I've played a lot of games over the years but I'd say this is one of the better ones. Yeah the some of the characters do has some physical resemblence to the FF series characters, but everyone has a unique personality.

A great game |
| Odin from Illinois says (18/Dec/2001): |
One of the best games I have ever played. The battle system was great and the story was also good exept for some plots that seemed resued from other games. I would highly sugguest this game. My only complants are that you can't use your dragoons when you need them most. like in tha battle with the devine dragon. And that you can't use the devine dragoon spirit untill close to the end. But it is proof that there are other rpgs besides the final fantasys.

Listen Up!! |
| Dash Gallent from Kentucky U.S.A. says (24/Feb/2002): |
Alright, i'm sick of this! I'm trying to read this and all you people can talk about is Final Fantacy. Get off it. Yes, final fantasy is the best rpg ever made. No this isnt a rip off in any way though. Any game with a good plot is a good rpg (With a few exeptions of course.) Now this games graphics are pretty good. Graphics arnt everything though! The attack thing is original and a new interesting addition to a game. The plot was pretty well placed and I'm happy that I could get so in to the dragoon changes and stuff. The dragoon change with magic and a new attack was insperational to me as a writer. Now as to realations to another game. Give me more! Big men? You want a bunch of small scrawny kids doing the fighting. And oh, sombody might use a spear! How dare! They must be cid. Now ignorants. Cid uses spears and lances. The guy in this game uses a javalin. So naaa! And you think that as a main guy, if you travel with a hot chick for a year, that you wont hit on her. Then your gay! The girls is the same, you hang with a hunk for a while, you'll fall for his personality. Game or not! This games disigners are original and amazing. The stardust? I don't understand it, but i'm tottaly in to them. The item thing is more than aggrivating though! What is with that! They lost two stars just for that! The other is for its ignoring all characters but Dart. He's the main character, not the only one! Sheeash! Anyway...peace out!

| cry1build2get3 from Abilene, Tx ; U.S.A. says (6/Mar/2002): |
Most people base too much in graphics, and I'll admit that it doesn't have the best graphics until you get to the CG's. It makes up for that with the interesting twist on the carrying limit and the awesome new way of additions.

Good game, one of the best ever!! |
| Ash from Yakima says (10/Mar/2002): |
Well, i thought that LOD was one of the best games i've ever played. Sure, it could be better, but hey, it was better then FFT, and FF8, that doesn't say much, they both sucked!!! But come on, how can people compair Tifa with Shanna? They are in no way the same! Sure, they both like the hero of the story, but come on, no way Shanna can beat Tifa. Don't get me wrong, I love Shanna and Tifa both, but come on, no way are they related. I will admit, FF7 was the best R.P.G. ever made, but thired would have to be LOD (second would be Shining Force). I loved the battle system, and the transformations ruled!!! The only flaw would be you could only carry 32 items, it made it more realestic, but come on, i play R.P.G.s to get away from reality, not to stay in it. Other then that, really good story line, good graphics, and great charicters.
Dart and Cloud are in no way the same!! Come on, the buster sword rules!!!
My fav was Lavitz, he was the best, to bad Lloyd killed him, oh well.

