Pretty good | | Dogbert's Messiah from Somewhere, Canada says (24/Jan/2002): | I loved the additions, I'm a REALTIME strategy-ish person, and that was great. The graphics weren't great compared to my PS2, but, it's a PS2! Music was repetitive, but I don't listen to it much. Random battles are for experience.
Now, the guy who said crap and mentioned the blond, spiky hair. Look at ALL japanese animé. Hey, look, EVERYBODY has blond, spiky hair, or black, spiky hair, or WEIRD-COLOURED, spiky hair. The plot was actually amazing, some of the stuff you could guess, others were pretty 'out there' as far as clues go, but once you hear the result, you NOTICE THE CLUES!
No challenge in the button presses? WOW, wtF have you been playing? Some of those additions are virtually impossible, unless you play LOD non-stop for 5 months.
What sucked was that Dart's weapons were basically useless, his only good one sucking (IMHO), because the only way to use it safely was with a Therapy Ring, but, if I just used the Claymore w/ a Therapy Ring, I NEVER had to block.
The final boss was very, very easy :(, the Therapy Ring Dart had made him almost unkillable, and the Sage Cloak Haschel had, and the Phantom Shield Miranda had created similar effects. The ending blew me away, though, I do kinda think they should have subtitles, as I couldn't hear a word they were saying.
Replay value is good so far, I haven't thrown my PS2 through a wall yet!
FF, FF, FF... WHY IS THAT THE ONLY THING I HEAR ON SOMETHING MENTIONING RPGS? WHY? I've gone onto a Baldur's Gate:Dark Alliances forum, and they mentioned that every second post. I have a feeling that if I play them, they'll SUCK, because everything mentioning them hasn't really convinced me of much. "well, um, the plot saved it"-sign of a crappy game
Limited inventory sucked, but it stayed okay, and I only ran out of gold when I bought things like Ultimate Wargods (it was for getting Dart's final addition!). If you ran out, you need to spend more time lvling. I note, however, that right at the start of the game in a replay, if you try to lvl up your additions quickly, you'll end up getting up to such high D' Levels that the bosses are easy. (Doel? he EXISTED? not after the second final burst, not really)
However, overall, it was a good game, although unchallenging
| The best game ever.EVER!!!!!!!!!! | | Cody Miller A.K.A. Psico O. from Rockford, Minnesota, USA says (12/Jan/2002): | The Legend of Dragoon is the best game ever. If you dis this game, I have one thing to say: GET MENTAL HELP!!!! YOU MUST HAVE BEEN BLINDFOLDED WITH YOUR FINGERS IN YOUR EARS WHILE YOU WERE PLAYING!!! This game can bring anyone to tears, that is, unless you are heartless or just cheated your way through the entire game.
When characters die or are replaced, you almost feel like it's a completely different character (even though the new ones inheiret all the stats from the old ones).
If nothing else, Dragoon is the best game ever because of the pure emotion at the end. I won't ruin it for the losers that beleive all that crap about a rip off of the Fianal Fantasy games. All in all, Dragoon is the best for its CG's, plot development, attacking sequence, and, most importantly, the fact that the crew at PlayStation could make a movie or a sequel (which would be the most awsome thing EVER!).
P.S. You guys at PlayStation are better than anyone else, but I won't say any names (*coughMicrosoftXBox).
| Kick Ass | | Blade from Missouri, USA says (28/Dec/2001): | It's good, but the fact that wepon images dont change and you follow a set path in the world map sucks so does the fact that their is no hidden characters also sucks I love additions and Stardust. The cost of weapons is odd seeing as you get only 20 gold a fight
| Totally the best game ever | | Aaron Dunsiger from New Glasgow, N.S, Canada says (26/Dec/2001): | I bought this game about a month ago, and I have not slept untill i got to the final boss. The Legend of Dragoon is the BEST rpg i have played in my life, and the additionals are truly an innovative way to keep your interest in the battles, and the dragoon transformations are a work of art, a definate 10 out of 10, and i have have played quite a few rpg's
| LOD #1 fan | | BJ from USA says (21/Dec/2001): | Legend Of Dragoon is my favorate game next to SSX Tricky but I give this game a 10. This is the best and I mean the best RPG I have ever played only that I am at the Valley Of The Corupted Gravity on the second disk. If any of you guys know how to get to the save point in the valley Email me and I will give you tips on every part in the game that you choose. Email me at BrianER2< remove me > at aol.com. peace out
| A great game | | Odin from Illinois says (18/Dec/2001): | One of the best games I have ever played. The battle system was great and the story was also good exept for some plots that seemed resued from other games. I would highly sugguest this game. My only complants are that you can't use your dragoons when you need them most. like in tha battle with the devine dragon. And that you can't use the devine dragoon spirit untill close to the end. But it is proof that there are other rpgs besides the final fantasys.
