A Good Strategy Game | | David from Hamilton, Ohio U.S.A. says (23/Oct/2000): | I think that this game will interest other people, like me who like games like Warzone 2100, and other startegy/war games. You get to kill enemies, and steal their knowlege and building plans. The things that you are eventually able to build include hot air ballons, boats, and guard towers. This game held my attention for quite a while with all of the spells that you can cast, but after a while, it can get quite boring, and it bothers you because of the increasing difficulty and time that it takes to complete each level. I give this game a rating of 9.
| Populous: The beginning, review by Grizzlychicken | | grizzlychicken says (11/Aug/2003): | If you like strategy games Populous is the game to play. Building villages creating armies and stealing spells all for the purpose of ridding the universe of the three other tribes.
This is a slow strategic game punctuated with fast paced fight scenes. The best parts of the game are when entire villages clash in a sea of little fighting followers. Wheather you want to train spies and attack slowly, train warriors and have one huge attack scene at the end of the level or train preachers to convert the other tribes populousis full of possibilities.
Populous is a game that you'll want to win. It doesn't get boring because as you progress you gain new spells and buildings. As in some games the levels aren't the same over and over, while the majority of the missions are to simply destroy all the other tribes on a planet several of them are quite different, such as, the ones where you can ally with other tribes, or the one where you must rescue your Shaman who is being held hostage by a rival tribe.
I give the graphics a 7/10. While the landscapes and buildings are 3-D the characters are animated 2-D, Which isn't neccesarily a bad thing.
In coclusion Populous: The beginning is a fun game that you won't want to stop playing.
8/10
