Genious1604

Urs Schmid from Zürich, Switzerland says (9/Jan/2001):
Everybody's found out: the Game IS great. It's a difficult one - even though I'm playing it in the easy mode I'm having my troubles reaching the next "save points". The game has almost everything I've always wanted to be included in such a thrilling first person shooter: Great sound effects (Sudden "biip biip"- noises make you turn your REAL head around), beautiful graphics with cool lightning effects (even the colors on the grey ground get mixed up surprisingly realistic once you light up your yellow flashlight while the red alarm lights are blinking from above) and the levels are built up totally cool. Scary "events" make the atmosphere even more thrilling: sudden explosions in front of you before a space marine and an alien are being splashed to the wall - then silence again. Or shocking light damages while walking down a long corridor which makes the environments much darker aterwards. What also must be mentioned: the walking or running speed is also totally realistic in comparison to other FPS-Games - it's not that you run with (almost) car speed after having moved the stick to move yourself forward. What combination is highly recommended to play this game like mentioned above: a MOUSE (!!!) and the controller with... ahem... "sticks" (?) (I'm still a PSX-starter, don't blame me!) for being able to choose every speed between totaly slow-sneaking and desperate running. ALSO cool: the action in the game takes place after having got used to the place (or section in the ship): not before having passed several corridors with exploding over-pressured pipes and such stuff. It's not that you get around the first corner, get armed with a gun and ten aliens come running along the way. This makes you get prepared for danger behind EVERY corner, even or BECAUSE there is no danger behind EVERY corner (unlike in Duke Nukem f.e.). Means you sneak around lotta time which makes the sudden action come to happen totaly shocking, also because the health problem is a BIG problem: an alien does not have to work on you 2 Minutes 'till you get down - NO! Your death comes very quickly indeed which will make you get along your way with strained nerves...
GET THIS GAME IF YOU LIKE BEING SCARED OUT OF YOUR SKIN!

scariest PSX game ever670

dvVIII from Toronto Ontario Canada says (23/Nov/2000):
Take the action of a first person shooter and combine it with what most people would agree is the most terrifying Hollywood creature ever and you've got Alien Resurrection. Not since SIlent Hill has a game scared me this much. The wait was a drag but Fox definately did the right thing in making Resurrection a FPS. Graphically, it doesn't get much better on the PSX than this. Fox also did a great job with the sound opting to omit music to make room for more ambient sound effects (I highly recommend playing in Dolby surrouond if you have it). The lighting, bodies and bloodstains, screams and gunfire in the background, along with the 'bip-bip-bip' sound of the motion tracker are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat, always anticipating an attack. This is where this game shines, creating tension. Like their movie counterparts, the aliens are extremely fast and agile, leaping from floor to wall to ceiling as they rush to tear you apart. And let's not forgot the facehuggers as the place if full of those creepy little buggers. Make no mistake, this is a hard game to beat but that's what makes Alien Resurrection survival horror at it's best.

It IS a good game! You just have to fiddle around with it!596

Scott Gordon from Ottawa, ON, Canada says (15/Nov/2000):
My impression of Alien Resurrection when I first played it was, "Man this game sucks." The game is great but everyone seems to agree that the major problem is the control setup. The dualshock sticks are very hard to use because they are extremely sensitive. By the time you get the crosshairs lined up with an enemy, it's either moved out of sight, or you're alien food. This can be a major turnoff for most people. But wait! If you go to the option menu, you can adjust just about everything for the controls. I just had to fiddle with the sensitivities for a while, and then after 10 minutes, I was running and looking around as if I were playing Goldeneye for the N64! So don't be turned off by the controls, it just takes about 10 minutes to get the controls right for you. And trust me, once you get it right, you'll be playing THE BEST FPS ON THE PSX! And if you don't like the dualshock, you can use the mouse, yes, it's mouse-compatible! Because when in times of panic, when those facehuggers start jumpimg at your head, you'll want good control!

Finally...A Decent Shooter For The Plastation!463

N. D. Hill from Gorham, Maine says (22/Oct/2000):
Alien resurrection is one of the most delayed games in Playstation history. Now that it's out, you can tell that the developers spent their extra time very well, and delivered my new personal favorite game for the Playstation.

The game rocks, it's like something you'd expect on a pc or nintendo 64. The game looks better than Turok 3 but the controls are strange.

The control scheme is poorly concieved. There's a 180º turn button for people too lazy to use the directional pad themselves and an odd center view button. I think the game should center it's view automatically by walking or something. These buttons could have been used for weapons and object cycling, instead of having to hold a strafe button to do it.

Despite the odd controls, the game still rocks. It has great sound, graphics and it builds your interest at a steady rate. It also has enemies you will learn to hate (wait till you meet the facehuggers).

In conclusion, Alien Resurrection rocks, go buy it.

What FPS players have been waiting for1194

aLIEN BOUNTY HUNTER from Great Britain says (22/Dec/2000):
  What does every FPS need?
Good Sound?
Excelent Graphics?
Scarey plot?
well alien Resurrection has all of these and in huge amounts. The sound is truely excelent and has u on the end of your seat through out.The graphics are very good for the playstation Crisp and flowing .Ive played it for days now and it hasnt stalled once. The only down point of the game is the controls. You can alter the controls though in the options menu so all is not lost.
The game is what FPS players have been waiting for .I highly reccomend it to anyone who likes a scarey FPS
Oh and the developers claim that 'this game is best played in the dark' Is completely true itll scare the sh*t out of you! With the sound of poor little people getting ripped apart by a blood thirsty alien and the every looming prospect of packs of aliens coming for u if you open the next door makes for the best game on the Playstation

Alien Resurrection is an in your face good game.1079

Billy Tomlinson from Perth Westain Australia says (16/Dec/2000):
Alien Resurrection is a gory keeps you playing game. Its nothing like the first Aliens game this ones 10 times better. It follows the story of the movie where you play as a cloned version of Sigourney Weaver because in the 3rd movie she died. The sound effects in the game are good the guns such as pistols, triple shot guns, lazer guns, flame throwers and other futuristic guns. So really the game is that your an escaped clone on the run trying to find some fire power where all the gaurds are after you on a giant space ship infested with aliens that have escaped there cages breeding and after youre blood. Email me if you need help or cheats for this game.

One of the best Aliens-based games ever!478

Xenomrph from http://alienencyclopedia.homestead.com/home.html says (26/Oct/2000):
Despite waiting nearly 4 years for this game, it was WELL worth it. It's got the atmosphere we all know and love (or are scared mindlessly of), with the most successful sci-fi/horror creatures of all time. The controls may be a little... innacurate (even the Dual Shock isn't very precise), it doesn't detract from the game much. While the AI can't compete with the Alien AI from AvP for PC, nor can the graphics (since PSX doesn't support 3dfx), it's still a wonderful game. I'd recommend it to any Alien fan, any FPS fan, or anyone who wants to get scared by a video game, of all things!

Interesting5835

Davezilla from Mesa, USA says (18/Feb/2002):
Once you get used to either using the analog controls or develop a maneuver you can use when you are being attacked so that you can actually point your weapon at the enemy, the game is great. No framing issues like in many FPS games, and lots of different foes. This game kept me interested from beginning to end.
