Chrono Trigger's Magic Is Still Alive | | Unknown Mooma from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA says (7/Aug/2002): | I don't know if it's because this is the second rpg/game that I have played, or because I played this game at a young age, but I feel not many of today's rpgs, or even games can even come close to the spark of wonder that this game can bring. To this day, I still tie this game with Final Fantasy 3/6. Obviously then, CT's magic cannot come from graphics, although, Chrono Trigger, for its day, had beautiful graphics that, by some people, could still be considered beautiful today. Along with the colorful scenes the game brings, the "new-and-improved version" of Chrono Trigger brings great anime scenes done by Dragonball Z's artist, Akira Toriyama, which adds even MORE depth to this already exhilarating game. The new version of CT, for the Playstation, also comes along with another great Square classic, Final Fantasy 2/4, in a package called Final Fantasy Chronicles.
Now, having talked about CT's art, let's not forget music! The music comes from the amazing mind of Yasunori Mitsuda (I'm pretty sure!?). Some of the best music I have heard (And I'm not just talking about game music) has come from the Chrono Series; so very beautiful, that you might even want to just have the music itself! The replay on the Chronicles; just get New Game+ and enjoy the whole story all over again. The game just happens to have multiple endings (Showing just how in-depth and detailed some rpgs' worlds are), depending on the actions you take. The gameplay is also amazing; this game isn't too easy, but not astoundingly difficult either. The game's length is good. This game isn't all that long, though, and I'm only wishing it could have lasted MUCH longer. But, don't be bummed out about this only flaw; it might have just been a short game for me because I didn't level up enough, or it just went by too fast (Time flies when you're having fun!). So, obviously this game is lots of fun but, like any other good rpg/game, it takes hard work to receive just EVERYTHING that an amazing game like this has to offer. When it comes to originality, this game has got it, hands down. There is not another game, that I have seen, that has a storyline quite like this one. You know how you always want a game with memorable characters, characters that you wish WERE real? Well, this is one of those games: Crono, who voices his thoughts through his kind actions; Lucca, with a past who's you can forever change; Marla, although a future queen, she would give it all up for her closest friends; Frog, if you look past the outside, inside, he is a true human; Robo, a strong will and a mighty heart, shows love for all his new friends; and Ayla, strong, muscley, but truly soft inside when it comes to protecting her allies. Don't pass this game up; it would be like passing up 6 lifetime-friends (OK, not lifetime, but at least for many, many hours...hehe). So, finally, here is a little bit of what the story is about. You start off as a boy who lives with his mother, with his one friend, Lucca. This boy is Crono. Lucca's invention, turns out to be some sort of time-warp, sending them to era like, 65,000,000 AD, 600 AD, and 2300 AD. In these eras, they encounter many adventures, dangers, ... and friends. It may sound corny, but the further you get into the game, the deeper the story gets. As you can see I've grown a passion for this game (What can I say? I'm an RPG freak). Talk FF or CT with me anytime. You can also come to like this game , even if you aren't that big on rpgs. I only hope this review was efficient enough for you gamers. And sorry I couldn't find any big flaws to this game, but, at least to me, there aren't ANY! Hehe. About the current topic, on whether this game would be better if it updated its graphics to look like today's games, I think that is up to how your mind works. See, I do believe that in SOME cases, IF this game is redone right, the improved look would actually bring more depth to the game, and actually make it seem MORE alive and true, and real. But if they take away the magic of Crono's world, NON-random battles, the techs that only bring the characters more together and stronger in battle, and all the other wonderful aspects of this game, I believe that only then would the graphics bring an illness to this already great game. So if this game IS to be redone, it should be done right (If you know what I'm trying to say). OK, now stop reading, and go play Chrono Trigger. Sorry to have taken up your playing time, hehe...
