The Best Game Ever! |
| A gamer from houston, TX /united states says (24/Aug/2003): |
I liked the game so much! The graphics were very good, the cut scenes were awsome, the gameplay was so realistic, and the characters were cool. The junctioning stuff was very easy to understand. I think it was a lot better than Final Fantasy IX and X. I would like to thank squaresoft for making such a great game!!!!!!!

Was good but not that good!! |
| Chris from England says (23/Aug/2003): |
To be honest i did like this game to some extent but it cannot be compared to the legendary FF7 which in my opinion is the best game of all time.
FF8 had even amounts of good and bad qualities which isn't good to have in a game. One of the qualities i liked about this game is the card game system - between the FF8 card game and the FF9 card game i would chose the FF8 version because it is a hell of a lot more simple although it takes hours sumtimes to get the cards u want lol. The FF9 card game took me ages to understand the workings of it. anyway other qualities i like were the magic system where u could equip magics to increase your stats.
Bad qualities of this game where the fact that your allies followed in a line that was just plain stupidity because it looks sad and does not follow a trend of any of the previous games in the series. The weapons were another letdown for the game. It could take you hours to find the items u wanted to upgrade your weapons (in total i think i spent about 10 hours searching for items i needed)
the CG were good but the visual surrounds of the main game were poor. FF7 surrounds where alot more detailed and a lot better quality allthough the characters werent as good in FF7.
Over all I think this is a good game and i would recomened playing it.

I really didn't like this game as much as 7 and the others |
| John from Bonney Lake,Washington, USA says (22/Aug/2003): |
Among the many things I hated about Final Fantasy VIII, there are some things that were unique and good about it. First was, to all of us around 12 or that area, this would have most likely been the first time you were introduced to the card game, though my first time through the game I really didn't get it but it was fun and I hope they'll keep using it in FF10 and up. The other thing I liked was that you could teach your summons skills and the fact that they leveled up as you did, and that it only takes 1000exp to level up. I hate that you only get to have 6 weapons in the whole game, that bothered me as I don't like taking time to sit for hours upon hours running all over dungeon to try and find the piece you need to complete you weapon. And on Squalls weapons there were a few that were exactly the same except the blade was turned differently and that the gun part might have changed a little bit, but only the revolver and the Lion Heart have any major differences. Another thing that I didn't like was the limit system. Unless using aura you have to get beat up to use it. and I was never good at the trigger attacks either so the limit break was almost usless to mee until I finally got the Lion Heart , witch I will admit was the coolest attack!

BEST GAME EVER!!! |
| Lunch box from B.C.,Can. says (21/Aug/2003): |
Personaly I think that ff8 was the all-time best final fantasy, if not in the world! I realy surprized that alot of people didn't like it! As a huge final fantsy fan I must say that ff8 is even beter than the ones that came afyer it (mainly ff9)

A feast for the senses! |
| Ginger from Cape Town says (19/Aug/2003): |
As someone that has followed the FF series I was hoping that this game would be something remarkable, I was not dissapointed! Using a style of story that has never failed, the loner who coes to apprectiate his fellow peers, we are thrown into a world where reality and fantasy combin to create a cacophany for the senses. The new junction style that deals with the magic attack/defence of each character and the equaly individual abilities of the GF's make for a moe controled game that, to me, surpasses its predesesors in every way. Final Fantasy Eight will become an obsession, even after the game is finished; due to the amount of sub-quests, that will change the way you look at the gaming experience.

best game ever |
| A gamer from Modesto(CA) USA says (18/Aug/2003): |

This is the best playstation game ever!!!!! |
| me!!!! from England (you no that small island) says (14/Aug/2003): |
This game is the best ever it rocks, everyone who says it is crap are either stupid f***ers or they havnt played it! it was excellent, the GFs were ace, the characters were, the story, magic.... i could go on for ages. I used to think final fantasy games sucked but now i no this is the only good one, ive played on 5, 6, 7 9 and 10 and they're all crap compared to this one.The ending scene is hilarious when Zell chokes on a hotdog. ha ha ha ha. The bosses are all fun cus i kicked all theyre ass's. Diablo is easier to defeat on a low level because as you level up, so does he. Eden is the best GF. use boost and you can do over 20,000 damage to enemies with him. its also very easy to get full boost as the video for his move is about 3 minutes long, very handy. I would suggest everyone buys this game!!! 10/10

