good game, bad timing (continued) | | Shane (Solid_snake71730@yahoo.com) from El Dorado, Arkansas says (9/Dec/2005): | sorry this is so long(just has to be said)
When i Wrote my last review of this game, it was july 15 2003 and on this forrum(page 6). I wrote about how this game would be sooo much better if it had waited for better graphics. well... the better grahpics are finally here, only, squaresoft is saying that they will not be doing a remake. This would be sheer foolishness on their part. at the unvealing of the PS3, they used a revamped ff7 opening scene which is still available for download. this action got an unexpected response. fans of ff7 blew up in mass histaria. the response of squaresoft was exactly as i predicted, they say that "there will be no remake." mark my words again, this prediction WILL come true, there WILL be another FF7 game coming at us in the future, and not too far off at that. in the next 2 years...MAX...i think that square is already working on this and that they want to lower the hype so that they can work on it in peace. this isnt an unfounded prediction. look at the success and hype that is following the FF7 advent children movie. i have seen this movie, by the way, and it was GOOD!!!, my point was that there is sooo much demand that it would be foolish not to make the supply to meet it. we are talking BILLIONS. and yet... "square isn't remaking the game." and it was just a coincidence that the game was cosen for the PS3 demo... and that they just "made that scene for the demo." if you beleive that, BOW BEFORE ME AND FOR I AM KING OF THE WORLD!!!
| The good the great and final fantasy | | Umi Minori from Oregon, United States says (19/Dec/2005): | This game was great i loved to play it although it leaves you wanting more. This game will always have a place in my heart. I personaly think it should be redone so it looks a little better but i still loved the story. The greatest thing about it in my opinion was the charecters, however i did hate how aeris died that did get on my nerves a little although after her death i used my other people a lot more. Yuffie was a very fun person to get i did enjoy getting her because Yuffie is very entertaining and all the trouble she brings is even more fun! I love that how in the end it shows Red XIII again with kids it was very cute, i do however wish that there was more but just as the saying goes this isn't burger king you can't have it your way. A great game like this needs another game after it WHO IS WITH ME!? Well i guess i can live with the way it ends for now but i will not give up! This game had a very interesting story with it like nothing i had ever heard of before it really gets your attention I MEAN REALLY grabs ya.
| FantasyGurl | | Billie from Kentucky (USA) says (23/Jan/2006): | Imagine living in a world where there is no remorse, and a Huge Corporation is trying to make demise of the planet and you have all of your friends fighting next to your side. Does it get any better than this? Final Fantasy VII was a huge breakthrough for the RPG business, as well as the first game in North America to actually hit it big. Before Final Fantasy VII the life of RPG'S had went down the drain. In 1997 Final Fantasy VII was released and is what started it all for RPG'S. Ok so alot of people say the graphics aren't that good. Well if you actually played the game back in 1997, the graphics were the best thing around. The music was awesome, the gameplay keeps me comming back for more, and the Plot is full of twists and turns; you never know whats going to happen around the next corner. Plus Final Fantasy VII introduces and gives you a full length story behind every character, something that is vastly done with all of the other Final Fantasy Series. If you want to play a classic that will keep you hooked for years to come, and actually touches your emotions, Play Final Fantasy VII i guarantee you will love it, or your money back! (LOL)! ~Final Fantasy 4-Life~
| Great game no matter how you look at it! | | A gamer from Conway,N.H.,U.S.A says (27/Apr/2007): | FF7 is an awsome game. If you start playing it you WILL get hooked to it and it will become part of your life, i've already beaten it 4 times and i still havent completed all the side quests yet, its great. I love the look of the world in ff7 kinda dark and destroyed (in most parts) there are some very memorable sites in this game. The storyline is the best out of the series its so detailed and well thought out, and if your gonna play this game please take your time and read all of the sentences and enjoy the story becuase remember the whole point of an rpg is to get lost in a new world. It will leave you on the edge of your seat until the end of the game because of all of the twists and turns. and i think it has one of the best cast of characters i have ever seen, they're all very different from one another which makes them unforgetable. weather you like red xiii(lion) or Vincent they all have unique abilities to help make you'r way through this epic tale. The music for this game is so catchy i find my self humming the tunes at work constantly. The time span for this game is incredible! a standard time it takes to complete this game is at least 35-40 hrs!I don't care what anybody says the graphics are great! ecspecally for the year it was released.yeah thier a little choppy but who cares? you can still make them out. I rate this game a perfect 10!
