Chrono Nigger from Please enter your city (state) and country says (29/Jun/2003):
The Simpsons, created by Matt Groening, began in 1987 as a series of 30-second spots for The Tracey Ullman Show. These 30-second shorts included the full family. The show then premiered on FOX as a half hour-comedy on 14th January 1990. It has enjoyed immense popularity employing a wide range of comic devices, from irony to slapstick and was also one of the first sit-coms to have depicted a working-class, nuclear family.

The target audience is adults, skewed towards the upscale with its highbrow humour 15-35 yrs but it is also targeted at kids 5-15 yrs

I enjoy watching The Simpsons as it has clever plots and it also comments on and criticises the contemporary U.S. society.

This American comedy is based on the daily events, issues and adventures of the Simpsons family. The majority of the episodes are set in and around a small local town by the name of “Springfield”.

Every episode begins in “Springfield” and uses the same music theme. The opening of each episode also acts as a small introduction to the characters and various aspects of the town. Stereotypes of the characters can also immediately be made. Eg. Bart is seen writing out lines on the blackboard as a result of bad behaviour during school. This illustrates that he is the typical young boy, mischievous and a troublemaker.

The comic trap in The Simpsons is family and the flow of humour is multidirectional, although homer generates the majority of the comedy. The other characters although important, are not as dominant.

Homer Simpson is the common man in a simple world. He is fat, lazy, irresponsible, and dim-witted. Although caring, his actions often reflect his inability to think matters through carefully. This can be observed as a shop clerk very easily persuades Homer, within a matter of moments, into buying a high-end $5000 computer. He is the opposite stereotype as he is irrational and indecisive and is often disempowered by his lack of awareness and stupidity. Homer also prizes food above all else. These attributes make him undoubtedly the funniest character.
Marge Simpson, Homer’s wife, is the stereotypical housewife. She is caring and looks after the kids. She is also very thoughtful and rational. She is Homer’s oppositional character. Marge’s appearance is also somewhat comical as she has very tall blue hair. Lisa and Bart are also oppositional characters. Lisa, aged 8, is smart and the typical teacher’s pet. Bart, aged 10, however is quite the opposite. He is the prime suspect of every wrongdoing and incident at school, and is disliked by his teacher and the principle.

Maggie, although not as important or as dominant as the other characters, gives viewers the impression of the typical nuclear family.

The episode that I have chosen is called “The Computer Wore Menace Shoes”. It is about Homer realising that he is in dire need of a computer in order to access the Internet. After being conned into buying a $5000 computer, he decides to make his own web page. When his web page isn’t getting any visitors, he begins anonymously spreading local rumour and makes things up when his sources run dry. After stumbling across a conspiracy the events begin to snowball.

He is kidnapped to a place called “The Island” and awakens to find himself surrounded by strange animals, people and things. Incongruity can be seen here as homer runs into a phone booth trying to call for help, when toxic gas begins pouring out of the phone. He then meets the “Master” whose appearance is of a stereotypical villain. He is thin, old and speaks with a British accent. Homer’s love for food can be seen here as the master offers him ice cream that is clearly filled with drugs and syringes. At first Homer is objective to eating it but as the Master begins talk, a quick scene change shows homer with his face in the ice cream and paying no attention to the Master.

When he arrives back home, having escaped “The Island” using a raft, the rest of the family are then surprisingly gassed by their dog and are all taken back to “The Island”.

The major discourse in The Simpsons is a class discourse as they are a working class family. This can be seen, as they do not have expensive cars or good furniture. A family discourse is also seen, as they are a typical family.

One group of resistant viewers may be British people as the Master is portrayed as villainous, and fiendish.

Over 300 episodes of The Simpsons have now been produced and it continues to be enjoyed and loved by its viewers.

