Each had their own personality, making the game enjoyable.

The storyline was good also. It made me actually think that this world could be real. Every thing that happened in the game or more specifically, the major events in the game was back up, which is very important.

As for the battles in the game, they were good also. Of course it could get annoying, but that's normal.(I guess) What I liked about it was the way squaresoft set it up. Magic, weapons, Gfs, hit points, etc. All of this is kind of real. (except the Gfs and Magic) The experience points are just like this.

Think of a soldier, the more he battles, the more stronger and wiser he gets right? So, if the soldier battled new things, he'd get wiser. The soldier would be able to know how to deal with the enemy. I think others kind of got lost in that fact.

The enemies were thought up well. It explained how all of the living animals were born, great back up.

Over all, this game was good. I'd highly recommend this game for anyone. It's easy to follow and play. Very challenging. ^.^

The good and the F**KIN STUPID38241

rosk from england says (14/Jan/2004):
right this game is kool. I have read other peoples reviews and have discoverd that the battles were not liked because they were different. I personally believe that the battles being changed ahve been changed for the better because you can use your G/F ( also known as summons to all you ff7 fans )more than once. The graphics for the g/fs are stunning but they take to long which when your on a time limit is a problem because you dont have much time. There are loads of thing to find in this game and to get everything on it is almost impossible. i did it and it took me almost 5 month. There are cards in this game to collect which also make up a little sub game where you play random people in the streets and if you win you can win cards off them but in some parts of the ff world there are different rulez. Some regiens have different ways of playing which can make thing difficult so you have to master each of these rulez. The limit BReaks are stunning especially Squals limit break lion heart which if you have the rite level and meteria level can cause 9999 for every blow and there is about 15 blows so you can wipe out a boss in one limit break. There are loads of magic in this game and you can now draw out magic for baddies in random areas on the map for your self and your party members. There are other specials that your summons can learne to like giving you more strengh or risitance to a type of element. You can shop in the iddle of know where because one of your g/fs can get you anything or you can turn potions into magic ro magic into items. Its all stratagy based and you can do what you like when you like. The graphics to be honest arnt nothing to write home about but the thrill comes when your character moves around in the fmv. When your in a FMV sequance..its really a backdrop so the backgrounds are moving and look real and your player moves around and it looks amazing..it has to be seen to know what im talking about. There are many places you can viste some that arnt anything to do with the story and you can just fly, or go by train or boat there........you carnt ply to places until the 3rd disk after you have been to space. Also to this stopry is the other side....yo play as squal for most part of the story but in some places you play in the past as a mecinary called laguna and his pals. This all adds up to the final plot at the end where you fight the future soucer ultimicia.

FF8 A stunning, complex, deep, challenging and varied game29381

Rik with no see from Bath, England says (7/Aug/2003):
When i got my playstation 3 years ago I was surprised by the different type of games available. FF7 was my first RPG experience. I got stuck on it and gave it up. I then bought FF8. I was impressed by the brilliant integration between the actual game-play and cutseen videos. The beginning of the game gripped me, even though it was not highly entertaining. A lot of cutseens full of eye candy kept me glued to the screen. I became so addicted to the game, that I played it throughout one summer holiday every day. When i got the third disc, perhaps the most boring in terms of storyline but best in terms of general entertainment, and it gave me the chance to whield some fancy weapons around the world against some fancy monsters, all of which became increased fun when travelling in the Ragnorak, the flying ship that i aquired. My Third disc became scratched however, and i actually went out and bought another copy of the game, as so i could continue. I never explored the full potential of the game, i completed it yes, but i never fully got the full experience, for instance i never aquired all the GF's, i was missing four or five when i came to fight Ultimecea. I never aquired all the cards either. However the game was incredible and i wish i had used a guide, not to complete it, but to complete it 100% as the game deserves that level of your attention to detail. Oh yes, the brilliant little extra the game has, the OMEGA weapon, i have never beaten it, in Ultimecea's Castle, it is a brilliant extra which apitimises FF8, there is the normal game, and yes it is not easy but not impossibly hard to complete, and then there is all the extras the game holds, the card championships, the OMEGA weapon (which is harder then Ultimecea) and collecting the GF's ect, to beat these tasks, is hard, challenging but fun and usually hidden! Its an amazing game, ive completed FF9 as well, but FF8 was my favourite, and the cutseen at the end of FF8 is longer then 9 so that tips the balance, well worked, no glitches, great graphics, amazingly complex and deep plot, varied paces and all around an incredible game from Square once again.
If you havent got it still, go get it, even today it is good, but i was gonna go back and do it again but i was so demorilised when i saw how poor your characters are at the start compared to the finish i dispaired! and carried on at the OMEGA weapon. Happy gaming!

