This game is one of the best I've ever played!! |
| Sara from Welland,Canada says (22/Oct/2003): |
I love Darkstone! The graphics could have been better, but graphics don't make a game, do they? Hell, no!! I love the different quests, and the characters. I haven't got very far in the game but so far I think it's great!!!!!! I haven't been down into the deeper levels yet but what I've seen so far is really cool. Looking forward to finishing it. Best money I've ever spent on a game.

Everything I could ask for in a game |
| Steven Dare from Omaha, NE, USA says (5/Sep/2001): |
I have been playing Darkstone for a while now, and it is all that I ever wanted in a game and more. It has a high level of action, easy starting, increasing difficulty, easy-to-master controls, excellent graphics, innovative use of a shifting perspective (by moving the right stick on the Dualshock, you can dolly around the character or zoom in and out, use triangle+d-pad w/out dualshock), 21 quests in a 7-quest game, so you're never playing the same game twice (and each quest is comprised of four dungeon levels, so there's a lot of gameplay going on here), then, after the seven quests, there's the big boss to beat -- a dragon, of course. And the most important thing in any game, as far as I'm concerned, you can save it anytime, no matter what's happening on screen -- I've even saved in the middle of getting my butt bit off by lizard men, and was glad I did, because I died, and pulled it out when I restored. Even the great Final Fantasy games don't let you save everywhere -- in FFVIII, I know, when you're not out cracking skulls on the plains, you have to find "save points," and I have a game called Fear Effect (don't buy it) that only lets you save when the game decides it's time.
The game's only drawbacks are that spells and scrolls can't be used from the inventory -- they have to be assigned a button, instead of just being cast, although potions have a "drink" option in the inventory window. The other drawback is poor memory management -- it requires six blocks of memory on the memory card, which isn't so bad, but it only holds one level in active memory at a time, and it takes about thirty seconds to load the next. And since you use a magic door to travel from the current dungeon level to the town quite a lot, that's a lot of down time. But, it's only thirty seconds, and that's smoke-lightng time, or pop-getting time, or chip-opening time, or bathroom time, because town's safe, and you can stand there for a second without gettting your butt bit off by lizard men. All in all, the many high points far, far outweigh the two small low points, and this is a game I reccommend for everyone.

I THINK THIS IS THE BEST GAME I EVER PLAYED |
| Jesse from USA says (11/Jul/2002): |
This game is good in all sorts of ways. you have to think of the amount of freedom that this game allows you to cherish. The weapons are amazeing, and so are the spells and special skills you learn along with the game. The story line is ok but needs work and i think they should fix the game up and re make it for the Playstation 2. There are so many different characters to chose from and most of them each have a different storyline to play off of. You get to buy your skills and spells in this game unlike Most of the other rpg's out there where the game decides if you get this much HP or what not. But, all in all, this game is everything you can expect from a medieval playstation game like it self. I have personally written other reviews on other sites trying to spread the faith of the game and to see if maybey some day they will re make it for playstation 2. I have mentioned the idea of a re make for the PS2, and i am trying to stress the idea so people might send more requests in and we get more people to play the game mabey they will re create a legendary game.

I got ever penny worth +! |
| Alvin from lockport,la. (u.s.) says (22/Aug/2002): |
After spending years hacking away in the dungeons of Diablo i maxed out chracters, and became bored after owning everything of the zodiac! After giving Diablo to my girlfriend i went and bought Darkstone. To be honest i didn't expect much for the price! I sat in aww as i sa up all night hacking away. It has been a few monthes now and everyday after work Darkstone sits waiting. The load time was annoying at first, but it creates time for restroom breaks and rolling up.....never mind(lol)! The weapons are aplenty. The spells rule, and i can't get enough!!!

Another Great RPG To add to my collection.... |
| Ryan "Demon" Radford from Hamlet, USA says (27/Aug/2003): |
After many years of playing FFs with the turnbased / atb battle style, my friend turned me onto Diablo II. After awhile of playing it..I was like *yawn*. So then me and another friend traded some stuff, and Darkstone got caught up in the trade. I started playing it when I got grounded (they took my PS2 away v.v) and since then I've been hooked on this game. The graphics aren't the greatest but any true rpgamer KNOWS that the game is all in the story line. The game is awesome....I love my Amazon Warrior Chick ^.^!

