Feel the need for close bumber to bumber racing? Want to go for Bill Elliot's lap record at Talladega? Drive with old school drivers like The King Richard Petty, Benny Parson, Bobby Allison, and others? Think you can manuver around some road courses? How about wanting to be The Big man in the pits? Well, if you answered yes to any or all of the above, then this game is for you.
NASCAR 99, is complete with race announcers as you race, giving you track facts, timely driving advice, and well as Benny's usual race chatter. You also will have a spotter telling you to stay low, high, hold your line, ease up, or speed up. Prerace settings allow you run races from 3%-100% in length. Longer races will require you to pit, where you can change from all tires, and pick left or right sides only. You also can adjust wedge, make repairs, and adjust the amount of fuel you take on pit stops. There is also a settin gfor a short race that requires one timely pit stop.
NASCAR 99, also allows you to practice any track, with any driver, and saves your setup(memory card required). You may set up to have yellow flags and break downs(i actually blow a motor with 5 to go in a full length race at Indy[Brickyard 400]). Boy did I ever feel the pain after lapping the field. You may qualify or start in 24th and work your way up. You can increase the skill level to make these guys run true race times. Finally, there are codes that allow to race with NASCAR's greatest drivers.
Whether you like full seasons, single races, head to head, or just drive, you will like this game. The only reason I dont give this game a "10", the instruction manual nor the game gives any real advice as to help with the car settings. If you really want to maximize your talents, you must figure our shock settings & tire pressures for each tire. Weight jack settings, wing angles, sterring wheel, and other adjustments to help your car go faster. Finally, racing at night at Bristol, Charlette, and Richmond are....LIKE EA SPORTS SAYS......."IT'S IN THE GAME!"