Love Story weigh much for ff818791

Hidemirrorman from China says (7/Mar/2003):
I bought FF8 a very long long time ago (I feel so) and I have just finished it yesterday. The main reason for this is that I have given up it after I started to play it for an hour. I gave it up just because I dont like the junction system and most of all, the use of GF. Actually I can accept the junction system but the junction of GF discouraged me. I think the usage of GF was too much and I disliked it! I wanna kill enemies with a sword and magic and not a GF! However, FF8 battle requires too much use of GFs because they are much more powerful than using weapons, the situation changes only when the game is about to finish! The junction system also takes up you time to 'handle' which adds unnecessary difficulties to the game. The 2nd point why I gave it up was that I dont like the 'story' line at the start, actually FF8 carrys no story at the beginning and the sense of 'no aim' makes me dislike it. The 3rd point is that I dont like the card games and the minigames, there is no special reason, I just dont like it. I like killing enemies but dont wanna play cards. (Actually you can finish the game without playing any card games or another minigame) I just deem such card games as a waste of time. As I am not so busy for the past 3 mths, I started to play FF8 again, I try not to quit so early and eventually I finished it though I still dislike the over useage of GF. I think it is the 'character' of Squall which attracts me to play FF8 again. I think we have more or less the same character, and playing FF8 just like watching me in the game, it's funny. As the title stated above, the love story weigh much for FF8 and I give it eight stars coz' it's very touching. But I'm not talking about the love between Squall and Rinoa, it's Laguna and Raine! It's really very touching and I had to admit that I have tears in my eyes when watching the ending scene of Laguna. (I havent fall in love before, the reason is more or less the same as Laguna.....) I think I'm the combination of Squall of Laguna.......I mean the character...........FF series not only provide you with just a game, but the story which attracts you and the characters make you substitue yourself into the game sometimes, what do you see? (my english isnt good enough,I may not be able to express my feelings clearly, pls forgive me)

I know a great game when i Play 139106

Zell13 from Sullivan, U.S.A says (16/Feb/2004):
I think FF8 is the best game ever!!!! I think the graphics are excellent, the plot is awesome, etc. My favorite part is the characters! they all are unique and they're very detailed so they could pass as a real person. Now i've played tons of games in my life, i've been a serious gamer since i was like 5, but i didn't start serious gaming until 9. I'd get a game, and beat it in either 2 to 4 months. But i night i decided to play a demo to ff8, and i couldn't beat it. i was like, woah! this is harder than i thought. 2 days later i beat it, but it turned out to be my favorite video game. so i got and it still haven't beat it. It's awesome, because i'm so abosered in the game i feel like i'm in a real battle everytime 1 comes up. The 1st time i had to battle the sorceress i actually got nervous. Another thing that's cool is that some of the characters act like me, and people i know. My 2 best friends act like Squall and Selphie, i act like Zell. I know i good- GREAT game when i play one. No offense to all those people out there that like to post complaints but comeon! People come to this website to read the good qualties of the game.(which is everything) not why it stinks. Maybe someone's about to buy it, but they read complaints, and decide not to, which means they're missing out on a really good game. but like i said, no offense. Anyways, i loved when they introduce a character, they'd get the best graphics. Espically Zell's. they also do a great job with the G.F's. when they 1st summoned Quezacotl it looks magnificent. Iftrit looks truly ferocious/awesome. i think those 2's attacks are AWESOME. they are heavily detailed. i love the weapons too. They are wicked cool. i love the metal knuckles and the gunblade. Magic;s also really cool, but not as powerful as some attacks. i also like the dragons. The limit breaks also awesome. Another reason i love this game is because i'm planning on becoming a soldier when i'm old enough. i think there's just as much action in this game and enough lessons to show me some army stuff until than. well before i go, i wanna say THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER AND I RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS A GOOD GAME/CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic-slash-Exquisite Game.. If you hate this, I'll eat your head!44527

