With many, many good RPGs out there, it is hard to put one at the top of the list. FF7 was incredible, FF8 was disappointing, Vagrant was OK, but now, with the introduction of The Legend of Dragoon, the effort to put one at the top of the list is finally possible. A word on graphics: With enhanced character rendering and killer cinematics, LOD is in a class of its own (for example, when Rose and Dart fall off the Queen Fury, the cinematic of the war between Dragoon and Winglies is amazing). The game's sounds also contribute to its greatness, with the pleasing world map sounds to the chilling boss music, it is second to none. There are many games out there with confusing controls as well as numerous unnecessary menus. LOD eliminates all of these problems with great ease thus continuing to allow easy controls and smoother, faster gameplay. There is no question about it, with so many RPGs out there, The Legend of Dragoon leads the pack. It is the pioneer for the new wave of RPG gaming, and a healthy "spokesperson" for millenium RPGs. It will be hard to replace or even match this one.

Before detailing why this game is not so great, I will outline a few pros of Legend of Dragoon.
-Beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds and some of the best fmv your likely to see
-Innovative and fun battle system
-Good music. The tune that plays when your about to fight a boss is great and revs you up for a tough fight.
-Although the plot as a whole is fairly poor, there are a number of twists revealed towards the end which save some grace.
However, I cannot help but be disappointed with this game.I finished the game over a week, watched the final glorious cut scene, but after all was said and done, i could not help but feel unfulfilled by the entire experience. My biggest complaint would have to be the initial slow pace to the plot. The story only really starts to get interesting during disc 3 and by then, the game is almost over!
Anyone who has played games, especially rpgs, for a long time, can tell the difference between a good game and a great one. Every time i pick up an rpg, I am forced to compare them to the unsurpassed brilliance of games such as Final Fantasy 7 or Chrono Cross. I have played a great many rpgs, yet when picking up titles such as these, I still feel an extra something, which I didnt feel when I played Legend of Dragoon.Rpg masterpieces such as these have an aura, which perhaps only Squaresoft has been able to capture. We remember the characters and music of games such as these long after we have finished them. Anyone who has finished Final Fantasy 7 are sure to remember the charismatic and evil Sephiroth, or breeding Chocobos to find the secret materia 'Knights of the Realm'. When I started playing Legend of Dragoon, i felt more like 'here I go again, another rpg' and after I had finished it, I wasn't really left with any happy memories. Game developers should be aware that great graphics dont mean a great rpg. Take Xenogears for instance. Although not matching Legend of Dragoon graphically, as a whole, Xenogears takes Legend of Dragoon to the cleaners. Those who are just beginning on their rpg adventures may find this brilliant and be satisfied. Yet long time rpg players, who where initiated with greats such as Chrono Trigger , Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy 6 should look elsewhere. The following is a list of the top 5 rpgs available for the playstation. BUY THESE INSTEAD! I SWEAR ABSOLUTE ALLEGIANCE TO THESE TITLES FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE.

This is your average rpg game with a large twist. The characters can change into cool dragon-human creatures with super strength. The battle style is different from most games with additions to attacks magic without and with transformation and a few other little secrets. It has four discs with a $hit load off playing time and an entricate plot you wouldn't belive. Unlike most American games it has about five hundred different creatures and a hundred of those are bosses. You'll almost never find the same creature in two areas although you may find two of the same type like plague and normal rats. This game is extremely hard (which is part of the fun) but is beatable with time so it's not for little wusses who don't like sitting for hours glued to the screen. GET THIS GAME, it's cheaper than most but kicks serious < remove me > at $$!!!!!!!

This game might be like every other game but it has something no one else dose. That is the dragoon change and fighting style. It is cool and your not sure what's coming up next. I like the ability to change chracters and they have alot of characters to choose from. They don't have very many minigames but they make up for it when they show the movies. I think this game has the best graphics out of all the RPG's I played and not only during the movies the backrounds are amazing. Well I think if you want something to make you stand up in the end and cry then this is the game for you. Oh, and the only reason you'll be crying is because the game is over and you done with it.

The Legend of Dragoon is the most enjoyable role playing game that I have played and enjoyed for some time. It is a relaxing break from the worn out Final Fantasy series which I say Squaresoft has went more toward graphics than story and the FF series has lost its flavor. Although The Legend of Dragoons' map outlay resembles FF somewhat it is 10 times better than any other rpg out there. The fact that it took them 3 years to make this game shows in its great graphics, original battle systems, awsome transformations, and a terrific story. This is a must have for any rpg and non rpg fans.

The game has great graphics with about 20 frames per. move.(really good metal slug only had 15) The rpg factor is awesome you have to work your way through the game working out puzzles and solving mysteries. Also your characters are able to turn into dragoon's and cast some really kick < remove me > at $$ magic. The only real draw back is that the game really leads you to every thing not allowing for you to make your own way.

The legeng of dragoon is the top game out of adventure games like ff7. ff7's nothing compared to the dragoon. Its the best graghic game I've ever seen the charactures are so cool. If you were to buy ff7 i recimend you to buy dragoon. The way they transform is awsome too. A little more diffrent from ff7 how they fight but thats the good part. I hope they make part 2. i'd realy buy the game but a little too much. but no problem you should definitly buy the dragoon. If you buy ff7 your missing out on the good stuff. Instead of 10 I give it 15. don't believe use try it yourself to know the true thing of this game.

The Legend of Dragoon is probably the best Rpg I have ever played. The graphics are top notch and the music kicks ***! The story is quite original and cool. The game embodies everything a good Rpg should. The battle system is outstanding and very challenging and the characters are likeable. A great adventure that I recommend to everyone, not just Rpg fans. EVERYONE!!!!!

Legend of dragoon is in my opinion the best RPG since Final fantasy VII. If you were disapointed from Final fantasy 8 (like i was) The legend of dragoon is just the thing you need.
It's just a Final fantasy 7 style RPG.
And the garphics are second to none, at least for an RPG.
I highly recomend you to buy this game, and as soon as possible.
PS. Station play is the best website for the Sony playstation's games.
