Good Game....41717

JD from Pittsburgh (area), USA says (10/Jul/2004):
It seems to me that soem ppl are a little too enthusiastic and some are not enthusiastic enough about this game. Chrono Cross is a great game and deserves respect but i think that Chrono Trigger had a much better storyline than Cross and it doesnt even compare to Final Fantasy 7 bt it is one of the best games out there.

Here are some of my views on what was done right and wrong with the game...

Characters-
-Chrono Cross has too many characters to actually have an intimate view on each characters life (aside from the kinda annoying giant talking scenes and flashbacks when the characters join).
-They could have definately had a better game without such characters as Pierre, Guile, or that annoying as hell Sneff who are sadly needed to complete your colection of characters.

Graphics-
-Some of the best graphics ever seen for its time...(Pretty much expected from a company like Square).

Elements-
-Square succeded in making another innovative way to have magic with the elements system but i felt it was lacking the ability to actually learn anything.

Leveling up-
-By far the worst thing about Chrono Cross (what were they thinking!!!) is the system for leveling up. Instead of gaining experience you get stars after each boss battle that increase your maximum capabilities, then after two or three crappy enemy battles you have matched your current max and are now forced to wait until the next boss battle to even gain anything...how lame!
This game ruins the fun of training. ex. Nothing is better than training to lvl 99 on the first disk of FF7 then mutilating every enemy for the rest of the game or getting tons of master materia just because you fell like it.

Replay Value-
-lol Id be lying to you ppl if i said it didnt have a good replay value considering i am replaying it right now...
-Overall its a good game and it would kick the ass of just about all of the garbage that is coming out now. That is why i rate it a 7.

Hope whoever reads this finds it useful :-) Feel free to email.

chrono trigger 2? yes, and no.9376

slade from vancouver, canada says (1/Sep/2002):
chrono trigger 2? yes, and no. when first told of a possible sequel to what was probably the greatest rpg on the snes, i was interested, but skeptical. 'why mess with a good thing?' was the first thing to come to mind. well, after playing chrono cross, it's safe to say that the creators did not destroy the original chrono trigger story we all know and love but rather, expanded it to a level so deep that it actually improves the chrono trigger universe. the story is set 20 years after the events in chrono trigger ended and in the tropical regions of the original chrono trigger map. our hero, serge, wakes (after a rather disturbing nightmare) in his small village of arni, and meets his girlfriend who promptly tells him that she wants dragon scales. so, it's off to the jungle for serge! after collecting enough dragon scales, leena (serge's girlfriend) meets serge at the beach and start talking. a few minutes later and serge is sucked into another dimension. this is when the thick of the story begins. aside from an extremely engaging storyline (especially for those who have finished chrono trigger), chrono cross offers the best battle system found on an rpg. instead of waiting for bars to refill or whatnot, the system is based on stamina points. while one member of your party attacks, that member will lose a certain amount of stamina points depending on which attack you choose; but the plus side is, your other members will gain stamina points every time you land an attack successfully. another new element (haha) is the magic system, elements. you buy magic(elements) and allocate them for each party member in a grid with 1 to 8 levels. then when you have enough stamina points built up to use them, rip some $#< remove me > at !. control is very put together and i don't have enough time to talk as much as i'd like to about the musical score. the original score from chrono trigger has been modified here and some new twists and original music added as well. nothing in video game history beats the opening score for this game. graphics are top notch (the panther comes to mind), and for all you kids who loved chrono trigger, get ready for a few goodies including refrences to the towns of porre and guardia, a guest appearance by masa, mune, and doreen, and a surprise visit to lucca's house! and that's just the beginning. with over 40 playable characters and each one actually being interesting and helping serge for his, her, or its own reasons, this game does not get old fast. the only bad thing about this game is that if you haven't played and completed chrono trigger, about 80% of chrono cross will make absolutely no sense to you at all. you might hear yourself asking things like, 'who are those 3 kids?' or 'why is this house burning down?' or 'who the $#< remove me > at ! is schala?'. all these problems can be quickly alleviated by of course, completing chrono trigger. so, in a nutshell, i can't imagine anyone giving chrono cross a bad review unless you're some sort of vampire nazi jerk that hates chocolate. certainly the best 11 canadian dollars i've ever spent.