| Best RPG... Ever... | | tzsjynx from Orlando Florida says (4/Jul/2002): | I Just finished the game, for the first time in a while since I had it on SNES. This game has heart... I have seen the Moonlight Parade so many times, and seeing all the people leave still is touching, and seeing the Epoch go through each of their times is also. The new Cinematics are great, but they aren't even needed, this game is Godly. Chrono Cross was cool, but I would give it a 7 or 8, it lacked the feeling that CT had. I havnt heard of a sequil, but apparently all these people are sure one is coming out (apparently with 15 different names.)
| Chrono Trigger: from 1,000,000 BC to 2300 AD | | The rpGamer from Mount Holly, NJ, USA says (16/Jun/2002): | You look at this and say "well a lot of games have ratings like this" but once you play the game, you find out how litteral it is. You can time travel to a couple eras of time. From 1,000,000 BC up to 2300 AD. The graphics in this game is just amazing for it's time, and above that the game's storyline is just extrordinary. I mean WOW. I am playing it and thinking to myself "Oh, God? Did you make this game? For I know you are the only one who could." Of corse I didnt mean it, but this game does feel like it could have been made by God. The Anime pictures and cartoons are just great and fit in with the story and on top of that it has a great storyline! OH WOW! What a super deal! It is definitly worth that 40$! And you get Final Fantasy IV with it too! (in the Final Fantasy Cronicles package)Buy yours now cause i hear that Sqauresoft is going to retire it. I also reconmend Chrono Cross, the sequel. And I just can't wait for the third one, Chrono Scarr (or something like that) to come out!
| Chrono Trigger is de best!!!!!!! | | Bauhaumut Eagle from Wallingford, Connecticut, USA says (15/Jun/2002): | Chrono Trigger has touched my heart ever since my bro started playing it when I was five! ('Course it was easy for him...) I've completed this game numerous times and it has never gotten old. I bet some people who have played this game think the same that Chrono Trigger is de best 2 dimentional 1995 game in de world!! And the sequel, Chrono Cross and the remake is also very cool too. It's graphics are de best. (Just some of de best 1995 Squaresoft Chrono Trigger project.) Wouldn't it be cool if there was a Chrono Trigger game that looks like Chrono Cross? Only time shall tell. (Let's just hope that Chrono Break [The third Chrono sieres game] combines Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross into one game.
| More Final Fantasy Magic | | Chrono Serge from Warner Robins, GA USA says (29/Apr/2002): | Being a devout Final Fantasy fan after playing Final Fantasies VII-IX, I decided to catch up on some earlier Final Fantasy titles I had missed, because there had been many remakes like Final Fantasy Anthology and Chronicles. I went to the store and found Final Fantasy Chronicles, which as everyone knows contains Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, each on separate discs. After purchasing this title and getting home, I popped in FF IV, got to the first save point, and was killed in a random battle soon after. I then decided to try the other title, Chrono Trigger. The only RPGs I had ever played were in the Final Fantasy series, so I thought that maybe this would come close to the magic of Final Fantasy. It was just a time-traveling adventure; nothing special there, right? Man, was I surprised. Not because of the graphics; even though Chrono Trigger’s graphics were great during its original release in 1995 on the Super Nintendo (Super Famicom in Japan), it still didn’t have the mind boggling graphics of today’s systems. But Chrono Trigger had something more. It had the same Final Fantasy magic (well, I guess it should now be called the Squaresoft magic.) Consisting of a deep storyline, numerous magic spells (such as fire, ice, and lightning), and unforgettable characters, this game really is a spectacle to behold, only rivaled in its greatness by its successor, Chrono Cross. This is a game that should be in every RPG player’s collection. And if you don’t play RPGs and are looking for something new, Chrono Trigger is a great game to get started with. It’s just too bad slow load times had to steal away from its magic. Even so, Chrono Trigger is awesome and should not be overlooked.