LOD Rocks! |
| A gamer says (20/May/2002): |
To start out with, anyone that says that this game is a huge rip off of any RPG needs to be committed. It seems that the main thing the people are comparing this game to is FF7, especially characters. Well let me put in what I think. Dart vs. Cloud: Cloud was cold and rather dislikable in the begining of the game and was constantly feeling sorry for himself throughout; Dart on the other hand cared for everyone and thought only of the well being of others constantly. Shana vs. Tifa: Tifa was too wrapped up in her feelings for Cloud which made her, at least to me, rather annoying; Shana on the other hand let her feelings be known but never was constantly hanging on those feelings. Shana and Dart vs. Cloud and Tifa: Dart kinda figured from the small hints Shana was giving how she felt about him, but as he stated before he thought of her only as a sister; Cloud on the other hand would never have guessed it until it was practically thrown in his face. Lloyd vs. Sephiroth: Lloyd was misguided by the words of "Emperor Diaz" and eventually wound up helping Dart and company, Sephiroth on the other hand was just all around bad and would have sooner killed Cloud then helped him. Lavitz Death vs. Aerith's Death: Lavitz died when he was attacking Lloyd to save Albert and Lloyd killed him in self defense; Sephiroth killed Aeirth from behind like the coward he is just to stop her from praying to use Holy which as long as he lived couldn't activate anyway. As for Graphics, the CG cutscenes in LOD are far better than those of FF7. Mind you the normal cutscenes that used text are a bit...odd to say the least, the CG scenes are better as well as their use of voices makes it better because it helps you to better feel what the character is like from the tone. I much prefer the battle system of LOD to FF7. The additions are much more interesting than the Limit Breaks. Mind you some of the Limit Breaks put some of the additions to shame such as Clouds Omnislash but the difficulty in using the additions adds more fun to it as well as the odds that, unless you're using the Ultimate Wargod, there's a chance that an enemy might attempt a counter during the addition. Also the additions require a bit more thinking, than with the limit breaks, because with the additions you have the amount of SP they acquire and the amount of damage they do to take into consideration when choosing, with the limit breaks it's just go with the strongest. One of the main upsides though for FF7, the boss battles require a bit more strategy to beat than the ones in LOD. Like Ruby and Emerald weapon for instance. Now also though LOD does have it's downsides such as it's item pouch and map system. As well as some of it's akward animations. But those seem to be the only things that stick out more than anything. Story Line wise, I was able to get more into the LOD story line then the FF7 story. The FF7 story line seemed more like a massive Soap Opera that was almost non-stop. The LOD story line was neatly broken up into chapters and was a bit more palatable as well as more easily followed. Now I'm not condeming FF7, and it is an excellent game in it's own right. I mean if it weren't for that game I may have never even picked up Legend of Dragoon or any other RPGs for that matter. But it's not exactly the greatest game in existence either. And anyway, if you look at FF7, it's got rip offs as well in it. The fact of the matter is, no one RPG is 100% original in it's design. There will always be something in there from another RPG. But don't go basing all your desicions based on some bias desicion because you can't see past the few "rip-offs" that do exist to see the actual game itself. And not to base the game on biased desicions because you think that another game is the best one ever created. In conclusion, LOD is a well rounded game, with a few obvious bugs but nothing that detracts too much from the main gaming experience. But also FF7 is also a very good game as well with advantages over LOD. Now if only someone could take all the advantages of every RPG created and get rid of the downsides of each, they would have one sweet RPG.

This game is the best RPG in the whole RPG software. |
| Just a girl from OR says (14/Jun/2002): |
I think that LOD is better than ff7 because the characters are developed better and they express more of their feelings. The boss fights are great because you can choose whichever addition you want from the selection if you had completed the addtions and you can control the hits, like on Dart's Blazing Dynamo. You have to hit the X button correctly so it can impact, and by using this, the producers let us control how much damage we will want to inflict on the monsters. Albert has a strong addition, so you can make him mess up on his addition so that a weaker addition person like Meru can kill the monster with just one attack. Plus, the graphics are the coolest, I have never seen so cool some graphics can be. It looks so clean cut that it could have come from some sort of movie. Also the Setting and the meaning of the game don't stray from the main point. The game is very straightforward and you can't make a mistake and have to start the game all over. The setting of the game is not very hard to understand. People may say that Llyod and Dart and all the character seem similar to other characters from other games but I don't, they are all unique and have their own personality. So for all those people out there who own a Playstation or Playstation 2, and are looking for a RPG or any kind of game, I suggest you get this one.

what i have to say |
| Meg from USA says (25/Jun/2002): |
I think Legend of Dragoon is a very good game, but it had the same old guy has to rescue girl thing going on. The relationship between Dart and Shana was kind of annoying through the whole thing. Even though the romance situation was the same as every other game, the rest of the game was excellent. The plot twists kept me playing. I found myself surprised most of the time. The characters are very well developed. I personally think that Rose was best developed because you could see why she was so cold to others. I liked Meru the most, personally. She acted like a normal person, even though she wasn't a normal person. I think the battle systems were the best out of all the RPGs I've played. It let you have control of how the character attacked. The graphics were okay in the first 2 discs, but were best in my opinion on discs 3 and 4. The CG animation was cool, even though scarce until the last half of the game. The voice overs were fitting in the CG cinemation. The originality was pretty high. The only other game I heard the word "dragoons" was in Chrono Cross from SQUARE. Other than that Legend of Dragoon was unique, exciting game.

