greatest racing game on the planet!!!!!! |
| Toby Halicki from Newnan, GA, USA#1 says (17/Sep/2002): |
GT 2 is quite truly the very best racing game ever. After I played it on a friend's PSone, I went out and bought a memory card to save my cars and setup--even before I had bought my own PSone! When i finally had my own system, I began to explore the limits of the game until I had won every single gold medal on every single race--simulation and arcade mode. One of the best things I did was win the Escudo(best overall car of the game). When you're drivin' the Escudo, nothing even comes close! Well, did I quit after I had conquered--oh no. One of the greatest things about GT2 is the wide variety of new & used cars. If you the big money races, you get an expensive trophy car which you can then sell to build up your GT2 empire. I had long since been forced to start "weeding out" my stable since I had reached the limit of 100cars and my cash was knocking on 2 Million when I decided to see what the GameShark-lite had to offer. It didn't seem like it was going to be worth the money when I first installed it, but then I noticed some strange affects it had on some of my cars. I own a Nissan 180 drag car; the GS lite made the little Nissan handle VERY strangely. When you nail the throttle, the car does a wheelstand 1st gear, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th--also very hard to drive. Also, my Spoon Civic will not turn--at all. If you try to steer, the car simply slides to the side of the screen--very disconcerting since I really love my Spoon. One other benefit of the GS-Lite is unlimited money-now my cash is more than I can count--and more than you can spend. You also get all the licenses-mostly all gold trophies. If you decide to go back and get gold on the ones GS lite had bronze in, you can win a Spoon S-2000. I now have 200 cars(2 memory cards-about to start 3rd)among which are all the special versions, the other cars are race versions(where available) and all are tricked out to the max- every option on every car. You ask, "When will it stop?" never! I am more excited about GT2 now than ever. Sure GT3 has better graphics and stuff , but give me the GT3 graphics with the GT2 selection of cars. GT2 is the standard by which all other racing games are measured. PERIOD

gran turismo 2 |
| kasey jones from carrollton ohio, usa says (12/Dec/2002): |
never has there been a simulation game that has ever offered the variety and diversity of cars, never has there been a game that offers so many cars, so many options, and so many modifacations. i have played almost every racing game ever put out. on almost every console, and there is never, and will never be anything close. not even gt3, what it makes up in graphics it looses in the ability to buy used cars, and isnt that what gran turismo is about? the ability to buy a ten thousand dollar car and make it go 200 mph? in every day life people drive honda civics and deck them out with turbos and intercoolers and stuff, in gran turismo i have gone through at least ten civics, all of witch have at least 300hp. i love the fact that every car is so true to life. supras and skylines do have 270-280 hp in real life. but the prices are kinda high in some places, actually there kinda low in others now that i think about it. the prices of mods are kinda high too. 74000 for a number four turbo upgrade? and why cant you put old rims back on your car? you seem to loose them when you buy new ones, oh well. it seems to me that if it had a few more tracks. and a slightly larger selection of mods, and a few more cars (theres only one eclipse and two camaros) and if it had a couple of ferarris and bugattis and lamborghinis it would be perfect. the only thing i have seen to come even close is tokyo extreme racer zero on ps2. if you dont already have it its 20, and its very good, the point is, if you like cars. buy gt2, if you want to buy a own a viper and dont have 45000, buy gt2. its the closest thing to actually having the car. my baby '99 nissan skyline R34 GTR V-spec, twin turbo AWD, 774 hp. the escudo gets boring after a while, who needs to go 240 mph huh? at least the toyota GT-one is only rear wheel drive, so at least it is somewhat of a challenge, anyone know of a car that will beat my GTR? tell me, excluding the escudo and the GT-one.

Make no mistake, Gran Turismo has returned! |
| Bjorn van Steen from Roosendaal, Holland says (19/Sep/2000): |
How do you improve upon perfection you ask..well,let me just start by saying that Gran Turismo2 more than lives up to the pre-release hype.Once again the graphics are excellent (especially those found in the replay option!)so is the killer-soundtrack for that matter!
Knowing that the first game mostly boasts Japanese cars, European fans in particular will be happy to know that most of their favorite European cars are included in this second installment! So are some American (muscle)cars for that matter!
Another improvement concerns the actual driving-physics.Experienced Gran Turismo1 players will notice these changes instantly! Especially frontwheel-drive cars now handle in a much more realistic manner.Hitting your brakes too late results in severe understeer (much more so than in GT1 !)
OK so there are more cars (590+) and the driving-physics have improved, but does that make GT2 the PERFECT racing-game, well... no,not exactly.
Like in the first game it is still possible to " easily" win races by ramming into other cars and walls.OK so there IS a damage (not visible!) option this time, but this isn't enough to
completely exclude this cheap way of winning races.A good example of collision-physics are those found in the racing-games TOCA 2 and ColinMcRae rally2.In these games you'll think twice before you start hitting walls or other competitors because most of the time you'll end up spinning of the track and thus losing the race!! Due to this fact these games provide more of an adrenaline-rush than GT2 does!
My conclusion : If you love the idea of driving fast in
a wide variety of the worlds' fastest most expensive cars (which you can make even faster by tuning them to the max!)you should go out and buy GT2 instantly!! If you are looking for a genuine
RACING experience however, you should opt for either TOCA 2 or Colin McRae rally2

