A disaster for Chrono Trigger: Chrono Cross | | Greg Hill from Centerville, OH. USA says (29/Sep/2003): | Many people seem to like this game. However, I can't understand why. I've played the first Chrono Trigger game for the SNES and to this day it is my favorite RPG. I too, was highly excited about Chrono Cross, but I ended up being greatly disappointed. It was not at all worthy of the origanal.
Graphics:
For the most part I like the graphics. The Cinema scenes were beautifly done and the character disigns were creative. The special effects of the moves were slightly bland, but all together, visually, it was pretty good.
Gameplay:
It was fairly average to me, although I was disipointed when it almost completely disreguarded the original concepts of Chrono Trigger. Instead of learning new and unique special techiques, you equip a serise of bland looking spells or "Elements" like items and any element can be equiped on anyone after you buy them. As far as double and triple techs go, I've been told they exist in the game, however the only one I've been able to figure out is Glen and Serge's X-strike, even though I've played this game all the way through at least 5 times, it was a let down. I found the new normal attack system interesting at first, but after a while I just stuck to attempting the strongist attack.
Another unique feature of Chrono Trigger they disreguard in Chrono Cross is the Battle Map system. Chrono Cross claimed that they upheld this system before release, but they didn't really. In Chrono Trigger, the character's could see the enemyies on the normal map before attacking them, you could see every enemy you were up against, and you would fight in the normal map. It wasn't like the usual RPG random battles that would have you fight in a in the same background after it does a speical effect. All Chrono Cross did to attempt something similar was have a represtentitive of a monster "group" walk around on the normal map and if you touched it, instead of leaping directly into action like in Chrono Trigger, it goes into the usual "battle mode" with little lights and swirls. Again it was disappointing if you've played the origanal, but if you haven't it probably would bother you because it's the same old way of usually doing battle in RPGs.
Storyline:
Now this will get you fuming mad or confused. If you played the origanal, it will make you both. Chrono Cross was based on the idea of alternate realities, not time, and attempts to try to explain a while bunch of unseen history in two differnet realities. So many names, paces a conterdicting themes are thrown at you at once that your still left thinking "What the heck...?" at the end of the game. I for one still don't know why the main character was thrown into the adventure and what anything had to do with the end bosses and the origanal Chrono Trigger and I've played it many times to try an figure it all out without trying to take written notes. As far as characters go, it's ridiculous. There are some references to the origanal characters, but they don't make sense. You can get 40 people on your team, but they have no personality, much of a story, or an idea of what's going on. Much of the time it's alot like walking past someone on the street if they want to battle monsters with you and save the world. It was corny to put it bluntly.
I know a lot of people think it's great. And I hate to say this, but...I didn't like it as a sequel to Chrono Trigger. Many fans keep up the hipe about it because it's related to Chrono Trigger or has a different concept, but I highly recommend you rent it before purchase.
| chrono trigger 2? yes, and no. | | slade from vancouver, canada says (1/Sep/2002): | chrono trigger 2? yes, and no. when first told of a possible sequel to what was probably the greatest rpg on the snes, i was interested, but skeptical. 'why mess with a good thing?' was the first thing to come to mind. well, after playing chrono cross, it's safe to say that the creators did not destroy the original chrono trigger story we all know and love but rather, expanded it to a level so deep that it actually improves the chrono trigger universe. the story is set 20 years after the events in chrono trigger ended and in the tropical regions of the original chrono trigger map. our hero, serge, wakes (after a rather disturbing nightmare) in his small village of arni, and meets his girlfriend who promptly tells him that she wants dragon scales. so, it's off to the jungle for serge! after collecting enough dragon scales, leena (serge's girlfriend) meets serge at the beach and start talking. a few minutes later and serge is sucked into another dimension. this is when the thick of the story begins. aside from an extremely engaging storyline (especially for those who have finished chrono trigger), chrono cross offers the best battle system found on an rpg. instead of waiting for bars to refill or whatnot, the system is based on stamina points. while one member of your party attacks, that member will lose a certain amount of stamina points depending on which attack you choose; but the plus side is, your other members will gain stamina points every time you land an attack successfully. another new element (haha) is the magic system, elements. you buy magic(elements) and allocate them for each party member in a grid with 1 to 8 levels. then when you have enough stamina points built up to use them, rip some $#< remove me > at !. control is very put together and i don't have enough time to talk as much as i'd like to about the musical score. the original score from chrono trigger has been modified here and some new twists and original music added as well. nothing in video game history beats the opening score for this game. graphics are top notch (the panther comes to mind), and for all you kids who loved chrono trigger, get ready for a few goodies including refrences to the towns of porre and guardia, a guest appearance by masa, mune, and doreen, and a surprise visit to lucca's house! and that's just the beginning. with over 40 playable characters and each one actually being interesting and helping serge for his, her, or its own reasons, this game does not get old fast. the only bad thing about this game is that if you haven't played and completed chrono trigger, about 80% of chrono cross will make absolutely no sense to you at all. you might hear yourself asking things like, 'who are those 3 kids?' or 'why is this house burning down?' or 'who the $#< remove me > at ! is schala?'. all these problems can be quickly alleviated by of course, completing chrono trigger. so, in a nutshell, i can't imagine anyone giving chrono cross a bad review unless you're some sort of vampire nazi jerk that hates chocolate. certainly the best 11 canadian dollars i've ever spent.
