A couple of weeks ago, on a whim, I rented PaRappa the Rapper from RedOctane (www.RedOctane.com). I had heard a lot about this series (Um Jammer Lammy is the second in the series, PaRappa the first), but always avoided it because not only did it sound childish, but I could only imagine the horrendous Japanese Pop (J-Pop) music which would accompany it. Was I mistaken, or what?! Both PaRappa and Lammy are incredible games and should at least be rented, if not bought, by all of our readers. Unless you grew up in a hole somewhere, you'll get a real kick out of these treasures.
While PaRappa obviously focused on rapping, giving you combinations of button patterns (a'la the old Simon games) to press with the rhythm, Lammy does the same - but with a guitar. In both games, the music is great. Very original, well produced, humorous and catchy. Lammy also allows you to twist the licks with effects boxes, letting you give each song your own personal touch. You can view a replay of your performances, you can play 2 player with a friend, I could go on and on. PaRappa is great, Lammy is even better! It's time to rap'n'roll, baby! Get your hands on one of these now!