the most realistic racing game available ever!! |
| karl clohessy from north-west england says (26/Mar/2002): |
Gran Turismo 2 has shocked the world by outdoing the original gran turismo by miles. It has left me thinking about cars in a whole new way, the graphics are so realistic and clear that the cars look so real and life-like, the sound is amazing, but theres one song that puts me off when im racing, its that one where that women is singing edgy cadilllac, it is boring and stupid that song is. The lifespan of this game is outmatched with over 600 cars and 33 companies to choose from, simply amazing, the vector M12 car looks amazing and i suggest that you consider buying one on the game. The cars on this game will blow your mind and leave you in pieces with the excitement that this game provides. A high octane thriller-ride of a game that i think everyone on the face of gods green earth should experience as it is the greatest game available for the king of consoles playstation. I kid you not my frends, but this game and you will not be dissapointed one tiny bit at all, i bought it for a laugh thinking that it would get a good selling price for my frend to buy but i suddenly got hooked on it and i can never put it down,im on it all nite and day because it is so addictive and fun, if you absouloutly love cars then this game will make you the happiest man or woman on this earth. Nice goin Gran Turismo 2 !!

Advice on what Cars and races to Do |
| BeeF from Edmonton, Canada says (20/Mar/2004): |
Allo, here are some of the best cars (i think) that do VERY well, At all times try to buy a used verson of the car u want, much cheaper and usually better. I found the Toyota Cellica a good first car (used). I then bought a Mazda RX-7 (this car is alright, it is a FR car so it can spin out easily). One of the best all around car is the Lancer IV Evolution, it has really good acceralation, a good top speed, and not bad turning if u supe it up (the Subaru Imprez STi is about the same as the Lancer). When your earn 2,000,000 credits BUY a Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peaks Verson(it has a horse power of over 900) this car is So worth buying with excelent acceralation, beautiful top speed, and awesome turning. Another Good car for 591 Horse Power races is the Audi S4, supe it up to 588 Hp and upgarde everyting else (i even gave it the Racing paint job) it is a 4WD so it hugs the road, giving the advantage on turns. Also The Nissan Skyline is a very good choice when buying (i own like 7 diff versons of the skyline).
P.S I have been playin for only 360 GT2 days and own 37 cars, have 62% of the game done and have 7,000,000 credits (altogether in cars and stuff i have had 17,000,000 credits). I dont play all that much either like mabye and 1 hour 1/2 a day

Realistic |
| Roman from Calif says (7/Nov/2003): |
Real life racing, adrenalin in your blood, and the power of speed. GT2 was the best game I had ever played. All the cars, and I mean all. Some fast, some fancy, and some are just some. So many tune-up options, so many possibilities. I have played this game for four years, creating newer ways of entertainment. I passed it on the first year with 100 fully rigged up cars in my garage toped with 43 million. It is so cool! The sound is just astonishing, with all of the real-life squeaking and crashing. Its design provokes wonder and excitement. All of the controls perfectly correspond to their functions. The fun from the inexplicable adrenalin rush wakes up that sleeping giant of speed inside every person. I am so happy I purchased it. It contributes to the racing minds of today. All of the cars featured in GT2 look exactly like in real life, and if you have a mind of a racer this is a game for you. It is your chance to experience the true feeling of extreme racing in all styles and weather conditions. The only thing that barely disappointed me was the graphics. Almost, almost enough to go to heaven! Oh, the perfect game for any person with that special feel of rush.