| Another Great Masterpiece From Square | | Adrienne from Indiana Usa says (23/Feb/2005): | Is it just me or does Square have this incredible ability to make the best games? I have never played a game from Square and been dissappointed (unless you count FFT). After playing this game (and the whole FF series, plus KH) I understand why Square-Enix gets so much praise. And Chrono C. is just another among many that are work of grace and splender. And I'll tell you why I think Chrono C. deserves the title of "Greatest Hits". Let me warn now you that if you havn't played the first one and you skipped it like I did, you are going to be SO confused. It is impossible to understand the whole concept of the storyline unless you've played the first one or you had a friend, who played it, explain it you. So spare yourself the headache and play the first one, trust you'll be thankful you did. But anyway, the storyline in the game is confusing but still very good. And there are several different ending just like in the
first. A neat thing in the game, which kinda follows the line of the Suikoden series, is that you can have almost over 40 or 50 different memebers in your group unlike in the first one where you only had 5 memebers and one additional character. But because of that and here is the only thing that's really annoying about this game, is that it takes forever to find the character you want, equip weapons and armor on them, and change or equip their elements. But I have admit that it's fun to find all the additional characters and be able to have them at your disposel whenever you want use them. Another great thing in this game is the battle system. The battle system in this game has got to be one of my favorites ever!! I can understand though if eveyone had a different opinion because the battle system is not made for the typical or average RPG. In this game, magic is a thing of the past and instead you have to use elements in their place. So that might not appeal to eveyone. The music in the game was great and very catchy. I found myself humming some of the music through the game.:) The characters and their personilities were very detailed. I like that in games. Another great aspect in the game was that it wasn't completely linear, that you had options during the story. For example, before you get into Viper Manor you have to decide how and who you take there. Basically when you play the game over again you won't have to keep going the same way every time you play which I thought was cool. Another reason to play this game is for the sidequests. There were tons of sidequests in this game and some of them were quite challenging. Over all, I thought that the game deserved a ten. To me, I liked both first and second. They were both very VERY good games, so if you were a big fan of the first you'll probably like second. *Sigh* I just hope that Sqaure-Enix will make masterpieces like Chrono Cross!!:)
| More Final Fantasy Magic, Different Approach | | Chrono Serge from Warner Robins, GA USA says (6/May/2002): | Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “I read your review on Chrono Trigger, so I bought and loved it (if you haven’t, do so immediately). Even though CT was great, I’ve heard bad things about Chrono Cross, like it wasn’t as good. What do I do?” Well, brace yourself, because I think Chrono Cross is as good, if not (slightly) better, than its predecessor. Addictive gameplay? Check. Unforgettable character? Sure. Same Final Fantasy magic? Of course, Chrono Cross has that. So, you ask, why are some people saying it’s not as good?
