Tenchu 3 will be even hotter it will blow gamers away out of our world. Tenchu 1 and 2 is the best ninja games in PXS.

Same old TENCHU, better storyline, more moves, more blood !147

Daniel Mercier from Quebec City says (15/Aug/2000):
Tenchu2 is everything I had been bugging Activision for, two years ago, in a vivid ten-page letter and on behalf of many other fans of the first version. This is the TENCHU many of us have been praying for, and it quite frankly brings to the table the exact same intensity as the original PLUS an intriguing storyline unfolding from three different perspectives; it's art! In spite of some rather unwelcome firts-generation graphical glitches here and there, and the obvious lack of a natural successor to the amazingly pervasive original soundtrack that we were unfortunately all taking so easily for granted, the gameplay (by the fun, immersive, freaky, bloody...) remains stronger than ever. I must admit that I was a bit scared at first, even a bit disappointed (for I had lost TENCHU1's beat in favor of newer games), but by the time I got used to the updated control scheme as well as the more challenging pace of playing (one tough boss to fight openly at the end of every "stealth" mission) I was completely hooked and in love with the many improvements overall. So all my congratulations to the Activision, Acquire and Sony. As one Joe reported lately somewhere on the net, Tenchu2 is an excellent sequel in that it still provides better graphics and sound, more levels and characters, superior enemy AI, and a host of other improvements over the first title (which was already quite remarkable, mind you)!

best game for anything ever!!19919

Jimbob from England leicestershire says (26/Mar/2003):
i don't care what any one else says because there the best games ever, tenchu 1, 2 and 3 are all perfect because you have so many stealth kills and combo's,it's good how the enemies mind shows up what there thinking and how far away they are. everyone who says there not perfect are too fussy and want every little thing looking right. anyway i think it's perfect!

It's awesome but they could have done better!26957

Steve-O from Muscatine,Iowa says (2/Jul/2003):
I love the entire Tenchu series and i like the mission editor and the fact that you get to play as Tatsumaru, and all the new items that you get those are pretty cool. But what i dont like about the second one and the first is that if your running away from an enemy and you want to turn a sharp corner, you have to stop and turn that directionit get really annoying another thing i didnt like was the fact that the game was so short. I mean im used to long role-playing games that usually take up around 75-80 hours. But i beat this game with all three characters in one day that was dissapointing. Also the music in the first one is really good. I thought it was fun tho for as long as it lasted but i thought that the graphics were pretty choppy and could have been better. i just wish that i had more missions with each character, but the cinematic's were awesome. I also liked all the new assassinations that you could do. i did like however that the guards will dodge projectiles that you throw at them that was kool, but i wish they didnt stop looking for you just because you jump in the water and then all of a sudden your head goes underwater and a tube appears, i mean they should have made the enemies have more intelligence. But i did the the way you can drag bodies so that they wont be seen by patrolling guards. But all in all i say its a great game and was worth buying!

Basically you're looking at a316

Adriaan Steen from Roosendaal, Holland says (18/Sep/2000):
OK,first things first: TenchuII rocks !!
Anyone who (like myself) has played the original game to death will not be disappointed by this second installment!By that I mean, if you could put up with the slightly flawed gameplay of TenchuI you'll have no problem what so ever enjoying Activisions' second outing!
I mean let's face it,in terms of graphics Tenchu has never really been a stunner has it? But just remember that slick looking graphics don't always mean you have a killer-game on your hands! No sir! It's the playability and shear atmosphere that set some games apart. As you can probably guess these things are exactly what make TenchuII such a joy to play! There is nothing like having spent nearly five minutes working out how to get rid of those two guards standing in front of the gate and then finally delivering the deadly blow to both of them while remaining undetected by a soul! The level of excitement you get from a thing like that is way more important than how the game looks!
Ok,so apart from killer graphics TenchuII is the perfect sequel you think? Well...not exactly! Apart from a few extra options
(character movements,more levels and a killer level-editor)
TenchuII suffers heavily from recognizability!By that I mean that TenchuII is in a sense just more of the same, so unless you were a real fan of the first game there is little reason to spent another fortune on buying the sequel.
Like I mentioned above TenchuII is really a "deluxe" version of TenchuI
'nuff said !

