Final Fantasy Comparisons | | ebarbre from Constantine (Michigan) US says (17/Feb/2005): | Wow, some people on here have some real issues. I've played every single FF up to 10. I haven't got X-2 nor did I ever get a HDD and get FF XI, but here's what I think about the other 6. Good game, very ingenious idea to start a timeless series. 2 & 3 were very good at story lines and gameplay was decent. 7 revamped the way RPG's were made. Great, great story and beautiful FMV's. Sephiroth one of the best villians in a FF series. 8 was a very good follow up, and if you were to take out the Sephiroth factor, 8 would be my favorite. I thought the final boss was lacking a little and the story wasn't quite as good, but not bad. Absolutely loved the junctioning system and the draw system, but hated that you couldn't just drop magic you didn't want and absolutely hated that you couldn't control Limit Breaks, they were pretty much useless without spending time on spells or having low hit points, in which you'd more likely get killed before you used it on an enemy you truly needed it. 9 was disappointing to me. The story wasn't all that great, there wasn't a great leap in graphics. Also, I thought the main character was a little weak. There just didn't seem to be anything heroic about him. 10 was absolutely wonderful in the game play and the graphics. The story was a little big different, it had it's good points and it's bad points. I wanted to smash my controller when I saw what happened *or lack of not knowing what happened* to Tidus, but at the same time, I thought what a great twist. I'm glad they made a sequel for it and even though I heard it sucked, I will try it. For all you haters of 8 *especially you lovers of 9* come on, play the game for the fun. If you don't like the game for the junctioning system, you need to stop playing RPG's because they require brains to play. Just shut up, enjoy the game, and if you're concerned about just wasting $50 on a game, either rent it and play, or wait until it drops to $20 and buy it. Otherwise, piss and moan to your mirror, cause that's the only person who cares.
| Not Squaresoft's best but it still rocks! | | no_angel from Manila, Philippines says (29/Nov/2004): | I finished FF8 3 times already and I although I think FF8 is not exactly the best rpg ever.. seriously, calling it crap is just plain stupid and pompous! The game's superb graphics alone is something to rave about. It was really a HUGE leap from FF7. The FMV's were simply breathtaking to behold and the GF summons were spectacular. Its remarkable that the characters were well-developed both appearance and personality wise that they could pass on for real people (not to mention the really cool weapons!). The introduction of the junction system and draw magic is also a good wrinkle to the battle system. Those who hate the game for the junction system because its "confusing" are either too impatient to learn (Patience is a virtue of RPG gamers... duh?) or just plain too weak-minded. The wide variety of items, magic, abilities, GFs and limit breaks (Squall's Lionheart was amazing) available in FF8 allows the player to customize characters to adapt to his/her own unique battle strategy . Audiowise, it's one of the best on the PS1 and the soundtracks were better than what you'd expect from a game. This is not to say the game is perfect, of course.. The loading time for each frame was irritating.. I think the story suffers from overplayed melodrama and it really drags on some parts. The "love plot" could've been treated better. Squaresoft's bid for a unique story on FF8 is simply a double-edge gunblade. Some will really like it (my sister does..) while some will loathe and curse Squaresoft for it. Also I agree on one reviewer that the final boss was relatively easy (I defeated her in just 2 tries) In fact, I had a harder time beating the omega weapon. But all in all it was still a great game.. I've been a rpg gamer since I was 10 and played almost all of the FF games. Although it did not push the "gaming" envelope like its predecessor, (I believe FF7 totally redefined RPG's forever) with awesome graphics, fun mini-games and unique battle system, it still delivers the goods. FF8 may not be the best in the series but nonetheless still a worthy part of the Final Fantasy franchise.