2 tumbs up31384

Lexie106 from Miami, usa says (31/Aug/2003):
I agree, this is 1 of squares best games, but it was not the best. Square has made other games as in Final Fantasy 10 (ffx)! Each character was unique and did have a problem to solve, but the grafics were not the best, and that kissing sequence was soooooooo cheezy! square put some good music in, and i did love the gameplay! Chrono cross is a long game full of many adventures. I belive that Chrono cross is a very original game, not like many other role playing gmes i have seen out there. I think that each character has had a personality that probably took many hours to think up. Chrono cross has sooooooo many characters that in one game you cant even get all of them. I have played and replayed Chrono cross so many times i lost count. Square has contubuted many wonderful role playing games that it is hard 2 choose which role playing game is the best. Out of my favorites like final fantasy ten , chrono cross, chrono trigger and other final fantasy instalments chrono cross is up there pretty high. I belive that chrono cross has been well worth my forty dollars spent on this game! Thank you so much square, Chrono Cross is a wonderful and exciting game!!!!!********

This game rules24901

Patrick Halpin from USA says (7/Jun/2003):
I have played Chrono Cross alot for the past year. I have beat it so many times. But Chrono Cross is more of a Sequel to Radical Dreamers. But it still does fits being a seual to Chrono Trigger. The story is Great but does get confusing at first. I love the music. I always have at least one Chrono Cross song stuck in my head. *LOL* The Characters are awesome but no where near as cool as the characters in Chrono Trigger. But the best part of Chrono Cross is its battle system. I mean there is no other RPg with that type of system. Very easy to use. If you think bosses take to much time because of it you really dont understand how to use it. The only problem is the elements. I like them i just dont like the fact that you can only use every element ( Not including consumables) per battle. Now over all this is one of my fav Rpgs next to Chrono Trigger and Golden sun.
if you ask me this game was alot beter thanf final fantasy 7.I think everyone should have a copy of this game.

chrono cross rule's38164

tyler wells says (11/Jan/2004):
this is the best rpg i've played in years i'm still stuck but i'm getting there. The main reason i love this game so much is any rpg is awsome that's why i give chrono cross 10 out of 10 it's got good graphics gameplay value and the replay value is unlimited there are tons of side quests so you could keep yourself occupied for day's,month's,even year's but chrono cross is the number one game for me and to all of u see ya later
PS.luminarie is the coolest special ever

Chrono Review1636

Keith from Burlington, Ontario, Canada says (11/Jan/2001):
Chrono Cross is the sequel to one of my favourite SNES games. This game has some very top quality graphics(good shots of the woman too), nice sound quality, an excellent story-line, and some great gameplay that can really get you hooked. There's loads of little secrets that you can get, and so many characters it's hard to keep track of them. One of the things I like best about this game is the fact that when you interact with the characters it can define who's going to want to join you later in the game and how the rest of the game's going to turn out. The reason why I "only" gave this game 9 out of 10 is because the two dimensions aspect of the game can get a little confusing when you first start the game but you get the hang of it after a little while.

The Best comeback for Chrono Trigger20723

Ardella Shelton from Detroit, MI says (6/Apr/2003):
The game's fine, but it takes to long to finshed. I'm not stuck on any part of the game, but it took me 1 year and a half to get where I am now in the game. And where was I supposed to go in Terra Tower. Not a waste of time if you want to play that long to annoy a friend who want's to play. It's long and it keeps you gessing.

A MUST HAVE!!!!!

It's better than not playing anything22071

jon from Joplin, Missouri, USA says (23/Apr/2003):
This game is an ok game. squaresoft really made an effort to make another chrono game. although. the music gets very old and irritating after a while and i know i found myself more than once turning the sound on my television all the way down. the graphics on this game is better than most of the ps1 games i've seen around but still not top notch. The most exciting thing about this game is in some of the points at the game you must choose a path on which to take. This means recieving different characters and meating new monsters to take on. Another interesting aspect to the game is the magic/element selection, because instead of leveling up and getting new magic spells along the way, you may choose from an array of different elements that everyone may use with the exception of some elements for only 1 certain innate. I also liked the forging new weapons because it is more like real life where you don't just have a weapon to choose from but you must also have all of the materials to create the weapon you choose. All in all this is a good game if you are bored during the summer and have nothing else to do.