Well, the main reason for this is that the main characters of CT, Crono, Marle, and Lucca, are nowhere to be found in this sequel. Everyone loved Crono and Company, and now they didn’t return for this adventure. Well, don’t let that get you too downhearted, because in the place of Crono is the loveable Serge, maybe even as cool as Crono. The new characters are just as cool as Trigger’s, and now you can select Status on the menu and see the characters up close! A great feature, if you ask me.
Another complaint for CC is that you are no longer time-traveling. Time-traveling is now replaced by two alternate dimensions. Maybe time-traveling was a little cooler than two alternate dimensions, I’ll admit that, but Squaresoft sure did make it seem interesting.
Other cool things about Chrono Cross are:
> Over 40 playable characters (yes, I said 40);
> The return of techs (although there aren’t as many);
> The ability to allocate magic, referred to as elements;
> And, the sly way it fits into and continues the Chrono series.
And don’t forget good graphics and no terrible load times! But, if you’re not finished with Trigger and are thinking about getting this game, I wouldn’t. Even though Trigger’s load times can get aggravating (and just plain uncalled for) at times, I highly advise you not to play Chrono Cross before playing Chrono Cross. By doing this you would mess the story up and not understand many things, which would take away from the magic. And you know you don’t want THAT to happen.
Games are rated on a 5-point scale. Each point is associated with a separate category, which are: G: graphics; L: load times; R: replay value; P: playability; and G: gameplay. Each category can receive either a full point (1.0), one half of a point (0.5), or no points (0). Get the picture?

| A very big letdown.... | | Scott Smith from England says (23/Dec/2002): | Chrono Cross does not deserve to be associated with the SNES epic Chrono Trigger in any way. When I first heard that the original CT team was working on a new game carrying the Chrono name, I was psyched. A second Chrono game was far overdue. But when I saw the first character designs and sketches my heart sank a little, they just didn’t look “right.” But that didn’t matter, it was still the Chrono team, they had created a masterpiece before, and I was sure they wouldn’t let me down this time, right? Wrong. The visual aspect of CC is nearly the only thing about it that is impressive. From backgrounds to character animation, Square did an excellent job. The world is colorful, the locales varied, the FMV pretty. The sound is almost as equally well done. The music fits the various moods and scenes while you are playing well, but you will forget the songs the minute you switch off your PS console, and probably never feel the need to hear them again. Don’t think for a second you’ll be treated to anything nearly as powerful, emotional or memorable as CT’s tracks. The story and characters are without a doubt this games biggest downfall. You will not care one bit about the story, one bit about any of the characters (good or evil) by the time you reach the end of this game. I know I didn’t. I won’t “ruin” the ending; I will just say this: CC had the worst ending to an RPG I have ever had the misfortune to endure. I hope for your sake you get one of the better ones after investing 35 hours or more of your time (if you choose to even play the game.)
Perhaps the worst thing about this game is that somehow it has the name ‘Chrono’ in its title. Not once did I feel an ounce of the magic that made CT so brilliant. Not in the characters, not in the dialogue, not in the storytelling, not in the music, not anywhere. What is truly disturbing is that a game site which I always go to first for my reviews to here from the fellow gamers, which I trust will always give me an accurate rating gave CC a perfect 10. Did FFVII or Xenogears—both far more deserving of such an honor—receive a perfect 10? No. Instead, this lifeless, forgettable, miserable excuse for a Chrono game did. If you’re a CT fan do yourself a favor, pretend this game never happened.
| Chrono Cross: Possible Usurper to FF7? | | Nik from Columbia,Missouri,USA says (6/Apr/2005): | This game was extraordinary. For t hose of us who played Chrono Trigger way back when it first came out, you will find many similarities that will end up making you go "Hey...wasn't that...?" In addition, the story line is complex, but open-ended, allowing you to draw your own conclusions about things (Guile's identity, Why the masamune went evil, Etc, etc...)
Gameplay:
The gameplay was fantastic, with only a few points that were irritating (doors not opening save at funny angles, certain things blending into the background so as to actually detract from advancing the storyline...) But other than that it was spectacular. Finding extra characters, sidequests....Guaranteed to keep you entertained for a long...long...long....(Got lost in new game+)
Music:
The music is absolutely gorgeous in this game, and the only song I have ever found to counter Nobuou Utusemi's "One winged Angel"(Safer Sephiroth-Final fantasy 7) is the opening song before the start screen (Scars left by time).The music and FMV cut's went together really well.