Grand Turismo 2 is not only the best racing game ever, but the best game on the shelves for Play Station. |
| Qays Allouzi from Dallas,Texas,USA says (22/Mar/2002): |
Grand Turismo 2 is one of the best games that I've ever played. It's the most real game than any game I've played. My parents bought me the X-box, but even though I got the newest game system I still cant go a day without playing it for at least 6-7 hours a day. The racing realism on the game is better than ever. I think that this game has been the best success for PlayStation. Almost over 300+ cars on this game. Also the way that the cars are designed in this game is almost the same as a real life car. I you didn't know how a certian car had a certian power just buy this game and YOU will get the information that you want. I you want this game to be even better, than send to PlayStation that they need to continue finishing this game. Because it was only 98% completed. Leaving out songs, tracks, cars and etc. NO MATTER what kind of system of game you get after playing this game no matter what it is, you will not be able to stop playing it. So start playing it now, and try to send in letters to let them complete it. Trust me no matter what the cost of this game is going to be, even $200.99 dollars is the cost, worth buying it because you cant get sick of it.

don't yall know anything about speed!!!!? |
| A gamer from willow springs MO. says (18/Dec/2004): |
I read all the reviews for this awsome game (GT2) and you all are braging about getting a viper to 641 HP, compared to my baby THAT SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try getting a toyota GT one and getting that baby jacked up to 1000 HP, BEAT THAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know this isn't much help but i mean c,mon guys you got to stop braging about a measly 641 HP it is starting to sound like your grannys or something. Anyhow this game rocks, the graphics are so realistic it makes you feal like you are actualy driving the car and the sound, the music can get you pumped it is that awsome!!! When you go to by a car prepare to be amazed.the car selection is so huge that it can take you a hour just to choose a car plus they got so many new and awsome cars that you may just end up spending the day just looking at the sweet cars and wishing you had one just like it.this game is so sweet that i start playing the thing on friday night and next thing i know here is my mother telling me to get ready for school on monday morning.well i hope this convinced someone to play GT2 and i hope this also convinced someone to stop braging about weak cars!!

Awsome 1st Car |
| Anna Elkins from Fort Worth, USA says (26/Mar/2004): |
With the $10,000 you start out with, I shopped around and bought a Toyota Celica GT Four - RC '91, and have since upgraded it almost as much as possible (I only lack a handful of the reeeally expensive modifications, such as the Stage 3 Weight Reduction). I do not recommend touching the transmission. With the Turbo, I tried adding one of the transmission upgrades without reading through it and it dropped the speed from 158mph to 112mph. I am so glad I didn't Save with that.
These packages gave the vehicle 158mph top speed with 288hp and a weight of 2839 lbs.
Sports Suspension Kit
Sports Brakes
Brake Balance Controller
Sports Tires
Turbo Kit Stage 1
Racing Intercooler
Racing Flywheel
Carbon Drive Shaft
Performance Chip
Weight Reduction Stage 2
She can win the $6,000 purse on the Free germany track each time. I can't wait to get an actual license and start racing for REAL winnings in this thing. It OWNS the Free racing circuit. Anyone know a cheat code to get the other Licenses? I'm having major trouble completing a couple of the stupid Braking tests.

Great game!!!! |
| Ronnie Pirtle from Herrin IL. U.S.A. says (1/Oct/2002): |
I've been playing video games since 1975 and Grand Turismo 2 is by far the most realistic driving game I've ever played! It has a few bugs in it like --NEVER SAVE AFTER TESTING YOUR CAR!!! your data will be gone. I learned that the hard way. the other bug is cool you can test your cars top speed at (motor sports land) you turn around after the 2nd turn hug the wall then get on the road must be on road when going into the black abiss. its hard but, if you get ALL GOLD on ALL LICENSE TEST you get a cool car for each license.never owned a game genie so that was tough!! i love the test course time trial as of now escudo is my champ with 43.951 lap. I'm shure i'll have it beat it the next few days. I've had the game for about 2 yrs. now and i still love playing it. not bad graphics for the playstation. but it's the realism and handling for each car that makes Grand Turismo 2 the ultimate Driving game!!!I hope as technology inproves on graphics in the future. we don't loose the realism that Grand Trismo 2 gives us today!!!

The Ultimate Racing Game Ever Made!! Gran Turismo 2 |
| Matt Hanners from mansfield ohio usa says (20/Feb/2002): |
Grand turismo 2 is no doubt better than any other racing game ever!! Honestly, what other racing game gives you over six hunded cars to customize and modificate and like 20 tracks that arent gay made up tracks but actual racing tracks and they are accurate.belive me, if you buy this game you will amazed at how you can play it for 11 hours straight and not get tired of it.they only down side to this game is the fact that the people at playstation wanted to get the game on the shelves before chrismas and they never completed it, its only 98% done! they left out about two good songs, a couple tracks, about 50 cars, and a two mile drag strip.I personaly think that playstation should come out with a updated version with better graphics and all the stuff they left out!!! fight the power and send playstation as many emails and phone calls as you can complaining about this problem and tell them to update it.but still GT2 will always be the best racing game ever!!!