Chrono Cross a very well done game25481

Aconite Varggoth from Madison, Wisconsin says (15/Jun/2003):
Chrono Cross is not as good as Chrono Trigger but a dang fine game all the same. Great Graphics, good story, good charcters and villians. Spell system is not the best but every game has it's flaws and wish it would have had people from Chrono Trigger but overall a worthwhile game to own a play, highly recommand

The Best RPG I've Played Yet30586

Scott Mahon from Salisbury Maryland, USA says (20/Aug/2003):
O.K. so a lot of people might say that CC is a letdown and undeserving of "Chrono" in it's name. But as for me I think that Chrono Cross is a big example of what Square can really do. Sure I liked Chrono Trigger as much as the next guy but in my opinion, CC blows Chrono Trigger and all other RPGs that have been made, out of the water. I think that the creation of Chrono Cross was the most anticipated sequal to any RPG in gaming history. The soundtrack was O.K. But other than that it has all of the makings of a true Squaresoft masterpiece. I don't see why so many people critisize it. But for all of you who do, you apperantly have a strange taste in excellent gaming. CC is a game that I've been playing for quite a while as well as CT before that and I have not gotten even the least bit tired of it. It is a catching game, which I'm sorry to admit may take away from things more important. But, hey when you are playing CC it seems like there is, nothing more important than getting to the next section and moving on to the best ending in RPG history.

THIS GAME BEATS ALL IN RPG HISTORY31096

Claude from New york says (27/Aug/2003):
this drama game beats final fantasy 9 by long its epic and brilliant if i do say so myself though the kissing part is overrated. the characters have their own problems to solve and these are some of my favorites Serge, kid, pip. though this is ending i think they should make another one a third that would hold them on good in money

A disaster for Chrono Trigger: Chrono Cross32660

Greg Hill from Centerville, OH. USA says (29/Sep/2003):
Many people seem to like this game. However, I can't understand why. I've played the first Chrono Trigger game for the SNES and to this day it is my favorite RPG. I too, was highly excited about Chrono Cross, but I ended up being greatly disappointed. It was not at all worthy of the origanal.

Graphics:
For the most part I like the graphics. The Cinema scenes were beautifly done and the character disigns were creative. The special effects of the moves were slightly bland, but all together, visually, it was pretty good.

Gameplay:
It was fairly average to me, although I was disipointed when it almost completely disreguarded the original concepts of Chrono Trigger. Instead of learning new and unique special techiques, you equip a serise of bland looking spells or "Elements" like items and any element can be equiped on anyone after you buy them. As far as double and triple techs go, I've been told they exist in the game, however the only one I've been able to figure out is Glen and Serge's X-strike, even though I've played this game all the way through at least 5 times, it was a let down. I found the new normal attack system interesting at first, but after a while I just stuck to attempting the strongist attack.
Another unique feature of Chrono Trigger they disreguard in Chrono Cross is the Battle Map system. Chrono Cross claimed that they upheld this system before release, but they didn't really. In Chrono Trigger, the character's could see the enemyies on the normal map before attacking them, you could see every enemy you were up against, and you would fight in the normal map. It wasn't like the usual RPG random battles that would have you fight in a in the same background after it does a speical effect. All Chrono Cross did to attempt something similar was have a represtentitive of a monster "group" walk around on the normal map and if you touched it, instead of leaping directly into action like in Chrono Trigger, it goes into the usual "battle mode" with little lights and swirls. Again it was disappointing if you've played the origanal, but if you haven't it probably would bother you because it's the same old way of usually doing battle in RPGs.

Storyline:
Now this will get you fuming mad or confused. If you played the origanal, it will make you both. Chrono Cross was based on the idea of alternate realities, not time, and attempts to try to explain a while bunch of unseen history in two differnet realities. So many names, paces a conterdicting themes are thrown at you at once that your still left thinking "What the heck...?" at the end of the game. I for one still don't know why the main character was thrown into the adventure and what anything had to do with the end bosses and the origanal Chrono Trigger and I've played it many times to try an figure it all out without trying to take written notes. As far as characters go, it's ridiculous. There are some references to the origanal characters, but they don't make sense. You can get 40 people on your team, but they have no personality, much of a story, or an idea of what's going on. Much of the time it's alot like walking past someone on the street if they want to battle monsters with you and save the world. It was corny to put it bluntly.

I know a lot of people think it's great. And I hate to say this, but...I didn't like it as a sequel to Chrono Trigger. Many fans keep up the hipe about it because it's related to Chrono Trigger or has a different concept, but I highly recommend you rent it before purchase.

PERFECT!!34975

Doug from Norwich, Connecticut says (9/Nov/2003):
Chrono Cross is the best RPG I have ever played. There couldn't be a better sequel to Chrono Trigger. I love the fact that there are so many characters, it gives you a ton of possibly powerful combinations. My favorite character is Glenn, especially after you get both Einlanzers. The only possible thing that I could find wrong with it is that the final boss is too easy.