The trick to completing this game is to draw magic. With a healthy stock of magic and three characters on level 40 or over you will beat dis game with ease. Also for those who are stuck when you ace ultimecias final form at 1 point there will be 2 targets that is when you draw appocalypse of the 1 of them make sure you get a good stock of these whilst you can as the second ultimecia isnt around for long. Justkeep using recover on the people you have that have survived and keep casting appocalypse when you can. After beating the final boss just sit back and watch the final part. I have only 1 final fantasy to beat now and thats 7 anyone have any hints for me. If so send them me please. Final fantasy 8 proves that final fantasys rock like no other game and it also proves that comuter games can really make you involved and can teach us all lessons about real life in a virtual world. If i could explain how much thid game means to me you would give it a try because i like it that much. Also make sure you have plenty of meltdown magic because this really comes in handy. Make sure you use diablos o every boss because you will find it does tons of damage to half of them.
| An average game but no where near as good as the others | | Moo from Norwich, England says (20/Aug/2004): | This game is about a stoic, young mercenary named Squall who is hired by Balamb garden and is sent around the world to do numerous missions, the love interest is a girl named Rinoa who he meets on one of his missionsThis game starts off well, I love the idea of the garden and every bit in the garden is good. In fact the first disc is brilliant. BUT then it all goes horribly wrong. Physical attacks are too weak and so you just end up using GFs. There are a few side quests none of them worth doing(apart from the Shumi village part.) It is horribly repetitive you just keep fighting Seifer and Sorceresses for very little reason, Squall keeps getting infuriated for no apparent reason and thats about it. It really does get very boring after a while. You just have to resort to summoning GFs and the seqeunces get very boring after a while. Its a long game and the only reson I bought it and played it through to the end was purely because it is a final fantasy game. Another bad part of the game is when 'Garden master NORG' appeares for no apparent reason and kills every1. The dream sequences are quite good though I think because it allows you to play as other characters. Basically this game relies to much on summoning and summoners. Buy it, but only if you can get it cheap.
| FF8 is DA BOMB Man!! | | Erick from Tigard OR USA says (9/Jul/2004): | Man this game is awsome!All the graphics are great and also the monsters(The monsters are VERY hard when you go to the Island colosest to Heaven!!And also the Island closest to Hell!)If you want a game that has awsomecharacters,weapons,monsters,graphics and other stuff then FF8 is right for you!!When my brother first got this game I thought it was like a dumb and boring game but when I started to play it it was like HELL!!!Man my brother and I kept on playin till we were Down to Ultimitia's Castle!!We were stuck on Tri-Point But my brother had an idea on how to defeat it so we kept on Battling other monsters in the castle till Squall and Zell Became level 100 and we defeated them!!Man I tried and tried and tried to deafeat Ultimitia but I just cant beat her everyone was level 100 and they all had their best weapon's and I had all GF's But I just can't beat her!!I tried to deafeat Ultimitia 37 times!!!But when I tried my 38 times to deafeat Ultimitia I deafeated Her!!
Man that was the greatest victory I had in the game you gotta get this game man!Oh yeh I forget to mention one thing you can drive balamb garden and the Ragnarak!!Yeah man this game better than any game I played!!!
| A BRILLIANT GAME! I'm not sayin its better than final fantasy 7 or 9 because they are just as good. The story line to this game is unique and imaginative I LOVE IT! The characters are really detailed in characteristics especially squall he has to be the greatest character in gaming history. I urge anyone who hasn't tried a final fantasy to play this game. Anyone who was disappointed isn't facing the facts that this is a well built game. Its practically flawless just like the other final fantasys, the people at squaresoft are all geniuses. I say that everyone on this page should give respect top the guys because if your on this page you have been moved by a final fantasy. Anyway back to the game the friendship between the main characters is well progressed as the game goes on. Sorry but no one will beat this game and the only people who will equal it are squaresoft. It gave me some fond memories and the love between squall and rinoa still touches me after 5 years of first playing the game. Also i will say if you like final fantasy 7,8 or 9 give 10 and 10-2 a try because these are also proof that final fantasy rocks more than any other game.

Squaresoft made all of these final fantasy games for a reason and that reason was to grab people's attention! to get everyone off of one game and to move on to the next generation! i will agree with alot of what is said on this website! final fantasy 8 has better graphics than ff7 but only b/c it was released at a later date! technology had evolved since ff7 and square just wanted to keep up with the world!! the one thing about all of you "game haters" that i do not like is your sence of "pride"!! you want everyone to think the same as you and to look from only one point of view! but then there are people like me who look from both ( or more ) standpoints!! when you all get it through your heads that no one really knows which game is best and that both final fantasy 7 and final fantasy 8 are great rpg's email me and i'll let you shout out what you think!!! i'd really like to get some more reviews here!!!