| One of the best RPG's I've ever played | | A gamer from West Virginia USA says (14/Dec/2001): | First of all I thought that the graphics could have used a little work, but they were good enough that it didn't ruin the concept of the game. Also the battle system was awesome (way better than the FF series). But it all comes down to the storyline. The story I thought was one of the best that could be written for any game. It made you feel like you were living the life of Dart. There were some flaws however. Since the game was basically about Dart's life you don't really learn much about the other character's.
What I think would make the game better is if they had voices instead of the little word boxes at the bottom of the screen. The little talk that was done in a persons voice doesn't really get the attention of most gamers. Personally though I thought the game was extremely thought out and that the producers of the game should be very proud of themselves. The Legend of Dragoon is one of the best RPG's made in the 20th century and probably will be for many years. I know most people think the FF series is better and I agree, but Ledgend of Dragoon will always keep its place among the greatest.
| The fair but not the best | | Jacksta from Australia says (12/Dec/2001): | The Legend of Dragoon was a good game but i was quite disappionted by the graphics (except during CG) and the monster creation.
The monsters in Legend of Dragoon looked really crap compared to the ff series, i was especially disappointed by the looks of the dragons in Legend of Dragoon. Think about it, this game is 50% about dragons and dragoons but how come the bloody creation of the dragons look so crap (especially the dragon at the start of the game, it looked like a bloody grasshopper).
I think the story line was great probably better than the ones in the ff series and the battle system with the additions is much better but there was enough CG and some of the translation of the game was quite dodgy.
But overall, i still liked the ff series better (my favourite was and is ff8), i h8 people who is dissing ff8. i reckon ff8 is much better than ff7 (by miles) especially the graphics and the battle system. Back to Legend of Dragoon, only if the creators of Legend of Dragoon and the creators FF series came together to make one game it would be the best.
So there i give Legend of Dragoon 7/10, because i think it is a fair game not the best game in the whole world like how people who gives it a rating 10/10, that is just not being realistic cause this game hasn't got everything that was positive, i know that there is always a negative to any game (even PS2 games).
However, this was still one of my favourite RPG's.
| FInal what? | | A gamer from Kingsport Tenn. Usa says (10/Dec/2001): | To all of you out their that say LOD is nothing but a FFVII rip off, answer me this. If the games are so similar then why did I love LOD and totally despise FFVII. Thats right all you Square fans, I HATE FFVII. It has ruined the genre. The addition system is a little hard to get used to but take the time to figure it out and its a blast. Not having to work for damage is not only a cop out but its boreing. DOn't get me wrong with the exception of VII and VIII I love FF. The few of you out thier that don;t like the game for reasons other than it threatens FF, you are entitled to your opinion. Those of you that hate it because many of us prefer it to FF, GROW UP. Yah the maney thing is irritating but its more real that way. The lack of money and 32 item limit make the game harder. LOD is the first RPG in years that it took me more than two sittings to beat. No the graphics are'nt FFVII and certainly not FFVIII but is that what it is really about? The only real draw back I have seen is the dividing of experience.
Any way I love the game. The story is wonderful and the charators interact very well. THe additions add to the game in my opionion. Fix the experience and it would be perfect. I will be chomping at the bit for the sequal.
| Props to this game, none to the idiots! | | Mikey from Some place far away, USA says (7/Nov/2001): | OK OK, enough!
To all the ppl that rate this game a 1 star. How in the world can you "HATE" this game. I loved this game so much, and from looking at this page, so have many many others.
And hey, to all that say it was a rip off to the Final Fantasy series, listen up!!!! Why don't you look on the front cover and of FFVII and be amazed to see that Sony's logo is on it, so, that is not steeling when they helped make the other games.