I didn't like it! |
| A gamer from Panama City, USA says (11/Aug/2003): |
It was a disgrace to the FF series. The characters bit and the story was dumb. The battle system was messed up. It's graphics were the worse that i have ever seen. Thats the reason it didnt bring much money in for square like ff7 or ff10. FF7 was there best seller and nothing can top it. They tryed to overdo it with 8 and they failed. IT BIT! end of story

best playstation game i've ever played |
| A gamer from nameless, USA says (11/Aug/2003): |
this game is the best ive played and the graphics are realy good for a playstation game and i was in band and i realy liked the music it always got me pumped right by the end of a mission or something like that. this game is realy long and is action packed the junction system is probably the most confusing thing about the game but after a couple of hours playing the game you start to understand it the gf's are my favorite part of the game and it is realy cool that you can chose them to learn stuff like boost and the gf movies are realy cool i liked the brothers gf movie because it was funny how they played paper rock scissors. the side quests of the game are realy fun like the chocobos and the card queen side quests over all i think the game is unserpassed by all other final fantasies except final fantasy 10.

Best RPG game yet !!!!!!!!!! |
| william sylvester from port talbot wales says (11/Aug/2003): |
FF8 is the best game i have actually played on PS, coz there is none like it. It's a story u take control of and it has cool movie bitsfor a PS. But the disadvantage about the game is that sometimes u have no idea of where to go or do and that can put off the player. IT REALLY ANNOYING!!!
|
THE BEST!!! |
| Quistis Trepe from New york says (10/Aug/2003): |
I would have to say that final fantasy 8 was the best ever! I have played all the final fantasy games and i am addicted to ff8! I have probably played more then 2 dozen times! I absoulutly love the game. The music was just-just fantastic!!! Eyes on me was a great song. Th characters were very nice. Th story plot was okay...i mean it mainly focused on squall and rinoa and left the others out which i thought was very dissapointing since i had grown very attatched to Quistis. The ending was well worth the wait..I loved this game the short movies were wonderful I only wish they had voice overs if they make it into a ps2 game, they better put in voiceovers...And i hope they release ff8 gaiden..they didnt want to realease it ...i dunno why...The music was wonderful i hope they put quistis into kingdom hearts 2
other then my complaints, THIS GAME WAS AWSOME! it's a game you won't waste your money on

FF8 A stunning, complex, deep, challenging and varied game |
| Rik with no see from Bath, England says (7/Aug/2003): |
When i got my playstation 3 years ago I was surprised by the different type of games available. FF7 was my first RPG experience. I got stuck on it and gave it up. I then bought FF8. I was impressed by the brilliant integration between the actual game-play and cutseen videos. The beginning of the game gripped me, even though it was not highly entertaining. A lot of cutseens full of eye candy kept me glued to the screen. I became so addicted to the game, that I played it throughout one summer holiday every day. When i got the third disc, perhaps the most boring in terms of storyline but best in terms of general entertainment, and it gave me the chance to whield some fancy weapons around the world against some fancy monsters, all of which became increased fun when travelling in the Ragnorak, the flying ship that i aquired. My Third disc became scratched however, and i actually went out and bought another copy of the game, as so i could continue. I never explored the full potential of the game, i completed it yes, but i never fully got the full experience, for instance i never aquired all the GF's, i was missing four or five when i came to fight Ultimecea. I never aquired all the cards either. However the game was incredible and i wish i had used a guide, not to complete it, but to complete it 100% as the game deserves that level of your attention to detail. Oh yes, the brilliant little extra the game has, the OMEGA weapon, i have never beaten it, in Ultimecea's Castle, it is a brilliant extra which apitimises FF8, there is the normal game, and yes it is not easy but not impossibly hard to complete, and then there is all the extras the game holds, the card championships, the OMEGA weapon (which is harder then Ultimecea) and collecting the GF's ect, to beat these tasks, is hard, challenging but fun and usually hidden! Its an amazing game, ive completed FF9 as well, but FF8 was my favourite, and the cutseen at the end of FF8 is longer then 9 so that tips the balance, well worked, no glitches, great graphics, amazingly complex and deep plot, varied paces and all around an incredible game from Square once again.
If you havent got it still, go get it, even today it is good, but i was gonna go back and do it again but i was so demorilised when i saw how poor your characters are at the start compared to the finish i dispaired! and carried on at the OMEGA weapon. Happy gaming!