The battle with ultimicia was way to easy!! in final fantasy 7 the final battle with sephiroth was much harder than the battle with the final boss (ultimicia) in 8!! on another note... ruby weapon and omega weapon... which is harder??? in final fantasy 8 there is a great strategy that you can use to defeat omega... aura, holy war, limit break, eden!!!! in final fantasy 7 there is not really a good strategy to defeating ruby weapon! unless of course you use hades and parylize him but that only lasts one to two turns! even by using kotr it takes a minimum of 45 min. to beat him!!! i defeated omega weapon in 15 min! come on people shouldnt there be harder bosses??? another thing that i think should be added to final fantasy 8 to make it better is a different plot!!! woo hoo love!!!!! there are so many other things in the world that you could have used as a plot besides love! you know from the begging of the game you know that squall (or whatever you named him) and rinoa (the princess) are going to fall in love!!!!thank you for your time! and please feel free to email me!!!!!! The gameplay was awsome the fmv sequences the graphics where incredible (for all you people who say the graphics sucks, its beacause like that other person said its a PS1!) where terrific and almost life like the game was truley original, each of the characters were really interesting and the best thing about the game is the music i think it has the best music out of all the other final fantasy games out there. Liberati Fatali(I think thats how you spell it) is a fantastic fmv its perfect for a starting mini movie. The storyline was great and was always intresting because there are many unexpected twist and surpises in the plot. There was one crappy thing in the game though it was whe I had to go looking for the white seed ship it took me forever untill i finallly found it. I was gonna buy final fantasy 9 because i thought it might be like final fantasy 8 but boy was i ever wrong. From what I've heard it sucked big time.
I saw on this tv show about video gaes that Square Soft is making a sequel to Final fantasy 7 i saw a preview for it and it was awsome but a sequel for final fantasy 8 would be much better especially if it was made for the xbox cause thats the only next generation system that i have (i wonder how many words i have now)Also the game had great GFs espcially Odin and has anybody here beaten omega weapon? if yes please tell me uless ur one of those final fantasy 8 haters.

Now, while I think it wasn't as good as Final Fantasy 7, it was still very fun to play. The junction system is a truely unique, and I happen to like it. It is tedious, however, to have to collect all those spells and draw so many times. It is a love story that I can only describe as brilliant. The personalities of the characters are well done, and their disigns are eye-candy. The limit break system was also a little out of the ordinary, because the only real way to get use them was to be low on HP. That makes it difficult beacuse chances are you will be killed if you don't heal yourself, but if you heal yourself, you won't get the limit break. The graphics are very good for the time this game was released at, but they haven't aged well. Well, even if it is rather generic, I'm going to give this game some ratings. (Many of you have rated this game unrealiastically, though.)

Now I am a guy who usually writes about games that I love but this game sucked so badly I had to warn others about it. Wow. What a sucky game. I did not think anyone could suck up a game so badly. The graphics absolutely sucked. The Characters sucked. The abilities sucked. The battle system sucked. The gameplay sucked. The storyline sucked. Woah, this game sucked. Now I do not know why they allowed Square to be on drugs while making this game but I do know one thing, a game so bad should not be allowed in this world. Now I personaly think they should have done the same thing as they did for Final Fanaty 9. That game dominated. But Final Fantasy 8 was very, very, very disappointing. My God. So for all you Final Fantasy lovers I beg you to not try this game ever, ever, ever. Or you may find yourself never playing an Final Fantasy game again. Saying once again, this game is a disgrace. Well I still have 29 words to fill so I am just gonna speak out some more about the game. I don't know why in the heck they game testers put this game past inspection. Holy crap! All the games in the world should be destroyed.
| Square has done it AGAIN!!!! | | Fer from Maywood, United States says (8/Apr/2004): | Many would say FF7 was incredible. And I agree. But Final Fantasy 8 was a great and different experience. The style was good and the gameplay made it better. I liked the leveling of the summons and the way abilities were learned. The graphics were ok...but hey, it IS Playstation 1 alright. I especially liked the characters, and the villians as well. The whole concept of fighting it out with sorceresses and relying on your summons' abilities made it a very good. I also enjoyed the soundtrack for this game. The storyline was great too, how they connected Squall and Rinoa and how Squall related to Quistis, Zell, Selphie, Irvine and his greatest oponent, Seifer. I mean, come on...it just doesn't get any better than this! Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 10 are my favorite FF games. With 9 on the far bottom of my list. But you know, those who still have doubts in their mind about playing the game, I suggest those people get up and go play the entire game for themselves. Only then, will they find out if it is good or if it sucked like hell. That's all the advice I can give. But opinion stays, 7, 8, and 10 great...9 and 10-2 sucky.