The story line to this game was fantastic! The graphics were great, and the entire battle and gameplay was great too! I give SONY 100% satisfaction with this game and encourage them on making LOD 2 within the next few years. Everything was awsome if not perfict! I am not stepping on anyones foot, but I think that all the negitive comments are usless and come from the real sore loosers. (Don't worry, I bet your mommies still love you) Just look at all the work that SONY put into this game. 3 years! If you put 3 years into making a game and eveyone like some of you, downgrade it, it makes no money, would you like it.
BE NICE!
And look into what you are saying 1st instead of just crapping something stupid out.
| one of the worst combat systems ever | | Andrew Tymms from Liverpool, England says (3/Nov/2001): | legend of dragoon, what to say, the game is very pleasing to the eye, nice graphics good character interactions and some nice but very loooooong winded magic spells that just seem to make this game drag on. If only there was a way to cut this out. like final fantasy eight the spells take too long and ruin the fights, they may look nice but they just don't beat the short and to the point spells that other games have, this is very dissapointing. The boss battles are also very frustrating with the boss attacking upto three times at once wiping your entire party, and theres nothing you can do about it. The addition feature in the game is enjoyable but at points you tend to notice that you missed one even thought on screen it shows it as being succesful, Escially when you are a dragoon you have to press the button before the dial gets all the way round.
The rest of the game is very well done with a great story line with a few good twists in there. The fmv scenes are very nice too and thankfully theres more game than there is fmv unlike final fantasy eight, which has too much. The map mode is dissapointingly small and the cities are too large making you wander around for ages when you would just rather get into the action. I did enjoy this game on the hole but the boss battles really frustrated me, and could of been a lot better. On the hole a very good game, but if your new to the rpg genre i'd have to reccomend the final fantasy chronicles, as the enjoy level is a lot higher.
| AngelScytheN2 | | Kyle from West Chester, Ohio says (1/Nov/2001): | I've played a lot of games over the years but I'd say this is one of the better ones. Yeah the some of the characters do has some physical resemblence to the FF series characters, but everyone has a unique personality.
-AngelScytheN2
| Stop Comparing this game to the Final Fantasy series!! Its better! | | Justin Brake from Chillicothe, Ohio, United States says (17/Oct/2001): | Ok. Whats this whole deal about it being compared to Final Fantasy???? I think this blows the lid off of RPGS completely. The graphics, movies, battle system, I could go on forever listing the good things about this game. Most people have gotten use to the stupid Final Fantasy Series, which I do like but these people look for things to compare this game to, to make Legend of Dragoon look bad. Oh big deal Dart has blond hair like cloud!!!! Who gives a crap,I mean should he have purple hair??!! I mean its like saying that if I have blond hair and you do, then you copied off of me!!! If you guys don't like the game so what, sony helped make FF 5,6,7,8,9,10, and soon 11 and they also made LOD. All they did was take ideas. So I think those people should shut up because they have no idea what the hell they are talking about.
| Great game....if only it wasn't full of rip-offs | | EON from California, USA says (15/Oct/2001): | First off, the good side
Additions - frustrating at first but makes turned-based combat a little bit more exciting.
Dragoon transformations - great animation
Dragoon spells - best looking "non-final-fantasy" spell animation
The bad side
Item capacity - 32 items??? what were they thinking. Number one flaw
Map exploration (or lack thereof) - huge map, but very little area to explore.
Leveling - 10 exp split up between the characters...wtf???
No critical hits - basically gets rid of the "luck factor"
Spell Items - item capacity renders these almost useless
Very little "true spells" - less than 40 dragoon spells
Almost linear story
lots of rip-offs
Dart -> Cloud
Shana -> Tifa
Lavitz -> Cid Highwind (had to put the last name...to many Cids)
Albert -> Edgar Figaro (from ff3/6 for those of us unfortunate enough to miss out on this game)
Kongol -> Barret (they look like they're identical twins)
Rose -> Selina, from Septerra Core (they both are very different from the rest, status-wise, and have the same anti-social, cold, annoying attitude.
Shana's dragoon transformation looks rather "sailormoon-ish"
| Awesome game xcept... | | Xeifer from MO, USA says (13/Oct/2001): | This game is the only RPG that can top all the others. There is so much replay value, depth...Man! One bad thing though...You can't pause it!! Most people look over that, but it's important cuz my playing time should be 60:00 hrs at the 4th disk but it says 100:00 because I've had to leave it on while I go to school or church.
| Why people dis this game, I'll never know... This game is one of the best RPGs I have ever played!!!!! | | RPG rater from Rock Island, Illionois says (4/Oct/2001): | I at first got this game because of the fact that it was a RPG type of game. I'll tell you, this game rocks!!!