Chrono Trigger's Magic Is Still Alive8916

Unknown Mooma from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA says (7/Aug/2002):
I don't know if it's because this is the second rpg/game that I have played, or because I played this game at a young age, but I feel not many of today's rpgs, or even games can even come close to the spark of wonder that this game can bring. To this day, I still tie this game with Final Fantasy 3/6. Obviously then, CT's magic cannot come from graphics, although, Chrono Trigger, for its day, had beautiful graphics that, by some people, could still be considered beautiful today. Along with the colorful scenes the game brings, the "new-and-improved version" of Chrono Trigger brings great anime scenes done by Dragonball Z's artist, Akira Toriyama, which adds even MORE depth to this already exhilarating game. The new version of CT, for the Playstation, also comes along with another great Square classic, Final Fantasy 2/4, in a package called Final Fantasy Chronicles.
Now, having talked about CT's art, let's not forget music! The music comes from the amazing mind of Yasunori Mitsuda (I'm pretty sure!?). Some of the best music I have heard (And I'm not just talking about game music) has come from the Chrono Series; so very beautiful, that you might even want to just have the music itself! The replay on the Chronicles; just get New Game+ and enjoy the whole story all over again. The game just happens to have multiple endings (Showing just how in-depth and detailed some rpgs' worlds are), depending on the actions you take. The gameplay is also amazing; this game isn't too easy, but not astoundingly difficult either. The game's length is good. This game isn't all that long, though, and I'm only wishing it could have lasted MUCH longer. But, don't be bummed out about this only flaw; it might have just been a short game for me because I didn't level up enough, or it just went by too fast (Time flies when you're having fun!). So, obviously this game is lots of fun but, like any other good rpg/game, it takes hard work to receive just EVERYTHING that an amazing game like this has to offer. When it comes to originality, this game has got it, hands down. There is not another game, that I have seen, that has a storyline quite like this one. You know how you always want a game with memorable characters, characters that you wish WERE real? Well, this is one of those games: Crono, who voices his thoughts through his kind actions; Lucca, with a past who's you can forever change; Marla, although a future queen, she would give it all up for her closest friends; Frog, if you look past the outside, inside, he is a true human; Robo, a strong will and a mighty heart, shows love for all his new friends; and Ayla, strong, muscley, but truly soft inside when it comes to protecting her allies. Don't pass this game up; it would be like passing up 6 lifetime-friends (OK, not lifetime, but at least for many, many hours...hehe). So, finally, here is a little bit of what the story is about. You start off as a boy who lives with his mother, with his one friend, Lucca. This boy is Crono. Lucca's invention, turns out to be some sort of time-warp, sending them to era like, 65,000,000 AD, 600 AD, and 2300 AD. In these eras, they encounter many adventures, dangers, ... and friends. It may sound corny, but the further you get into the game, the deeper the story gets. As you can see I've grown a passion for this game (What can I say? I'm an RPG freak). Talk FF or CT with me anytime. You can also come to like this game , even if you aren't that big on rpgs. I only hope this review was efficient enough for you gamers. And sorry I couldn't find any big flaws to this game, but, at least to me, there aren't ANY! Hehe. About the current topic, on whether this game would be better if it updated its graphics to look like today's games, I think that is up to how your mind works. See, I do believe that in SOME cases, IF this game is redone right, the improved look would actually bring more depth to the game, and actually make it seem MORE alive and true, and real. But if they take away the magic of Crono's world, NON-random battles, the techs that only bring the characters more together and stronger in battle, and all the other wonderful aspects of this game, I believe that only then would the graphics bring an illness to this already great game. So if this game IS to be redone, it should be done right (If you know what I'm trying to say). OK, now stop reading, and go play Chrono Trigger. Sorry to have taken up your playing time, hehe...

Chrono Trigger Review6514

Kelly Sorenson from Kennewick, WA USA says (22/Mar/2002):
I'll be honest, I didn't have a SNES to play this on so I went with the next obvious choice. I got an snes emulator and rom of Chrono Trigger. If I have to go to jail for it, it will have definitely been worth it. This game really is just an awesome display of what is possible through some solid gameplay and a tight story. The graphics fit very well, aside from the fact that they were 'dated'. But it didn't matter. While a story can be told without pictures, you always have some in your head. In video games, graphics are really only there so you can see what's going on. Or get a better feel for the surroundings, but either way the story is still there. As for Chrono Trigger's story, you'll soak it up and hope it doesn't stop. There was always another corner you'll need to peek around before deciding it was time for bed. That should be the definition of a good game, how much sleep you miss. Having a decent stable of characters is also desirable.

In fact, everytime a new character came onto the scene you might feel a little uncomfortable with them. But the delivery of practically everything story-wise is so complete that within minutes of the new character arriving, a sort of bond grows between you both. Later on in the game you come to a point where you must leave a character 'behind', and this is difficult. Each one is necessary, but not all can come along. You can only have two party members with you while playing through.