Graphics:
Slightly glitchy and some points near the beginning, and once or twice during boss battles, but the FMV's were fantastic. The only graphical problem I had was mentioned above, with camoflauged doors and such.
Element system:
I tended not to like this at points, because it alwasys seemed to me that being able to use a specific element only once per battle hindered being able to fight certain bosses (though most of the bosses were not particularly difficult).However, having it this way incorporated a lot more strategy than basic hack+slash+magic games (what with the summons and field effects and all)
Star system:
Once more, the lack of leveling up irritated me. Basically, you can do the bare bones of the game without taking the time to level up. Example, in FF7 I could never beat the demon wall without at least an hour and a half of extra training. Well, since you ONLY level up after boss fights, almost anyone could beat this game...unless they were utterly retarded and ignored elements almost alltogether.
Overall...this game may be a threat to final fantasy 7's title of "ABSOLUTE GREATEST GAME EVER"...(My opinion on both points)
| Good Game.... | | JD from Pittsburgh (area), USA says (10/Jul/2004): | It seems to me that soem ppl are a little too enthusiastic and some are not enthusiastic enough about this game. Chrono Cross is a great game and deserves respect but i think that Chrono Trigger had a much better storyline than Cross and it doesnt even compare to Final Fantasy 7 bt it is one of the best games out there.
Here are some of my views on what was done right and wrong with the game...
Characters-
-Chrono Cross has too many characters to actually have an intimate view on each characters life (aside from the kinda annoying giant talking scenes and flashbacks when the characters join).
-They could have definately had a better game without such characters as Pierre, Guile, or that annoying as hell Sneff who are sadly needed to complete your colection of characters.
Graphics-
-Some of the best graphics ever seen for its time...(Pretty much expected from a company like Square).
Elements-
-Square succeded in making another innovative way to have magic with the elements system but i felt it was lacking the ability to actually learn anything.
Leveling up-
-By far the worst thing about Chrono Cross (what were they thinking!!!) is the system for leveling up. Instead of gaining experience you get stars after each boss battle that increase your maximum capabilities, then after two or three crappy enemy battles you have matched your current max and are now forced to wait until the next boss battle to even gain anything...how lame!
This game ruins the fun of training. ex. Nothing is better than training to lvl 99 on the first disk of FF7 then mutilating every enemy for the rest of the game or getting tons of master materia just because you fell like it.
Replay Value-
-lol Id be lying to you ppl if i said it didnt have a good replay value considering i am replaying it right now...
-Overall its a good game and it would kick the ass of just about all of the garbage that is coming out now. That is why i rate it a 7.
Hope whoever reads this finds it useful :-) Feel free to email.
| a classic psx rpg | | A gamer from sac, california, usa says (17/Nov/2005): | i know that not many people who have played the original chrono trigger cared much for this game, and i think that is only because of their preoccupation with the first game. chrono cross has a great multifaceted story and the most interesting character relations contrary to what some reviewers have said. the story does meet up with the chrono trigger story and while it is in an unconventional sense it is not as one poster described that you would need to take written notes. this is one of the classic rpgs of the psx and i hold it in reverance with ff7 as my favorite game. i place more emphasis on story than gameplay, but for those who wish to know of gameplay the battle system is unique. if you thoughtfully allocate your weaponry and elements before a battle the battle will be easy and the enemy will not use any attach which you could circumvent the effectiveness of to prevent you from getting too powerful, if on the other hand you don't effectively allocate your resources, the attacks will be relentless. there isn't a traditional level up system, but instead a new level is reached only by beating a boss. the game has a multitude of endings, and so many characters that replaying it with different characters in your party and at different places in the converging points of the story will delight you each time around. many of the characters are in some way significant to each other, and by going between the two worlds you can even create reunions between people believed to be dead and their loved ones, which plays out uniquely in every instance, or introduce a character to his/herself. the graphics are astounding for a psone title and the fmv sequences are some of the best square made on that console. the soundtrack is amongst my favourtes and the synthesizer is of much higher quality than the earlier equare games capturing the unique stylings of the music in comparison to other rpgs. pick up a copy if you haven't already, any rpg fan will be glad to have it in their collection.
| .....wow O.O | | game_gurl101 from Katy,USA says (6/Jul/2004): | Chrono Cross is, fo course, the counterpart for the one and only Chrono Trigger. But I havent played far into Chrono Trigger yet, so Im not sure of the relationship. Anyway, Chrono Cross's graphics are awsome. I mean like, Oh my god is that guy freakin real or what!?!? kinda graphics. Okay, maybe not exactly THAT, but, close.