A Trepie named Setsuna from Philippines says (11/Apr/2005):
Aw man, where do I start!? First off, I {heart} Squall Leonhart. I adore the song Eyes on Me. I crave for hotdogs {because of Zell!}. The gameplay was fantabulous. The storyline was very nice. What more can I say? I just love Final Fantasy VIII. I just can't understand why people hate it.

Yes, I understand that some 'things' in FF games are the same {for instance, the GFs and the darn lead male characters that don't know what to do but to hate the world and everything in it}, yeah, that was kinda annoying but this is ridiculous. 'The game sucked'!? I don't know how you can put those words together! Look, I also like FF9. I really do. But in terms of graphics, they're just plain.. similar! The characters.. well, I like FF8's characters because they are more realistic. The abilities were similar to most of the FF games.. and better! Who's not tired of playing the black mage, the thief, the knight and such!? {I know I am} The gameplay was fantastic! And the storyline {although I really wasn't satisfied with it} is an 8 out of 10 for me. If this game sucked, then all of the Final Fantasy sucked even more. Because of this game, I learned that gaming consoles existed.

*breathes heavily* I need to stop that before I literally burst into flames.

Anyway, I really like FF8 because for me, it's so romantic. I only wish that Quistis became Squall's love interest but.. Rinoa's nice too. I adore the sounds {especially Eyes on Me and the er.. sound when you're at Balamb and when you're at the Balamb Garden} 'coz it's very soothing. If you ask me, I'd play that game all day long if I can! And before I forget, I enjoyed using the 'Friendship' item, it was awesome! For me, FF8 is much more unique than the other FF games. How can you say that it's a game so bad that it should not be allowed in this world? I admit that I'm only a beginner in the gaming stuff but what I know is that FF8 never ever sucked! {Whoah! That rhymed!} Darn it, I know I should've done this but I found 117 results for FF8 hatelistings.. but found 908 results for FF8 fanlistings! In your face haters!

Ahh.. I shouldn't be talking like this. But I just wanna say one thing.. life would never be the same without FF8! ^.^

FF8 Is The Reason I Fell In Love With Series In The Frist Place44182

A gamer from Indiana Usa says (20/Feb/2005):
I know I already wrote a review, but I have some things say. What's with you people living FF7's shadow. Yes, I'll admit it was a wonderful game even if the graphics did suck and yes there is parts in FF8 that didn't tower over FF7, but I don't care. I still loved FF8. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want all my games to be the same. And that's what all you FF7 fanboys want. You all want every game in the FF series to be the same. Well, you know what? Not everyone does, including me! And just because you didn't like it doesn't mean you have right to ruin it for anyone else. You know, you people who say that who ever likes this game is not a real gamer. Well, YOU'RE not real gamers. And it's not because you don't like this game, in fact it's fine to me that you don't. Real gamers are mature and accept changes. They learn to deal with them, not whine though their whole lives about how the game wasn't what they wanted. And because they weren't happy with the changes they don't except eveyone to agree with them and they don't get really pissed when someone doesn't share the same opinion. To me that's what a real gamer is. I mean, I didn't like FFT too much, but I don't bitch to people how I didn't like it and how they shouldn't buy it just because I couldn't stand it. To me they can like whatever they want. They're the ones playing it, not me. My point is, you can't except everyone to share the same opinion as you. And if they don't, leave them alone! They're the ones playing the game, not you! So what are you bitching about? Oh yeah, one other thing. This whole thing about which character is stronger or that bu*< remove me > at sh#t about who can beat who up
GROWUP!!!! Seriously, f*$< remove me > at ing grow up!!! That sh#t is for six year olds, and it also tells me you're a lousy gamer!!!! You don't like the game? Fine, whatever. No one f*#$ing cares or at least anyone actually matters!! The only advice I have you FF7
fanboys who are closeminded and think out their ass, is you better get use changes because not all RPG are gonna be same and you better learn to deal with or you're not gonna have nothing play. Then you'll really have something whine and bitch about.