The gameplay works great with the story. Other party members aren't 'absorbed' into you, they walk behind and follow you everywhere. If you jump down a cliff, they're right behind you (if that's not devotion...). The battles are quite the same in that the enemy doesn't just appear, they're on the world map in front of you. You can choose to carefully walk around, or walk into them and start brawling. The battle system is old school turn based and fortunately this works as an advantage. A lot of the battles require strategy, not just mindless tapping of the buttons.

This game really delivers on all fronts of video gaming. The only reason it doesn't get the perfect score is it's tendency to become repetitive. Which is definitely something you can easily overlook. So if you're in for a good time that's sure to last a while, go out and get this game. It can be found on the Final Fantasy Chronicles package that comes with Final Fantasy IV for the PS One.

More Final Fantasy Magic7141

Chrono Serge from Warner Robins, GA USA says (29/Apr/2002):
Being a devout Final Fantasy fan after playing Final Fantasies VII-IX, I decided to catch up on some earlier Final Fantasy titles I had missed, because there had been many remakes like Final Fantasy Anthology and Chronicles. I went to the store and found Final Fantasy Chronicles, which as everyone knows contains Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, each on separate discs. After purchasing this title and getting home, I popped in FF IV, got to the first save point, and was killed in a random battle soon after. I then decided to try the other title, Chrono Trigger. The only RPGs I had ever played were in the Final Fantasy series, so I thought that maybe this would come close to the magic of Final Fantasy. It was just a time-traveling adventure; nothing special there, right? Man, was I surprised. Not because of the graphics; even though Chrono Trigger’s graphics were great during its original release in 1995 on the Super Nintendo (Super Famicom in Japan), it still didn’t have the mind boggling graphics of today’s systems. But Chrono Trigger had something more. It had the same Final Fantasy magic (well, I guess it should now be called the Squaresoft magic.) Consisting of a deep storyline, numerous magic spells (such as fire, ice, and lightning), and unforgettable characters, this game really is a spectacle to behold, only rivaled in its greatness by its successor, Chrono Cross. This is a game that should be in every RPG player’s collection. And if you don’t play RPGs and are looking for something new, Chrono Trigger is a great game to get started with. It’s just too bad slow load times had to steal away from its magic. Even so, Chrono Trigger is awesome and should not be overlooked.
**The game rating is now being changed by me. Games are now rated on a 5-point scale. Each point is associated with a separate category, and the categories consist of: Graphics 1.0, Load times 0.5, Replay value 0.5, Playability 1.0, Gameplay 1.0. Each category can receive either a full point (1.0), one half of a point (0.5), or no points (0). Get the picture?**

OMG THIS GAME HAS COMPLETLY CHANGED MY VIEW OF RPGS17062

LuccaFan#1 from California,USA says (7/Feb/2003):
Hey well my summary says it best.i have played all Final Fantasy games and i was looking for something new then one day my friend called me over and that was my first look at chrono cross(the sequel to chrono trigger)well i saw it and had to have it it was FF with more feeling and better storylines.well after i beat chrono cross i was still hungry for more well i then saw Final Fantasy Chronicles in my favorite game store after buying it and playing just until the first trip to the end of time i was in love i mean this game has it all.a storyline that you can't ask more of,Loveable characters(Luccas The BEST ^,^),battle setup unlike that of any game EVER i mean you see the enemy and when you fight them you don't got into a battle sequence you just pull out your sword and start fighting, you get triple team moves(even in Chrono cross the most you get is double team between a few characters)in chrono trigger almost everybody has at least one double team with everyone.after i finish this game i will write another review and that will have about 200 more words then this. i am telling you i tried to play Final Fantasy 7 and i just couldn't help but be mad when ever i got into a random battle or when i got to the arcade game like inner games man i couldn't stand the fact that the characters were just there they really didn't interact as much as in chrono trigger i mean if i mean there isn't that much stratagy in your caharcter selection i mean a healer a fighter and a magic user is really all you need in FF7 But in chrono trigger which characters you choose effects what techs you can use and that to me is the thing that completly seperates chrono trigger from final fantasy.Well that is my review for now i will right back when i actually finish the game.Just think if i love this game this much already wat will it be like when i know the whole story and i actually weep over seeing the characters leave