this game was the second best rpg ever |
| pepsi from e'ville usa says (8/Jul/2002): |
this game had nothin' to do with ff7 at all. i don't know what bonehead said that but they were wrong! this game had awsome graphics cool moves and stuff like that but ff7 has to be the most confuseing game i ever played.. ledgend of dragoon was a little to easy to get through it only took me a week and a half to get to disk four!! i've had ff7 for almost a year and i'm still on disk one! ledgend of dragoon is in my book the second besy role playin' game ever next to the entire final fantasy series which if i didn't mention yet are the greatest games ever of all time!!!!! back to dragoon now this game has out of this world graphics and the character developement is extreamly cool the bosses could be a little bit harder to beat but who's complaing. the only thing that would make this game better is if you could wander around the world map like on final fantasy 7,8,& 9. i myself give this game 8 stars and no more or no less reason being being trapped on the dotted path the 32 item rule and the not all that hard bosses. that my opinion and i'm stickin' to it.

I loved this game... |
| A gamer from Blay says (12/Jul/2002): |
The storyline on this game was just downright amazing. There was so many twists, you couldn't list 'em all in one review, or a hundred. Well developed, I don't give a dang what others say. It's fantastic. The graphics, during the most of the game, are so-so, but there are those times when this game pushes Playstation to its limits. People say this game is a copy of FF7. Don't listen to them. The battle system may be similar, and Dart and Shana's relationship is similar to that of other games, but what difference does that make? This game gets a 10 on everything from me.

| dustin from IOWA USA says (17/Jul/2002): |
well i thought the game was cool because it had the best transformations and it didnt have gfs like in the ff seirois (final fansty for those who dont know) it had bad grafisc but othe than that it wasnt that bad if you like rpg's than you should like this game it was one of my favorit games because it hand a loth of story changes in it like dart was presuing the black moster than he whants to find out what happend to shanna some of the caricters sucked like shanna heshatel and kongole but the others where ok. my favorite caricteris probly is lyod because he is quick and fast and good i recomend using rose all the time though she and dart are the best.

Legend of Dragoon is an alright game! |
| Mish from Pennsylvania, USA says (11/Oct/2002): |
Okay I'm not going to compair this to FF7.. if you like about it for a second.. you can also compair it to FF8.. with the saving of Shana all the time in the game.. just like you had to save Riona ALL the time in FF8 yeah but this is a lot different from many rpg games. Many people don't like it for the fact how a lot of the characters are just annoying, and others love it for the storyline. I'm replaying it again and can compair it only to FF8, and a little bit of FF7. But come on people just try to not compair so much. Sometimes its good to compair but to keep compairing about isn't going to give any more people any more ideas. This had very good grapics in it towards the end of the game. I for one person totally hated Shana for her over dose of saving her throughout the game and also how annoying she could be. Dart was an okay main character.. notice that mainly the main character has a sword.. a lot do.. try naming ALL the games that have main characters with a sword? Oh and most of the main characters have light hair besides a few games when they have dark hair. Lavtiz was a very good knight through the game up to a point, it was pretty funny to see how dearly he loved his mother. Meru was annoying.. I didn't really use her all that much. Rose(Rosemary) Just kick ass! She rocked up intill the end of the game with the final boss its not a good thing to use her. Kongol I guess he was alright.. even though I didn't understand him all that well. Shana's replacement was cool, and so was the fist fighter... most of these characters I can never figure out their names since I haven't played it in so long. Albert was a great character even if he was in the game for a long while Noble Blood demon is all that I can say but Lavtiz was very loyal to him. And I think thats it.. inless I'm forgetting anyone else. All that I can say is that you can compair and compair but try thinking to yourself is it really that worth it? All you need to do is say to yourself do you like the game? And go on from there to try to defeat it. ^^ Thats all I have to say. I give this a 9! Because it is a good game with some flaws of characters some you just didn't understand and other you did.

This serpasses even the Final fantasy series |
| Brendan from Holliston MA USA says (27/Oct/2002): |
When i first saw this game being played it looked like just another thing that might make my summer more interesting. I had no idea it would be this great. I found myself playing this game as perfectly as i could to get the best out of it. My friend and i both got the game and played it together even in some places over the phone. This game was so fantastic i have been scanning the internet trying my hardest to see if they have made a sequal. What the hell are the people at sony thinking. They have made 3 final fastasys before even preposing to make a sequal for LOD. Please dear god make a sequal because i am ready for another fun fulled adventure with another amazing ending. (i actually cried after the ending) Please make a sequal, a die hard fan. Brendan

You think Final Fantasy is great well move over guy with the big sword cause Dart will cut you down to size. I think it is better than Mario. So if you don't have it get. I think you will think it is the best game you have ever played. So I will say it again get it.

