The Castle Vania is amazing | | Cyrus Quilas from Quezon City, Philippines says (25/Mar/2007): | the Castle Vania is very amazing, when I play that game I want to finished that in early because is adventure and awesome sometimes I didn't know that the day is gone because of the game. I finished the game in 2 weeks but I want to play it again. I couldn't belive how amazing this game was the first time I played it. First the music hits you,it's so dramatic,so romantic,very vampy. The music sets the mood for this absoloutly fabulous castlevania venture. I think you really feel the full intensity of every scene because of the sweet,haunting,sometimes scarry full scale melodies.
Then,the opening scene,what can I say,I was impressed,as I'm sure most people were. When you see the castle,& the huge moon,your eyes devouring every word running across the screen,you know you're in for a great game. Alucard,running through the forest-(ok,is it just me,or is Alucard sexy)-moving so fast he's passing up nocturnal birds & such,then he flies over the moat into the castle. It's just plain cool!
Once you actualy get to the game it's self there's so much to explore! No matter how many times I play it,I got it when it first came out mind you,it never gets old. I think this game has one of the highest replay values out there. The game is beautiful,down to every detail! The rooms & backgrounds are works of art,you almost feel that you could walk right into them.
I also love the enimies,they are so much fun to kill! They bleed,scream,explode,wither,& basicly try to take you with them! I like the fact that the baddies have real personality.
All of the details are really what I think make this game great! All the weaponry,speacialitems,secrets,familiars,speacial moves,npcs,the bosses,(the bosses are great, there's even one made up of tons of zombies,my fav!). The fact that you can actualy drink blood as a vampire in this game is really cool.When you sit down in this one room, you can put your feet up, & you can even go into the confession booth,& the spirit of a preist comes in to listen! I mean this is the stuff that I used to dream of in a game! I would recomend this game to anyone who enjoys a challenge,& can apreaciate the artistry,& care that was obviously put into is game! Keep makin' em like this one & I'll keep buyin' em!

| Castlevania SOTN is quite possibly the GREATEST 2D game ever made... | | XYZ from Toronto, Canada says (17/Dec/2000): | The Playstation edition of Castlevania is simply a flawless entry. First off, I should start by saying that I love 2D platform games. They remind me of the old great Nintendo days of the past. Yet nowadays it is really hard to find a good, in depth, fun game in this genre. Well, Castlevania goes well beyond keeping up the tradition, for it surpasses greatly almost every other game in the category. I'll admit that this review is a little dated. But when I was browsing through the list and saw that no one had done one, I knew that I had to do so. First off, Castlevania is visually beautiful even as a 2D game. From the bosses, the background to Alucard himself the game looks very, very good. Sometimes an escape from the 3D worlds can be so beneficial. The game flows smoothly and the loading is very minimal. The music is addictive and suits the game perfectly. However, where the game shines is that it is so much fun to play. You'll find yourself roaming the large castle without even realizing the time which has gone by. Include that with the fact that there are multiple endings, 2 castles and a host of other things to do, and the result is a special type of video game. In my opinion, this is truly one of the finest games to be created for the Sony Playstation. And I would easily put it on my top five list for the best psx games ever, a recommended buy for everyone.
| This game is great... | | Bob from Troy, Montana USA says (13/Feb/2003): | This game is great. Once you start, you dont want to stop playing. Even after you beat Dracula, you still want to play. The bosses are great, its too bad that you cant fight some of them more than once. I beat it the first time and now I play just to see what I can get. This game is full of things that you could never guess. Every enemy seems to drop something if you kill it enough. Get the Crissegram, nothing beats that sword. Spending half an hour killing schmoo after schmoo is worth it for that sword. The game is by far one of the funnest games Ive ever seen/witnessed/played. Too bad it isnt more popular, the only copies yo can buy all seem to be second hand. The grapics are as good as PS graphics can get, and the 2D side-scroll gameplay is great. This game has never really got boring, even as I run around killing mermen for hours upon hours trying to level up my familiars. The demon familiar is by far the best. My favorite boss was probably the dopplegangers, they were both fun... so was orloc. Dracula seemed easy by the time I had beaten everyone else. The guy with the lightning staff is kinda hard, but poison mist cloud is worth it. This game is worth it and is a great addition to any gmaers collection.
| A rare gem worth keeping. | | John from Sacramento, CA U.S. says (28/Jul/2003): | This is probably the best Castlevania game (along with Arria of Sorrow for the gameboy advance) available right now. I'm still waiting for the next Castlevania game to come out for the PS2 in November. I hope it'll be better than the lame Nintendo 64 versions. With a new hero who uses swords, gloves, and rapiers rather than a whip, this is something worth looking into. There even a trick to play as Richter (but he sucks because of his low life bar, poor defense, and not having the ability to level up and collect new weapons like Alucard). Richter does have some cool moves though and he can use the sub-weapons a lot better than Alucard. My only complaint is that why is there no option to switch the language from American to Japanese with American subtitles? The Japanese voices were acted out perfectly but the American voices were done poorly. At least Konami won't make this mistake again in the upcoming Castlevania. Despite all this, go and buy this game. It's worth it since it is really cheap now.

| this game is the best game i ever played!!!!!!!!!!!! | | A gamer says (27/May/2003): | ive played castle vania from the beginning. i thought thatthe games were cool. but when i played this game it took the cake it was better than any game i have ever played for the playstation. the sound to this game is 10 out of 10. the music for this game is awsome. it is 2d not 3d but i think it is better than a 3d game. you get to turn into a bat, a wolf, and into mist. you get to learn how to transform and how to do spells. they stoped making this game so it hard to find this game.this game is fun. it also has very good background art. at the beginning of the game youre a man named belmont richard and you start as a vampire slayer, and you have to slay Alcards father who is a vampire. and when you beat him richard belmont goes missing for four years, and suddenly a castle appears and you then start out as alcaurd at the beginning of the castle. i think you should play this game because it is the best.

