A wolf in sheeps clothing | | A gamer from Oslo, Norway says (16/Dec/2000): | I love just about any first person shoot'em up, however when I sat down to play RAINBOW SIX on the PSX, I was immediately dissapointed. After ten minutes, with a mission ending in a bloody massacre, I turned off the damn machine in disbelief.
Thank God I turned it back on later that same day!
The main problem is the controls, which seem extremely poor at first, especially the aim-shot (who would have expected that from a game where you play an international anti-terror group?)... However, with just about every game you always manage to surprise yourself with actually getting the hang of the controls, no matter how hard they seem at first. When this basic problem is eliminated within the first 15 minutes of gameplay (and I turned it off after only 10!) RAINBOW SIX is in fact - A JOY TO PLAY.
The sound and graphics are somewhat below par, but this is all soon forgotten thanks to a fun gameplay. It is also original in it's own way as you, contrary to all the other games of this genre, actually get to use and switch between THREE different soldiers on each mission.
RAINBOW SIX will put the joy back in killing terrorists the professional way, with tactics, silenced kills, and to make sure you're still one of the good guys: rescue some hostages along the way. You really get to feel the excitement of sneaking around undetected by guards and surveilance cameras.
In the end you can't wait for the sequel, in other words: a successfull buy! Just remember to give it those important 15 minutes to get the hang of it all.