I got the game a week ago and couldn't let go of it 's that good!41733

Giraffesforsale from Grandville Mi USA says (11/Jul/2004):
I really liked the game because it had a whole variety of characters. They may of been odd once and awhile but it was nice that all the characters weren't only human for once in a game. And it also had very great graphics for a super nitendo better than some final fantasy games I've played. Also I got lucky to because my neighbor hood was having a whole bunch of garage sales and Igot it at the end of the day for fifteen dollers with I had to look all over for and also borrow. And out fo all the characters I would have to say I liked Mangus the best or janus what ever you would like to call him. I also liked the game becase it was diffrent from my Mario all-stars game witch I was getting bored of. I personally thought it was original because no other game has so many endings or such a vast array of techs and characters. Out of a fun factor I give it a ten out of ten because of the just over all game play and also for the side missions. My favorite was when you had to prove the king did not sell the ranbow shell. Also you have to think that its ironic that you had to pour pop on to toma's grave I mean who in real life would have you do that. I also got lucky that I got this game because my friend almost bought it because he wanted it too. But I personally wouldn't sell the game at all. I like it so much ill probably still be playing it till I'm thirty seven if not older.

THE BEST RPG EVER18503

Robert Briggs from Mustang, Oklahoma USA says (1/Mar/2003):
Man when i first played chrono trigger i was in love. i mean whats not to like about a game that has things like dual techs triple techs and time travel. plus the story line is the best I've ever seen. Not only that you also get things like the music box, movies, treasure maps for all time periods, and it has multiple endings, trust me I've got em all because this is the only game I practically ever play. I know everything about this game trust me i've played it for 900 hours one time getting my characters up to level 99. Also I think Frog is the best character in the game because he has techs like heal and slurp and can also get dual techs like slurp kiss and frog flare. But if you're lookin for a person with a load of power take Ayla with you. When you're up against the lavos head she's a good ally to have with you. Anyway I say Chrono Trigger is a lot better than most of the Final Fantasy games because the FF games you have to follow the story line and in Chrono Trigger you can go all over time. So thats what I think about it but in ordr to have played a real RPG you have to play this.

This game started RPGs513

Duo Maxwell from USA, Indiana says (31/Oct/2000):
OK, now this game is one if not THE best game ever. It's incredible graphics and awesome story make it the number one RPG in the history of gaming. The graphics have a cartoony style but are still really nice, I think these are better in their own way then the graphics of some N64 games. The story to this game is beyond belief, with an endless amount of ways to beat it and many different endings. It's definetly good for those who like to play games over and over. The score for the game is quite nice with great themes and well...just good music! The characters are very well depveloped also, you learn a lot about them, and kinda get to know them. The main theme of the story is all about...well..take the name; chrono stands for chronological, and trigger means...um...trigger, so the point is to fix something and put it back like it should be - but i won't tell ya what! Now I'm not dissing the Final Fantasy Series but I totaly think that this game outrates FF by a long shot. So for any of RPG lovers such as myself, GET THIS GAME!!!!!!!

Chrono Trigger: from 1,000,000 BC to 2300 AD7886

The rpGamer from Mount Holly, NJ, USA says (16/Jun/2002):
You look at this and say "well a lot of games have ratings like this" but once you play the game, you find out how litteral it is. You can time travel to a couple eras of time. From 1,000,000 BC up to 2300 AD. The graphics in this game is just amazing for it's time, and above that the game's storyline is just extrordinary. I mean WOW. I am playing it and thinking to myself "Oh, God? Did you make this game? For I know you are the only one who could." Of corse I didnt mean it, but this game does feel like it could have been made by God. The Anime pictures and cartoons are just great and fit in with the story and on top of that it has a great storyline! OH WOW! What a super deal! It is definitly worth that 40$! And you get Final Fantasy IV with it too! (in the Final Fantasy Cronicles package)Buy yours now cause i hear that Sqauresoft is going to retire it. I also reconmend Chrono Cross, the sequel. And I just can't wait for the third one, Chrono Scarr (or something like that) to come out!