More of the same, but still fun!!!1459

Tony says (1/Jan/2001):
Well, after playing the first Tenchu to death, I grabbed this at first opportunity, and wasn't disappointed, well, not too much. The bugs that plagued the first game are still here. Enemies are very dumb, the grappling hook has a very limited use, and the camera..... oh my god...... I found it frustrating when fighting a boss, only to have the camera take over and completly kill my vision of the boss, resulting in my character taking some unnecessary hits, a few more moves would have helped, even though the bosses are still easy to beat. Having played and completed Tatsumaru's levels, I got a taste for the darkside, how about we get the chance to play as the bad guys for a change?!!! People may say that Ayame is no good, if you use her properly then she is effective, the only gripes I have about her is her attitude, not very ninja like. I also didn't feel the same atmosphere playing this compared to the first game. None of the levels really made me think that I was against everyone, except for Lord Toda's warcamp, it just didn't have the same feel if you know what I mean? The game did answer some of those questions from the first game such as Rikimaru's scar and the birth of Onikage. Where does Tenchu go from here? Does it fold up tent now or do we go head on against Lord Ghoda's next enemy, maybe some clan wars? Imagine that, a cold night as you creep ever closer to that guard, only to see in the corner of your eye a rival ninja that is looking for you and your companions. A great game nonetheless, but still very frustrating in some areas!!!

A Must Have!!!!17490

PHIL from PA says (15/Feb/2003):
Whether you payed the first one or not, the TENCHU series is the best ninja games ever made in the history of gaming. No one has even begun to come close to this. It is everything I ever wanted a ninja game, sure ninja gaiden was fun, and maybe wrath of black manta touched base a little, but the TECHU series submerses you into the world of the shinobi!!

one good psx game48

Evan from Farmington,New Mexico,USA says (7/Aug/2000):
tenchu2 is one of the best games that i have played this year despite the same graphics as the first one it has added a create your own level option which can entertain you for hours.once you beat this game with both characters a new ninja becones available and he rocks.tenchu2 still has a pretty bad clipping problem and the camera angles somtimes screw up and this can piss you off if your being attacked.other than those minor flaws tenchu2 is a must have.

The best stealth game ever created!!75

Justin from Orem, Utah USA says (10/Aug/2000):
Ok, here's the deal. I love Tenchu. Played the first one to death and completed every level with both characters and all layouts on Grand Master. Now tell me I'm not obsessed. I absolutely love the prequal--everything about it except for one thing, where's the awesome MUSIC like the first Tenchu had. That's what made the first one so cool--or at least helped out A LOT! I have no problems with anything else in the game, i love it. Especially Tatsumaru, he has the raddest stealth kills. But someone, please tell me that there is a code or something to get music on the levels. What was Sony Computer Music Japan thinking??? Anyway, also I've discovered at least five stealth kills for each character but there is suppose to be 2 more with a total of 7 kills per character. Please email me if you have any info. The email is "tysonm< remove me > at uswest.net". Other than that--it's a complete 10!!!!

A game Sho Kasugi would be proud of....77

Jeremy Dore from Lexington, Kentucky says (10/Aug/2000):
Got the game yesterday and it's an excellent improvement over the first. I'm not dissing the first one mind you, but; the added options in Tenchu 2 make it a much better ninja game. The new character is move also excellent. I just think this game kicks utter booty!!!

