I know music critics who say that the WuTang Clan is not a commercial group, that they don't do music for a profit and that they're stricktly underground.....
They have their own video game, for crying out load!! How can they not be commercial?!?
Anyway, there's no reason to complain, as these guys helped inspire one of the best party games ever made. We've been dreaming about this for years: a fighting game with more than 2 fighters. Oh, sure, we've had plenty of street brawling and wrestling games in the past whick featured 3+ people playing at once, but they lacked the depth that Street Fighter brought to the fighting genre and made it so popular.
I guess the reason nobody made such a multiplayer fighter before would because it would seem confusing, all those chaacters on screen, with so many moves to identify. Wu Tang yet succeeds in keeping everything smooth and clear. One might complain the lack of jumping, but that would make a third dimension to keep an eye for, and probably lead to chaos. If there are any faults, its how sometimes people will gang up on you, and you'll have a hard time moving. Beyond that, this game could hardly be improved appon gameplay. Lets hope this game inspires gamemakers to prove me wrong.
The graphics aren't really keen, but the moves look cool, and the fatalities are full cinematics, so its a real eye catcher. And the movies in story mode are nice too.
The music has been made by noone less than the Wu Tang Clan, and the hip hop beats really put you in a mood for beating. And the sound effects like the occasional "ZOOOO!!!" really keep up the vibe.
The controls are a bit of a hassle, as you character moves slowly, some specials require awkward button pressing, almost demanding you play with your index fingers instead of your thumb. Still, a little bit of button mashing brings out a descent arsenal of moves.
The depth is par on most 1 on 1 fighters, meaning about 30 moves per character,and the styles different nicely. Still, compared to the strategy of Street Fighter, of the arsenal of Tekken, this game kind of lacks. Unfotch, 4 player fighting suffers from a lack of strategy. The win goes to the one who plays the most defencively, and that's a boring aprouch.
The story mode is really long for a fighting game, and unlocks lots of hidden fighters. But really, we're still playing this because it's so popular when we get together.
Even though some doodads are original, its the 4 player mode that counts here, really boosting this grade.
Multiplayer games are always exciting, especially if everyone wants to win. Too bad luck is suck a major factor here. Oftenly, it only takes us about three games to realise the winner is too random, making us pick up another game.
All in all, you should try to get at least one friend with this game to play it. I can't say it goes in the ranks of multiplayer fun as bomberman or mario party, but its all out good, and won't dissapoint you.