| Awesome... but not best. | | Kyle M. from Brampton, Ontario, Canada says (9/Jun/2007): | I shall be frank. I adore Final Fantasy VII. I enjoy the plot line, the graphics were excellent for the time, and the characters were very likeable.
Having said that, the gameplay has suffered since Final Fantasy VI.
First of all, I will mention that graphic excellence does not impress me, although Final Fantasy VII does have it in spades. But I hated - I repeat, HATED - the materia system. It had some cool points; linking materia for added effects was cool.
But through the use of materia, the distinctiveness of each character became very limited. Effectively, anyone could do the same things as anyone else, which made the game very boring for me.
I'll give an example: In Final Fantasy VI, there's a level called the Fanatics Tower in which one could only use magic. Therefore, you'd have to be careful which characters you chose to enter it. Your team had to be trained very well in magic spells.
If that same level were in Final Fantasy VII, there would be no strategy needed. Anyone would plausibly be able to equip any magic, leaving any character distinctiveness - in this example, magical ability - in the dust.
*NOTE* After double-checking the review guidelines, I will explain that the reference to Final Fantasy VI was strictly to demonstrate the lack of distinctiveness in character ability in Final Fantasy VII and not as a direct comparison to state inferiority/superiority.
The redeeming factor in this area of gameplay comes from the Limit breaks, this I will admit. A good idea and a well thought-out principle. But that doesn't win back anything substantial for me to counter the game's flaws.
Before critics of this particular criticism come after me with hate mail, I'll ask you: is there any particular REASON, at any point in time, to choose, say, Cait Sith over Barret? Or Yuffie over Red XIII? Given the same materia, in either case, both could have the same abilities besides limit breaks, and it's less of a headache to change materia around. No particular strengths, no particular weaknesses, which is where the gameplay suffers.
I didn't mind the chocobo breeding, though. That was a fun element, as was the racing. But with the exception of collecting materia and finding secrets - and the fact that Vincent is just plain awesome - this game ends up tired and repetitive, and although it certainly captures interest throughout, it's certainly not the best Final Fantasy out there, nor the best RPG.
For the best RPG's, look to the SNES.
--Official Ratings--
Graphics: 10. It was a groundbreaking game graphics-wise, and brought Final Fantasy into the media hype.
Sound: 10. Nobuo Uematsu will always be a musical genius.
Gameplay: 4. For the reasons listed above.
Originality: 7.5. For a game in a long-running series, VII had a high level of ingenuity. As much as I disliked materia, it was certainly very clever.
Storyline: 8. Good, and very deep. Sephiroth as a villain, however, really doesn't impress me that much.
Overall: 7, appropriately enough.
| the best game period!!!!!!!!!!! | | Eric Mederos from covington georgia, usa says (29/Mar/2004): | this game is the best of all final fantasy games. much better then that piece of crap final fantasy x. to me i think this game is the longest and most addicting final fantasy game square enix (squaresoft) ever made.the game play is a perfect 10. the music is very catchy and will be in your head forever and ever.the graphics are good for a playstation but the people look like they have bumb bells for arms but is still cool lookin.you get a bunch of weapons and you can name all your characters ( i named my barret donkey kong haha lol). and the boss of the whole game is setheroth the coolest of all the bosses you could fight and no other final fantasy has except losers like... all who cares. you can even play in an arcade which is cool.you get to snow board and ride motorcycles. there's a lot of machines to ride like a buggy or suberine which is cool and also you can ride chocobo's (cubby chocobo = if you don't now what that means then never mind). there is a whole bunch of summons too like ifret and shiva and a whole bunch of other ones to find and use.if you don't like rpg's and you play this you'll will love it no matter what its so fun and i recommend that everyone who reads this to go out and buy it. it's a must have game that everyone should have.if you don't have a ps2 and don't won't one then get a ps1 instead ($30).it will ony cost $50 to get ff7 and psx trust me its that good. so no excuses peoples just get it or else be a loser like everyone else who says this game sucks (which is not a lot of people and very rare for anyone to say it sucks).