Ahhh,Finaly,I have been waiting for a sequel since I beat the first one.120

Derek Tucker from Fairdale Kentucky United States says (14/Aug/2000):
  Gameplay

This is where the game stands out the most. It's unlike any game in it's genre. Once you get used to the control's and the interface the game is extremely fun to play. It encompasses stealth and action and manages not to bore either aspect. Unlike the first Tenchu, there are more, larger and more detailed levels. There are 17 story based missions and 15 already created mission editor levels which are surprisingly challenging and fun. There are also 19 new and original items that can be used and achieved throughout the game. Each character has 5 stealth kill techniques. You can swim, search and even hide bodies to keep your presence undetected. On top of all these things the story is very intriguing and well thought out. There are starting and ending FMV sequences for every level plus mid level FMV's in some levels that last three to four minutes long. The game has very high replay value with it's enormous size and mission editor that is extremely detailed for the Playstation. It also has a high difficulty, which I enjoy. Levels get noticeably harder as your progress, unlike Tenchu where level difficulty skipped around.
The only problem in this category would have to be camera angle's and control. Sometimes camera's are awkward when trying to stay hidden and still see the enemy. Control is almost identical to the first, which is not a set back once you get used to it. It can get frustrating during boss fights when trying to turn but it does not take away from the game enough to damage the experience.

Graphics

This game really shows the Playstations limitations. The overall graphic quality is not bad but for next generation system owners like my self will notice a lot of visual setbacks.A real problem with this game that does not effect the overall gameplay is the texture warping.Changing camera angles can make a straight spear hanging on the wall look like bolt of lightning with a spear head on the end.Even though some level environments may look rough or unpolished It easily makes up for it with highly detailed characters.Complete with blinking eyes and moving mouths.People are well proportioned and come in all different heights and weights.I think the greatest flaw in this category of the game would have to be the draw distance. No matter what level or time of day it is you are limited to about a 20 feet line of sight before everything disappears into a black/white foggy haze.It often can cause you to be caught by a enemy that has better sight then you.Over all the graphics are minorly dated for the playstation and do not significantly dent the extremely good gameplay.

Sound

Most of the sounds in Tenchu 2 are from the original, including blood splashing, sword slashes and stabs and jumping and landing.Sounds are done very well in Tenchu 2.My only complaint would have to be that there is not in-game music like in the first one.Music is only heard when you are fighting a boss or during a FMV.It was a nice original and atmospheric touch to the first one that would have been gladly welcomed by me in the Sequel(Prequel)but is not unforgivable.

I thought it was good353

Ryan from Michigan USA says (3/Oct/2000):
I thought the game lived up to its great name. The one thing that disapointed me though was the skill level involved. I played the game for one day and beat it with rikamaru. I thought the girl you have to fight at the end was a worthy oponet though due to the fact that she likes to poisen you. I also thought the red sparrow was a good fighter. I like how the levels were more in depth and longer to add some more skill involved. I also liked how the story goes, it was almost like a movie with you being the main character. The only other complaint I had was that some of the bosses were weak, this inludes the chinese warrior and the white tiger lord. Other than that I thought the game was pretty sweet. Now all I have to do is beat it with Ayame and Tatsumura.

More Assassination Fun!493

Ryan from Tenerife, Spain says (28/Oct/2000):
Tenchu 2 doesn't differ that much to Tenchu 1 except for the usual characteristics that sequels have; more levels, items, characters and so on. I think the original is the best game I've played on Playstation, maybe equal with Driver (and yes I have played Metal Gear Solid) and Tenchu 2 expands on that with differing levels, the ability to conceal and search dead bodies and more fatalities.
But three general disappointments:
1) The camera
In my opinion, worse than the first game. For example, it no longer follows you when you grapple somewhere which, while it isn't that important to the gameplay, was ultra cool to watch and gave an even greater sensation of being a ninja.
2) The grappling hook
You could use it for practically anything in the first game whereas with Tenchu 2, it's limited to "ledges and edges" only. And like I said, the camera doesn't follow your ninja when he flies to the rooftops. Shame.
3) The graphics
The main characters seem worse than the first game
But that's being picky; the new moves, ability to swim, new fatalities, huge amount of levels, gory fatalities, amazing items more than offset the disadvantages! This is the great game I expected!