Not Squaresoft's best but it still rocks!43419

no_angel from Manila, Philippines says (29/Nov/2004):
I finished FF8 3 times already and I although I think FF8 is not exactly the best rpg ever.. seriously, calling it crap is just plain stupid and pompous! The game's superb graphics alone is something to rave about. It was really a HUGE leap from FF7. The FMV's were simply breathtaking to behold and the GF summons were spectacular. Its remarkable that the characters were well-developed both appearance and personality wise that they could pass on for real people (not to mention the really cool weapons!). The introduction of the junction system and draw magic is also a good wrinkle to the battle system. Those who hate the game for the junction system because its "confusing" are either too impatient to learn (Patience is a virtue of RPG gamers... duh?) or just plain too weak-minded. The wide variety of items, magic, abilities, GFs and limit breaks (Squall's Lionheart was amazing) available in FF8 allows the player to customize characters to adapt to his/her own unique battle strategy . Audiowise, it's one of the best on the PS1 and the soundtracks were better than what you'd expect from a game. This is not to say the game is perfect, of course.. The loading time for each frame was irritating.. I think the story suffers from overplayed melodrama and it really drags on some parts. The "love plot" could've been treated better. Squaresoft's bid for a unique story on FF8 is simply a double-edge gunblade. Some will really like it (my sister does..) while some will loathe and curse Squaresoft for it. Also I agree on one reviewer that the final boss was relatively easy (I defeated her in just 2 tries) In fact, I had a harder time beating the omega weapon. But all in all it was still a great game.. I've been a rpg gamer since I was 10 and played almost all of the FF games. Although it did not push the "gaming" envelope like its predecessor, (I believe FF7 totally redefined RPG's forever) with awesome graphics, fun mini-games and unique battle system, it still delivers the goods. FF8 may not be the best in the series but nonetheless still a worthy part of the Final Fantasy franchise.

this is the worst game i have EVER played....36591

Cloud Strife from Toronto Canada says (4/Dec/2003):
Worst.Game.Ever.FFVII is still my fovourite ff game.8 is a total disaster.like,it had the worst story,GF's made it WAY TOO EASY,characters were bad, junction was weird, everything was SO blurry, the weapon upgrades were dumb, the card game was lame(9s was good though),Square failed to make a good love story, there was no front row or back row in battle like 7 and 9 had, characters moved sorta slow in battle, the sound when you attack sounds like someone $#< remove me > at !ting, the space scene was lame, spells did extremly low damage(fire3 in ff7 did like 2000-3000 damage and firaga(ff8)did about 200-300 damage if you were lucky),the characters looked about as big as buildings, everyone was so skinny, the personality of the characters were pretty stupid,a bunch of cool characters(the only cool characters to me were seifer and laguna)were not playable, the SeeD thingy was stupid, the fact that the 2 other characters you had in your party(besides squall)copied whatever you did was annoying, there was no materia or jobs, the characters looked gay,the battle graphics were bad(infact,i believe that ff7's battle graphics and squat-like graphics are better than all of ff8's graphics(except the movie scenes)),it wasnt very customizable, the junction COULD MAKE EVERY CHARACTER EXACTLY THE SAME,you can play the game once and return it to the store in a few hours and finnaly,THIS GAME SUCKS.
IT SUCKS.THERE YOU HAVE IT PEOPLE,THIS GAME SUCKS.There you have it,i just made a list of a bunch of reasons why this game sucks.like i said,THIS GAME SUCKS.