graphics:10 (for psx)
gameplay:10
sound:10
lifespan:10
fun factor:10
value:10
perfect 10's
p.s. final fantasy 10 sucks and is a peace of stinkin crap so there hahahahahah
| awesome | | A gamer says (3/Apr/2004): | I think this game blows any other ps1 or ps2 game out of the water!!!!!!its better than final fantasy 10-2 and way better than 10!!!!!on a more personal note i think the first disc to this game is way too long and could have left out a number of useless things in the disc....but other than that its an awesome game and i cant wait till the movie comes out!!!!!!!right now im trying to beat final fantasy nine and its pfretty kool but not as kool as seven!!!!!!!!! i hope you enjoy this game as much as i do!!!!and im a hardcore final fantasy fan!!!!I personally dont think they need some of the scenes where aeris talks to the planet because it makes her looked retarded and the whole idea about the date thing is kinda stupid!!!it has nothing to do with the story!!!!I felt that it was retarded and un called for!!!it just didnt make sense why it needed to be a date!!! im still trying to figure out a way to beat the game in under 48 hours!!!!its literally imposible!!!!I like challenges....final fantasy nine is definitaly not as long and i cant wait to beat it my favourite character is Quin or watever that stupid frogs name is...i just think its funny that he tries to eat everything!!!!!!especially when hes in a rat city and says "this place haves no yum-yums!!!!" i literally peed my pants laughing when he said that!!!!
| Turly one of the contentors for Best Game Ever! | | Matt S. from Milford, New Jersey, USA says (20/Mar/2004): | I love all the Final Fantasy's! Well for me example I love a game that will test my game playing skills, and this is one of. For Final Fantasy's go this is my favorite, because before I started playing FF7 I thought,"Oh, yeah! I'm the best at video games!"
News Flash I wasn't! I know half of you reading this atical are looking for cheats, well here's one I'm not giving you any, because there non, Now Take That in Your Pipe and Smoke It:)
Back on the game it self. The grafics are only 3/10 star material, but the game plot WOW! is perfect 10/10 star!
Also this one of those games you can't beat in a week, I'v tried, I have Gameshark. The music always has those catchy jingles I sometimes find myself humming those just before I go to sleep. You'll never find another game like, but it still has the same aspects as the other Final Fantasy's so Igive it an 8,1/2-10 stars. It's good to see actualy alot of chacters die in a game, thank god. Next I'll tell you a little somthing on each charector:)
Cloud: You will mistake him for some else
Tifa: Runs a bar(7th Heaven)
Aeris: An Ancient
Barett: hates those #$%&*^ Shinra
Vicent: Very misterios
Cid: One of his weapons is a broom
Yuffie: Spunkie little 14 year old
Cait Sith: Is somehow desieving you
Red XIII(13): Real name is Nanaki and is only 15 or 16 in dog years
| the best game ever | | Levi from Mission Canada says (8/Dec/2003): | one of the best games squaresoft has ever made.the storyline is great and the charecters kick butt.the new materia and the gold saucer are a great new area.the new american weapons are some of the most hardest bosses ever.i hope many people can play this game.the graphics are not the best but i hope you will all enjoy it.the music is pretty solid but the Sepheroth song at the end kicks butt.the graphics in final fantasy 6 are like Super Mario compared to this.cloud is a great main character and the new weapons are awesome.
for story line i give this game a 7.for graphics i give it a 6 and a half.for originality i give it an 8.for characters i give it 9 and a half.for over all i give it 10.this game is a great over all game.i hope it will rise above all others.the thing i don't get is that they call it mako instead of gaia.they called it gaia in some of the others.well, this game is one of squaresofts best.i hope you buy a copy.this game is usually cheap.
