Best game ever ( cept FFVII ) | | A gamer from England says (30/May/2002): | The game is really good in all ways because it has a really good plot, hundreds of side quests like the deep sea research center and the shumi village, total control of your characters abilitys and GF's equipped and loads of wicked animation that looks cool.
The best bit of playing it is the battles, especially the bosses because they take a bit of skill to beat apart from when your in Ultemecia's castle when you cant use magic or save.
The only thing i cant do is get to the bottom of the deep sea research center to fight the Ultima Weapon and draw eden because you first have to get Bahaumt and then fight about a hundred ruby dragons which is solid when your partys at lv100.
overall, I would say for anyone to get it who likes long challenging games that take a bit of time and doesnt take it back if they dont like the first five minutes.
The only game better by just a bit is final fantasy seven which is better because you can use materia.

My all time FAV. is 8 I can play this game none stop never get bored.only when I got to go to the bathroom. my favorite GF "Gardian Force" is Bahamut. I loved how they made em come out like that. Juctioning is very EZ to under stand."to me" just follow what they say. I liked the fighting style they hade for these games ff7 vs ff8. magic uses: hmmm I can say that they both have very good ways of use. stories of both games are very very very good. I loved final fantasy games, ALLL of them. I hope they never quit making these games. I hope they make a movie of ff8 like they did ff7 that movie is ASOME, just needed a little more magic use in it. now for all you guys n girls out there that don't like this game just fined some thing in it you like and stop complaing about it. Final Fantasy games rock! any one that don't like these games might not have played them. so im asking the ones who have not played these games to please grab a coppie sit down and play read undestand the game then tell what you like about it and don't just sit there n say that game looks stupid. take my word for it they are some pretty great games.
| BEST GAME EVER?! | | Irvine from Lehigh Acres, FL says (11/Jan/2003): | Ive played this game twice now, and amazingly never been able to beat it! Thats what i look for in a game, yes when Final Fantasy 7 came into stores i got it, and played it, beat it, played it again... and... beat it. I got 8 hoping the story was just as great as 7, but also hoping it would be HARD TO BEAT! I guess my wish came true, im tired of Playing games that have been said to take like... 30 hours to beat. On 7 i had my strongest charector, Cloud lvl 71 and beat Sephiroth at 6 in the morning, barely even awake, never having to cure myself, and not getting Omnislash from The Golden Saucer battle arena! On 8 i made no mistakes, i have the Lion Heart, all my people LVL 100(including the charectors which arent on my team) and the only thing i didnt do, is get save from inside her castle, i have ALL gf's except Doomtrain, and dont even use them ( Bahamut sometimes) I GUESS THATS WHY I HAVENT BEAT IT EH... I RELY ON SQUALL AND IRVINE'S LIMIT BREAKS, lION HEART. i use Aura, and then within 1 or 2 limits the enemy is dead. 8 is the only FF game i havent beat, and i love that of it, even though losing to Ultimicia sucks, after the 500th try any way.

I mean, honestly, the big plot twist nearish the end (as retarded and unlikely as it was), was EXPLAINED AWAY WITH A SINGLE LINE OF TEXT. Seriously! This game is like playing a bad episode of Star Trek.
Leveling up GF's is Far Far Far Far Far too easy, and the rewards are pointless, and as for the never ending limit breaks.. thats just lame. Zell is the only saving grace for this game, but that might just be coming from my unhealthy obsession with Sabin from ff3.
honestly i'd rather poke out my eye and shove my thumb in my brain than play ff8.
I gave it a 3 only for these reasons:
1. Squall CONTINOUSLY gets the $#< remove me > at ! kicked out of him
2. Zell was an awesome throwback to sabin's blitz's
3. Blood in the opening cg.
Final fantasy 7 was head and shoulders above 8. Hands Down, there is no comparison. Every aspect of 7 was great! the storyline, characters, side quests, mini-games.. everything!

| Square has done it AGAIN!!!! | | Fer from Maywood, United States says (8/Apr/2004): | Many would say FF7 was incredible. And I agree. But Final Fantasy 8 was a great and different experience. The style was good and the gameplay made it better. I liked the leveling of the summons and the way abilities were learned. The graphics were ok...but hey, it IS Playstation 1 alright. I especially liked the characters, and the villians as well. The whole concept of fighting it out with sorceresses and relying on your summons' abilities made it a very good. I also enjoyed the soundtrack for this game. The storyline was great too, how they connected Squall and Rinoa and how Squall related to Quistis, Zell, Selphie, Irvine and his greatest oponent, Seifer. I mean, come on...it just doesn't get any better than this! Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 10 are my favorite FF games. With 9 on the far bottom of my list. But you know, those who still have doubts in their mind about playing the game, I suggest those people get up and go play the entire game for themselves. Only then, will they find out if it is good or if it sucked like hell. That's all the advice I can give. But opinion stays, 7, 8, and 10 great...9 and 10-2 sucky.