Final Fantasy Comparisons44153

ebarbre from Constantine (Michigan) US says (17/Feb/2005):
Wow, some people on here have some real issues. I've played every single FF up to 10. I haven't got X-2 nor did I ever get a HDD and get FF XI, but here's what I think about the other 6. Good game, very ingenious idea to start a timeless series. 2 & 3 were very good at story lines and gameplay was decent. 7 revamped the way RPG's were made. Great, great story and beautiful FMV's. Sephiroth one of the best villians in a FF series. 8 was a very good follow up, and if you were to take out the Sephiroth factor, 8 would be my favorite. I thought the final boss was lacking a little and the story wasn't quite as good, but not bad. Absolutely loved the junctioning system and the draw system, but hated that you couldn't just drop magic you didn't want and absolutely hated that you couldn't control Limit Breaks, they were pretty much useless without spending time on spells or having low hit points, in which you'd more likely get killed before you used it on an enemy you truly needed it. 9 was disappointing to me. The story wasn't all that great, there wasn't a great leap in graphics. Also, I thought the main character was a little weak. There just didn't seem to be anything heroic about him. 10 was absolutely wonderful in the game play and the graphics. The story was a little big different, it had it's good points and it's bad points. I wanted to smash my controller when I saw what happened *or lack of not knowing what happened* to Tidus, but at the same time, I thought what a great twist. I'm glad they made a sequel for it and even though I heard it sucked, I will try it. For all you haters of 8 *especially you lovers of 9* come on, play the game for the fun. If you don't like the game for the junctioning system, you need to stop playing RPG's because they require brains to play. Just shut up, enjoy the game, and if you're concerned about just wasting $50 on a game, either rent it and play, or wait until it drops to $20 and buy it. Otherwise, piss and moan to your mirror, cause that's the only person who cares.

Why do people go for FF7? It's because their puny brains cant comprehend the magnicicence of FF8.40041

Mario from Frome, England says (29/Mar/2004):
FF8...Where can I start. Theres just so much. Firstly, I think I'm gonna have a moan about all these people that have posted about how much they hate FF8, and think that 7 is the best, etc. Cmon...you know the people. Admittedly, they are entitled to their own opinions, but how can you hate such a magnificent game as much as these people claim to?
They say the Junction system was stupid. I'm sorry, but I think it could be YOU whom is stupid. The junction system has got to be the most flexible and useful system in any game (apart from maybe jobs, but there ya go...) Anyway, I'm sorry if any of you FF8 haters found it a bit to hard to get your head round.
Next up, is the story, which is also quite a common complaint. When I first heard some of the complaints made about the storyline, I laughed. How could these people be so STUPID?
This has simply got to be the best storyline ever (or something close at least)with so many twists and turns, ups and downs, something constantly moving, I find it also impossible to dislike. Again I am sorry to any FF8 haters If it was hard to get your head round. You just stick to "my little pony" and "wheres wally" instead.
Next, I will comment upon possibly the stupidest comment I have heard involving FF8. This was; "The ending was crap, It was to unhappy." I have one word to some up what I think about that: BULLSH*T(sorry, I try not to swear, but come on...) How lame can you get? just cuz the ending was an unhappy one, It doesn't make it bad. Anyway, I had best not say anymore about that, for anyone who hasn't completed the game.
Right.....I think thats about it for my moaning. Next up, I will give a one word summary of the different factors of the game:
Story:Breath-taking
Graphics:Incredible
Lifespan:Epic
Enjoyability: 100/10 (not quite one word but hey...)
All in all: Incredible,Superb,Fantastic, etc (you get the picture)
Lastly, Please, please, PLEASE dont let all those FF8 haters put you off. If you like Final Fantasys, you really should buy this game.

a s**tload of fluffy romance45384

masamunist says (2/Oct/2005):
Who wuz the guy up there who says that the FVIII storyline is better than FFVII's??? come on honestly which sounds more exciting- some badass vilain trying to blow up a Planet and a mercenary with some other guys who have had different pasts and lifestories trying to stop him- or some prissy sorceress trying to compress time for no apparent reason with a moody schoolboy and his little mates who have all had the SAME past (childhood at the orphanage) trying to stop her...
excuse me the guy who said 'you can stick to 'my little pony' and 'where's wally'' i wud say that to FF8 lovers who hate FFVII. because hey, ff8 is just a $#< remove me > at !load of fluffy romance between a guy who, like Seifer said, has just hit puberty and an immature girl who's always whining for him to save her. where's the EXCITEMENT!!? and plsu there's this sudden splatter of information that you get halfway in the story about how all of a sudden the main vilain turns good and the real baddie is someone you don't even know and who you dont have time to build up emotions on. With Sephiroth you had the WHOLE GAME to decide whether or not you hate him.
It's just stupid.
the end music sounds like the crap that my old Pokemon gameboy games played. btw who around here managed to get to ultemcia's last form on 1HP after like 45 mins of using strong magic and then ultemicia suddenly gets pissed, uses like 5 strong moves in a row and beats the crap out of you, because that's what happened to me. THe last battle is just way to long and boooooring. I'm gonna have to go waste another 45 mins of my life trying to beat ultemicia just to see the end movie- because that's the main reason why i actually keep playing the game..