AMAZING |
| Katrina from Ontario, Canada says (6/Aug/2003): |
As a teenager naturally i'm a video game fanatic, i've always played adventure games, but when i was introduced to final fantasy on the super nintendo (final fantasy mystic quest) i knew that when i got playstation that i would continue to be hooked! Final fantasy is just great i love the FMV's it's my favourite part and it just seems so real! parts i don't like are the battle system it can get confusing and u need to play the game time and time again to get it right! This final fantasy is so unique compared to the past ones...a totally different story line and fun for everyone! It has all the best qualities for all different ppl, love, fantasy, battle, it's overall fantastic!
|
WOW awesome game |
| kai nee from USA says (6/Aug/2003): |
Although this is one of the hardest final fantasy games in my opinion it was also one of the best, not only did it have an amazing story, music and graphics it was for the most part never really boring. The only thing i regret is beating it too quickly. The ending is also worth it, it is probibly the best ending I have ever seen. buy it and you will see yourself

the worst final fantasy game ive ever played!!!!! |
| A gamer from new york, usa says (3/Aug/2003): |
this game is stupid. thats the only way to put it. ff7 is way way way better, this game is so corny i could die. the "gf's" stink and you can fight the end guy way early in the game. nintendo games are better!!! sure the graphics are great but who cares. the plot is auful. who came up with these names any way. its a final fantasy seven wanna be. its confusing you play with like two to three different people.
|
One Word...AMAZING |
| anal|rape from Glasgow says (3/Aug/2003): |
What can i say, squaresoft have done it again...ALthough the graphics are a lot better in this game compared to FF-VII it lacked some points. The plot in FF-VII was a lot better. And trying to work out the junction system was hard. But apart from the junction system the game was pretty good...must have for everyone...

Best game ever made for PlayStation |
| Steve Bivens from Indiana, PA USA says (30/Jul/2003): |
So far it's great! I just started playing, and I already love the game! It has to be my one of my favorite games if not my favorite game! One bad thing is that you have to have a stategy guide or you'll never beat the game. This game has really good graphics. It feels like I'm in the game while I'm playing it.

Great game but far to easy |
| Steve from Chicago says (29/Jul/2003): |
This was the first RPG game I have ever played and I loved and hated parts of it. The things I loved were the character dynamics the time shifting story lines and the great character to character relations that developed throughput the games vast story. I also had alot of fun with the card game portion of the game the constantly changing rules and huge number of cards made mastering the card game the hardest part of the game. Which of course brings me to FF VIII downside, the game was just to damn simple. Just level and collect high magic and you could dominate every portion of the battles in the game even the final battle was easy. I was looking for more of a challenge but I never really found it I suspect it maybe partially because of my desire to play the game in depth and explore all the options the game had to offer as far as weapons, magic, and items. If the game had been a bit more challenging I think that I would have had alot more fun with it. I also thought the leveling system was simple as opposed to the more complex system of FF IX. However this was an awsome game I enjoyed playing it and couldn't stop playing it until I reached the end. All in all a great game with a few small glitches.