They say the Junction system was stupid. I'm sorry, but I think it could be YOU whom is stupid. The junction system has got to be the most flexible and useful system in any game (apart from maybe jobs, but there ya go...) Anyway, I'm sorry if any of you FF8 haters found it a bit to hard to get your head round.
Next up, is the story, which is also quite a common complaint. When I first heard some of the complaints made about the storyline, I laughed. How could these people be so STUPID?
This has simply got to be the best storyline ever (or something close at least)with so many twists and turns, ups and downs, something constantly moving, I find it also impossible to dislike. Again I am sorry to any FF8 haters If it was hard to get your head round. You just stick to "my little pony" and "wheres wally" instead.
Next, I will comment upon possibly the stupidest comment I have heard involving FF8. This was; "The ending was crap, It was to unhappy." I have one word to some up what I think about that: BULLSH*T(sorry, I try not to swear, but come on...) How lame can you get? just cuz the ending was an unhappy one, It doesn't make it bad. Anyway, I had best not say anymore about that, for anyone who hasn't completed the game.
Right.....I think thats about it for my moaning. Next up, I will give a one word summary of the different factors of the game:
Story:Breath-taking
Graphics:Incredible
Lifespan:Epic
Enjoyability: 100/10 (not quite one word but hey...)
All in all: Incredible,Superb,Fantastic,etc (you get the picture)
Lastly, Please, please, PLEASE dont let all those FF8 haters put you off. If you like Final Fantasys, you really should buy this game.