Its a must for any role player who likes D&D! |
| David Garcia from East Alton Illinois, USA says (6/Jun/2001): |
Besides all of the horrible loading time, this game is really an awsome. When you first start its handeling may not seem all good but it grows on you. In my opinion if you enjoy playing Diablo, or Gauntlet Ledgeonds you will love this wonderful role playing game.

DarkStone, Don't just pay attention to graphics |
| Justin from Alta Loma, California, U.S.A says (8/Sep/2001): |
I think people are way to spoiled by great graphics. What is more important in a game, the graphics or the gameplay? You can have a game with great graphics but what if there isnt good gameplay? Then its just not worth it right?DarkStone is a mix of Diablo(great game) and Gauntlet Legends. Not to mention you can pick from 8 characters, Warrior,Amazon,Wizard,Thief,Assasin,Monk, ect.(can't think of the other two). The replay value is great, each time you start a new game it changes things around(exept for your main town).Plus how can u refuse to buy a good game for ten bucks?!I have been surprised that these budget games are doing as well as they are. There is a total of 32 spells you can get for mages and such.Certain weapons have attributes to them and such.It is plainly a Diablo clone, which i don't mind.So if you liked Diablo go grab this game.Only downer is that it is only a one player.

The graphics stink but that's not all that counts |
| A gamer from Georgia,USA says (14/Jan/2002): |
I have seen games with way better graphics so i have to take off points for that. Although I have to give those points back for the way the story goes. You don't just go three levels and then beat it. You have to go over 30 levels and I think that's great.

Great Game |
| Duane Barrett from Avon, New York USA says (25/Jun/2003): |
This game, by far, is the best RPG i played...So far, I beat the game once and going to beat it again and I love how the items leave off from when you beat the game when you choose a higher difficulty. I don't really think much of the graphics, but the gameplay and selection of equipment rules! Anyways, I took 1 point off for a bug the recently killed me 3;-)
P.S. That bug i was talking about is the attacking bug when I sometimes hit like 20 times in a row and I dont even get a sound... I also heard there was a DarkStone 2 out and I saw the previews for it. CHEERS!

Darkstone by: Magus2001 |
| Mark M. from Mouncville, Alabama, USA says (10/Feb/2001): |
Darkstone is a great game. It combines great gameplay, graphics, and story line. It has the feel of the original Diablo game, but with more characters and improved graphics. The random selection of missions gives this game one of the best replay and longivity ratings available. Everytime you start the game you have a different combination of missions. The items, enemies, and room positions are always different giving the added feeling of suprise and wonder. Changeable camera positions let you get different views on your situation and add to your view of the entire environment. Darkstone is a must for any of the hardcore Diablo fans out there and will not be game that is sat down and done with in five minutes

What do you expect for less than 10 bucks????? |
| SJ Cecil from Archdale,NC (USA) says (10/May/2001): |
I guess I've been spoiled by Square Soft. Dark Stone didn't do a lot for me. I didn't really care too much for the game play or the graphics. This isn't one of the better RPGs out there. It may have impressed me a little more if it had came out 10yrs ago for the SNES. In today's world of FF, Chrono Cross and Mana, games like Dark Stone just don't measure up. Still, the game is a bargain and I can't complain about that!

what a terrible wyvern is this |
| abloquer from Bodrum Turkey says (7/Feb/2004): |
i have played it for hours not to c that terrible Wyverns but i must say that the other plays of game s good.I think they could shot a better point by working more on the graphics.I am waiting for another darkstone series to take them my best...
|
This game freakin rocks |
| Chris from New Orleans says (25/Mar/2005): |
The game of course came out early in sony's psone life and this caused a kind of buggy look to it with the graphics and all, but all visuals aside the gameplay is unmatched you can put hours into the game beat it then go a difficulty up and redo the game with different quests thats right different quests not too many rpgs during that time had this capability plus you get like 8 different characters each with their own skills advantages and weapons not only that you get like 50 or some spells that do anything you can think of. Like I said earlier this game ROCKS!!
|
It sucks! |
| Gamefreak from Milwaukee, USA says (24/Aug/2003): |
I have to say that Darkstone TOTALLY SUCKS! How the heck do I play it?! The graphics are terrible. You buy this fake ammo. The nerds out there who buy this game are people that just do not listen. if you buy this crap, just know u are doing the wrong thing. I play it, then I turn it off. I have a rummage sale coming up, and I definetly will be selling it for $1.69. Contact me all you want, even though I rarely check e-mails.