Basically in Chrono Cross you start off as a young boy named Serge. You have a supposed girlfriend and, like any other good girl, she is bossing you around and telling you to go collect her komodo dragon scales! So you trudge off and go collect these scales because you dont want to be beaten up by your girlfriend. She said she would meet you at the beach after you were done, so you head there afterwards and wait for her. Yall have a nice little chat and then suddenly ths huge ass wave starts coming towards you! Next thing you know, your lying on the beach, without your girlfriend. So you head back home alone, but things are geting a little strange. And when you get home, and are about to question your girlfriend, you find out something veeeeeeerrrrrrry intresting. You supposedly died some years ago. (Who could've seen this one comeing? Certainly not Serge.)
The music of this game was just, awsome....well, in my opion it was anyway. Okay, so some of it was a tad bit annoying at times, but some othert themes (like the Marbule theme) waas just plain awsome. I swear, i found myself dancing in my seat one time. >_<''' So embarrising.
Another reaslly cool thing about this game is, like Chrono Trigger, you can get multiple endings. And you can have different characters join you to affect gameplay. And one time, one of your team mates is drasticaly sick, and theres no cure...yet. You have the chance to either help this person, or just leave and countinue.
All in all, Chrono Cross is one of the very best games out there. And I highly suggest that you buy it and play it over and over and over and over and over! It is that good!
| Da Best RPG Game Made By RPG Gods | | Neo_Squall from Malaysia says (20/Jul/2002): | From it's amazing battle style, world map, character design and the shere number of them not to mention the musical score and story that will keep you up for hours. Superb graphics, excellent sound and story.
This game is the best game ever when I got it I was thrilled. Even though Kid died that made me happier because I hate her, I didn’t finish the whole game yet because its so hard there is two disks but they’re long .This is the best game I ever had and a lot of secrets to find out. This game has the best story. Because it's more than: there is an evil guy trying to destroy the world , but where a guy has to fight for his existence. The FMV videos are action packed (well almost all) and if not, they look very, very cool. The battle style is very cool as well. Some of the songs sound like they originated in Arabia or Persia, or something.
Another complaint for Chrono Cross is that you are no longer time-travelling. Time-travelling is now replaced by two alternate dimensions. Maybe time-traveling was a little cooler than two alternate dimensions, I’ll admit that, but Squaresoft sure did make it seem interesting.
Other cool things about Chrono Cross are:
> Over 40 playable characters (yes, I said 40);
> The return of techs (although there aren’t as many);
> The ability to allocate magic, referred to as elements;
> And, the sly way it fits into and continues the Chrono series.
I would like to make all the RPG fans in the world have this best game ever , so get it in your nearest store .And

| MORE SHINE THAN SUBSTANCE....... REALLY | | A gamer from VA, USA says (1/Jun/2003): | First off before anyone calls me a CC hater or whatever I just want to say that I didn't buy CC because I thought it would be like CT. I bought it because basically the whole CT staff worked on this sequel. Which left me expecting an original triumph. But sadly its nothing but a big dissapointment. The gameplay is original and good in its own light, as to where all your characters can be custom made. Graphics are great for a Playstation game. From the FMV to the menu screen. I was hung on the graphics for a while but they just don't make a game. Where the game really falters off is the storyline and the characters. The storyline is just everywhere and you won't really care about it at all. The characters are just the same, there's probably only a few people that you will like. The whole game is focused on tidbits,(anyone who played the game has to know what I mean) which IMO is good for depth but the whole game is like this! And the game which spans two discs really is small. How small you ask? Unbelievably small!(sigh) I really don't know what happened to this game. I'll let all you gamers know I'm a fair judge and the way I call it is usually how it is. A decent game which could have been so much better.