One of the greatest PS games of all time, if not ceartainly the best racing by far. |
| Mike from Omaha, Nebraska, USA says (28/Jul/2003): |
Grand Turismo is one if not the best ps game in my opinion. Its the best in its category, hands down and the pioneer of its class. I like the game because of the realism and all the choices of cars you have and the are not all new japanese cars like on some games. The creators did a real nice job of revive the lost, but great muscle car. Also, the game gives you choices like no other game for racing, with cars from Germany, England, Italy, France, North America, and Japan. I also like how the game lets you take cars of of used car lots, for a cheaper price.
However, there are a couple of downsides to the game at times it can be slow or ask you dumb questions, but my biggest beef is that there is no ferraris, lambourginis or pontiacs just to name a few. It could also leave out some car companies (ex. Puegot and DAIHATSU ) overall its a grat game that is a must buy given its a long haul but it pays of in the long run. "A MUST BUY" in my opinion!

About the Drag |
| keith neeb from Tavistock Ontario Canada says (4/Dec/2003): |
This game isn't the best because you should be able to like build a house go to restaurants and stuff like that and you should get more then 10,000 credits at the beginning. Moving on to the Drag. It may have 1011 hp but when your driving it you have to be careful you got to have a good controller because it will turn right so you got to have your finger on the left d-pad or she'll swurve to the right, and when you take the corners (espacially turning right) you should start turn real early and i mean early earlier than normal. So personally i would stick with the Suzuki Escudo Pike's Peak Version which by the way costs 2 000 000 creds but for 999 hp with good handling and stuff i'll take for that price. another good car is the '98 Impreza Wagon WRK Sti Ver. V. If you would like to know more good cars or something else i have been playing this game long enough to know the do's and don't's so just e-mail me.

THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN COMPARE TO THIS AWESOME GAME!! |
| speedfreak from Plymouth, England says (17/Jan/2001): |
Gran Turismo 2 is THE best racing game that I have ever played. The gameplay is fabulous, it'll keep you going for months with a wide variety of cars and tracks to race. Have you ever encountered cars with 800 or 900 bhp, well now you can experience the thrills of driving these incredible monsters of ultimate speed! Buy new cars and tweak them till they are awesomely powerful and sell old ones that just aren't up to the brilliant standard that you now come to expect.
Watch breathtaking replays that blow you away and save your favourite ones into your own file to show to all your friends or for you to admire the brilliance this game offers you.
Overall (even though I repeat myself!) this is a BRILLIANT,AWESOME AND BREATHTAKING game that I would recommend to any Playstation owner, even if racing games aren't your type you will be surprised at the imense quality of this game! 10/10 definitely!

Escudo 4 pussies. |
| Craig Singleton from Blenheim, New Zealand says (18/Apr/2004): |
Gran Turismo 2. Hmmmh what can i say. it is perfect. the fastest car is no the escudo though. i know what you are thinking 'who does this guy think he is?'well the fastest car isnot the escudo or the drags. it is the Toyota GTONE road version. the on you buy you put a stage 4 turbo kit on it and youll break 425Km/h. no jokes you don' believe ne try it. but there is a way to get another drag car on the game. you get the
Dodge intrepid and put racing mods on it and you get the mopar dragster. also i know how toget the NISMO GTR LM edition of the first one. you buy the special modeel from nissan and get racing mods for it cool huh? Well that is a 10/10 game for me no worry's. the Escudo stinks. when you hit a corner at over 350km/h it suddenly gets over steer and hits the nearest 100 walls (exaggerating slightly).Good on ya polyphony thanks for making this wonderfully perfect racing simulator.

A decent sim, but way too many variety of cars. |
| Loco from jersey city, NJ says (28/Dec/2002): |
I was very pleased with the sequel to GT and I loved the graphics and details to death. The controls are tight, loose, and comfortable and each car handles realisticly. The music isn't neccesarily my type, but the jazz music is ok. This game is for sure a classic in my eyes and it stands higher than GT3 in popularity.
The UPS:
Lots of fast, pretty, and rugged rally cars to choose from
A whole lot of fun courses
Sim mode is better than the first one
Arcade is more arcadish
Graphics of cars, course, and the banners are smooth and swift
The Downs:
Two player mode is too slow and boring
The close-ups on cars during a replay are very glitchy and cheap looking
Way too many useless cars(I can't figure which cars to buy sometimes)
The music is very sucky, but I do like the poppy jazz music
The Arcade is too hard
The pit stops can cause u to lose an endurance race