Level editor rocks! Kagami sucks!804

Ronixis from Helsinki, Finland says (1/Dec/2000):
Tenchu is just great game for a Japanese freak like me. I watch Japanese movies and cartoons (anime, manga). The feature that makes Tenchu2 ultimate is that you can feel the Japanese ninja vibes as you leap from roof to roof. Rikimaru and Tatsumaru are just great. They are not like normal characters cuz' they obey rules without question and live for honour. Ayami is only HUGE minus because she doesn't act like true ninja (bandits are filthy....yuck). Makes me shiver! Lady Kagami is even more horrible. LOOK AT THOSE CLOTHES and attidude. Oh, and level editor is best in the whole game. Without it I would't have bought Tenchu2.

The game is slammin', except..........870

Vincent Blacknight from Brooklyn NY United States says (4/Dec/2000):
I think it is a great prequel to the first one, we finally get to see how Rikimaru gets his famous scar and who gave it to him, we get to see their master and a new character Tatsumaru which in my opinion is the best character in the game. But there are problems in the game starting with Ayame, she is a wack character, not to mention completely weak, it takes 40 slices just to hurt someone let alone kill them and what about the grappling hook animation, it sucks not to mention you can barely hook on to anything and the AI in the game is dumb even more than the first Tenchu. But even with all those set backs, Tenchu 2 is a perfect game for those who love the ninja such as myself. It's a must buy.

Oh yeah...the level editor rocks too!

An excellent ninja game for a change895

Gus from North Carolina, USA says (5/Dec/2000):
Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins is by far the best ninja game yet. Alot have come out this year but this one definately measures up to be the best of the best. There are some flaws, like how it only took me only a couple of days to beat it w/ Rikimaru and how some of the bosses are a little too easy this doesn't take away from it's excellent gameplay and stunning graphics. One thing that i noticed that i really enjoyed is that when you stealthfully kill a guard, right when it happens the screen seems to go into a semi fmv sequence to see the death happen. That really brought my attention to the game even more. The arsenal of weapons and the ability to move guards out of the site of others so you won't be seen just makes it even more interesting to play. This game really does need to make a series so the legend of the stealth assassins can live forever!

Great graphics!!1648

James Lacey from England says (12/Jan/2001):
I was a master at Tenchu and enjoyed playing around with the debug mode. Tenchu was a potential classic, let down only by its rather unfinished look. When I saw the Final fantasy-esque opening sequence of Tenchu 2, I knew I was in for a treat. The prequel has a fantastic plot, loads of new stealth kills and many more levels. However, they have missed out on classic status again this time around with a whole new heap of problems. The characters are less responsive and move slower and THAT grappling hook is useless! The levels are too "cartoony" and spaced out (hardly any jump kills!!) the levels are too easy yet the bosses are too hard (due to limited hand to hand combat controls) and the underwater bit is pointless....this game isn't a classic but it still rocks! A MUST for any budding ninjas!

Best stealth game ever!!!2053

UPRC from NS, Canada says (10/Feb/2001):
What can I say? I was a huge fan of the cartoony original Tenchu, than comes Tenchu 2... LOADED WITH BLOODY GOODNESS!!!
There are dozens of awesome stealth kills... The character
development in the title is top notch! Kagami is the perfect
villain and proves to everyone that is sexist that there are
good female villains (Breath of Fire, etc.). Also, the Mission
Editor of Tenchu 2 is a gem... But it had one downfall.
You could only place so many objects down... I was upset by that.
Now, how does this compare to the competition? Well, Metal Gear Solid graphically is better, and plays better... But Tenchu 2 is much longer and the story has many twists that will shock you!
Heres one, Tatsumaru loses his memory and falls in love with the woman he tried to kill (Kagami) and joins the Black Dawn, which she leads! Rikimaru and Ayame are basically unchanged from part 1, except Rikimaru's scar is absent and Ayame shows signs of immaturity. This is my stealth game of choice. Rent it, if you like it... BUY IT!!! This improves greatly on it's older brother.