| 2 tumbs up | | Lexie106 from Miami, usa says (31/Aug/2003): | I agree, this is 1 of squares best games, but it was not the best. Square has made other games as in Final Fantasy 10 (ffx)! Each character was unique and did have a problem to solve, but the grafics were not the best, and that kissing sequence was soooooooo cheezy! square put some good music in, and i did love the gameplay! Chrono cross is a long game full of many adventures. I belive that Chrono cross is a very original game, not like many other role playing gmes i have seen out there. I think that each character has had a personality that probably took many hours to think up. Chrono cross has sooooooo many characters that in one game you cant even get all of them. I have played and replayed Chrono cross so many times i lost count. Square has contubuted many wonderful role playing games that it is hard 2 choose which role playing game is the best. Out of my favorites like final fantasy ten , chrono cross, chrono trigger and other final fantasy instalments chrono cross is up there pretty high. I belive that chrono cross has been well worth my forty dollars spent on this game! Thank you so much square, Chrono Cross is a wonderful and exciting game!!!!!********
| It's better than not playing anything | | jon from Joplin, Missouri, USA says (23/Apr/2003): | This game is an ok game. squaresoft really made an effort to make another chrono game. although. the music gets very old and irritating after a while and i know i found myself more than once turning the sound on my television all the way down. the graphics on this game is better than most of the ps1 games i've seen around but still not top notch. The most exciting thing about this game is in some of the points at the game you must choose a path on which to take. This means recieving different characters and meating new monsters to take on. Another interesting aspect to the game is the magic/element selection,because instead of leveling up and getting new magic spells along the way, you may choose from an array of different elements that everyone may use with the exception of some elements for only 1 certain innate. I also liked the forging new weapons because it is more like real life where you don't just have a weapon to choose from but you must also have all of the materials to create the weapon you choose. All in all this is a good game if you are bored during the summer and have nothing else to do.
| Better than the rest | | bryan from Malaysia says (4/May/2001): | My kid brother borrowed the discs to me. He said he played it for about 3 times. I was quite prejudiced at first. But now, I've played it for....I've lost count. This is simply the best ever game ever developed for PS. Not just among RPG games, but among all. Graphics are excellent, sounds & musics are sweet to the ears (unlike others which are so irritating), and the best of all, it's gameplay.
For once, developers haven't sacrificed any of the other aspects of the game to make the other stand out. I love the fact that every decision that we make would affect the following event. Almost like real life. Characters development are cleverly implemented to avoid the oh-so-irritating random encounters in FF series & its clones. The magic & equipment use are unique & is less complicated than FF.
The FMVs are totally worth the time & attention (not mentioning sleep, work & spouse neglection in my case). The only downside is that the fact the lead character doesn't actually speak. Only nodding & turning his head.
But apart from that, I'd say this game is truly better than FF series. Enough said.
| THIS GAME IS THE BEST RPG EVER!!!!!!!!!!! | | Jenna Spence from West Yorkshire, England says (27/Apr/2003): | Chrono Cross is the BEST RPG game ever! I love japaneze anime and manga and this games graphics are the best. The characters are the best they could be. They all have their own look and personality which makes the game all the better! My fave characters are Serge (for obvious reasons), Kid coz shes up for anything and Guile coz hes so mysterious and looks soooo cool!
The music gos perfect with whats happening and the emotions of the characters. I love the opening theme. Me and my mate turned on the game and as soon as the begining was over she asked if I could restart it so she could wach it again ^_^;
I am only at Water Dragon Ile and the story line makes you whant keep playing non stop eg. Serges dream at the begining of the game, scarey but sooooooooo cool, but I wont give any thing away or it spoils it.
I suggest that you get a walkthrough on the internet becouse it may get confusing at times, But dont let that put you off!
In my opinion Chrono Cross is a MUST HAVE!