One Heck of a Game45384

Ashley from Pittsfield, USA says (8/Aug/2002):
Final Fantasy eight was my first rpg and the best i've seen up until ff10. The plot is really good and the characters are very diverse. each has thier own story and all the stories conect together in one way or another. they should have had more talking on the game rather than just the song Eyes on Me in the Ragnarok. I think that the game should have lasted a little longer than it did. I thought that the graphics were awesome. My favorite scene was the ballroom dancing with Rinoa and Squall. i thought it was a real challenge having to earn money and collect items to make weapons and such. The magic was kind of a downer. You could only use as many as you had stocked up and it becomes a real prob when you are trying to draw magic from a monster that can kill you in one hit. Drawing GFs from monsters was a problem too, cause you're trying to kill the enemie yet they have this one little GF hooked to em that ya really want, but you're already having trouble defeating them. All in all the game is a real strategic game that presents you with problem after prblem like when a few characters get locked in Caraway mansion or when rinoa gets hooked onto adel. things like that but it is one heck of a game!!! Leveling up is really hard too. Some characters are so hard to level up thaht you just toss em to the side and forget about em until you really need then your in trouble when they get picked to face ultemecia. PROBLEMS! he he he. the ending sequence was really great too. it was long and beautiful. The characters, if you look, are put in puportion. Their legs and arms are the right length and their heads and neck look right. And, for the first time(i think) ever, a japanese game made so that the women don't have Jumbo tits!! if you don't believe me compare FF7 tifa to FF8 Quistis and Rinoa and selphie. WOW and amen to that. hehehe. well i have said all i can about this wonderful game goddbye and have fun playing!!

THE ABSOLUTE BEST IN EVERY WAY IT KICKS ASS!!!!21770

oly johnson ff 8 extroudinaire from nuneaton englan UK says (20/Apr/2003):
Final Fantasy 8 was the abolute best Final Fantasy game I've ever played I'm not at the end yet I havent been able to beat Adel probably because I never upgrade my weapons and i all ways have Squall Zell and Rinoa in my team all the others are crap! and Rinoa gets caried away so I have to choose a crappy one I dont like fighting adel because I have to sacrifise my Squall card to stand a chance but the graphics are the best and beleve me Ive played all the ff games and in my opinian not 1 of them can compare to ff 8
I like It mostly because it has the best abilities the story is exellent and for once youre tall enough to be a propper looking cadet instead of just about 2 feet tall I like how Squall starts off as a git who never exepts help but then he meets Rinoa and starts to change and eventualy remembers how he was as a kid To all you who think FF 8 is crap I hate you all and think the lot of you shud be hauled to a Nut house!!! Youre lucky you decided not to put your E mail adress on your revew or youd get hate mail like crazy as for me I like it best because its most realistic and I like the way Squall and rinoa start slowly connecting a shame Squall dies at the end i wanted it to be siefer realy its by no doubt the best game ever sucks to all you who dont like it the music is DA bomb espesialy the battle music you get when U play as Laguna the gameplay is absolutly the best in the million to one chance of there being a better game I still would recomend this one I don't beleve they made a sequal to ff 10 I am infuriated by the fact they didnt make a sequal to tis one in my school locker I have every ff8 picture ever put on the internet when I looked in the playstation whats hot and whats not magazine this was at the top damn all you who dont like it to Hell!!! If you havent got the game and you see it in the shops you buy it it is so original I just wish that all the ff's where sequals to this one