Graphics ( 10/10 ) Fantastic graphics, way better than FF7 will ever be. At least in FF8 peoples arms don't pop out of the backs like in FF7.
Battles ( 4/10 ) The battles are just the same as any other Final Fantasy.
CG Cinematics ( 11/10 ) Awesome Cg's! These are the best parts of ANY game!
But then there's the storyline . . . . . . ( 0/10 )
The storyline sucks. What kind of people would FORGET that they all went to the same orphanage and would FORGET that the enemy was their matron? Whu would GFs make you forget stuff? What is wrong with these people? Whoever wrote the storyline of this game was either really lazy or really stupid.
Then we have sound ( 8/10 ) The sound got really repetitive.
Gameplay ( Errr . . . it's okay, 7/10 )
Lifespan ( It got good until the screw up in the stroyline 5/10 )

To those who don't, Tsk Tsk. Those that can't beat the game just need a little patience and effort, but since they want to convince themselves that FF7 is the best, they put their controller down and grumble and complain about it.
To all the people who say the Junction systems sucks, it's probably because you don't like to think and use simple strategy. Honestly. And the storyline is perhaps one of the deepest ones ever, as the characters are not the same cliche' personalities. The characters have a unique backgrounds not like those in ordinary games. And besides, I don't even like that girl in FF7, whats-her-face, that girl who was so pathetic and died in the end. FF8 is so much better than FF7. I'm not exactly dissing FF7, it's still pretty good, but I don't honestly understand why people love it.It's not THAT great. Come on, I like FFX better than FF7. But honestly, all FFs are good and you shouldn't go insulting the storylines since I doubt you can make one that's as good as an FF story so there.

Now I am a guy who usually writes about games that I love but this game sucked so badly I had to warn others about it. Wow. What a sucky game. I did not think anyone could suck up a game so badly. The graphics absolutely sucked. The Characters sucked. The abilities sucked. The battle system sucked. The gameplay sucked. The storyline sucked. Woah, this game sucked. Now I do not know why they allowed Square to be on drugs while making this game but I do know one thing, a game so bad should not be allowed in this world. Now I personaly think they should have done the same thing as they did for Final Fanaty 9. That game dominated. But Final Fantasy 8 was very, very, very disappointing. My God. So for all you Final Fantasy lovers I beg you to not try this game ever, ever, ever. Or you may find yourself never playing an Final Fantasy game again. Saying once again, this game is a disgrace. Well I still have 29 words to fill so I am just gonna speak out some more about the game. I don't know why in the heck they game testers put this game past inspection. Holy crap! As a fan of the series I would have to rate this as my second favorite game, behind only by the gift from god Final Fanatsy 7, and the ending is second only to Final Fantasy 10's. FF8 has a great storyline although it is lacking at times.I really didn't care for the prison escape to much, among few other scenes.I didn't really believe the games story didn't pick up the pace up til' the assassination mission begins on disk one. I really liked how the pulled off the love story between Squall and Rinoa, they did a very good job in this aspect.Nobou Uemetsu's tracks of Liberi Fatali and Eyes on Me are two of my favorite tracks in the entire series, the only one I like more is One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7. The CG cutscenes was some of the best ever seen for its time, also some of the most memorable. Then one of the best parts of the game is the ending sequence, the whole thing being set to Eyes on Me is great and I'm not afraid to admit it but it almost made me cry.This game is a must have to all Final Fantasy Fans.
| Final Fantasy kicks ass! | | Grant from England says (5/Apr/2003): | I luv the story line and im playing it now, i like the idea of the junctioning, it is a little confusing at first but then i got the hang of it. It's Mini games are crap but the actual fighting is good, i like the idea of you being drawn to scale so your tall and not 3 foot. I havent Completed it yet but im nearly there, im on the third disk. The junctioning is easy, the graphics are brilliant, i would say it was better than ff7, i think they should make a sequel to it, the only thing is that the story line can be stupid at times, like when squall got killed by edea, and then wakes up in garden ect. I think they went a bit over the top with the gf's, you need them to do everything. I like the idea of rinoas dog, it can help u in battle, and i like the idea that squall and rinoa get off in space! I think it is a brilliant game, its easy to level up, right now im level 79 and my health is 9999 thanks to some quick junctioning. I luv this game ive already seen the ending so i spoilt it really but i dont care, at least i can say ive completed one of the best games ever!