| The Greatest Game EVER! | | [XYZ] from Toronto, Canada says (15/Dec/2000): | I've just heard about stationplay.com and before I go about giving my points of view on other games, I have to give some respects to basically the GREATEST VIDEO GAME EVER. The graphics are stellar for its time, and are still pretty good as of today. The gameplay is flawless and there storyline will simply absorb you. I have honestly cleared this game multiple times, and there is literally to much to do. My review is not giving this game justice. It is simply amazing. 10 out of 10 in every department. It towers over FF8 and FF9. It set the standard for all Playstation RPG's and no other game has, in my opinion, come close. Perfect.
| A MUST HAVE GAME, IF YOU DONT OWN IT YOU SHOULD BUY IT!!! | | eminem from Queensland,Australia says (25/Dec/2000): | final fantasy 7 would have to be the BEST rpg i have played possible the best rpg ever.i think its better than final fantasy 8,it may not have the graphics like 8 but it makes up for that with the rest of the of the game the story line and gameplay is great and the battles.some boss battles are near impossible at first, takes time alot of time and practice oh and nights of round. game holds so many hidden secrets but the bit that i didnt like was that sepioroth was too easy for a final boss overall i think final fantasy 7 is better than ff8 in many ways.
| BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By JWK | | Jonathan from USA says (20/Jun/2001): | Final Fantasy has always been one of the best games on the market, But If you ask me the best game has to be Final fantasy VII. The plot of the game is awsome, starting off as a mercenary who is hired by a group called AVALANCHE, trying to blow up a reactor made by SHINRA who is basically sucking the life out of earth with there Plants. Something else i thought was awsome is that the main person of the game (CLOUD) Has this huge sword that he easily swings around on his back with ease. And the main Bad guy has the longest samarai sword ever. So, basically, if you are looking for the best RPG to buy get FINAL FANTASY VII.
| BEST-GAME-IN-THE-WORLD | | A Baxter from N.Ireland Londerry says (4/Jul/2003): | I love this game as it has a deep plot, good graphics and a great lifespan. Cloud by far is the coolest goodguy in any game I've played. This game also has LOTS!!! of mini games and sidequests like chocobo raceing and the battle arena. It has a great storyline that will make you want to play onto see what happens. This game has a great world map with lots of secrets thats makes you want to explore it again and again which final fantasy 8 and 9 have lost. The game is great fun to play and you will be playing it for around 50 to 60 hours as I have and if you do all the sidequests it will be alot longer. Once I started playing this game I couldn't stop and I would be up late at night playing this and then in the morning I would be straight up playing it.Once I completed the game I got a bit deprested so I started it again. The game has a good sound track you could sometimes just listen to the music. The sound track gos very well with the game and never is anoying to hear. If you beat the final boss and think you've completed eveything. I'm almost sure you're
wrong as there is so much to do.I give this game ten out of ten.
| The best ever game in the world | | Super-Saiyan 4 Goku from England, Liverpool says (9/Jul/2003): | Out of all the PlayStation games I've played, this definetly ranks first. The graphics and spectacular SFX make the combat seem real, the world map graphics produce splashes in water and the deserts, canyons, grasslands, marshes and the ocean are perfect. The most interesting part is the battle system with its ATB (Active Time Battle). The Materia system is fantastic and makes the battle system so much easier. The plot is amazing with all the characters having history with the Shinra, there are many mini-quests and most parts of the game are very life-like as you can buy new weapons and breed animals (Chocobos) for racing. This is an excellent game that you must buy, even if you're not an RPG fan.
| FINAL FANTASY MANIAC!!!! | | A gamer from London, England says (30/Jul/2003): | I played and completed all the final fantasy game except 1-5. Overall they were all good and very dramatic and exciting. (final fantay9 is too east though) i think final fantasy8 had the best graphics and some good new ideas on magic but final fantasy7 has easily the best story line. It is very dramatic and some may even call it breathe-taking...