This game really gives me a creep. I really like a bloody game, specially this game. It's sounds and songs, like 'I am The Wind', I like this song, just like a melting heart inside my body. Even though it is really scary to play(if I play 'THIS' in the 'MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT') but still rock baby! I like Alucard, even if he is a vampire, he's amy type of a guy or a vampire, he's so cute!!!!!!!For the ladies out there, try to 'hunt' him. Even so much like Richter, I don't like him, 'cause his skill is different than Alucard(I know because his a Holy one.) It's graphics were great to, it is out of this world. The item were fantastic to, some of them can be used, some of it were useless, like the 'Trifying Sword'(a cursed sword), and the 'Rusty sword'. This is a game who loves 'BLOOD', this is perfect for you.
| The world came tumbeling down | | Darius Enthalamine from .....Go away.... says (23/Jun/2004): | Konami has long been one of the greatest game prodicers on the plante when it comes to graphics and gameplay, but I do believe this game alone rivals Squaresoft (Acclaimed Final Fantasy)! This game as superb fighting methods, classic enemies, and some of the best sub weapons (Aside from Lament of Innocence on PS2) in the series. I found of the best plusses in the game that you didn't play as a member of the "Melmont" family, which was getting pretty repetitive, and instead played as Alucard the Vampire. I believe Konami captured Alucard correctly (according to pages taken from his diary) in that he was silent, strong, and alltogether brilliant with a bleek outlook on life. You get my ten Konami, now go and make Squaresoft cry!
((Note: I love the Final Fantasy series and have no disses for Squaresoft, I'm just glad to see them getting a little competition in the Action RPG industry))

I think that the game has LOTS of exploration,secret rooms and weapons.The other ones just have one weapon but on symphony of the night you can choose. It is a lot better than the idiotic n64 versions that you have a low life bar on. On the first one you can't even jump properly. some of the bosses are really fun to kill and it would be cool to have a cheat that you can put in to fight them again.I have had the collectors edition for 4 years now and have beat it 21 times and a half [I am half way through the 22nd time] but the collectors edition has an artbook and a music cd as well as the game [the artbook RULES!]if I could advise anyone to get a game it would be Castlevania symphony of the night!

The gameplay is cool,there are many rooms to venture which all have magic items and secret walls to break which leads you to a new areas which you haven't been before. The role playing is quite good,the bosses are great especially Galamoth he's one of the hardest my friends like him the most! There are two castles to venture. The game is full of secrets ive played the game for nearly 2 years and still more secrets keep coming !!
I especially like the style of graphics, if only konami could make another caslevania for the playststion with this style of graphics, i'd definetly buy it if they did!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the main things I'd like to focus on in this review is the shere quality of some of the enemies, the bosses inparticular.
Anybody who has been in a fight with Galamoth for the first time with a lack of experience,health,abillities( like mist that can move) and weapons , will probably agree with me that he is somewhat the most impressive boss ever created.
His size, strength, speed. Even now, when i no longer consider him a threat, do i tremble at the thought of fighting Galamoth. The game is fantastic. There is nothing I dislike.
the inclusion of so many secrets only adds to the quality of this truly great game.

an original dark knight i must say.the replay value on this game is so high because there are so many things to find and do differently while playing through that it would literally take months to get every single item and find every secret in the game.ive been playing this game for 6 years.i am totally OBSESSSED with this game lol

Castlevania is the greatest 2D game out there. Compared to all the other Castlevania games this one rules over all of them. Castlevania Symphony of the night is the sequal to Castlevania Vampires kiss. You play as a half-Vampire half-Human man named Alucard. Dracula's son. Alucard can use many different weapons instead of just a whip like all the other castlevanias. This is a definatly a MUST BUY game. And I just heard about the sequal to Catlevania Symphony of the Night. Man I cant wait for that to come out.

Because of the classic Castlevania-sidescrolling and RPG-elements it is the best game in the Castlevania-Series. I was, and I am still, fascinated. And I like the music, it is a mix of techno, classic and rock. A friend, who only plays 3D-Games, liked it, although this game is 2D. Wonderful japanese drawings, great lighteffects, and a exciting story are one of the many reasons why this game is most-liked.

SOTN has 4 different endings which is quite a nice and intersesting game. It makes your brain think and work out strategies. Not only that secret passages are all around and are exciting to find one which have not being discovered. And more if u can play SOTN soundtrack in a PC or a CD player. The soundtrack is very nice and most of all out of the ordinary..In conclusion, SOTN IS THE BEST