Definitely the best RPG...how about the best game?22427

John from New York, USA says (28/Apr/2003):
Chrono Trigger is definitely the BEST RPG game ever. But could it break through and be considered as the best game period? It has all the components that make a great game: an awesome movie-like story, romance, awesome graphics (for a 16bit module), extra adventures on the side, in-depth and interesting characters, pivotal plot-twists, multiple (16 to be exact) endings, and the most IMPORTANT part of a great game: longevity. Not one RPG matched what Chrono Trigger did, which is why it was such a revolutionary game. I must have played this game at least ten times. This game has to rank on my top-five all time, and will most likely stay in that slot. Chrono Trigger is MUST PLAY. The only thing that holds this back as the best game period, is field of interest. RPG's are not for everyone, but if they were to get started, Chrono Trigger should be a first. 10/10

All-time Best Game EVER!!23264

Crono from Massachusettes, USA says (11/May/2003):
Chrono Trigger is the most detailed and well thought of RPG that I have ever played. The storyline is long and thought through (for the time it was made) and really propelled your mind into the game with all the different twists and occurences. The characters were very well thought of and the ability to time travel was great. So far even the great RPG's like Final Fantasy VII and Suikoden have not been able to top this great game. I think that Squaresoft should make a reall sequel (NOT Chrono Cross) because they could do it (possibly Lavos is revived, world is facing destruction, or Queen of Zeal is revived. Just some ideas) and that would be a great game too because squaresoft can make the best games ever, so it wouldnt be that much work for squaresoft because they have plenty of ideas and just keep spurting them out.

Chrono Trigger is de best!!!!!!!7864

Bauhaumut Eagle from Wallingford, Connecticut, USA says (15/Jun/2002):
Chrono Trigger has touched my heart ever since my bro started playing it when I was five! ('Course it was easy for him...) I've completed this game numerous times and it has never gotten old. I bet some people who have played this game think the same that Chrono Trigger is de best 2 dimentional 1995 game in de world!! And the sequel, Chrono Cross and the remake is also very cool too. It's graphics are de best. (Just some of de best 1995 Squaresoft Chrono Trigger project.) Wouldn't it be cool if there was a Chrono Trigger game that looks like Chrono Cross? Only time shall tell. (Let's just hope that Chrono Break [The third Chrono sieres game] combines Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross into one game.

This game is great!25802

Vyoral from Oakley, Idaho (United States) says (19/Jun/2003):
  Amazing!!!
I had a bunch of fun playing this game. The graphics are incredile. The music is unbeatable. The plot is enchanting. The characters rock. I also like
the wide range of sidequests and fun minigames. I also like the battle system, how you stay on the ssame map and the battle animations were awesome. The Double and Triple techs ad a lot of spark to the game. I actually first played it when I was really little and borrowed it from a friend. When I got older I hunted it down so I could experience it again. That says a lot about the replay value. The multiple endings and new game plus made it fun, too.
Everything considered, I give this game Ten out of ten.

Best game ever!42733

Lydia says (2/Oct/2004):
I absolutely love Chrono Trigger! It's the best game ever because it has unique characters (which you get to name, if you want), and it has secrets and helpful little hints hidden all over the place. It provides a very interesting mission, which always surprises you and has a twist to it. I remember my older sister always used to let me play it, and from then I was hooked. I went out and bought my own copy and I think it's the best decision I've ever made. If you haven't tried it, go out and buy the game. I promise it'll be worth the money (and the time!).

Best RPG... Ever...8247

tzsjynx from Orlando Florida says (4/Jul/2002):
I Just finished the game, for the first time in a while since I had it on SNES. This game has heart... I have seen the Moonlight Parade so many times, and seeing all the people leave still is touching, and seeing the Epoch go through each of their times is also. The new Cinematics are great, but they aren't even needed, this game is Godly. Chrono Cross was cool, but I would give it a 7 or 8, it lacked the feeling that CT had. I havnt heard of a sequil, but apparently all these people are sure one is coming out (apparently with 15 different names.)

I've played many rpg games before but whoa I was hooked on the game.Although that was a long time ago I still remember the time when I played Chrono Trigger I couldn't let go of the controller.I've even skipped school ones just to play the game!!They should remake the game for X-BOX,GAMECUBE and PS2.Imagine that the graphics would be 10x better than before(i still like the graphics though).Anyways the music was AWESOME especially the BATTLE THEME and the OPENING THEME.Overall Chrono Trigger is the BEST game ever made!!!!!!!!!

This game is so good the should make a sequel to it34801

A gamer from Seattle, Washington USA says (6/Nov/2003):
I love how it the uses time traveling and isn't like our world and much more interesting. This game is really fun on Active mode because battles go a lot faster than other RPG's were you could just sit their forever its much more realistic for an RPG game. That would be awesome if they make a Super Smash Bros. type of fighting game with all the characters because none of them suck unlike other RPG's where one or a few of the character suck and one guy is super buff.