Its virtually you unlocking all the pasts about all the characters and they are trying to save the planet. Its not like those usual games which is all smiles and happy through the whole game but can be sad at times. Lots of characters to choose from and slow-learners such as myself may need to complete the game 4-5 times to fully understand the whole game and all those hidden items and places to go :) All in all if you care the most about the graphics i will go for 8 which is also good but final fantasy7 is the best game play in the rpg world. SO GET YOUR BUTT RIGHT INTO THE GAME SHOP AND BUY ONE! I ASSURE YOU, THERE WILL BE NO BOREDOM FOR A LONG TIME.
| The greatest game on any system-ever. | | Daz from Mayo, Ireland says (5/Mar/2004): | Background- the first time I played this game at a friend's house, I had only ever owned Nintendo systems. I didn't think that any house could ever top their level of playability or immersion with character (Legend of Zelda for example), and I took every opportunity to slag off my mate for buying a playstation to begin with.
What can I say? I was hooked from the very first scene- I had never seen a game so involving or cinematic- it's like being in a movie. The first CG scene blew me away- still one of my greatest ever video gaming moments.
The reviewers who criticise the graphics are surely missing a major point- when this game was released, the graphics an(d particularly the motion capture scenes) were truly ground-breaking. The sound and music are wonderful, really capturing the spirit of the game. Story is king, and this still remains the best example of a story leading the gamer on through a quest. If it was a movie I would pay to watch it. The characters are top-notch too (has there ever been a baddie as kick-ass as Sephiroth-really?)
Overall the game design and playability are perfectly judged, and the game really isn't as difficult as people are saying (just l-o-o-n-g). This is a must-buy for any gamer, and the main reason why I will always have my playstation plugged into my tv for years to come.
| Square is known for final fantasy games, but out of them all-7 is the best! | | Cloud Strife from Toronto Canada says (6/Dec/2003): | hey-this is my third review on this site. ive done 1 for ff8(i wrote about how much it sucks)and 1 for ff9.i feel good to finnaly do a review for ff7.its my favourite game game ive ever played-its even better than 11.some people believe that ff7 is the first ff game that was ever made-they were unaware that nintendo had its own era of ff games too.when 7 came out it sold a bunch of copies-its even the best ff seller after 6 years.7 introduced many things to the ff series-the limit breaks to themateria system to the 3d graphics to the full motion cinema scenes to the fact of being thefirst cd title. the list goes on and on.ff7 didnt have the best graphics but in every other catogory,ff7 beat all the other ff games.7 was so popular, that square wanted to make a sequel.too bad mr.sakuguchi(the ff7 producer)didnt let them.besides, they were planning to make an ff game even more popular than 7-ff8.however square completly screwed up and 8 didnt make much money(it made less than legend of dragoon!)...8 was a total disaster.people started losing confidence in square- but square had hope in their next title-ff9.again,square screwed up(9 was a great game though)and didnt make as much money as 7 did.squares financal state was getting worse and they wanted to make a sequel to ff7. than again, they had to go on to 10. they were going to make 10-2 when they thought that if 1 sequel succeeds, another might.10 brought ALOT of money(not as much as 7 though).when ff10-2 came to japan it was a hit(again, not as popular as 7 though).so they decided to make ff7-2.however-they did something diffrent-its gonna be a movie.its awesome.i saw a clip of it, it had lots of action.there you go.there is the history of 7 and the beginning of 7-2.now lets get on with the main thing-how ff7 is today.ff7 is a great game(not in terms of graphics though).ff7 had the best story, sounds, music, gameplay, characters, battle system, customization, equipment customization and full motion cinema scenes(in terms of action, tragedy, backgrounds and parts of the story.)ff7 continues to sell even as i type and as you read this.its a greatest hits psx game.youll even find it in the best holiday gift guide today....and i bet, that by the time im my grandfather's age,ff will live on and 7 will still be the best seller and have ,like 50 sequels.now if they make a sequel to ff8 im gonna freakout and someonell bankrupt square for that piece of crap that they made called ff8...an ff game? no way.now ,about 7....well i guess i dont have words that are good enough to describe this great game(i have words to describe how much 8 sucks though).
| It's good but I think it could be better | | Liquid Snake from Long Beach, California says (16/Feb/2004): | This game can be the greatest game ever to most peaple but, under the surface hides flaws. First of all, I don't find walking to the Inn when your men are weak when all of a sudden a monster attacks you and its game over. Secondly, How come all of the cool players are weak!!?(Vincent, Yuffie, Cait Sith). Third, Some monsters are so strong you have to train for 2 days until you can beat him. But besides those things lies a game with cool FMV's(or whatever you call them), nice gameplay, cool story, and great charectors(even though the real cool ones suck!). It's good anyway you play it really, but those flaws can make you yell out in rage.(PS: If you know how to control Cid's plane after your on the wing of the Tiny Bronco contact me at thomas001111< remove me > at netzero.net! I'll contact you if you do!! Thanks!!:-). UHHHHH... I have to get to 200 words so UM... I'll just say this again If you know how to control Cid's plane after your on the wing of the Tiny Bronco contact me at thomas001111< remove me > at netzero.net! I'll contact you if you do!! Thanks!!:p.
| Final Fantasy 7...one of the greatest games of all time...(except FF9, it sucks) | | Fer from Maywood, United States says (9/Apr/2004): | I recently read a comment about Final Fantasy 7. Some stupid lowlife retard said what was the point of the date scene in FF7. Dude, if you can't handle a little romance, I don't know what's happening. He claims to be a "hardcore Final Fantasy fan," but all I saw was some stupid f< remove me > at #$ face who seems to be gay. Come on, a story has to have a bit of everything right. If it was just plain serious throughout the entire game, it just wouldn't seem realistic. Well, with that said, those who can't stand a little romance, either are stupid and gay or haven't gone through puberty yet. That's right you guys heard me! (wow that felt great) Anyway, the game was awesome and everything about it was great. But, see, I can't give two games the rating of 10. Nope. This game is very cool with the incredible storyline and the freak'in kick ass hell villain Sephiroth. Very nice. I enjoyed the movies and all the boss battles. What I think this game did a good job in was explaining the pasts of each individual character. I liked the all the music from the game (Nobuo Uematsu, you've done it!) and I really enjoyed the ending. I like endings that leave with questions and wanting more. What good is a game if it gives you all the answers and you can't think about it on your own. Unless your stupid and can't figure out things. I am about to say the only thing I thought about this game sucked. The final battle with Sephiroth. Too easy. At least in FF8 you had to take on Ultimecia, then Greiver(the strongest summon/GF in Squall's mind) the combination of Ultimecia and Greiver and finally Ultimecia in her final form. In FFX, see that ending was kick ass cause you fight your summons, Jecht, Seymour for the last time and Yu Yevon. But overall, FF7 stands (in my opinion) next to FFX. FF8 being my most favorite FF till now. Buy this, you'll love it damn it!! Buy it NOW!!!(I got mine for $13 bucks!) Email me for any questions or comments!
| Excellent intro into a series | | Ryan Spruill from manteo, NC, USA says (26/Nov/2000): | To anyone who has never heard of this series.... Where have you been?! Anyone whose, anyone knows of this series. Possibly from its predecessors on NES and SNES. But for those of you who have not tried this game, who felt it has been over shadowed by its off-springs.( FF8 and FF9 ) Your wrong.
No RPGer finds attonment for the same game as another. FF7 is a great way to get a feel for the series, for those who no longer have access to FF1-6.
Final fantasy 7 offers superb graphics, an incredible story. Hidden characters and suprise events that leave the player remembering those events for years to come. ex.( the look on Areis face before she died). Add all that with lush backgrounds, great music, loads of mini games such as snowboarding, and a road rash type motorcycle game. And you then have a game that will please anyone. So for those of you who cannot reach ff1-6 or ff8 & ff9 dont really look too promising to you.... Pick up final fantasy 7 now at a greatest hits price!! Dont miss your chance to own one of the greatest playstation games ever!