The music was interesting to start with, but after a while you'll probably wanna press the mute button. the weapons are sick, but not till you get further into the game (squall's are so wicked by the end!). the limit breaks are cool, except for irvines, but then again, i just don't like him. Oh, god wonder how many people are gonna kick my ass for saying that?! lol, scary. so yeah, overall, awesome game, great buy, y'all are probably gonna ignore this, but i got nothing to do, so whatever. oh god, need chocolate... haha, i hit 200 words, i hope, ok not yet, umm, just ignore that, slightly hyperactive, not my fault. awesome game.
| THIS IS THE MOST CHALLENGING AND OVERALL EBGROSSING GAME THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED!!! | | Tiffany Martinez from Sparks,Nevada Usa says (8/Jul/2003): | those of you that have never played this game are completely missing out!The graphics are awesome and the short moives completely tie in with the game.The draw syatem I find is the best,simply because in the other games each player can only have certain magic and ususaly I only use one or two of them for common battles,but in ff8 whoever or all can have powerful spells like ultima and moeter.And the way the gfs are mixed in the with the game I find is just great,you have to draw fight solve puzzels and the fact that they are extremwly important to your game because if you don't have at least one junction with some magic then you'll have a tough time.Oh and just to tell you I've every ps final fantasy several times(except 10 way too simple for me!)I've played ff8 the most(going on 8xs) and I still love it and want to play it again and again!One last point the R1 tringer makes the battles less well boring and simple.Oh and the relationships in the game is what got me hooked and I think the next final fantasy should follow 8 more.

Now, while I think it wasn't as good as Final Fantasy 7, it was still very fun to play. The junction system is a truely unique, and I happen to like it. It is tedious, however, to have to collect all those spells and draw so many times. It is a love story that I can only describe as brilliant. The personalities of the characters are well done, and their disigns are eye-candy. The limit break system was also a little out of the ordinary, because the only real way to get use them was to be low on HP. That makes it difficult beacuse chances are you will be killed if you don't heal yourself, but if you heal yourself, you won't get the limit break. The graphics are very good for the time this game was released at, but they haven't aged well. Well, even if it is rather generic, I'm going to give this game some ratings. (Many of you have rated this game unrealiastically, though.)

This game is far superior than to FF9. FF9 was a complete let-down. I am currently playing FF10 which is not bad, but FF8 is still a little better, despite FF10's extraordinary graphics and the "switch system", and your aeons or GFs fight with you. The characters and the plot is where FF8 rules. Tidus is a complete sissy when compared to Squall. Well Tidus is already a sissy to begin with. Can you believe they made a FF10 sequel?? If anything they should make a FF8 sequel, clearly more people like it, sooo why not make one? Fan Fics are totally cheesy (no offense to those who write them) but at least those people are trying! Squaresoft should take this idea of an FF8 sequel into consideration. It would sell big even to those who did not like the game, but will buy it or rent it just to check it out. FF8 rocks!

The story, the love scene, the characters (Zell... I LOVE your style, men!), the secret GFs (the thing that makes me MAD, because Ican't get all of the GF, altough i have played it for five times!!!). It's perfect!!! Untill now, I have been finishing this game for 5 times, and has a plan to finish for another five times! But maybe, the thing that was kinda dissapointing is the ending is not so good. I mean, it's just showing the characters when they had defeated Ultimecia, not their final ending (But actually, the ending was very touchy... I almoust cried!!!). But I wish Rinoa could marry Squall... I don't care what people said about this game, but I surely said that this is one of the best game that was made by Square. I just wish that Square will make a movie of it, like what they had just done with FF VII. Zell--Zell

After watching some one show me how to play i got addicted to the game. I could not stop playing it when i got it my self. The thing that maid me like this game the most is that it is a actual challenge. It took me 7 days to get to the final boss but when she transforms into the gf i get a whooping. That is really i got addicted to it. I kinda winged until then but then i went back and got all the gfs i could, and the amazing Final weapon for each person. It was hard but really fun cause i got to max out all the gfs levels. They also have all the elements which is pretty awesome and unlike 9 they dont make up magic that really does not make sense. The thing i hate about the game is trying to get to the ultimate weapon every step i take i get into a fight and it takes to long so i just turned the game off.
Overall rating: BEST GAME EVER
| Plain and Simple FF7 fans | | A gamer from U.S.A says (4/Jan/2004): | im tired of everyone bad mouthing FF8.i don't know why everyone is fighting about which game is better when they all know that FF8 was the best. they're just not going to admit it. i mean FF7 was so lame and didn't even have a point. and FF9 sucked as well. thats why i didn't even waste my money on them. i borrowed them 1) because i had nothing better to do. 2) because i thought they would be at least a little fun. I WAS WROUNG. and 3)was because i had heard all kinds of good things,what i think is crap now, that the games were worth playing.i had almost lost hope for the final fantasy series until FFX came out. plain and simple FF7 fans if you think that junctioning is "dumb" and the only problem with the game your having is that you can't junction then maybe video games just aren't your thing. try channel surfing if thats not to hard for you.if you think that Your FF7 is better then FF8 then email why i love to hear you lie about what you really think.