The graphics on the characters are sharp, especially during the FMVs. The music helps lead you through the game, and it sounds awesome!!! The voices, there's only one way to explain it: they kick rear-end!!!
Why people dis it, I may never know, but in my opinion, this game rules!!!!!!!!
| A Good Game (I don't know what your problem is) | | Greg from Burke (Virginia), USA says (23/Aug/2001): | I've gone around the page reading all the ratings various people gave and a few caught my eye. Particularly the ones that gave Dragoon a one-star rating. I was completely amazed at the one titled "crap' written by cecil. I disagreed with ALMOST EVERY SINGLE THING about Legend of Dragoon that he said. He said it was unrealistic. I think it's just as realistic as other RPGs (Final Fantasy seiries, Wild Arms 1 and 2, and Legend of Legaia for starters).
He said there was bad voice acting. I thought all the voices were good and in character. I personally am pleased that there was any voice acting to begin with. Voices are very rare to begin with. I can only think of three RPGs that use voices regularly (Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Brave Fencer Musashi).
Let's see... what's next, bad graphics. EXCUSE ME??? The backgrounds are beautiful and the characters are fairly detailed.
The only concievable place with bad graphics is the people in the normal field play.
I'm not even going to touch on the music but I do believe that it flowes and is appropriate for each dungeon/battle.
The battle system was revolutionary with the additions and Spirit Points while the battle indicator (the spinning triangle that is above Dart's head that is either blue, yellow, or red) is very helpful and turning into Dragoons is cool looking and original.
The only fault I can find is that it's too easy. Hence the 9. Yes many ideas were taken from Final Fantasy 7 but that is for one simple reason. They worked. I engoyed the similarities for the sheer nostalgia of it as Final Fantasy 7 is my fav game Dragoon being #2.
I don't mean to be picking on one review but the other trashing ones were pretty identical. And besides that one gave me a headache.
| Review of Dragoon (not FFVII) | | Jupiter from Atlanta, USA says (15/Aug/2001): | Dragoon was a well thought out came all though it was really easy. Did anyone else find that they didn't have to transform into a Dragoon ONCE during the last battle? Anyway...the graphics were really good a far cry above those on FFVII, about on par with FFVIII. They seemed to be able to fit a TON of gameplay on each disc, which was really nice. The translation was really weak however. I actually found myself laughing at the poor translation when I should have been concerned for the characters! I don't really think that Dragoon is a blatent rip off of FFVII. The whole child hood friend in love with the dashing hero storyline is so played. Even BEFORE FFVII. Get over it, you guys. The game was overall pretty fun to play. I think that the creators took down the battle challenge factor because of the intorduction of additions. I don't think that they knew gamers would pick it up so well. The additions thing really did improve the battles and made them MUCH more fun than some of the FF series. Over all the game is very playable (even if the Shana Dart relationship does feel fake!)
| This game is totally the best | | Zack says (10/Aug/2001): | This game had it all. A edgy story line, good music and enemies, and stuff you wouldnt expect happen at all. The end especially is the best but i wont reveal that to you who havent played it. I loved it. The graphics were great but it dont take much to impress me. Its just as good as the PS2 i think. The PS2 (to me) doesnt have any different graphics, especialy in Twisted Metal Black (whick is a game that totally rocks.
| A fun, but easy RPG | | Andre Dionne from Muskego, Wisconsin, USA says (1/Aug/2001): | Legend of Dragoon was definitely one of my favorite RPG's for Playstation. It had a fairly good storyline, and you weren't stuck with the same characters throughout the game. Unfortunately, it was also a very easy game. The only challenge was the addition system, which I thought was pretty cool. I've noticed that as they make more and more RPG's they're getting easier and easier to beat. I beat Legend of Dragoon in under 30 hours the first time through without dying once. I miss the challenge that RPG's like Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, and Chrono Trigger had. Final Fantasy 8 totally sucked with its magic as something you draw from enemies and the fact that there were actually very few random enemies ((they just became more powerful throughout the game)). Back to Legend of Dragoon, I also thought changing into Dragoons was cool, although the graphics could have been better. I mean, what was taking up the space of 4 discs if the graphics weren't that good, plus, when you get Coolon, you have to change discs to go to an earlier part of the game ((unlike FF7)). Overall, many good games have their problems, which is why I gave this game a 9.