**The game rating is now being changed by me. Games are now rated on a 5-point scale. Each point is associated with a separate category, and the categories consist of: Graphics 1.0, Load times 0.5, Replay value 0.5, Playability 1.0, Gameplay 1.0. Each category can receive either a full point (1.0), one half of a point (0.5), or no points (0). Get the picture?**
| Chrono Trigger Review | | Kelly Sorenson from Kennewick, WA USA says (22/Mar/2002): | I'll be honest, I didn't have a SNES to play this on so I went with the next obvious choice. I got an snes emulator and rom of Chrono Trigger. If I have to go to jail for it, it will have definitely been worth it. This game really is just an awesome display of what is possible through some solid gameplay and a tight story. The graphics fit very well, aside from the fact that they were 'dated'. But it didn't matter. While a story can be told without pictures, you always have some in your head. In video games, graphics are really only there so you can see what's going on. Or get a better feel for the surroundings, but either way the story is still there. As for Chrono Trigger's story, you'll soak it up and hope it doesn't stop. There was always another corner you'll need to peek around before deciding it was time for bed. That should be the definition of a good game, how much sleep you miss. Having a decent stable of characters is also desirable.
In fact, everytime a new character came onto the scene you might feel a little uncomfortable with them. But the delivery of practically everything story-wise is so complete that within minutes of the new character arriving, a sort of bond grows between you both. Later on in the game you come to a point where you must leave a character 'behind', and this is difficult. Each one is necessary, but not all can come along. You can only have two party members with you while playing through.
The gameplay works great with the story. Other party members aren't 'absorbed' into you, they walk behind and follow you everywhere. If you jump down a cliff, they're right behind you (if that's not devotion...). The battles are quite the same in that the enemy doesn't just appear, they're on the world map in front of you. You can choose to carefully walk around, or walk into them and start brawling. The battle system is old school turn based and fortunately this works as an advantage. A lot of the battles require strategy, not just mindless tapping of the buttons.
This game really delivers on all fronts of video gaming. The only reason it doesn't get the perfect score is it's tendency to become repetitive. Which is definitely something you can easily overlook. So if you're in for a good time that's sure to last a while, go out and get this game. It can be found on the Final Fantasy Chronicles package that comes with Final Fantasy IV for the PS One.

| This game kicks ass, buy ASAP!! | | DJ ASIAN from CAKIFORNIA, USA says (16/Oct/2001): | Cgrono Trigger is one of the best RPG games ever! You can use magic, techs, and 3 character combinations, which are the best. This is a great game if you want to see eleven different endings and cool cinematics scenes during the game. You'll never get tired of this game because its very addicting and challenging. Buy this game QUICKLY because it is vary rare to find for the SNES and it might be a little dificult to find for the playstation also.
| Buy This Game ASAP!!! | | DJ says (17/Aug/2001): | This game is the coolest RPG that Squaresoft has ever made besides FF3/6 and 7. In this you get magic, Techs and Dual Techs and Triple Techs! It has the coolest spells, Cinematics (movies) and everything. It is worth paying $40 - $50 but you also get FF4 with it!!! Final Fantasy Chronicles is the best ever.
| Buy this game!!! | | Matt from Marquette, Michagan, USA says (23/Jul/2001): | I heard of this game through a friend. I didn't think much of it at first but then it came to Playstation. So I ran out and bought it, and what I discovered was the second best RPG ever made!!! Squaresoft combined the best battling system with an awsome plot and new anime style FMVs. I don't want to give anything away but this game is definatly worth the forty bucks plus you get Final Fantasy IV with it!!!!!
| This game started RPGs | | Duo Maxwell from USA, Indiana says (31/Oct/2000): | OK, now this game is one if not THE best game ever. It's incredible graphics and awesome story make it the number one RPG in the history of gaming. The graphics have a cartoony style but are still really nice, I think these are better in their own way then the graphics of some N64 games. The story to this game is beyond belief, with an endless amount of ways to beat it and many different endings. It's definetly good for those who like to play games over and over. The score for the game is quite nice with great themes and well...just good music! The characters are very well depveloped also, you learn a lot about them, and kinda get to know them. The main theme of the story is all about...well..take the name; chrono stands for chronological, and trigger means...um...trigger, so the point is to fix something and put it back like it should be - but i won't tell ya what! Now I'm not dissing the Final Fantasy Series but I totaly think that this game outrates FF by a long shot. So for any of RPG lovers such as myself, GET THIS GAME!!!!!!!