This game is more than fairly decent... |
| A gamer from Findlay, Ohio, U.S.A. says (17/Jan/2003): |
For starters...Any good R.P.G. has to have a good story-line, good battle-system, and a good set-up(such as the window displays, etc.) Legend of Dragoon has all of that listed and then some. Good story-line, fairly good graphics(although i don't think graphics are all that important if the story-line makes up for it) and a good battle-system. I like the addition thing(it's fairly tough but a challenge is good in a game) I have played many games before this one...mainly rpg's...and this particular game is in the top favorites...for sure......I would aslo encourage other rpg fans to try Chrono Trigger(of Final Fantasy Chronicles), Legend of Legaia(killer game!), Final Fantasy 7(beautiful game! one the best i've ever played) Final Fantasy 8, Breath of Fire 3(if your a dragon fan like me, BF3 is a good one!) and Mario RPG:Legend of the seven stars(for SNES,old but still fun) Overall, Legend of Dragoon is not only in my intersets as a good rpg but it's good for dragon lovers too. I hope you enjoyed my opinion of it.

Best RPG game since Chrono Cross |
| Paul from Montana, USA says (12/Mar/2003): |
I rate this program as a 9/10 because I haven't played every RPG game in existence, and I give those unplayed games the benefit of the doubt.
Okay, I'll try make this as articulate and short as possible, given the 200 word minimum limit. I must explain I am an old time RPGer. I played FFXII for about 2 hours, and was bored to tears. I don't get why everyone must compare games to FF, when FF is the latest in a grenre which has persisted since the days of text-based adventure games on the Commodore 64!
Back to The Legend of Dragoon. I can only compare this to Chrono Cross. I never played Chrono Trigger, but I thought Chrono Cross was the most enjoyable PSX game I had ever played. Eighty hours of play, and I was still having fun. Then I found LOD. I now have a standard to judge other games. FOD had everything I wanted in a game: EXCELLENT story line, character interaction/relationships, romance (2, as a matter of fact), fairly good battle sequences, and a weapon/items inventory which was fairly manageable. The FMVs are awsome, considering they were designed for the PS1. The only thing I would change in this entire game is the ability to select which fighting team member you wanted to use in a given battle.
Let me put it this way: the game spans 4 CDs. It is a combination of manual dexterity, and strategy. The "slash/bash" crowd will get a kick out of the skill needed to execute the various attack "additions". The "risk" crowd will enjoy figuring out the strategy of employing various spells, armor and attack sequences.
Everyone in my family was so enthralled with the game that when the first disk was finished, another family member moved it to our PS1 machine and started their own game. We just finished the first playthrough, and we have three other games going on two different disks. When we finished the first playthrough, the entire family was gathered around the screen, waiting for the climax of a major drama.
Find this game, play it, enjoy it, and get back to the basics of RPG'ing and forget the eye wash and hype.

The best game i've ever played |
| Keith Webster Jr. from Princeton, Florida USA says (16/Mar/2003): |
I never knew what this game was until my aunt bougt me the game. Now i'm hooked to the game. my friends have this game. it was like my own property. what more can i say, the game rocks, the action was jampacked, and the storyline just goes with it. i'm happy to say that this game was created for the PS console, if they ever make a part 2, i would be the first to by it.

unlike all the rest |
| JOE from California,USA says (26/Mar/2003): |
My favorite game of all time. I've beaten it 7 times and still playing. Every time is better than the last and I've memorized it entirely by heart. I love the storyline and how it fits with every character. The graphics on this game are better than any PlayStation 1 game I've played. I also enjoy how long it is. I know a lot of people who don't like long RPG's but it just makes me whant to strive to beat it and finally find out what happens. The only problem (and i meen the ONLY problem) is how the dialog is not insink with the motion of the mouths. Other than that I think the background music and sound effects are excelent and go perfectly with gameplay. Personally i think this game will never be matched except by a sequal. I am happy to see that it made it to the "Greatest Hits" title because it deserves it. I would be happy to see a sequal to it. This is just one of those games that you just cant do without. Its unlike any other and seemes to be a lot more realistic when it comes to detail on objects within the game, bacgrounds, characters, and definately the movies. It also seemed to look more organic than any other game that I've played for the PlayStation 1. Over all I beleive that it is the BEST PlayStation 1 game that I have ever played.