I REALLY recomed getting this game coz theres always that will really interest you!
| Chrono Cross is da bomb!!!!!! | | Amber from USA says (28/Feb/2004): | I love this game!!! it is by far the best game I have ever played!! I think the graphics are awesome and the story line is actually pretty good. The characters were pretty unique my favorite characters were Glenn, Norris, Karsh, and Nikki. Serge had no personality he never talked and let others do the talking for him but i think the rest of the game was great. FF7's gameplay was better but the graphics werent as good as the graphics in Chrono Cross but i would say It is still the best. I think People who say Chrono Cross isn't as good as Chrono Trigger are C-R-A-Z-Y!!!! This game is DA BOMB The originality was ok and the music was good and the Graphics were Great considering that this is a Playstation 1 game you have to admit that. No other game i have played for PS1 have come even close to the graphics or gameplay for Chrono Cross (except for Final Fantasy 8 but the gameplay was not good at all i dont think) By far Chrono Cross is one of the best Squaresoft games ever I give Chrono Cross The best rating because it is simply just an awesome game to play.
| The Best RPG I've Played Yet | | Scott Mahon from Salisbury Maryland, USA says (20/Aug/2003): | O.K. so a lot of people might say that CC is a letdown and undeserving of "Chrono" in it's name. But as for me I think that Chrono Cross is a big example of what Square can really do. Sure I liked Chrono Trigger as much as the next guy but in my opinion, CC blows Chrono Trigger and all other RPGs that have been made, out of the water. I think that the creation of Chrono Cross was the most anticipated sequal to any RPG in gaming history. The soundtrack was O.K. But other than that it has all of the makings of a true Squaresoft masterpiece. I don't see why so many people critisize it. But for all of you who do, you apperantly have a strange taste in excellent gaming. CC is a game that I've been playing for quite a while as well as CT before that and I have not gotten even the least bit tired of it. It is a catching game, which I'm sorry to admit may take away from things more important. But, hey when you are playing CC it seems like there is, nothing more important than getting to the next section and moving on to the best ending in RPG history.
| This game rules | | Patrick Halpin from USA says (7/Jun/2003): | I have played Chrono Cross alot for the past year. I have beat it so many times. But Chrono Cross is more of a Sequel to Radical Dreamers. But it still does fits being a seual to Chrono Trigger. The story is Great but does get confusing at first. I love the music. I always have at least one Chrono Cross song stuck in my head. *LOL* The Characters are awesome but no where near as cool as the characters in Chrono Trigger. But the best part of Chrono Cross is its battle system. I mean there is no other RPg with that type of system. Very easy to use. If you think bosses take to much time because of it you really dont understand how to use it. The only problem is the elements. I like them i just dont like the fact that you can only use every element ( Not including consumables) per battle. Now over all this is one of my fav Rpgs next to Chrono Trigger and Golden sun.
if you ask me this game was alot beter thanf final fantasy 7.I think everyone should have a copy of this game.
| The best | | Peta from B.C says (3/Feb/2003): | This is the best ps1 game ever if you think it sucks you have no taste in good rpg games. Oh yeah if you get this game is suggest you get a walkthrough at game faqs!!! I think Chrono Trigger would be better because i played on a emulator on my computer when i could save whenever the ps1 emulator cant do that but Chono Cross is the best ps1 game i'v played that is rpg. Yeah that right!! i will waste spaces know since you have to have 200 hundred spaces or it wont be posted. But i addvise to get the game and a walkthrough or youll be totaly messed!! There are so many Characters to choose. The element part is kinda hard to understand at first but once you get it the game is pretty easy. The battle system is harder than Chrono Trigger but its still a good game. I love this game cause its such a good rpg. The music is okay and the graphics rool.
| GET IT NOW!!! | | Stan from Portland, OR says (19/May/2001): | This is ONE of the great games that you must get, no matter what the price is. I bought this game for $40.00 But when I played it, I couldn't put it down! I have a feeling this game might become a game of the Greatest Hits series soon. This game has the best story. Because it's more than: there is an evil guy trying to destroy the world, but where a guy has to fight for his existence. The FMV videos are action packed (well almost all)
, and if not, they look very, very cool. The battle style is very cool as well. Some of the songs sound like they originated in Arabia or Persia, or somethin'. Besides that, this game is incredibaly awesome! If you still aren't sure, then listen to this: Official PlayStation Magazine named this "The Best Game Of the Year, in 2000! Believe me, OPM doesn't give good reviews to all of there games.