Then i stumbled upon a review from Sephiroth2008 (Not to single him out, there are probably many more reviews just like his). He was talking about how much ff8 sucked (I for one thought it was good, and 7 was good too), and sure I believe he has a right to voice his own opinion on why he disliked the game, because people have a right to do so. However what I don't quite understand is why he was talking about how Cloud could kick Squall's ass because he is gay and then he would piss on his body afterwards, hey man it's just a video game there is no need to go off on tangents about how one fictional character could totally kick a different fictional character's ass. Just explain to those who read your comments why you thought the game was bad, in your opinion. I remind you this is not just for Sephiroth but for those other people who make irrelevant and outlandish comments too. But with that out of the way. I do have to say I like ff8 and ff7 I have not yet played ff9 or ff10 or ff11 yet. But though I may have grown up with them I happen to like the older Final Fantasy games better that those. Like the original final fantasy for the NES with the jobs system (jobs system is awesome, and I have heard that ff10-2 uses jobs also but I also heard 10-2 was bad) and ff2 us or ff4j is also one of my favorites, especially the many different characters: i.e. Cecil(DK. Knight and Paladin), Rosa, Kain, Rydia(young and old), Edge, Palom, Porom, Tellah, Cid, FuSoYa, Yang, Edward, and I heard that it is possible to get Golbez without cheating, how exactly? No clue. then there was ff3us, ff6j with Terra what i thought was the coolest part of this game was the esper system, in my opinion that was the coolest. i could go on but i am very tired and have a expository research paper due tommorow (i was just procrastinating by doing this). I have just one more thing to say. Now i do not have a ps or a ps2 i have ff7 and 8 for computer. nut i would have to say that if square was to revamp ff2us and or ff3us and or ff1 so that they were in 3d like the current ff games, i would go out and buy a ps2 or whatever system would come out by when it will happen (i doubt it will) just for the purpose of playing one of those old ff games in the current style i do not care how much money it would cost me because in my opinion that is the extent that my gaming experience needs to reach. i get that and i won't need video games anymore ( i am probably exxagerating but i am too tired to care). all i am saying is that that would be awesome. in fact i am going to go play ff2 right now. after i finish my paper. so what-ever-your-name-is guy from earlier do whatever you want i dont even remember my actual message. oh yeah sure i could go READ IT but there is a problem, i am lazy and typing with only one finger, so therefore i am not going to do whatever i said earlier might solve my problem because of stuff i already said. i think. anyway i do not care so good night america.
| THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Squall from Michigan says (10/Mar/2004): | Who ever thinks ff VIII sucks can go F*** themselves. yes ff VII was great but there is no compairison. ff VIII is the best. I loved all of the characters (even though some of them were weaker than others). The graphics were awsome. Everyone who says the plot was stupid all total idioits it was great, if there was a book about it I would totaly read it. I totaly loved the junction systom and the battles. The music isn't something i would usualy listen to but it was alright. The lifespan was great I have beaten it all of the way through six times. whoever listens to that idioit that says that nine was better the eight don't. I got nine it was alright but it got boring. If you are looking for another great final fantasy game go for ff II it might be hard to find these days but I relly enjoyed it. Back to eight the only part that got me bored was going back as langua. He's cool ,but that part of the game got me bored. Plus his whole story about raine was sad. :( I think if that they would have kille Dr. Odine alot could have been prevented. The end boss was fun but not relly that hard to beat, but if were talking about that in ff VII I was just getting started and seporoth was dead big disappointment.
ff IX was so short each disk only takes about a day. :p on that note ff VIII is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the graphics are excellent, the plot is awesome, etc. My favorite part is the characters! they all are unique and they're very detailed so they could pass as a real person. Now i've played tons of games in my life, i've been a serious gamer since i was like 5, but i didn't start serious gaming until 9. I'd get a game, and beat it in either 2 to 4 months. But i night i decided to play a demo to ff8, and i couldn't beat it. i was like, woah! this is harder than i thought. 2 days later i beat it, but it turned out to be my favorite video game. so i got and it still haven't beat it. It's awesome, because i'm so abosered in the game i feel like i'm in a real battle everytime 1 comes up. The 1st time i had to battle the sorceress i actually got nervous. Another thing that's cool is that some of the characters act like me, and people i know. My 2 best friends act like Squall and Selphie, i act like Zell. I know i good- GREAT game when i play one. No offense to all those people out there that like to post complaints but comeon! People come to this website to read the good qualties of the game.(which is everything) not why it stinks. Maybe someone's about to buy it, but they read complaints, and decide not to, which means they're missing out on a really good game. but like i said, no offense. Anyways, i loved when they introduce a character, they'd get the best graphics. Espically Zell's. they also do a great job with the G.F's. when they 1st summoned Quezacotl it looks magnificent. Iftrit looks truly ferocious/awesome. i think those 2's attacks are AWESOME. they are heavily detailed. i love the weapons too. They are wicked cool. i love the metal knuckles and the gunblade. Magic;s also really cool, but not as powerful as some attacks. i also like the dragons. The limit breaks also awesome. Another reason i love this game is because i'm planning on becoming a soldier when i'm old enough. i think there's just as much action in this game and enough lessons to show me some army stuff until than. well before i go, i wanna say THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER AND I RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS A GOOD GAME/CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

final fantasy 8 is one of the best games ever made anyone who thinks this game sucks obviously dose'nt have the brain to comprehend such an awsome game! their itty bitty brain is so totally out of ORDER!!!
now for those who havent played the game yet let me tell u if u have a brain and u know how to use it u WILL love this Game !!!!
its Graphics ROCKs! the game play is really good and the music is just a total givin its the best right with the story lines wich are just so great!
its a real game for real game players not the average gamer like those pin heads who only gave the game 1 star!!
thats outrageous they have no idea what they are missing out on ! oh well their loss dont ya think?

I mean how thick can U get. ff8 is all about stratagy and their all just saying it's rubish because they're are so bad at gaming they can't figure out how to use each characters battle section ther're more useful in (e.g selfie,magic and healing)to they're advantage that they just start to complain and whine about other things like the graphics and juctioning being bad so they dont think they're rubbish.I mean look at the graphics sure they're not amazing but they're bloody good considering this is a ps1 game and looking at what year it was made in. junctioning sure its hard to get use to but once you know how to use it it is very helpful. the limit breaks and weapons are awsome and those of u that think ff7 is better than ff8 then ur not true gamersand deserve to be striped of your console for wasting time on it because FF8 F**K**G WELL KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! those who agree with me please email me and those who don't can as well and u can tell me ur problem with it and this is just for u Cloud Strife from Toronto Canada hope u hate it:
