Not Outstanding but a Superb Blast of a game! | | JB from Windsor, Canada says (6/Nov/2003): | From the beginning of the game, and i mean right from the introduction, I was really impressed with the detail and the graphics of this game. The story throws a line and grabs you until the very end. I found myself up till 3am some days just to find out what happened next. The 3D graphics on a 2D background, however, didn't impress me too much. FFVII's battle system was the first thing I was really inpressed with. The only Final Fantasy Game I had played b4 this one was FF1 (The orginal NES version), and i found that impressive for its time. The battle system on VII is one of the best I've ever seen (Except for Sony's Legend of Dragoon). The time guage was a very innovattive piece of technology. This meant you were actually playing real time and you had to pay attention. I found that outstanding. The graphic during a battle are quite impressive as well (especially Cloud's little Sword Twirl at the end of a battle). The thing i hated about this game as well as any other modern Final Fantasy is the Save Point. Why can't you save anywhere. I guess that keeps you playin the game but I was afraid of melting my PSONE disc (the Playstation gets a little warm after 4 or 5 hours of continuous game play). The music on this game is what's keeping this game rating of mine at a 9 (otherwise it would have been a 7). The music for this game is the best ive ever heard. That really brought the whole game together. The replay value of this game is quite high id say. Overall, i think this was a very good game developed by Squaresoft.
| good game, bad timing (continued) | | Shane (Solid_snake71730@yahoo.com) from El Dorado, Arkansas says (9/Dec/2005): | sorry this is so long(just has to be said)
When i Wrote my last review of this game, it was july 15 2003 and on this forrum(page 6). I wrote about how this game would be sooo much better if it had waited for better graphics. well... the better grahpics are finally here, only, squaresoft is saying that they will not be doing a remake. This would be sheer foolishness on their part. at the unvealing of the PS3, they used a revamped ff7 opening scene which is still available for download. this action got an unexpected response. fans of ff7 blew up in mass histaria. the response of squaresoft was exactly as i predicted, they say that "there will be no remake." mark my words again, this prediction WILL come true, there WILL be another FF7 game coming at us in the future, and not too far off at that. in the next 2 years...MAX...i think that square is already working on this and that they want to lower the hype so that they can work on it in peace. this isnt an unfounded prediction. look at the success and hype that is following the FF7 advent children movie. i have seen this movie, by the way, and it was GOOD!!!, my point was that there is sooo much demand that it would be foolish not to make the supply to meet it. we are talking BILLIONS. and yet... "square isn't remaking the game." and it was just a coincidence that the game was cosen for the PS3 demo... and that they just "made that scene for the demo." if you beleive that, BOW BEFORE ME AND FOR I AM KING OF THE WORLD!!!
| Highly overrated | | sean schafer from NY says (5/Oct/2003): | The final fantasy series has always been king of rpgs. from nearly being bankrupt, square created final fantasy, and stayed alive.since then it has become one of the best gaming series out, only games like zelda can top them. i had played all FF games on nes and snes, 3 being the best of them. when ff7 was released it had alot of hype, not uncommon for a FF game. i soon found out that all that hype was for no reason. first of, the characters. lame, cloud is ok but all the rest are lame. sephiroth wants to be cool, but hes just to girly to be. all the other charas dont even seem like they fit into the same game. the graphics are bad, even for Ps standards. the charas are blocky and look like midgets on the field. the worst of all this is the story. after being 10+ hours into the game and then the story becomes clear. soon after however, it completely falls apart. it takes alot of intrest out when the story falls flat. nonetheless, it is a FF game, and the battle system is great, which makes up for the shortcomings. in reality, this is not the best FF game, RPG or best game ever, its far from any of them. anybody who thinks so is either a. has never played FFX or FF3, b.never played any other RPGs, or c. knows nothing. as far as best RPG goes, FFX holds that crown, followed by chrono trigger, and best game, zelda ocarina of time. so, if you want an amazing RPG, you wont find it here, if you want a mediocre RPG, FFVII is where its at.have fun
| Who is Spear-a-moth?Read on to find out. | | Chris and Adam from Donegal, Ireland says (3/Mar/2001): | Were back!!! Funny enough we reveiwed FF8 first because we had nothing better to do.Now we have finished FF7 again(in 2 weeks) we are well equiped to write this review.People who dis the graphics of FF7 really have no standard of gaming. It enhances the fantasy aspect of the game.People who complain about the post-modern punk graphics of the game can't see the game for what it is...or they are idiots(like our girlfriends, don't tell them we said that)The plot is breathtaking, better than a Hollywood production. It revolves around a group of eco-terorists,the mega evil company Shinra, and the worlds greatest soilder, now presumed dead Sephiroth (or spear-a-moth as C.Q once called him.) For a few hours at the start of the game, the game is limited to the city of Midgar, but latter expands to a massive world-map.As the game progresses, you get an insight into the characters past.At the end off disk 1 a major charecter dies, but we won't spoil it for you.(aeris R.I.P.)whoops sorry. If you didn't want to find that out you shouldn't have read the last line (no more spoilers...hopefully) It also has entertainment aspects such as chocobo-breeding,raceing and betting. Many of these aspects can be found in the Gold Saucer e.g snow-boarding,submarine challange, and the greatest game ever,Mog House(ha ha ha hardly) Finally the FMV of sephiroth walking through the flames of the burning Nibelheim village left us wide-eyed and amazed.
| This game is awsome I play it over and over again!!! | | Kim from San Francisco,CA,USA says (29/Jul/2004): | Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever. The battles are fun.The whole journey is fun it's self. If you've never played it then you betta!! It's awesome all of the little movies to explain things. There's so much to do and explore. You'll have a blast if it's your first time playing it. Don't mind the graphics because the movies make up for it. It can be sad at times but it's a cool game. The battle music is awsome aswell . I think just about all of the music is good. The whole story is cool. You'll fall in love with it. Never underestimate an old school psx game. It's an easy game to figure out...if you havent played it before listen to what everyone has ta say or you'll have problems. It's a very shocking game. Alot of the enemies or bosses can be very intimidating. sometimes it makes ya edgy. It's awsome when you meet new characters and exploraing new areas and the treasures or secrets inside any new place. So be prepared to explore. Personally i think it's the best final fantasy game out. It's just the game oyu'd spend hours and hours figuring new things out. Sometimes you never want to quit. It's an addiction at times . It can be very challenging. Listen to all of the clues given by anyone.
But this game is worth every cent it takes you to own it.Borrow it if you have to!!! Or even rent it! Do whatever it takes!!!
| Final Fantasy 7 - the best of an unbeatable series | | James White from Sutton Coldfield, England says (14/May/2002): | Final Fantasy 7 is the best game on the Playstation. While sure the graphics were slightyly blocky nothing could beat the fab game play, the superb story line and those beautiful CG clip graphics. You cannot help but demand vengenance on Sephiroth when he kills Aeris and weep with sadness as Bughagen dies. It shows what many games fail to portray: friendship, sadness, compassion, love, humuor and true evil. The RPG element in this game is surely the best. The cities are numerous and large if vast areas to explore. Mini games are plentiful. The game is so full of suspense you are barely hanging on to your controller. Final Fantasy 7 shows a world in motion with living characters who occupy it. It is also a story with more than one bad guy to vent your anger at. You have Sephiroth, a monster by birth and Rufus Shinra, a cruel dictator who crushes all enemies. The playable characters have so much character to them making them seem real and there is a large choice of characters not to mention the hidden characters. It is challenging without being difficult and enjoyable without being to easy. Its large amount of secrets give at a huge life span and even I, an accomplished FF player discover new things every time I turn on the machine. In conclusion FF7 is literally a combination of all things good. If all games were like these then everyone would want a console no matter what the brand or price.
| Great game no matter how you look at it! | | A gamer from Conway,N.H.,U.S.A says (27/Apr/2007): | FF7 is an awsome game. If you start playing it you WILL get hooked to it and it will become part of your life, i've already beaten it 4 times and i still havent completed all the side quests yet, its great. I love the look of the world in ff7 kinda dark and destroyed (in most parts) there are some very memorable sites in this game. The storyline is the best out of the series its so detailed and well thought out, and if your gonna play this game please take your time and read all of the sentences and enjoy the story becuase remember the whole point of an rpg is to get lost in a new world. It will leave you on the edge of your seat until the end of the game because of all of the twists and turns. and i think it has one of the best cast of characters i have ever seen, they're all very different from one another which makes them unforgetable. weather you like red xiii(lion) or Vincent they all have unique abilities to help make you'r way through this epic tale. The music for this game is so catchy i find my self humming the tunes at work constantly. The time span for this game is incredible! a standard time it takes to complete this game is at least 35-40 hrs!I don't care what anybody says the graphics are great! ecspecally for the year it was released.yeah thier a little choppy but who cares? you can still make them out. I rate this game a perfect 10!
| a great game | | james guess from mobile,AL,U.S.A says (31/Mar/2004): | this game rocks, ive almost beaten it im on sephiroth but hes hard, well anyway the materia system is really cool, the storyline is really great too, great depth, and controls, the graphics are great for ps1 standards the games is just extraordinary, the ending is a cliffhangers but ya know whatt ff7 advent children the dvd is coming out this summer so even more incentive to beat the game.the worlds are huge id expect so the game is 3 discs long im gonna buy ff8 after this but this game is one of the greatest games ever to grace a game console a perfect 10 out of 10 for me this is one of if not the best game in this great series excluding kingdom heart which i have also reviewed ,if ya need any help with the game just ask because this game is schallenging at times easy at times but challenging most of the time, the bosses are great the story couldnt be better.the materia leveling up is one of a kind true to its rpg style.this game will keep you wanting more till you beat it then youll want morew more than ever, but the dvd which is then ending to this games is coming out this summer.well anyway thyre are some cons no games is perfect like why sephy so dang hard lol,ok now im serious for the people who own a next gen console the graphics will turn you off kinda cartoonie but the battle system and the beautiful cut scenes really make up for it.
| Turly one of the contentors for Best Game Ever! | | Matt S. from Milford, New Jersey, USA says (20/Mar/2004): | I love all the Final Fantasy's! Well for me example I love a game that will test my game playing skills, and this is one of. For Final Fantasy's go this is my favorite, because before I started playing FF7 I thought,"Oh, yeah! I'm the best at video games!"
News Flash I wasn't! I know half of you reading this atical are looking for cheats, well here's one I'm not giving you any, because there non, Now Take That in Your Pipe and Smoke It:)
Back on the game it self. The grafics are only 3/10 star material, but the game plot WOW! is perfect 10/10 star!
Also this one of those games you can't beat in a week, I'v tried, I have Gameshark. The music always has those catchy jingles I sometimes find myself humming those just before I go to sleep. You'll never find another game like, but it still has the same aspects as the other Final Fantasy's so Igive it an 8,1/2-10 stars. It's good to see actualy alot of chacters die in a game, thank god. Next I'll tell you a little somthing on each charector:)
Cloud: You will mistake him for some else
Tifa: Runs a bar(7th Heaven)
Aeris: An Ancient
Barett: hates those #$%&*^ Shinra
Vicent: Very misterios
Cid: One of his weapons is a broom
Yuffie: Spunkie little 14 year old
Cait Sith: Is somehow desieving you
Red XIII(13): Real name is Nanaki and is only 15 or 16 in dog years
| The greatest game on any system-ever. | | Daz from Mayo, Ireland says (5/Mar/2004): | Background- the first time I played this game at a friend's house, I had only ever owned Nintendo systems. I didn't think that any house could ever top their level of playability or immersion with character (Legend of Zelda for example), and I took every opportunity to slag off my mate for buying a playstation to begin with.
What can I say? I was hooked from the very first scene- I had never seen a game so involving or cinematic- it's like being in a movie. The first CG scene blew me away- still one of my greatest ever video gaming moments.
The reviewers who criticise the graphics are surely missing a major point- when this game was released, the graphics an(d particularly the motion capture scenes) were truly ground-breaking. The sound and music are wonderful, really capturing the spirit of the game. Story is king, and this still remains the best example of a story leading the gamer on through a quest. If it was a movie I would pay to watch it. The characters are top-notch too (has there ever been a baddie as kick-ass as Sephiroth-really?)
Overall the game design and playability are perfectly judged, and the game really isn't as difficult as people are saying (just l-o-o-n-g). This is a must-buy for any gamer, and the main reason why I will always have my playstation plugged into my tv for years to come.
| OMG I mastered this game!!!! | | injured_cookies@hotmail.com from winnipeg says (20/Jan/2002): | This game rocks it took me three summers to complete this game completely like 100%> U dont believe me then bring it on.
But know the review u think that no words in a game is suky ur wrong its actually better without words. the background and music r the bomb. go NOBUO go. originality is like of course the makers always make up different features in all Final fantasies. All the reviews of this game r like so helpful i think this should deserve game of the year. No duh!!!
Keep moving on. this game has the best cool stuff like moves materia limits. the fun factor is a million if ur not patient dont play this game its an rpg. gameplay is awesome the controlls r easy and fast to learn. Lifespan ???? Forever and ever. since this game was second in all time Final fantasies its not my favorite game of alltime. mine is chrono trigger. check the review on that one. O ya the story line is like a frikkin movie but better its so good i cant describe it . No comment./.. / plz play this and if u hae any questions or anything u want to say to me email me of if u want to b**ch at me go ahead. this game was really like chrono trigger and dont borrow this game buy it if u borrow it ur wasting ur time dammit. and the movie was so cool . too bad they dont make sequels to the game just keeps the names like cid. So ya email me
| awesome | | A gamer says (3/Apr/2004): | I think this game blows any other ps1 or ps2 game out of the water!!!!!!its better than final fantasy 10-2 and way better than 10!!!!!on a more personal note i think the first disc to this game is way too long and could have left out a number of useless things in the disc....but other than that its an awesome game and i cant wait till the movie comes out!!!!!!!right now im trying to beat final fantasy nine and its pfretty kool but not as kool as seven!!!!!!!!! i hope you enjoy this game as much as i do!!!!and im a hardcore final fantasy fan!!!!I personally dont think they need some of the scenes where aeris talks to the planet because it makes her looked retarded and the whole idea about the date thing is kinda stupid!!!it has nothing to do with the story!!!!I felt that it was retarded and un called for!!!it just didnt make sense why it needed to be a date!!! im still trying to figure out a way to beat the game in under 48 hours!!!!its literally imposible!!!!I like challenges....final fantasy nine is definitaly not as long and i cant wait to beat it my favourite character is Quin or watever that stupid frogs name is...i just think its funny that he tries to eat everything!!!!!!especially when hes in a rat city and says "this place haves no yum-yums!!!!" i literally peed my pants laughing when he said that!!!!
| Best FF game yet | | Mike from Oradell, New Jersey says (1/Nov/2002): | I read most of the reviews here about the game, and had to write my own opinions. This is THE greatest game of all time. I've owned it since christmas of '97 I think, and have played it countless times over the years. In fact, I'm currently playing it as we speak, and finally beat Emerald Weapon. You do something new every time you play, and being bale to customize characters to give you a slight edge over the baddest baddies the FF world has ever seen, is just cool. The chocobos havent been matched in any game (i've played 5-10) and its just the greatest game
The best part about it is how every character (even Yuffie and Vincent, two hidden characters) have thier own storylines. You can easly identify and get so into this game its scary in a way. Cloud rocks. He is just the coolest freakin hero this game, or any, has ever seen. He's a headcase, a fake (in a way), and is the only man who wears purple that I'll ever respect. He got me into these games, and actually makes me buy the new ones. I keep trying to see if they could replace him, or match him, and the closest so far is Tidus (FF10) or Zell (FF8) other than that, no one comes close. I want this game to be remade for PS2! That would rule so much. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Okay well, enough talk... I have another WEAPON to beat.
| Final Fantasy 7 is by far one of the best games in the world! | | Stuart from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada says (7/Jul/2003): | I love this game! The graphics arent that great, but it dosnt matter. I love it how Cloud's past is so mysteriuous; Sephiroth makes the perfect villain, hes not just killing for ultimate power in some games, but because he hates the ancients he wants to destroy the world, he looks awesome ( not like some wierdo in a red suit with a hat on and pants, cough, cough, Kefka)he also has a great sword! The soundtrack for this game is one of the best ones, my favorite music is when their in the mythril mine and the highwind music. Also, one of the greatest added things in this game is the weapons (the beasts with 1,000,000 HP) Diamond weapon and Ultimate weapon are REAL easy, but when you get to the point of having the choice on fighting Emerald and Ruby weapon, you actually have to be a high level, have a few cerain items and materia and it is VERY challenging. I have beaten them before and it was really tough, but compared to them, Sephiroth is a major weakling. This game has everything a game needs to have not to mention the gold saucer and all the things to do there, plus the chocobo side quest that is really fun. If by some chance you have not bought this game before, you better buy it right now, it is totally awesome!!! there is nothing bad i can say about this game.
| Final Fantasy 7 is the best game ever created | | Cloud Strife from California,Riverside says (1/Mar/2003): | Final Fantasy 7 is the best game ever created. It has the best characters, magic, summons, weapons, special limit breaks and music with the storyline. The graphics is the things people only complain about, but it dosent matter because of everything that takes it's place, so people shouldnt focus on the graphics. Cloud's Tifa hidden relationship is just sooding to know. Cloud's Omnislash really is the strongest attack compared to the other Final Fantasies. The materia system is just something. I've heard rumors that they might make it over for the Playstation 2,with better graphics, two more disks and some different things, but the first three disks are the same ecxept for the graphics.I sure wish this would be true and Squaresoft will listen to are pleas even if Squaresoft is now joined with Enix industry, but I hope they dont mess up the future Final Fantasies and our dream to get Final Fantasy 7 for the PS2. I just love the characters and the game.Nothing can beat this game no matter how much they try. I've beaten the game like 6x's but I havent beatn Emerald and Ruby weapon because until know I am trying to defeat them, so I am incresing my characters lv's and materia combinations. E-mail me if you know some good materia combination so I can try them out for an example.
| Final Fantasy 7: Ruler of the FF Kingdom | | Klepto from Sacramento, USA says (7/Oct/2003): | Final Fantasy 7 was the very first game for the playstation that I played, and I still haven't found a game that matches it in storyline, depth, or characters. When I first started to play it, my first thought was "oh no, this whole game is just gonna be going around bombing all the reactors, isn't it." But I'm happy to say it was much much more than that. As soon as I left Midgar, I knew that everything I did there was just a small part of a gigantic story that had me glued to the couch for hours on end. I once sat from 10 in the morning to 4 in the morning, doing nothing but playing it. You may think that's sad, or you may think "hey, I've done that same thing," but either way, it just shows how gripping the story is. I do admit that it bugged me how annoying Cloud was at times, or that THEY HAD NO MOUTHS!!, but once you get passed the graphics this game is the best game ever. And really, once you get into the story you don't even notice the graphics any more. Though I do think that they should remake it for the PS 2 with voice acting and much better graphics. THEN it would really be the best game. Or a movie. Could you imagine how great a FF7 movie would be? As long as they didn't twist it to be as horrible as the Final Fantay movie. That was disappointing. Blech.
| Best Final Fantasy Game EVER | | rosk from england says (14/Jan/2004): | At the moment im waiting for the new exclusive to gamecube version of final fantasy Crystel Choronicles. The first FF game on the Gamecube. BUt before i got my gamecube final fantasy 7 was the best game i had and completed it 10000000000000000000 of times. I have played all the final fantasy games ( playstation 2 aswel. This game has superd graphics, sound and playability. The story line is so amazing it drags you into the world of FF and you just carnt stop playing. ITs great fun training up your character, gaining new, powerful weapons, buying magic and finding rare magic. The plot twists and turns and you find out about each of the characters backgrounds as you play threw the game. When you start you play as cloud ( a mercinary ) and you start right in the middle of a mission to blow up the reactor. The stort carries on from there but if you want a game with a story line so cunning you could stick a tale on it and a call it a wessel, you should buy this game. It has 3 disks the first disk taking about 69 hours to finninsh and thats being quik. The second disk is about the same and the last disk takes about a day to do because most of the disk uses FMV footage showing you the ending and what happens to your group of people. This game will go down as a classic.
| Classic... | | Mr. Mojo 2 u from Sweetwater, TX USA says (14/Feb/2003): | I first played this game in 1998. I loved it then and I still love it now. I'm just about to start playing it again for the 7th time!!! This definately one of the most original RPG's ever. The storyline is better than most movies or books, the graphics (while not the best) are more than sufficient and far superior to any other game built for PS1. The music is indescribable. I've caught myself humming certain tunes from the game. The characters draw you in. They are all so well scripted and designed that you actually develop feelings for them...even the enemies. The side quests are what makes this game truly unique...you will find yourself going back to the gold saucer for no other reason than to play them again! From an economic standpoint, I'd highly reccomend this game because of the fact that you get much more entertainment from it than most other games. Beating it the first time can take months but it never gets old. There's always something else to do or a different story line to explore. Once you beat the game you will want to pop disk one back in and sart right over. I gave this game a 10 because it is definately a classic and anyone who loves immersive rpg's should give it a try. Final Fantasy 7 is STILL the yardstick by which other rpg's are measured.
| I am starting a petition with my friend..please join | | Will from Chicago IL USA says (6/Feb/2003): | My friend and I were sitting around my room yesterday playing devil may cry. He had brought over the soundtrack to FF7!!! As soo as it went on I stopped playing devil may cry, I didn't even stop to save my game. I went straight to my CD case and pulled out FF7 disk 3. Poped it in and beat Seph. I know this is a bit odd but that was my first time beating it. It took me 4 years!!!! The only reason it took me that long is that I was running around getting chocoboos and materia, and i have been on seph for about a year and a half. Anyway it was one of the greatest feelings in my life. We went through 3 of the 4 disks of the soundtrack and then decided that we should start a petition to squaresoft. In the petition we want to have the names and e-mails of the people who would buy a remake of FF7 for PS2 which would have better graphics, not that they were at all disapointing in the normal, but just to play it like that and maybe have them add some side things in it. Also we had the idea that squaresoft makes a game where you play as seph!!! It would show where he went while Cloud and the group went after him. To us it sounded like a great idea. If you also think so or have better ideas please e-mail me at Snotroket69< remove me > at aol.com thank you
| final fantasty 7 all time classic | | A gamer from Waynesburg , PA ,USA says (23/Oct/2001): | I know final fantasy seven is a old game. And compared to some of the fancy new playstation 2 games is left in the dust.Go into any store that sells it and you will see a green strip on the edge. It says Greatest hits. And with being the most innovative final fantasy to date. And also selling the most copys of any final fantasy game on the market. I think its safe to say that it is a classic. From it's awsome materia system to its cool FVM cut scenes it's very innovative.I also think the americans who have bought the game should thank square. I mean they put extra FMVs and even gave us the Ruby and Emerald weapon fights. I thought it was cool that the U.S audience got extra stuff. Also all the final fantasys i've played have had a enthralling story. So in a sense the final fantasy games cover all medias movies, books, video games.I also love the chocobo breeding/racing(although chocobo racing was dissipointing). Square does need to work on the difficulty levels of there games I wisked right thru the game the first time. Other than that one element the sound, gameplay, replayability, and graphics all get a ten in my book.It is one of the best games i've ever played and that is what makes final fantasy seven a all time classic game.
